  • Catch FileNotFoundException in AsyncTask method

    I'm getting the favicon of a website with a method. Of course not every website has a favicon. So I want to catch it. The app doesn't crash if the website doesn't have a favicon but I still get an FileNotFoundException in the LogCat. The problem I'm encountering is that I can't catch it When I add `catch (FileNotFoundException f) to my try-catch block it tells me Unreachable catch block for FileNotFoundException. This exception is never thrown from the try statement body. The options I have is to remove it or to add a throws declaration to the doInBackground-method. The latter is not possible.     After making my server sign outgoing email I started to wonder what the benefits are. This is the opposite of a previously asked question. Naively I see two benefits: We can throw away all emails which don’t carry a valid signature: Wrong! Mail forwarders (like Mailman) will produce emails from someone at «domain which signs» which are not signed correctly (in their forwarded shape). We can skip spam checking on signed email: Wrong! A spammer can send a single email through e.g. gmail.com and then resend that email as-is (w/o changing headers) to a million people. So what are the selling points of DKIM?

  • SoundPool.load() and FileDescriptor from file

    I tried using the load function of the SoundPool that takes a FileDescriptor, because I wanted to be able to set the offset and length. The File is not stored in the Ressources but a file on the storage card. Even though neither the load nor the play function of the SoundPool throw any Exception or print anything to the console, the sound is not played. Using the same code, but use the file path string in the SoundPool constructor works perfectly. This is how I have tried the loading (start equals 0 and length is the length of the file in miliseconds): FileInputStream fileIS = new FileInputStream(new File(mFile)); mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(fileIS.getFD(), start, length, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); If I would use this, it works: mStreamID = mSoundPool.load(mFile, 0); mPlayingStreamID = mSoundPool.play(mStreamID, 1f, 1f, 1, 0, 1f); Any ideas anyone?     Hi guys, I am trying to get this code to run, but I get an IllegalStateException when I run this code saying that the content of the listview wasn't notified, yet I have a notification upon updating the data. This is a custom listview adapter.   • How to turn archiving off in thunderbird 3.1?

    Hi I don't really understand what the archiving really does in thunderbird but it is kinda annoying. Like if I get a email and read it. It will turn to read in my inbox, but will show up as unread in my archives section. So the next time I get an email the thunderbird notification will popup and show that I have 1 new email but will show all those unread one in my archive. So even though I read all of the emails in my inbox the next time I get an email I get a popup notification of 6 messages when it should be 1 since 5 of those where in the archive and marked as unread. Anyone know how to stop this?

  • Emails sent using Flex app are delayed

    I'm currently building an application in Flex that utilizes SMTP Mailer to automatically send out emails to the user when a particular condition is satisfied. The application checks this condition every 30 seconds. The condition is satisfied based on new records being returned from a database table. The problem is as follows: When the condition is first satisfied, the email is delivered to the user with no issues. The second time the condition is satisfied, the email is not delivered. In the smtp logs, the delivery attempt appears to get hung up on the following line: 354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF> No error codes are present in the smtp logs, but I do trace the following event from the SMTP Mailer class: [Event type="mailError" bubbles=false cancelable=false eventPhase=2] When the condition is satisfied a third time, the email that was not delivered when the condition was satisfied the previous time is now delivered, along with the email for this instance. This pattern then repeats itself, with the next email not being sent followed by two emails being sent simulatneously when the condition is met again. The smtp server being used is Windows 2003, on an internal network. The email is being sent to an outlook account hosted on an exchange server that is also on this internal network.     i am writing a sendmail module to email some things to my site users. for testing it i use my own email at yahoo to receive this email. but something woeful happened. about 1200 sent to my email address at yahoo at a moment and yahoo sent all of them to spam box. now i can't send any email to yahoo addresses and my server gives me this message in mailq: delivery temporarily suspended: host g.mx.mail.yahoo.com[98.137.54.238] refused to talk to me... how can i solve this problem?? many users of my site have yahoo email address. my server uses postfix. thanks for helping .

    Hi all i am developing an application which has a general text entry form. So while testing on my moto droid, i am facing a strange issue-- when i touch an input field ( which is at lower end of the screen) -- the on screen keyboard pops up and hides the input field. So user have to enter blindly. So is this a sdk issue OR it is particular for droids OR am i doing something wrong??? I have tested this same form on G1, Hero..i see no issues at all. Please help...

  • Expandable listview with selectall checkbox : group itemclick and scrolling bug

    I have an ExpandableListView with a checkbox next to group name and when expanded, child items with checkbox as well. Let's suppose I have 4 groups with 50 childs. When a group is expanded, and I click on select all checkbox, everything works fine, all checkbox are selected and keep their state if I scroll. But if I scroll untill the last child of the list, scrolling gets buggy after that ( scrolling to the top and then touching the screen to stop the scrolling doesn't work anymore), clicking on group doesn't work anymore too, untill I click on selectall checkbox again. Clicking on a child checkbox does nothing, I must click on selectall checkbox for everything to work. I changed Focusable state of the child checkbox, group checkbox and tried many ways, but I can not find a solution to this. Do you have an idea of where it is coming from?

    Hi, For various reasons, i'm trying to write my own input keyboard. So far all is going well except that of creating the suggestions. I've found the latinIME algorithm, which is all good. However i'm having major difficulty working out how to load the dictionary in the first place. I've had a good look round the net, and found various suggestions, but no definitive answers, and i cant seem to get any of them to work.   • Possibility of a custom Contacts field with a set list of values and Contacts lookup performance

    I'm pretty sure it's not viable to do what I'd like to based on some initial research, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask the community of experts here in case someone knows a way. I'd like to create a custom field for contacts that the user is able to edit from the main Contacts app; however, the user should only be allowed to select from a list of four specific values. A short list of string values would be ideal, but an int with a min/max range would suffice. I'm interested in knowing if it's possible either way, but also wondering if it make sense to go this route performance wise. More specifically, would it be better to look up a contact (based on a phone number) each time a call or SMS message is received or better to store my own set of data (consisting of name, numbers, and the custom field) and just syncing contact info in a thread every so often? Or syncing contacts the first time the app is run and then registering for changes using ContentObserver? Here is a similar question with an answer that explains how to add a custom field to a contact. Thanks in advance.

    We have a multi-tenant email relay set up that has a transport map file that looks like this: domain1.com smtp:mail.domain1.com domain2.com smtp:mail.domain2.com domain3.com smtp:mail.domain3.com [etc] In the event mail.domain1.com is down, email for domain1.com will be held by the postfix server until mail.domain1.com starts responding again. However we have a customer who has a backup DSL line on their site, an their email server is also available over this. How can I tell the transport to failover to a different host if the first is unavailable?

    I'm writing an app that will host widgets. The app has custom view (which probably is the source of issue). I obtain AppWidgetHostView like this private AppWidgetHostView widget; ... AppWidgetProviderInfo appWidgetInfo = mAppWidgetManager.getAppWidgetInfo(appWidgetId); widget = mAppWidgetHost.createView(this, appWidgetId, appWidgetInfo); widget.setAppWidget(appWidgetId, appWidgetInfo); mView.addWidget(widget, appWidgetInfo); mView.addWidget() basically just remembers this AppWidgetHostView instance and then draws it directly onto canvas. Visually everything is fine - I can see the actual widget. But the issue is with reacting on UI events. Please advise what needs to be done in the parent view in order to correctly trigger handlers in the widgets like onClick(). Notes: I used standard widgets which normally react on click events. None worked. I also created my own test widget with listener (via views.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.appwidget_text, pending);) and onClick() is successfully triggered if the widget is added on Homescreen, but doesn't work in my app. mView correctly detects click event and I tried to call widget.performClick() there, which returns false meaning onClickListener is not registered in the widget. But according to source mAppWidgetHost.createView() would call updateAppWidget which would register its onClick listener.. Please advise where to look at. Thanks

    I have about 700 items to display in the grid view. On a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 this is not a problem: it has enough memory. On a HTC Explorer the heap is overflown. So I want to load data dynamically regarding current scroll position (N rows for screen + 5 rows as a tail). And I want to show a scrollbar which represents the position in total rows. But I don't want to draw items that I don't see. In other words, I want to create something similar to UITableView in iOS. How can I do this?

    I'm overriding onPrepareOptionsMenu to hide and show menu items. When testing it with the API level 16 emulator; onPrepareOptionsMenu is not called when opening the menu for the first time. But when i reopen the menu it works. The problem is only with the first usage.   • Display archived emails in inbox thread? (Gmail + Thunderbird 3.1)

    A features that I liked in GMail was that when an email arrived that was a reply to an earlier email, Gmail would display all of the previous emails along with the new one in a single thread in my inbox. Importantly, GMail would display emails in the thread even if they had been previously archived. Now I am using Thunderbird to access GMail. Thunderbird 3.1 supports Gmail-style archiving and threads, but it only dispalys messages in threads if they are in the same folder. If I have an email thread with someone and I archive that thread and then a new message arrives, only the new message appears in my inbox. This is really inconvenient. Before I could archive a thread without worrying that I would lose the contents of the thread should a new email arrive. Now, if an email arrives I must go through the All Mail box and find the rest of the thread. Is there any way to set Thunderbird so that it will automatically show the archived emails in the thread along with the new one? Perhaps there is some way to automatically un-archive the rest of the messages? Maybe this is an add-on waiting to be written?
