  • looking to streamline my RSS feed mashup

    Hello crafty developers, I have aggregated RSS feeds from various sources with RSSowl, fetching directly from the social mention API. The RSS feeds are categorized into the following major categories: blogs, news, twitter, Q&A and social networking sites. Each major category is nested with a common group of RSS feeds that represent a particular client/brand ontology. Merging these feeds into the RSSowl reader application, allows me to conduct and save refined search queries (from the aggregated data) into a single file - that I can then tag and further segment for analysis. This scheme is utilized for my own research needs and has helped me considerably. However, I find this RSS mashup scheme kinda clumsy, it requires quite a bit of time to initially organize all of the feeds and I would like to be able to do further natural language processing to the data as well as eventually be able to rank the collected list of URL's into some order of media prominence - right I don't want to pay the ridiculous radian6 web analytics fees, when my intuition is telling me that with a bit of 'elbow grease' I can maybe leverage some available resources online to develop a functional low scale web mining application and get some good intelligence from it. I am now starting to learn a little about computer science - my background is in physical science/statistics so is my thinking in the right track? So, I guess I am imagining an application that allows me to query in a refined manner. A manner that allows me to search for keyword combinations, applying AND/OR operators, selectively focus my queries into particular sources - like a collection of blogs or twitter, or social networking communities, then save the results of my queries into a structured format that can then be manipulated and explored. Am I dreaming? I just had to get all of this out. any bit of advice and insight would be hugely appreciated. my best, Mark

    Taking over some code from my predecessor and I found a query that uses the Like operator: SELECT * FROM suppliers WHERE supplier_name like '%'+name+%'; Trying to avoid SQL Injection problem and parameterize this but I am not quite sure how this would be accomplished.     Hello, I have a statement: I have a string such as content = "* test *" I want to search and replace it with so when I am done the string contains this: content = "(*) test (*)" My code is: content = Regex.Replace(content, "*", "(*)"); But this causes an error in C# because it thinks that the * is part of the Regular Expressions Syntax. How can I modify this code so it changes all asterisks in my string to (*) instead without causing a runtime error? Thanks.

    I want to use the Google account login to retrieve the informations to be used for Google's gdata api so that when I start the application deployed on Google App Engine the user is asked for its login and I can then use this information on the server side to specify the credentials for Google Calendar login (through gdata api). How can I do that? I tried using Client login but it seems that there's no way to get password information from che Client object on the server side... thank you.

  • Callback function and function pointer trouble in C++ for a BST

    I have to create a binary search tree which is templated and can deal with any data types, including abstract data types like objects. Since it is unknown what types of data an object might have and which data is going to be compared, the client side must create a comparison function and also a print function (because also not sure which data has to be printed). I have edited some C code which I was directed to and tried to template, but I cannot figure out how to configure the client display function. I suspect variable 'tree_node' of class BinarySearchTree has to be passed in, but I am not sure how to do this. For this program I'm creating an integer binary search tree and reading data from a file. But the problem is when two users try to connect at the same time - in this case 2nd user can easily overwrite changes made by 1st user ('room_1' variable).   • Query.fetch(limit=2000) only moves cursor forward by 1000 entities?

    Let's say I have 2500 MyModel entities in my datastore, and I run this code: query = MyModel.all() first_batch = query.fetch(2000) len(first_batch) # 2000 next_query = MyModel.all().with_cursor(query.cursor()) next_batch = next_query.fetch(2000) What do you think len(next_batch) is? 500, right? Nope - it's 1500. Apparently the query cursor never moves forward by more than 1000, even when the query itself returns more than 1000 entities. Should I do something different or is it just an App Engine bug?

  • Delegate Methods Not Firing on Search Results Table

    All, I have a UITableView w/detail, with a Search bar, created from code. Works fine on selected items except it doesn't work when an item is clicked from the search results; no delegate methods fire. Never seen this type of behavior before so I don't know where the issue lies. I get the same behavior with standard table cells as well as custom table cells.   • How to find all initializations of instance variables in a Java package?

    I'm in the midst of converting a legacy app to Spring. As part of the transition, we're converting our service classes from an "instantiate new ones whenever you need one" style to a Springleton style, so I need a way to make sure they don't have any state. I'm comfortable on the *nix command-line, and I have access to IntelliJ (this strikes me as a good fit for Structural Search and Replace, if I could figure out how to use it), and I could track down an Eclipse install, if that would help. I just want to make absolutely sure I've found all the possible problems. UPDATE: Sorry for the confusion. I don't have a problem finding places where the old constructor was being called. What I'm looking for is a "bullet-proof" why to search all 100+ service classes for any sort of internal state. The most obvious one I could think of (and the only one I've really found so far) is cases where we use memoization in the classes, so they have instance variables that get initialized internally instead of via Spring. This means that when the same Springleton gets used for different requests, data can leak between them. Thanks.
