  • getSelection() by Double Click or manual selection is not the same

    - by sanceray3
    Hi all, I allow me to ask a question, because I have a little probleme with an function which returns me the parent of a selection. $('input[type=button].btn_transform').click(function(){ var selectionObj = getSelected();//Function which gives me selection var theParent=selectionObj.anchorNode.parentNode; alert (theParent); }) For example with this sentence : "the cat is <strong>gray</strong>." If I select manually the word "gray" and click on my button, the function returns me [object HTMLSpanElement]. But if I select the same word by double clicking, the function returns me [object HTMLParagraphElement]. Do you know why ? Thanks a lot.

  • Difficulty with MooTools Class.extend

    - by Erin Drummond
    Consider the following code: var Widget = new Class({ Implements: [Options], options: { "name" : "BaseWidget" }, initialize: function(options) { alert("Options are: " + JSON.stringify(options)); //alerts "Options are: undefined" this.setOptions(options); alert("My options are: " + JSON.stringify(this.options)); //alerts "My options are: { 'name' : 'BaseWidget' }" }, getName: function() { return this.options.name; } }); var LayoutWidget = Widget.extend({ initialize: function() { this.parent({ "name" : "Layout" }); } }); alert(new LayoutWidget().getName()); //alerts "BaseWidget" I am having difficulty in determining why the argument passed in the "this.parent()" call in "initialize" function of LayoutWidget is coming through as "undefined" in the initialize function of Widget. I am using MooTools 1.2.2. Would somebody be able to point me in the right direction?

  • PHP MVC Framework Structure

    - by bigstylee
    I am sorry about the amount of code here. I have tried to show enough for understanding while avoiding confusion (I hope). I have included a second copy of the code at Pastebin. (The code does execute without error/notice/warning.) I am currently creating a Content Management System while trying to implement the idea of Model View Controller. I have only recently come across the concept of MVC (within the last week) and trying to implement this into my current project. One of the features of the CMS is dynamic/customisable menu areas and each feature will be represented by a controller. Therefore there will be multiple versions of the Controller Class, each with specific extended functionality. I have looked at a number of tutorials and read some open source solutions to the MVC Framework. I am now trying to create a lightweight solution for my specific requirements. I am not interested in backwards compatibility, I am using PHP 5.3. An advantage of the Base class is not having to use global and can directly access any loaded class using $this->Obj['ClassName']->property/function();. Hoping to get some feedback using the basic structure outlined (with performance in mind). Specifically; a) Have I understood/implemented the concept of MVC correctly? b) Have I understood/implemented Object Orientated techniques with PHP 5 correctly? c) Should the class propertise of Base be static? d) Improvements? Thank you very much in advance! <?php /* A "Super Class" that creates/stores all object instances */ class Base { public static $Obj = array(); // Not sure this is the correct use of the "static" keyword? public static $var; static public function load_class($directory, $class) { echo count(self::$Obj)."\n"; // This does show the array is getting updated and not creating a new array :) if (!isset(self::$Obj[$class]) && !is_object(self::$Obj[$class])) //dont want to load it twice { /* Locate and include the class file based upon name ($class) */ return self::$Obj[$class] = new $class(); } return TRUE; } } /* Loads general configuration objects into the "Super Class" */ class Libraries extends Base { public function __construct(){ $this->load_class('library', 'Database'); $this->load_class('library', 'Session'); self::$var = 'Hello World!'; //testing visibility /* Other general funciton classes */ } } class Database extends Base { /* Connects to the the database and executes all queries */ public function query(){} } class Session extends Base { /* Implements Sessions in database (read/write) */ } /* General functionality of controllers */ abstract class Controller extends Base { protected function load_model($class, $method) { /* Locate and include the model file */ $this->load_class('model', $class); call_user_func(array(self::$Obj[$class], $method)); } protected function load_view($name) { /* Locate and include the view file */ #include('views/'.$name.'.php'); } } abstract class View extends Base { /* ... */ } abstract class Model extends Base { /* ... */ } class News extends Controller { public function index() { /* Displays the 5 most recent News articles and displays with Content Area */ $this->load_model('NewsModel', 'index'); $this->load_view('news', 'index'); echo $this->var; } public function menu() { /* Displays the News Title of the 5 most recent News articles and displays within the Menu Area */ $this->load_model('news/index'); $this->load_view('news/index'); } } class ChatBox extends Controller { /* ... */ } /* Lots of different features extending the controller/view/model class depending upon request and layout */ class NewsModel extends Model { public function index() { echo $this->var; self::$Obj['Database']->query(/*SELECT 5 most recent news articles*/); } public function menu() { /* ... */ } } $Libraries = new Libraries; $controller = 'News'; // Would be determined from Query String $method = 'index'; // Would be determined from Query String $Content = $Libraries->load_class('controller', $controller); //create the controller for the specific page if (in_array($method, get_class_methods($Content))) { call_user_func(array($Content, $method)); } else { die('Bad Request'. $method); } $Content::$var = 'Goodbye World'; echo $Libraries::$var . • How can I get jQuery to perform a synchronous, rather than asynchronous, AJAX request?

    - by Artem Tikhomirov
    Hello. I have a javascript widget witch provides standard extension points. One of them is the beforecreate function. It should return false to prevent an item from being created. I've added an AJAX call into this function using jQuery: beforecreate: function(node,targetNode,type,to) { jQuery.get('http://example.com/catalog/create/' + targetNode.id + '?name=' + encode(to.inp[0].value), function(result) { if(result.isOk == false) alert(result.message); }); } But I want to prevent my widget from creating the item, so I should return false in the mother-function, not in the callback. Is there any way to perform a synchronized AJAX request using jQuery or any other API? Thanks.

  • Whats faster in Javascript a bunch of small setInterval loops, or one big one?

    - by RobertWHurst
    Just wondering if its worth it to make a monolithic loop function or just add loops were they're needed. The big loop option would just be a loop of callbacks that are added dynamically with an add function. adding a function would look like this setLoop(function(){ alert('hahaha! I\'m a really annoying loop that bugs you every tenth of a second'); }); setLoop would add the function to the monolithic loop. so is the is worth anything in performance or should I just stick to lots of little loops using setInterval?

  • taking text from title attribute and adding it into a div in jquery

    - by ivordesign
    Basically i'm trying to grap the text from the title attribute in a link and show it in a paragaph in another div when a user hovers of the item, and then hide it when the user moves away. so far what i've got is (function($) { $.fn.showText = function() { $(this).hover( function() { $(this) .data('title', $(this).attr('title')) .removeAttr('title') .appendTo(".itemDecription p"); }, function() { $(this).attr('title', $("this").data('title')); } ); } })(jQuery); //call the plugin $(function(){ $('.wrapper ul li a').showText(); }); I got the code from somewhere else on stackoverflow, but i just can't seem to get it to work, and help would be much appriciated.

  • Code equivalence between Javascript and PHP

    - by xdevel2000
    I'm trying to learn PHP and I wish to know if there are some function equivalence constructs: In JS I can do: var t = function() {}; t(); myObj.DoStuff = function() {} // here I add a method at run-time myObj.DoStuff(); myObj["DoStuff"](); var j = myObj.DoStuff; j(); and so other things with function evaluation. In Js objects are associative arrays so every properties is accessible with the subscript notation... Can I add a method at run-time to a class template so next its object instances can have it? In JS I can do that via a prototype function property.

  • Jquery and binding an event to an iframe

    - by dbr
    **I'm currently using a jquery textselect plugin to fire alerts based on the selection text anywhere on the page and it works just fine doing something like: $(document).ready(function() { $(document).bind('textselect', function(e) { alert(e.text); }); }); I've since had to add an iframe to the page and I need the text selection to work on text within the iframe as well. I'm trying to do something like this but it's not working: $(document).ready(function() { $('#iframeId').load(function() { $(document.getElementById("iframeId").contentWindow).bind('textselect',function(e) { alert(e.text); }); }); At this point I've tried a whole mess of ways to reference the iframe document without any success. Any ideas?**

  • JQuery: Specify placement of error messages inline using Metadata and Validate plugins

    - by jalperin
    I'm doing form validation using JQuery with the validate and metadata plugins. I'm using the metadata plugin so I can specify the rules and messages inline in the html form instead of in the javascript in the page . I'm getting an error when I try to specify the location of the error message using errorPlacement. (If I specify it in the section it works fine, but not if I specify it inline.) Here's what my html looks like: <input name="list" id="list1" type="checkbox" validate="{required:true, minlength:1, messages:{required:'Please select at least one newsletter.', minlength:'Please select at least one newsletter.'}, errorPlacement: function(error, element) { error.appendTo('#listserror');} }"> As reported by the validate debug function, the error is: "error.appendTo is not a function." It works fine if I specify it in the section like this: $().ready(function() { $("#subscribeForm").validate({ errorPlacement: function(error, element) { if (element.attr("name") == "list" ) error.appendTo("#listserror"); else error.insertAfter(element); } }); });

  • How do I create a random method name

    - by Russ Bradberry
    I plan on using JSONP to call an external webservice to get around the fact that I dont want to create a global function that could potentially conflict with the calling page. I thought that creating a random function name and passing it up would work. Something like this: <script src="www.foo.com/b?cb=d357534"> where cb is the callback function name, the server would return d357534({my json data}); what i want to know is how to create the random function name, im sure i could use eval but is this the best way to go about it? essentially, what i am trying to do is this: var d + Math.floor(Math.random()*1000001) = function(){...

  • jquery hasClass "active" on ul#navigation li on page load not working

    - by Ross
    $(document).ready(function(){ $("li").click(function(){ if ($(this).hasClass("active") ) $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1.0); }); }); I have a navigation bar made and am using this code to add a transparency effect on hover: $(document).ready(function(){ $(".thumbs").fadeTo("slow", 0.6); $(".thumbs").hover(function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 1.0); },function(){ $(this).fadeTo("slow", 0.4); }); }); I'm also using hoverIntent. The opacity rollover works a treat, but I'd like my "active" page to have 100% opacity, but I can't seem to get it to work..what am I doing wrong? the link in questions HTML is: <ul id="navigation"> <li class="active"><a href="page.htm"></a></li> </ul> the nav works perfect minus my "active" class so I think I provided all the necessary code. thank you.

  • Laptop authentication/logon via accelometer tilt, flip, and twist

    - by wonsungi
    Looking for another application/technology: A number of years ago, I read about a novel way to authenticate and log on to a laptop. The user simply had to hold the laptop in the air and execute a simple series of tilts and flips to the laptop. By logging accelerometer data, this creates a unique signature for the user. Even if an attacker watched and repeated the exact same motions, the attacker could not replicate the user's movements closely enough. I am looking for information about this technology again, but I can't find anything. It may have been an actual feature on a laptop, or it may have just been a research project. I think I read about it in a magazine like Wired. Does anyone have more information about authentication via unique accelerometer signatures? Here are the closest articles I have been able to find: Knock-based commands for your Linux laptop Shake Well Before Use: Authentication Based on Accelerometer Data[PDF] Inferring Identity using Accelerometers in Television Remote Controls User Evaluation of Lightweight User Authentication with a Single Tri-Axis Accelerometer Identifying Users of Portable Devices from Gait Pattern with Accelerometers[PDF] 3D Signature Biometrics Using Curvature Moments[PDF] MoViSign: A novel authentication mechanism using mobile virtual signatures

  • adding multiple rows to jquery Datatables dynamically

    - by arrowill12
    I am trying to add multiple rows at once to a jQuery Datatable. I would like to be able to create a string such as the one below and call a function to add these elements as rows in the table. Is there a function that will allow me to do this? var trString = "<tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr><tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr><tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr>" I have seen the fnAddData function but I would not be able to add my custom classes dynamically to the rows using that function. Also I have tried fnAddTr but I keep receiving an error saying my object does not have the method "getelementsByTagName" again, is there a function that will allow me to add a string of "" to a datatable?

  • How can I call some javascript functions but, waiting for the previous has finished?

    - by texai
    I want to call some functions but waiting for the previous one has finished. I know jQuery provides a callback argument in several functions, but I want to learn how implement this behaviour in my own jQuery plugin. So this is the case: After read answers from my previous question I wrote this: (function(callback){ $('#art1').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000); callback(); })((function(callback2){ $('#art2').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000); callback2(); })(function(){ $('#art3').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000); })); But still not working. Three animates still starting at same time. I want they were called one after other. But without using: $('#art1').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000,'linear',function(){ $('#art2').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000,'linear',function(){ $('#art3').animate({'width':'1000px'},1000); }); });

  • Remove empty subfolders with PHP

Here is the code developed so far: function RemoveEmptySubFolders($starting_from_path) { // Returns true if the folder contains no files function IsEmptyFolder($folder) { return (count(array_diff(glob($folder.DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR."*"), Array(".", ".."))) == 0); } // Cycles thorugh the subfolders of $from_path and // returns true if at least one empty folder has been removed function DoRemoveEmptyFolders($from_path) { if(IsEmptyFolder($from_path)) { rmdir($from_path); return true; } else { $Dirs = glob($from_path.DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR."*", GLOB_ONLYDIR); $ret = false; foreach($Dirs as $path) { $res = DoRemoveEmptyFolders($path); $ret = $ret ? $ret : $res; } return $ret; } } while (DoRemoveEmptyFolders($starting_from_path)) {} } As per my tests this function works, though I would be very delighted to see any ideas for better performing code.
