• Variable height header with scrollable content area filling remaining viewport area

  I've seen versions of this simple problem raised a dozen times here and elsewhere on the web, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me yet so I'm asking it again. I want a webpage with a variable height full width header (height based on contents). Below that I want a content area that fills the rest of the browser viewport. If the content is larger than the remaining space in the viewport then I want the content area to scroll. I don't need this to work on IE6. I don't care whether the solution uses CSS, tables or a mixture of the two, just no frames and no Javascript. For a bonus point fix a variable height footer to the bottom of the page.

• Radix Sort in Python [on hold]

  I could use some help. How would you write a program in python that implements a radix sort? Here is some info: A radix sort for base 10 integers is a based on sorting punch cards, but it turns out the sort is very ecient. The sort utilizes a main bin and 10 digit bins. Each bin acts like a queue and maintains its values in the order they arrive. The algorithm begins by placing each number in the main bin. Then it considers the ones digit for each value. The rst value is removed and placed in the digit bin corresponding to the ones digit. For example, 534 is placed in digit bin 4 and 662 is placed in the digit bin 2. Once all the values in the main bin are placed in the corresponding digit bin for ones, the values are collected from bin 0 to bin 9 (in that order) and placed back in the main bin. The process continues with the tens digit, the hundreds, and so on. After the last digit is processed, the main bin contains the values in order. Use randint, found in random, to create random integers from 1 to 100000. Use a list comphrension to create a list of varying sizes (10, 100, 1000, 10000, etc.). To use indexing to access the digits rst convert the integer to a string. For this sort to work, all numbers must have the same number of digits. To zero pad integers with leading zeros, use the string method str.zfill(). Once main bin is sorted, convert the strings back to integers. I'm not sure how to start this, Any help is appreciated. • How can I check if a particular jQuery UI function is available and use a different function if it i

  I'm writing a jQuery plugin and I would like my code to take advantage of the jQuery UI show(effect, [options], [speed], [callback]) and hide(effect, [options], [speed], [callback]) functions, which allow you to show and hide elements with a nice animation. However, I'd also like my plugin to degrade gracefully if jQuery UI isn't available, switching back to use the basic, non-animating show() and hide() functions present in the standard jQuery API. I'll need to test for the show and hide functions specifically, as even if jQuery UI is available it could potentially be a custom version, without the Effects components included. At first I thought that I might be able to do something like: if(typeof myelement.show('blind', 'slow') == 'undefined') { myelement.show('blind', 'slow'); } else { myelement.show(); } But of course this doesn't work, as even if UI isn't present, show() is still a function, it just has a different signature—so typeof returns object in either case. So, what's the best way for me to check if jQuery UI is available to my plugin? Any help is much appreciated!

• MySQL Create tables without commiting current transaction

  I'd like my program to be able to install plugins, and rollback all the changes made if an error occurs. So I create a transaction that keeps all the things that were added while installing the plugin. The problem is that the plugin may want to create tables, and doing so automatically commits the current transaction in MySQL. See Statements That Cause an Implicit Commit on MySQL web site. Any idea on how I could do it? I thought of using temporary tables as they are not automatically commited, unless they are using too much memory, but it looks like temporary tables cannot be rolled back anyway (and I haven't found a way to convert them to permanent tables). I just found out about "save points" (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/savepoint.html), but I don't really understand how/when it should be used nor if it can help me achieve what I want.

• IE8 CSS Table Effect

  I've been trying to make this cross browser (specifically IE), but I do not want to use tables. I will not be able to specify the container width with CSS because its contents (the image) will dynamically change with Javascript, so I need the container to 'auto-size' horizontally. The desired effect would be a centered image with two sets of text (one of the left and one of the left) directly underneath the image, aligned to it's inner edges.   Hey all- I'm doing some performance-critical Python work and want to create a function that removes a few elements from a list if they meet certain criteria. I'd rather not create any copies of the list because it's filled with a lot of really large objects. Functionality I want to implement: def listCleanup(listOfElements): i = 0 for element in listOfElements: if(element.meetsCriteria()): del(listOfElements[i]) i += 1 return listOfElements myList = range(10000) myList = listCleanup(listOfElements) I'm not familiar with the low-level workings of Python. Is myList being passed by value or by reference? How can I make this faster?   I'm working on a universal app that uses a SplitViewController to present a master-detail view. In the iPad HIG on Split Views, Apple states: In general, indicate the current selection in the left pane in a persistent way. This behavior helps people understand the relationship between the item in the left pane and the contents of the right pane. This is important because the contents of the right pane can change, but they should always remain related to the item selected in the left pane. So I'm trying to maintain selection state on the left. Easy enough when the user taps, I just remove the deselectRowAtIndexPath:animated: message from tableView:didSelectRowAtIndexPath: implementation. But, I also want the selection state to show up by default (without a user tap). I wound up putting this in my tableView:cellForRowAtIndexPath: implementation: if (UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOM() == UIUserInterfaceIdiomPad) { if (cellShouldBeSelected) cell.selected = YES; else cell.selected = NO; } The behavior I'm seeing, is that when the cells finall appear, for a fraction of a section the cell is indeed selected, but then the selection disappears without any user interaction. Any ideas? I set the new clearsSelectionOnViewWillAppear property to NO, but that doesn't seem to fix it, and it shouldn't really matter because I'm marking the cell as selected long after viewWillAppear is called - I'm actually doing it after some network activity and then sending the table view a reloadData message.

  Hi again. I am using the next instructions to get some registers from my Database. Create the needed models (from the params module): $obj_paramtype_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype(); $obj_param_model = new Params_Model_DbTable_Param(); Getting the available locales from the database // This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Row_Abstract class object $obj_paramtype = $obj_paramtype_model->getParamtypeByValue('available_locales'); // This is a query used to add conditions to the next sentence. This is executed from the Params_Model_DbTable_Param instance class, that depends from Params_Model_DbTable_Paramtype class (reference map and dependentTables arrays are fine in both classes) $obj_select = $this->select()->where('deleted_at IS NULL')->order('name'); // Execute the next query, applying the select restrictions. This returns a Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. This means "Find Params by Paramtype" $obj_params_rowset = $obj_paramtype->findDependentRowset('Params_Model_DbTable_Param', 'Paramtype', $obj_paramtype); // Here the firebug log displays the queries.... Zend_Registry::get('log')->debug($obj_params_rowset); I have a profiler for all my DB executions from Zend. At this point the log and profiler objects (that includes Firebug writers), shows the executed SQL Queries, and the last line displays the resulting Zend_Db_Table_Rowset_Abstract class object. If I execute the SQL Queries in some MySQL Client, the results are as expected. But the Zend Firebug log writer displays as NULL the column values with latin characters (ñ). In other words, the external SQL client shows es_CO | Español de Colombia and en_US | English of United States but the Query results from Zend displays (and returns) es_CO | null and en_US | English of United States. I've deleted the ñ character from Español de Colombia and the query results are just fine in my Zend Log Firebug screen, and in the final Zend Form element. The MySQL database, tables and columns are in UTF-8 - utf8_unicode_ci collation. All my zend framework pages are in UTF-8 charset. I'm using XAMPP 1.7.1 (PHP 5.2.9, Apache at port 90 and MySQL 5.1.33-community) running on Windows 7 Ultimate; Zend Framework 1.10.1. I'm sorry if there is so much information, but I don't really know why could that happen, so I tryed to provide as much related information as I could to help to find some answer.

  One thing that has bothered me about C# since its release was the lack of a generic IsNumeric function. I know it is difficult to generate a one-stop solution to detrmine if a value is numeric. I have used the following solution in the past, but it is not the best practice because I am generating an exception to determine if the value is IsNumeric: public bool IsNumeric(string input) { try { int.Parse(input); return true; } catch { return false; } } Is this still the best way to approach this problem or is there a more efficient way to determine if a value is numeric in C#?

• How to register a function in a driver code as its ISR

  Following the feedback i got from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2683682/new-to-linux-kernel-driver-development/2683819 I have written a driver (.c file) by comparing it with an existing driver and "borrowing" heavily from its code. The driver is registered fine and init() and probe() are working fine. I am also able to access the peripheral device registers. :-) However i am a bit hazy about the IRQ/ISR. The peripheral-device is a input device and raises an interrupt on a GPIO pin. How do i move ahead from my current state ( init(), probe(), etc. ) to be able to handle the IRQ and execute my ISR function?? Many-Thanks in Advance

• AutoKey - clipboard.get_selection() function fails on certain strings

  I've simplified my script so you can focus on the essence my problem. In AutoKey (not AutoHotKey), I made a Hot-Key (shift-alt-T) that performs this script on any string I have highlighted (like in gedit for example -- but any other gui editor too). strSelectedText = clipboard.get_selection() keyboard.send_keys(" " + strSelectedText) The script modifies the highlighted text and adds a space to the beginning of the string. It works for most strings I highlight, but not this one: * Copyright © 2008–2012 Lonnie Best. Licensed under the MIT License. It works for this string: * Add a Space 2.0.1 but not on this one: * Add a Space 2.0.1 – At the python command prompt, it has no problem any of those strings, yet the clipboard.get_selection() function seems to get corrupted by them. I'm rather new to python scripting, so I'm not sure if this is an AutoKey bug, or if I'm missing some knowledge I should know about encoding/preparing strings in python. Please help. What I want to do is fairly simple, I need to take the values from two different tables and copy them into an master table when a new row is inserted into one of the two tables. • Checking inherited attributes in an 'ancestry' based SQL table

  I'm using the ancestry gem to help organise my app's tree structure in the database. It basically writes a childs ancestor information to a special column called 'ancestry'. The ancestry column for a particular child might look like '1/34/87' where the parent of this child is 87, and then 87's parent is 34 and 34's is 1. It seems possible that we could select rows from this table each with a subquery that checks all the ancestors to see if a certain attribute it set. E.g. in my app you can hide an item and its children just by setting the parent element's visibility column to 0. I want to be able to find all the items where none of their ancestors are hidden. I tried converting the slashes to comma's with the REPLACE command but IN required a set of comma separated integers rather than one string with comma separated string numbers. It's funny, because I can do this query in two steps, e.g. retrieve the row, then take its ancestry column, split out the id's and make another query that checks that the id is IN that set of id's and that visibility isn't ever 0 and whala! But joining these into one query seems to be quite a task. Much searching has shown a few answers but none really do what I want. SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE id = 99; 99's ancestry column reads '1/34/87' SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE visibility = 0 AND id IN (1,34,87); kind of backwards, but if this returns no rows then the item is visible. Has anyone come across this before and come up with a solution. I don't really want to go the stored procedure route. It's for a rails app.

• Procedure or function expects parameter which was not supplied

  Driving me mad on a personal project; I know I've done this before but elsewhere and don't have the code. As far as I can see, I'm setting the parameter, I'm setting its value, the connection is open, yet when I try to fill the dataset I get the error 'Procedure or function expects parameter "@test" which was not supplied'. (This is obviously a simplified test! Same error on this or the real, rather longer code though.)   I'm starting with Perl and I'm trying to do a script that log me out of a page (I already did the login one). The think is, I'm trying to use find_link function from WWW::Mechanize (I also tried WWW::Mechanize::Firefox) to find the logout link, but it's not working. So, my question is: is the event onmouseover avoiding that link to be founded? I think WWW::Mechanize::Firefox supports javascript but maybe it's not correct. Logout Is there a way to do what I want? Any help or suggestions will be highly appreciated.

The number of records is equal to the number of joins made to the ControlAction table, in this case two. How can I avoid this? If I remove the SetFetchMode from the listViews query, the actions are loaded lazily through a proxy which I don't want.
