• Why do so many wpf controls implement CLR properties instead of dependency properties ?

  Hello, is it because the controls programmers are lazy, too hard to implement or not knowledgeable? Wether they are custom controls from 3rd party vendors or Microsoft itself, very much controls have often clr properties instead of DP. Result is I can not bind to them and is wpf not all about binding? :/ My next side question would be, why do so many wpf controls offer visual parts but they are not member of the visual tree ? see wpf datagrid columns, headers... What do you think?

• iPhone/ObjC - How to create a custom keyboard

  Hi, iPhone/objC question: How do I go about creating a custom keyboard/keypad that will show up when some one taps on a UITextField? I would like to display a keypad with a, b, c, 1, 2, 3 and an enter button, nothing else. The keypad should work and behave like the standard keyboard does (in behavior) but it will definitely look different. I can't find any example and the best I've found is to filter characters with existing keyboard which is an unacceptable solution. Thanks in advance, Hiren.

• Re-measuring custom item renderer on a List

  I'm writing an Adobe Air client to a service similar to Twitter. On the timeline (List component) I have a custom item renderer which is basically a Canvas with a fixed-width Image and a Text control, which is multi-line. If the text is long enough to change the Canvas height, it will only be resized if I manually change the width of the Window, forcing a redraw of all renderers. If I simply scroll through the List, all "new" renderers will have the minimum height possible (which is the Image height). Any ideas on how to force the re-measurement of the renderer when I set it's data? Thanks in advance! :)

Essentially, I'm looking to create a web application that runs on the user's machine instead of a web server. I could set up a localhost, but I want to use a "friendly" URL format that the user can reference elsewhere, e.g. a hypothetical cats protocol: cats:fluffy/cheeseburger-consumption-stats How can I accomplish this?   Hi I have a question about model binding. Imagine you have an existing database entity displayed in a form and you'd like to edit some details, some properties eg createddate etc are not bound to the form, during model binding, these properties are not assigned to the model as they are not on the http post data or querystrong etc, hence their properties are null. In my controller method for update , Id just like to do public ActionResult Update( Entity ent) { //Save changes to db } but as some properties are null in ent, they override the existing database fields which are not part of the form post data, What is the correct way to handle this? Ive tried hidden fields to hold the data, but model binding does not seem to assign hidden fields to the model. Any suggestions would be appreciated

  Hello, I'm working on a project that involves creating a custom graphical editor. The graphical editor has multiple tabs, and I want to create a preview function that will show a popup with Bitmap previews of the content of each of the tabs. However, the problem I'm running into is that the content for each of the tabs must be arranged before a proper preview can be generated for it. This means going into each of the tabs to ensure that they're rendered and arranged. Then, and only then, do the previews get properly generated, otherwise the previews have a size of 0x0. Does anybody know how to force an arrange of a content control so that I can get a properly sized preview generated ?

Does someone understand this behaviour ?

• Why do I get "could not load type" error with my custom SessionStateProvider

  My associate has created a custom SessionStateProvider for me to use with my ASP.net application. I add the file CustomSessionStateProvider to my VS2008 Web Application Project and put the appropriate reference in the web.config and it works fine. However, my supervisor wants me to set this up as a GAC reference. At my office, we have many DLLs we've created that we use as GAC references across different projects. If I add my CustomSessionStateProvider to the Global Assembly Cache, my pages throw a could not load type CustomASP.CustomSessionStateProvider error. Simple removing the DLL from the GAC makes it work again, but I want to set this up as a GAC reference. What could be causing this problem?

How should the expression look like if I want to localise it? I can make the property accessible as an attribute of the control's tag, but I prefer the mark-up above, it looks more elegant and clean.   Here's our scenario: We've created a sharepoint 2007 calendar on our intranet site We want to run a daily job to export a subset of the events to an rss file Another job will move the rss file to our public web site We have some funny restrictions where we can't simply publish the rss feed to the public. • Creating custom Android project templates in Eclipse?

  Every app I make starts out with a number of common base classes, interfaces, utility classes and a basic package structure that has been working for me. Is there a way for me to set up a project template in Eclipse that will give me all of the basic Android project stuff PLUS a bunch of custom packages, classes and interfaces? I guess I could just put all of this stuff into one or more libraries as opposed to creating a whole project template, so if you have a preferred approach or information/links/etc on how to do any of the above, please share (I'm relatively inexperienced with Eclipse, so the more detail the better). If this.styleSheet is initialized to new StyleSheet() to avoid this issue, then the TextArea instance does not seem to recognize any of the HTML tags that can be used with the htmlText property. • BULK INSERT from one table to another all on the server

  I have to copy a bunch of data from one database table into another. I can't use SELECT ... INTO because one of the columns is an identity column. Also, I have some changes to make to the schema. I was able to use the export data wizard to create an SSIS package, which I then edited in Visual Studio 2005 to make the changes desired and whatnot. It's certainly faster than an INSERT INTO, but it seems silly to me to download the data to a different computer just to upload it back again. (Assuming that I am correct that that's what the SSIS package is doing). Is there an equivalent to BULK INSERT that runs directly on the server, allows keeping identity values, and pulls data from a table? (as far as I can tell, BULK INSERT can only pull data from a file) Edit: I do know about IDENTITY_INSERT, but because there is a fair amount of data involved, INSERT INTO ... SELECT is kinda of slow. SSIS/BULK INSERT dumps the data into the table without regards to indexes and logging and whatnot, so it's faster. (Of course creating the clustered index on the table once it's populated is not fast, but it's still faster than the INSERT INTO...SELECT that I tried in my first attempt) Edit 2: The schema changes include (but are not limited to) the following: 1. Splitting one table into two new tables. In the future each will have its own IDENTITY column, but for the migration I think it will be simplest to use the identity from the original table as the identity for the both new tables. Once the migration is over one of the tables will have a one-to-many relationship to the other. 2. Moving columns from one table to another. 3. Deleting some cross reference tables that only cross referenced 1-to-1. Instead the reference will be a foreign key in one of the two tables. 4. Some new columns will be created with default values. 5. Some tables aren’t changing at all, but I have to copy them over due to the "put it all in a new DB" request.

• OpenOffice Calc Macro: Run shell command and return output as result of custom function

  I would like to write a custom OpenOffice function that runs a shell command and puts the result into the cell from which it was invoked. I have a basic macro working, but I can't find a way to capture the command's output. Function MyTest( c1 ) MyTest = Shell("bash -c "" echo hello "" ") End Function The above always returns 0. Looking at the documentation of the Shell command, I don't think it actually returns STDOUT. How would I capture the output so that I can return it in my function? Thanks!
