  • Help Understanding Function

    - by Fred F.
    What does the following function perform? public static double CleanAngle(double angle) { while (angle < 0) angle += 2 * System.Math.PI; while (angle > 2 * System.Math.PI) angle -= 2 * System.Math.PI; return angle; } This is how it is used with ATan2. I believe the actually values passed to ATan2 are always positive. static void Main(string[] args) { int q = 1; //'x- and y-coordinates will always be positive values //'therefore, do i need to "clean"? foreach (Point oPoint in new Point[] { new Point(8,20), new Point(-8,20), new Point(8,-20), new Point(-8,-20)}) { Debug.WriteLine(Math.Atan2(oPoint.Y, oPoint.X), "unclean " + q.ToString()); Debug.WriteLine(CleanAngle(Math.Atan2(oPoint.Y, oPoint.X)), "cleaned " + q.ToString()); q++; } //'output //'unclean 1: 1.19028994968253 //'cleaned 1: 1.19028994968253 //'unclean 2: 1.95130270390726 //'cleaned 2: 1.95130270390726 //'unclean 3: -1.19028994968253 //'cleaned 3: 5.09289535749705 //'unclean 4: -1.95130270390726 //'cleaned 4: 4.33188260327232 }

  • Could the assign function for containers possibly overflow?

    - by Kristo
I ran into this question today and thought I should post it for the community's reference and/or opinions. The standard C++ containers vector, deque, list, and string provide an assign member function. There are two versions; I'm primarily interested in the one accepting an iterator range. The Josuttis book is a little ambiguous with its description. From p. 237... Assigns all elements of the range [beg, end); this is, is replaces all existing elements with copies of the elements of [beg, end). It doesn't say what happens if the size of the assignee container is different from the range being assigned. Does it truncate? Does it automagically expand? Is it undefined behavior?

  • Testing a Django view cause "AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'handler500'" error

    - by jack
I just wanted to start testing a Django view using the code below: from django.test.client import Client c = Client() response = c.get('/search/keyword') print response.content It just throws out following error message: "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 286, in get response = self.request(**r) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 230, in request response = self.handler(environ) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/test/client.py", line 74, in __call__ response = self.get_response(request) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 143, in get_response return self.handle_uncaught_exception(request, resolver, exc_info) File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/handlers/base.py", line 178, in handle_uncaught_exception callback, param_dict = resolver.resolve500() File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py", line 268, in resolve500 return self._resolve_special('500') File "/usr/local/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/django/core/urlresolvers.py", line 258, in _resolve_special callback = getattr(self.urlconf_module, 'handler%s' % view_type) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'handler500' The view works in browser. What's wrong with above code?

  • Conditionan Action in SSRS

    - by Jesse
I want my textbox to have an action ONLY if the condition is true, otherwise no action. This is what I have as my current action expression for going to another report: =IIf(Fields!MyTextbox.Value = "0", "Report2","") This does not produce my desired result. It gives the textbox an action regardless of the condition result. Is there a 'No Action' or 'Cancel Action' value?

  • When should I use Dependency Injection and when utility methods?

    - by Roman
I have a Java EE project with Spring IoC container. I've just found in Utils class static method sendMail(long list of params). I don't know why but I feel that it would look better if we had separate class (Spring bean with singleton scope) which will be responsible for sending email. But I can't find any arguments which can prove my position. So, are there any pros (or cons) in using DI in this (rather general) situation?

  • How do I use a modalViewController Identically in Two Controllers?

    - by Theory
I'm using the Three20 TTMessageController in my app. I've figured out how to use it, adding on a bunch of other stuff (including TTMessageControllerDelegate methods and ABPeoplePickerNavigationControllerDelegate methods). It works great for me, after a bit of a struggle to figure it out. The trouble I'm having now is a design issue: I want to use it identically in two different places, including with the same delegate methods. My current approach is that I've put all the code into a single class inheriting from NSObject, called ComposerProxy, and I'm just having the two controllers that use it use the proxy, like so: ComposerProxy *proxy = [[ComposerProxy alloc] initWithController:this]; [proxy go]; The go method constructs the TTMessageController, configures it, adds it to a UINavigationController, and presents it: [self.controller presentModalViewController: navController animated: YES]; This works great, as I have all my code nicely encapsulated in ComposerProxy and I need only the above two lines anywhere I want to use it. The downside, though, is that I can't dealloc the proxy variable without getting crashes. I can't autorelease it, either: same problem. So I'm wondering if my proxy approach is a poor one. How does one normally encapsulate a bunch of behaviors like this without requiring a lot of duplicate code in the classes that use it? Do I need to add a delegate class to my ComposerProxy and make the controller responsible for dismissing the modal view controller in a hypothetical composerDidFinish method or some such? Many TIA!

  • How does this code break the Law of Demeter?

    - by Dave Jarvis
The following code breaks the Law of Demeter: public class Student extends Person { private Grades grades; public Student() { } /** Must never return null; throw an appropriately named exception, instead. */ private synchronized Grades getGrades() throws GradesException { if( this.grades == null ) { this.grades = createGrades(); } return this.grades; } /** Create a new instance of grades for this student. */ protected Grades createGrades() throws GradesException { // Reads the grades from the database, if needed. // return new Grades(); } /** Answers if this student was graded by a teacher with the given name. */ public boolean isTeacher( int year, String name ) throws GradesException, TeacherException { // The method only knows about Teacher instances. // return getTeacher( year ).nameEquals( name ); } private Grades getGradesForYear( int year ) throws GradesException { // The method only knows about Grades instances. // return getGrades().getForYear( year ); } private Teacher getTeacher( int year ) throws GradesException, TeacherException { // This method knows about Grades and Teacher instances. A mistake? // return getGradesForYear( year ).getTeacher(); } } public class Teacher extends Person { public Teacher() { } /** * This method will take into consideration first name, * last name, middle initial, case sensitivity, and * eventually it could answer true to wild cards and * regular expressions. */ public boolean nameEquals( String name ) { return getName().equalsIgnoreCase( name ); } /** Never returns null. */ private synchronized String getName() { if( this.name == null ) { this.name == ""; } return this.name; } } Questions How is the LoD broken? Where is the code breaking the LoD? How should the code be written to uphold the LoD?

  • Java: Get Mainform object from JInternalFrame

Can I do this without reference to the object in the constructor? In other words, any class inherited from FrmTaoChild when creating must to add the button on the toolbar of the main window public class FrmTaoMain extends JFrame { JToolBar tbTask = new JToolBar(); public FrmTaoMain(String Caption) { super(Caption); ... • Function with missing return value, behavior at runtime

    - by nabulke
As expected, the compiler (VisualStudio 2008) will give a warning warning C4715: 'doSomethingWith' : not all control paths return a value when compiling the following code: int doSomethingWith(int value) { int returnValue = 3; bool condition = false; if(condition) // returnValue += value; // DOH return returnValue; } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { int foo = 10; int result = doSomethingWith(foo); return 0; } But the program runs just fine. The return value of function doSomethingWith() is 0. Is is just undefined behavior, or is there a certain rule how the result value is created/computed at runtime. What happens with non-POD datatypes as return value?

  • Is it good practice to call module functions directly in VB.NET?

    - by froadie
I have a Util module in my VB.NET program that has project-wide methods such as logging and property parsing. The general practice where I work seems to be to call these methods directly without prefixing them with Util. When I was new to VB, it took me a while to figure out where these methods/functions were coming from. As I use my own Util methods now, I can't help thinking that it's a lot clearer and more understandable to add Util. before each method call (you know immediately that it's user-defined but not within the current class, and where to find it), and is hardly even longer. What's the general practice when calling procedures/functions of VB modules? Should we prefix them with the module name or not?

  • Separating arguments to a function, in locales with comma as decimal marker

    - by Chris Pousset
In locales, e.g. French, with comma as decimal indicator (where "5,2" means five and two-tenths), how do users separate function arguments from each other? For example, in many programming/scripting languages, I could specify MAX(1.5, X) in a EN-US locale. How do you avoid the ambiguity between the comma as decimal indicator, and as argument separator? In particular, I'm interested in how software that's perceived as user-friendly in the foreign locale does it. Obviously, it's a no-brainer to say, "thou shalt use decimal POINTs", but that's not particularly "friendly".

  • Filtering A MySQL Result Set Based On The Return Value Of A Function

    - by Joshua
I'm a SQL noob, and I need a little bit of help understanding the big picture of if it is possible, and if so how to go about filtering a result set based on the return value of a function which is passed one of the fields of the record. Let's say I have a table called "Numbers" with just one field: "Value". How could I correctly specify the following "pseudo-sql"?: SELECT Value FROM numbers WHERE IsPrime(Value)=true Can I accomplish such a thing, and if so, where/how do I put/store "IsPrime"? I'm using MySQL.

There is a software for chess game and we need to test the following method: boolean canMoveTo(int x, int y) x and y are the coordinates of the chess board and it returns true/false whether the piece can move to that position or not. We need to test this method for a pawn piece and you can set up the board any way you like prior to running a test case. Source code is not provided

  • N-Tiered application design tool

    - by Ben V
I'm beginning the design of a medium-sized web application. I usually like to design from the top down, i.e., start at the highest level and design my way down. I am planning to have the following layers: Presentation (PHP/Ajax) Business Logic Data Access Database Now I'd like to start sketching out the major objects in each layer and the interaction between layers. Is there a tool more specific to this purpose than just using a graphics/diagramming tool like Visio?

  • Bind multiple request parameters to one object in Spring 3

    - by Max
Hi, I can't figure out a way to bind several arguments and headers to one request parameter using annotations in Spring 3. For example, let's say I'm getting this request: Headers: Content-type: text/plain; POST Body: Name: Max Now I want it all to mysteriously bind to this object: class NameInfo { String name; } Using some code like this: String getName() { if ("text/plain".equals(headers.get("content-type"))) { return body.get("name"); } else if ("xml".equals(headers.get("content-type")) { return parseXml(body).get("name"); } else ... } So that in the end I would be able to use: @RequestMapping(method = RequestMethod.POST) void processName(@RequestAttribute NameInfo name) { ... } Is there a way to achieve something similar to what I need? Thanks in advance.

  • How to create custom get and set methods for Linq2SQL object

    - by optician
I have some objects which have been created automatically by linq2SQL. I would like to write some code which should be run whenever the properties on these objects are read or changed. Can I use typical get { //code } and set {//code } in my partial class file to add this functionality? Currently I get an error about this member already being defined. This all makes sense. Is it correct that I will have to create a method to function as the entry point for this functionality, as I cannot redefine the get and set methods for this property. I was hoping to just update the get and set, as this would mean I wouldn't have to change all the reference points in my app. But I think I may just have to update it everywhere.

  • Easiest (simple) explanation of "prototype" in JavaScript?

    - by alexeypro
Hello, Can somebody give me a resource (or just explanation? :-) of what "prototype" is and how it works in Javascript. May be comparison with something in Java? (not really necessary). But it should be as simple/easy as possible so inexperienced person just learning Javascript would understand (need to explain this to jr designer who is proficient with CSS/HTML, but not with Javascript). Thank you!

  • Django: many-to-one fields and data integrity

    - by John
Let's say that I have a Person who runs an inventory system. Each Person has some Cars, and each Car has a very large number of Parts (thousands, let's say). A Person, Bob, uses a Django form to create a Car. Now, Bob goes to create some Parts. It is only at the form level that Django knows that the Parts belong to some specific Car, and that the Parts.ForeignKey(Car) field should only have a specific Car as a choice. When creating a Part, you have to mess with the form's constructor or similar in order to limit the choice of Cars to only the cars owned by Bob. It does not seem proper that to enforce this ownership at the form level. It seems that other users' Cars must be inaccessible to anyone but the owner of the Car. What do you all think about this, and is there any way to enforce this?

  • Floor function returning EXC_BAD_ACCESS

    - by fastrack20
    The cod that I am using contains these snippets of code. I am calling ThetaG_JD with the argument 2455343.50000 which is just a sample Julian date. Every time I run the program, I receive a EXC_BAD_ACCESS on the indicated line. When using gdb and printing out the intermediary values and passing them through the floor function, I get no error, but when Frac() is used it always returns an error. double Frac(double arg) { /* Returns fractional part of double argument */ return arg - floor(arg); } double ThetaG_JD(double jd) { /* Reference: The 1992 Astronomical Almanac, page B6. */ double UT=0, TU=0, GMST=0; //THIS LINE UT=Frac(jd+0.5); // THAT ONE ^^ jd=jd-UT; TU=(jd-2451545.0)/36525; GMST=24110.54841+TU*(8640184.812866+TU*(0.093104-TU*6.2E-6)); GMST=Modulus(GMST+secday*omega_E*UT,secday); return (twopi*GMST/secday); }

  • Using ObjectBindingDatasource to bind to object exposing Lists, cant drag and drop fields onto repor

    - by SKM
Hey Guys Ive used the ObjectBindingDatasource to bind to a class Ive called "ReportViewModel" which contains properties such as List Companies {get; set;} List Managers {get; set;} in its constructor Im just calling a method to populate with dummy data Managers = new ReportDataRepository().GetManagers(); Companies = new ReportDataReposiroty().GetCompanies(); ... When i create the new Datasource , it shows the ReportViewModel class with the Lists under it. I expand the Companies object and attempt draging and dropping fields onto the report designer and it works. Though doesnt allow me to drag and drop for any other List. Any guidance would be really appreciated.

  • How can I embed a youtube video using variable widths/heights for a dynamic width web page?

    - by Dan Gayle
I want to set a youtube video to 100% width so that it scales appropriately in a dynamic width column on a web page I am designing. The problem is that the height doesn't behave like the height of an image. Instead of scaling proportionately, it either collapses (if set to "auto" or left blank) or it scales seemingly random if set to a percentage. How can I get it to remain proportionate while still dynamic?

  • Utilise Surv object in ggplot or lattice

    - by Misha
    Anyone know how to take advantage of ggplot or lattice in doing survival analysis? It would be nice to do trellis/facet like survival graphs. So in the end I played around and sort of found a solution for a kaplan meier plot. Apologize for the messy code in taking the list elements into a dataframe, but I couldnt figure out another way. Note: It only works with two levels of stratum. If anyone know how I can use x<-length(stratum) to do this please let me know (in stata I could append to a macro-unsure how this works in R)... ggkm<-function(time,event,stratum) { m2s<-Surv(time,as.numeric(event)) fit <- survfit(m2s ~ stratum) f$time<-fit$time f$surv<-fit$surv f$strata<-c(rep(names(fit$strata[1]),fit$strata[1]),rep(names(fit$strata[2]),fit$strata[2])) f$upper<-fit$upper f$lower<-fit$lower r<-ggplot (f,aes(x=time,y=surv,fill=strata,group=strata))+geom_line()+geom_ribbon(aes(ymin=lower,ymax=upper),alpha=0.3) return(r) }

  • Is it possible to set properties on a Mock Object in Simpletest

    - by JW
I normally use getter and setter methods on my objects and I am fine with testing them as mock objects in SimpleTest by manipulating them with code like: Mock::generate('MyObj'); $MockMyObj->setReturnValue('getPropName', 'value') However, I have recently started to use magic interceptors (__set() __get()) and access properties like so: $MyObj->propName = 'blah'; But I am having difficulty making a mock object have a particular property accessed by using that technique. So is there some special way of setting properties on MockObjects. I have tried doing: $MockMyObj->propName = 'test Value'; but this does not seem to work. Not sure if it is my test Subject, Mock, magic Interceptors, or SimpleTest that is causing the property to be unaccessable. Any advice welcome.

  • Entity framework (1): implement 1 foreign key to multiple tables

    - by Michel
Hi, i've modeled this: i have an import table, and an import steps table import 1 .. N importsteps Now i have a table importparams, which hold key/value pairs to register all kind of info about the import or the importsteps. So i have modeled a FK in SqlServer which points to the PK of the import table and to the PK of the importsteps table (the ID's for both the import as the importsteps table are guids, so i can query the importparams with either the id from import or from importsteps and get the right importparams). Makes sense a bit? But how can i model this in the EF? I can see it's a bit hard for the EF to model this, because one realtion can point to multiple classes, but is there a way? The workaround normally is just to get all importparams where FK is the ID, but as you know the FK is not available in the EF version 1. I hope you can help me out, michel

  • Entity Framework v4 examples and tutorials of conceptual model mapping

    - by Rody van Sambeek
In an application I'm writing I have a fairly complicated Database model. I'd like to use EF4 to map this to a whole lot nicer conceptual model. However all the tutorials I've read are with samples of 2 or 3 tables which all map 1 on 1 to the conceptual model. I'd like to learn how to correctly map the database model to a different conceptual model using VS 2010. However I can't find any good tutorials or (preferabally) instruction video's. Somebody got any tips, links or even books?
