  • remove field name from object validation message

    - by Colin G
    I've got a simple active record validation on an object using this within a form: form.error_messages({:message => '', :header_message => ''}) This in turn outputs something like "FieldName My Custom message" What i need to do is remove the field name from the error message but leave my custom message. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this.

  • how do you group select_tag and text_field_tag?

    - by Eytan
    I'm trying to build a form where a user can select an existing category, or define their own. My form looks something like this... <%= f.select :category, category_options, prompt: "Select"> <%= f.text_field :category %> However, this UI is confusing. The user can select something in the select box, and type in a custom category. In this case, the final result is not obvious. Do you guys have any recommendations on how to handle this situation?

  • Removing “duplicate objects” with same attributes using Array.map

    - by keruilin
    As you can see in the current code below, I am finding the duplicate based on the attribute recordable_id. What I need to do is find the duplicate based on four matching attributes: user_id, recordable_type, hero_type, recordable_id. How must I modify the code? heroes = User.heroes for hero in heroes hero_statuses = hero.hero_statuses seen = [] hero_statuses.sort! {|a,b| a.created_at <=> b.created_at } # sort by created_at hero_statuses.each do |hero_status| if seen.map(&:recordable_id).include? hero_status.recordable_id # check if the id has been seen already hero_status.revoke else seen << hero_status # if not, add it to the seen array end end end

  • How to coerce type of ActiveRecord attribute returned by :select phrase on joined table?

    - by tribalvibes
    Having trouble with AR 2.3.5, e.g.: users = User.all( :select => "u.id, c.user_id", :from => "users u, connections c", :conditions => ... ) Returns, e.g.: => [#<User id: 1000>] >> users.first.attributes => {"id"=>1000, "user_id"=>"1000"} Note that AR returns the id of the model searched as numeric but the selected user_id of the joined model as a String, although both are int(11) in the database schema. How could I better form this type of query to select columns of tables backing multiple models and retrieving their natural type rather than String ? Seems like AR is punting on this somewhere. How could I coerce the returned types at AR load time and not have to tack .to_i (etc.) onto every post-hoc access?

  • Is there a way to automatically grab all the elements on the page using Selenium?

    - by VGambit
    When creating tests for .Net applications, I can use the White library to find all elements of a given type. I can then write these elements to an Xml file, so they can be referenced and used for GUI tests. This is much faster than manually recording each individual element's info, so I would like to do the same for web applications using Selenium. I haven't been able to find any info on this yet. I would like to be able to search for every element of a given type and save its information (location/XPath, value, and label) so I can write it to a text file later.

  • ruby looping question

    Hello! I want to make a loop on a variable that can be altered inside of the loop. first_var.sort.each do |first_id, first_value| second_var.sort.each do |second_id, second_value_value| difference = first_value - second_value if difference >= 0 second_var.delete(second_id) else second_var[second_id] += first_value if second_var[second_id] == 0 second_var.delete(second_id) end first_var.delete(first_id) end end end How do I do this, because this doesn't work?

  • Should I denormalize a has_many has_many?

    - by Cameron
    I have this: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :serials has_many :sites, :through => :series end class Serial < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :site has_many :episodes end class Site < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :serials has_many :users, :through => :serials end class Episode < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :serial end I would like to do some operations on User.serials.episodes but I know this would mean all sorts of clever tricks. I could in theory just put all the episode data into serial (denormalize) and then group_by Site when needed. If I have a lot of episodes that I need to query on would this be a bad idea? thanks

  • Formatting Button Position with Form_For

    - by Tian
    I am using form_for to create a form that has 1 input field and 1 button. I'd like the submit button to be beside the input field rather than underneath it. Relevant code is: .input{border: 1px solid #666666; width:400px; height:22px;font-size:16px;} <td width="900" height="50" align="left" valign="middle"> <% form_for @contact, :url => {:action => "create"}, :html => {:class => "input"} do |f| %> <%= f.text_field :email, :size=> 74 %> <%= image_submit_tag '2009-12-06-Landing1.gif' %> <% end %> </td>

  • NoMethodError when using .where (eager fetching)

    - by Ethan Leroy
    I have the following model classes... class Image < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :description, :title has_many :imageTags has_many :tags, :through => :imageTags end class Tag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name has_many :imageTags has_many :images, :through => :imageTags end class ImageTag < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :position belongs_to :image belongs_to :tag end And when I use find for getting the Tag with the id 1 t = Tag.find(1); @images = t.images; But when I do the same with where, I get a NoMethodError, with the description undefined method 'images': t = Tag.where(:name => "foo"); @images = t.images; I also tried adding .includes(:images) before the .where statement, but that doesn't work too. So, how can I get all Images that belong to a Tag?

  • Expanding a row in a div-based table

    - by magneticMonster
    I have a stack of <div> elements that show a name. I'd like to include a + link off to the side that, when clicked, expands the <div> and adds more detailed information (from a RoR controller). After poking around on the net, I found link_to_remote and related RoR stuff, but I can't seem to get the right combination to work together. Can someone point me to a tutorial or show what the controller and view interaction should look like? Thanks!

  • ordering a collection by an association's property

    - by neiled
    class Person belongs_to :team class Status #has last_updated property class Team has_many :members, :class => "Person" Ok, so I have a Team class which has many People in it and each of those people has a status and each status has a last_updated property. I'm currently rendering a partial with a collection similar to: =render :partial => "user", :collection => current_user.team.members Now how do I go about sorting the collection by the last_updated property of the Status class? Thanks in advance! p.s. I've just written the ruby code from memory, it's just an example, it's not meant to compile but I hope you get the idea!
