  • Why use "foo" in coding examples? [closed]

    - by ThePower
Possible Duplicates: To foo bar, or not to foo bar: that is the question. Bit of a general question here, but it's something I would like to know! Whenever I am looking for resolutions to my C# problems online, I always come across "foo" being used as an example. Does this represent anything or is it just one of those unexplained catchy object names, used by many people in examples?

hey, I met these latex format problem, anyone can offer some help? the .tex file: \begin{table}{} \renewcommand{\arraystretch}{1.1} \caption{Cambridge Flow feature definition and description} \label{cambridge-feature}} \centering \begin{tabular}{|c|c|} \hline\bfseries Abbreviation &\bfseries Description\\ \hline serv-port & Server port\\ \hline clnt-port & Client port\\ \hline push-pkts-serv & count of all packets with\\ & push bit set in TCP header (server to client)\\ \hline init-win-bytes-clnt & the total number of bytes \\ & sent in initial window (client to server)\\ \hline init-win-bytes-serv & the total number of bytes sent\\ & in initial window (server to client)\\ \hline avg-seg-size-clnt & average segment size: \\ & data bytes devided by number of packets\\ \hline IP-bytes-med-clnt & median of total bytes in IP packet\\ \hline act-data-pkt-serv & count of packet with at least one byte \\ & of TCP data playload (server to client)\\ \hline data-bytes-var-clnt & variance of total \\ & bytes in packets (client to server)\\ \hline min-seg-size-serv & minimum segment size \\ & observed (server to client)\\ \hline RTT-samples-serv & total number of RTT samples\\ & found (server to client),\\ & {\bf see also \cite{Moore05discriminators}}\\ \hline push-pkts-clnt & count of all packets with push bit set \\ & in TCP header (server to client)\\ \hline \end{tabular} \end{table} and the error message: ! Extra }, or forgotten \endgroup. \@endfloatbox ...pagefalse \outer@nobreak \egroup \color@endbox l.892 \end{table} I've deleted a group-closing symbol because it seems to be spurious, as in $x}$'. But perhaps the } is legitimate and you forgot something else, as in\hbox{$x}'. In such cases the way to recover is to insert both the forgotten and the deleted material, e.g., by typing `I$}'. there is no $ in my table, also this { are matching with the }, and also after I comment the citation, the error remains. anyone can offer help? really appreciate all the comments! ! • C++ Pointers, objects, etc

    - by Zeee
It may be a bit confusing, but... Let's say I have a vector type in a class to store objects, something like vector, and I have methods on my class that will later return Operators from this vector. Now if any of my methods receives an Operator, will I have any trouble to insert it directly into the vector? Or should I use the copy constructor to create a new Operator and put this new one on the vector?

  • Globals are bad! But should I use them in this context?

    - by Matt
Would setting the $link to my database be one thing that I should use a GLOBAL scope for? In my setting of (lots of functions)...it seems as though having only one variable that is in the global scope would be wise. I am currently using the functions to transfer it back and forth so that way I do not have it in the global scope. But it is a bit of a hindrance to my script. Please advise.

  • Java Class comment

    - by sarah xia
Hi, The developer guide in my company says class comments should go before Package statements, i.e it sould be the very first thing in a java file. I just find it a bit old. Isn't it normal practice to put class comments after import and above class declaration? Puzzled Sarah

  • Dynamic JPA 2.0 query using Criteria API

    - by rrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hello all, I am a bit stucked constructing a dynamic query using the CriteriaBuilder of JPA 2.0. I have quite a common use case I guess: User supplies a arbitrary amount of search parameters X to be and / or concatenated: like : select e from Foo where (name = X1 or name = X2 .. or name = Xn ) The Method or of CriteriaBuilder is not dynamic: Predicate or(Predicate... restrictions) Ideas? Samples?

  • Embedding a flowchart design surface in a .NET application

    - by PaulB
I need to incorporate a flowchart design surface into an application we're developing to allow users to create what are essentially workflows/schedules. I need to be able to create my own 'shapes', set custom properties on them and possibly have a bit of logic in there too (if, while etc). I know I need to take a look at hosting WF in the application. It looks like a good fit, but what other designer compoments out there could I use?

  • SmartGWT alternatives

    - by Roger
I have been using SmartGWT but have run into trouble mixing SmartGWT with other frameworks such as Wicket. Infact it has been a bit of a disaster and I regret going with it in the first place. I do not want this question to turn into any type of flame war, so therefore would just like people to list alternatives and their experience with those alternatives.

  • perl regex escape characters

    - by freshWoWer
I have heard perl is a good language at doing regex but i am a bit confused at the characters that requires escaping I tested the code on http://regexlib.com/RETester.aspx and got the result I want //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp#1 //home/dev/((.*?)/[^/]+).*# Match $1 $2 //home/dev/abc/code/hello/world.cpp# abc/code abc However, I am not quite sure how do i translate this to perl code I tried, \/\/home\/dev\/\(\(\.\*\?\)\/\[\^\/\]\+\)\.\*\# and \/\/home\/dev\/((.*?)\/[^\/]+).*\# and both failed Don't you think the escaping makes the regex very unreadable? Am i using something wrong?

  • Cruisecontrol.NET & IIS7 Static File Handler Problem

    - by Mr. Flibble
I'm trying to get Cruisecontrol.NET running with Server 2008/IIS7 and when I try and navigate to the dashboard I get the following error: HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. I'm a bit lost in IIS7 so it could be something pretty straightforward. They (cc.net) do some funny stuff with http handlers in the web.config which may be related to the problem: Anyone have any pointers?

  • Do any JS implementations currently support (or have support on the roadmap for) fast, vectorized op

    - by agnoster
I'd like to do a bit of matrix/vector arithmetic in JavaScript, and was wondering if any browsers or other JS implementations actually have support for vectorized operations, for instance for quickly summing the entries of two Arrays (or summing, or whatever). Even if that currently doesn't mean it compiles down to vectorized operations, at least some language support would be nice for when it does get implemented - I'd take the existence of functions or syntax to support it as a step in the right direction. (Understandably, "vectorization javascript" searches are pretty much all about graphics and SVG.)

  • Ajax and gridviews

    - by Dofs
Hi, can any of you recommend a good ajax gridview for asp.net? I have looked at telriks, but 1000$ is a bit too expansive for my taste. I don't need a whole lot of features, but rather it to be fast.

  • Aquatic Prime on 10.6?

    - by Kevin
Hello, I have 2 applications that I use with Aquatic Prime. One is an application just with the Aquatic Prime framework, and the other is an application that I've been working on that has been incorporated with the Aquatic Prime framework. The first application I mentioned before has its SDK set to 10.5 with the architecture to 32-bit. The second application I made has its SDK that is set to 10.6 (which it has to since I need NSRunningApplication) and its architecture to 32-bit. Now my question is, whenever I debug my first application it works perfectly fine, but with my second it gives me this interrupted error right after Running. What's going wrong? I've tried doing some breakpoints like "objc-exception-throw" but all it says is stopped at breakpoint 1. I need 10.6 in my application, but I also need Aquatic Prime. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Ok here's the one from the stack trace which I have no idea how to read: 0x91cdff11 <+0000> push %ebp 0x91cdff12 <+0001> mov %esp,%ebp 0x91cdff14 <+0003> sub $0x28,%esp 0x91cdff17 <+0006> mov %ebx,-0xc(%ebp) 0x91cdff1a <+0009> mov %esi,-0x8(%ebp) 0x91cdff1d <+0012> mov %edi,-0x4(%ebp) 0x91cdff20 <+0015> call 0x91cdff25 <objc_exception_throw+20> 0x91cdff25 <+0020> pop %ebx 0x91cdff26 <+0021> mov 0x8(%ebp),%esi 0x91cdff29 <+0024> lea 0xe4cbb8b(%ebx),%edi 0x91cdff2f <+0030> mov 0x4(%edi),%eax 0x91cdff32 <+0033> test %eax,%eax 0x91cdff34 <+0035> jne 0x91cdff3b <objc_exception_throw+42> 0x91cdff36 <+0037> call 0x91ce4f53 <set_default_handlers> 0x91cdff3b <+0042> mov %esi,(%esp) 0x91cdff3e <+0045> nop 0x91cdff3f <+0046> nopl 0x0(%eax) 0x91cdff43 <+0050> mov %esi,(%esp) 0x91cdff46 <+0053> call *0x4(%edi) 0x91cdff49 <+0056> lea 0xfd44(%ebx),%eax 0x91cdff4f <+0062> mov %eax,(%esp) 0x91cdff52 <+0065> call 0x91ce4e1f <_objc_fatal> The the GDB tells me its all good: run [Switching to process 990] Running… 2009-10-14 15:20:33.233 ApplicationName[990:a0f] init Sincerely, Kevin

  • Working with .NET Project Files and Schemas?

    - by Mitchel Sellers
I'm working on a project that will require me to take various .vbproj and .csproj files and determine which version of Visual Studio they were built with and then to get information such as the output dll name etc. Does anyone know if there is a schema available for these files? Google and MSDN searches are coming up a bit blank.

  • Wait for function to finish before starting again.

    - by Matthew Brown
Good Morning, I am trying to call the same function everytime the user presses a button. Here is what happens at the moment.. User clicks button - Calls function - function takes 1000ms+ to finish (due to animation with jQuery and AJAX calls) What I want to happen is every time the user presses the button it adds the function to the queue, waits for the previous call to finish, and then starts.. Is this possible? Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing.. Thanks Matthew

  • How to Determine the Size of MSADO Command Parameters

    - by Adam
I am new to MS ADO and trying to understand how to set the size on command parameters as created by the command.CreateParameter (Name, Type, Direction, Size, Value) The documentation says the following: Size Optional. A Long value that specifies the maximum length for the parameter value in characters or bytes. ... If you specify a variable-length data type in the Type argument, you must either pass a Size argument or set the Size property of the Parameter object before appending it to the Parameters collection; otherwise, an error occurs. 1.) What should one pass for fixed-size parameters? Is it a "don't care"? I was a bit confused by the example found here, in which they set size to 3 for an adInteger parameter with Value set to a variant of type VT_I2 pPrmByRoyalty->Type = adInteger; pPrmByRoyalty->Size = 3; pPrmByRoyalty->Direction = adParamInput; pPrmByRoyalty->Value = vtroyal; VT_I2 implies two bytes. A tagVARIANT struct is 16 bytes. How did they land on three? I see that the enum value for adInteger happens to be three, but I suspect that is just a coincidence. So it's a bit confusing what to pass for fixed-size parameters. The team I'm working with has always passed sizeof(int) for adInteger, and it seems to work. Is that correct? Now, for "variable-length" parameters: we are instructed by the documentation to pass "the maximum length .. in characters or bytes". 2.) For adVarChar, is it sufficient to pass the max width as defined in the database? 3.) What about the Wide types (e.g. adVarWChar)? Is it characters or bytes? 4.) How about adVariant, which could contain fixed- or variable-length data? 5.) Do arrays ever come into play here? (we don't pass them as parameters, just curious) Any references or personal insights are welcome.

  • Is it still worth reading Programming Windows by Charles Petzold?

    - by Morke
I've been wanting to delve a bit deeper in win32 programming, and I was wondering what the best book on this subject is. Most people seem to recommend Programming Windows by Charles Petzold, however, the latest version of this book is from 1998 and deals with windows 98. Is it still worth reading or should I try other books? If so, which ones?

  • recaptcha still submits form when one word invalid

    - by luckytaxi
Um so I was in for a little bit of a surprise tonight. I spent a good 20 mins trying to figure out why I was able to submit a form knowing that what I entered into the recaptcha field was invalid. Is it true that you don't need to input the exact words it displays? If it shows me two words and I misspelled one of the words, I still pass validation? Same goes if "hello world" and I input "hell man" it still works.
