I am looking for suggestions on the best way to document
replication....all publications....subscriptions....articles.
I currently have 2 data centers & 35 remote locations.
Any suggestions??
Hello,
We are doing distributed development, working at home, office and sometimes at customers.
We are using assembla for source-repository and we need a centralized-remote SQL Server 2008 database hosting for (similar to svn on assembla) our SQL development server.
Can you name / recommend any service providers?
I ssh on remote host but terminal performance is poor. Symbols I am typing are not shown immediately, but with some delay. Sometimes two symbols are shown at one time after delay.
Is there a way to manage a Hyper-V cluster that runs on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter from a Windows 8.1 Pro workstation?
I've downloaded and installed the Remote Server Admin Tools for 8.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39296), but when I enable the Hyper-V manager, it tells me that I can't manage Hyper-V servers on 2K8 or 2K8R2.
Related, the Failover Cluster Manager barfs with a similar error.
How do I manage my old servers with my new workstation?
I frequently come in contact with people who absolutely cannot operate a PC, no matter how you train them.
I need some sort of programmable physical button or remote control, where when they click it, it will execute a script on a windows machine. (and no, wiseguys, a mouse won't do)
Does such a thing exist?
I have two Ubuntu Server machines sitting at home. One is 192.168.1.15 (we'll call this 15), and the other is 192.168.1.25 (we'll call this 25). For some reason, when I want to setup passwordless login from 15 to 25, it works like a champ. When I repeat the steps on 25, so that 25 can login without a password on 15, no dice. I have checked both sshd_config files. Both have:
RSAAuthentication yes
PubkeyAuthentication yes
I have checked permissions on both servers:
drwx------ 2 bion2 bion2 4096 Dec 4 12:51 .ssh
-rw------- 1 bion2 bion2 398 Dec 4 13:10 authorized_keys
On 25.
drwx------ 2 shimdidly shimdidly 4096 Dec 4 19:15 .ssh
-rw------- 1 shimdidly shimdidly 1018 Dec 4 18:54 authorized_keys
On 15.
I just don't understand when things would work one way and not the other. I know it's probably something obvious just staring me in the face, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what is going on. Here's what ssh -v says when I try to ssh from 25 to 15:

In the advanced TCP/IP settings of a VPN connection, i found a checkbox labeled with "Disable class based route addition". The checkbox is only enabled as long as "Use default gateway on remote network" is switched off.
What is "Disable class based route addition" good for?
Detailed instructions to find the settings:
Open Properties of VPN connection
Go to Networking tab
Open Properties of "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" (and/or TCP/IPv6)
Click "Advanced..." Button
Change to "IP Settings" tab
Here you can find the checkboxes mentioned above
We are moving to two servers from one server due to performance issues. We are moving our MySQL DB to its own dedicated server and will keep the original machine as the front end machine running nginx/apache (Django backend.)
How do we monitor the value of this change? It is possible our whole site could actually get slower since the MySQL queries will be going out over a secure remote connection instead of locally?
I'm trying to secure my home network but don't really need the complexity of a VPN so I'm trying to figure out other options.
I'd like to allow my iPhone remote access to my home servers but I can't depend on the IP address because it changes quite often (due to the 3G network, etc).
Can I filter incoming connections on my router (pfsense) by MAC address or does NAT change the source as it's passing through the different routers on the internet?
Are you a sys admin that uses emacs?
What tools/plugins do you find essential? In my organization the programmers tend to use emacs whereas the sys admins gravitate towards vim. Since we have 4:1 programmers:sys admins, the global emacs config has a lot more goodness but it doesn't fit nicely into my workflow since I'm used to starting/stopping vim on remote hosts 1000 times a day
Does emacs have a place in your sys admin workflow?
I have a VPN set up on a Symantec Gateway 320 and the status of the VPN is connected but the feature it provides is not working which means it is not actually connected..The only way to test it other than trying to use it in the program that utilizes it is to ping the remote subnet IP we use. mask numbers match, no settings have been changed it just stopped working.
I want to run a guest operating system under a Linux host with VirtualBox, but I don't want to run from within X. I don't want a headless configuration, I don't want to run VirtualBox in the background, I don't want any remote protocols. I just want the guest OS to take control of my console (keyboard, mouse and monitor) and render to the framebuffer directly, not from within an X window.
Is this possible?
Hi, I am using tcsh and define an environmental variable as follows:
setenv mycomp [email protected]
so that when I need to copy files from the remote my.computer.com, I type the following:
scp $mycomp:sourcepath destpath
But when I do this, I get the following error: "Bad : modifier in $ (m)." where (m) is the first character after the colon.
What is this error telling me, and how can I fix it?
We have Windows Server Core 2008 R2. We have successfully installed .NET and the Visual C++ runtimes.
Our application requires the ability to post messages to an MSMQ server
To be clear we do not want to install MSMQ server on the machine.
However we want to be able to post messages to a remote MSMQ server so we need to install the client parts of Windows Messaging.
Has anybody succeeded in doing this?
I have remote Windows 2003 server with two network interfaces e.g. Cn1 and Cn2.
I need that all traffic goes through Cn1 except for one port (for me it's 3389, rdp for administration) that works over Cn2.
Currently when I setup all connections work through Cn1, I completely lose connection over Cn2 - and can't connect to server via RDP over Cn2. Now I used static routing based on my ip address (which can changed - so it's bad).
I have Windows Server 2012 Essentials and I'm trying to set up Anywhere Access so I can remotely access files. This feature was really easy to access in Windows Home Server and I'm trying to duplicate that functionality here.
I've tried going through the Anywhere Access wizard several times but I can't get past the SSL Certificates step. I don't want to purchase a certificate; is there any other way to enable remote file access?
I have problem with installing apache on the ubuntu server running on virtual machine. (one of the so called cloud hosting)
Installation went smooth apache is started but I can't access it through http://84.51.250.58[this is not a link] (just to see first "It works!" page) nor I can ping let say google.com using shell from remote viewer.
It's brand new installation, it should work or am I missing something?
I have several webcams and I have software that will provide a website I can visit and see all of the webcams.
I also want to add voice communication. It can be one way; but I need to, from a remote location, be able to talk and have it come out of my speakers at home.
I don't know of any software that does this in any easy fashion. Can someone recommend something for me? I'm running Windows 7
I have machine with Windows and Linux with GRUB, only with remote access. Is there any way to chage default OS in grub from windows? I know how to achieve it from linux, something like
echo "savedefault --default=2 --once" | grub --batch; sudo reboot
should work.
Is there any way to achieve it from windows?
I do not want to use any native Windows features, services, nor anything do to this.
It needs to be a standalone program, with ZERO Windows dependencies.
Just like TeamViewer does not use any native Windows features, so I want to be able to access files and folders in a standalone program.
No remote desktop
No VNC type programs
No Windows File Sharing
No Shared Folders in Windows
No internet connection required
It needs ability to view, edit, transfer files at normal network rates.
I have lab of 80 computer in my school.
I need to run terminal server on each pc using remote desktop service of Microsoft server 2003. I need to run applications like Java, .NET, wamp, turbo c and other low memory applications like ms office and internet.
so, could you please recommended some configuration for Mother Board and Processor.
If you need any other information feel free to ask.
I have around 100GB of data which i want to backup on remote FTP.
Now i think it will take around 2-3 week to upload as i have upload speed around 100KB/s.
Now i can't do that continuously.
Is it possible that rync strtuploading from 8PM to 6AM so that it uploads after work hours
i need to rsync a remote directory to a local server, and distribute files (balancing the space) in 4 destination directory (related to 4 disk mounts).
tips?
I have a server colocated on datacenter.CentOS operating system. They use KVM-ip when I need remote hands. Somoene told me that login using that will allow administrators (if they want) to get disk encryption password or ssh root pass via KVM-ip(is that true ?). Someone told me I can use VPN to login to my server instead of kvm over ip. Anyone have experience with that ? Is that option valid ?
Thank you

How do you test iptables rules to prevent remote lockout and check matches?

When you are configuring iptables or ssh over ssh and the data center is thousands of kilometers away(and getting someone there to plug in a KVM is hard) what are some standard practices to prevent locking yourself out?
