• How to find unmapped properties in a NHibernate mapped class?

- by haarrrgh
I just had a NHibernate related problem where I forgot to map one property of a class. A very simplified example: public class MyClass { public virtual int ID { get; set; } public virtual string SomeText { get; set; } public virtual int SomeNumber { get; set; } } ...and the mapping file: <hibernate-mapping xmlns="urn:nhibernate-mapping-2.2" assembly="MyAssembly" namespace="MyAssembly.MyNamespace"> <class name="MyClass" table="SomeTable"> <property name="ID" /> <property name="SomeText" /> </class> </hibernate-mapping> In this simple example, you can see the problem at once: there is a property named "SomeNumber" in the class, but not in the mapping file. So NHibernate will not map it and it will always be zero. The real class had a lot more properties, so the problem was not as easy to see and it took me quite some time to figure out why SomeNumber always returned zero even though I was 100% sure that the value in the database was != zero. So, here is my question: Is there some simple way to find this out via NHibernate? Like a compiler warning when a class is mapped, but some of its properties are not. Or some query that I can run that shows me unmapped properties in mapped classes...you get the idea. (Plus, it would be nice if I could exclude some legacy columns that I really don't want mapped.)

• jQuery && Google Chrome

- by Happy
This script works perfectly in all the browsers, except Google Chrome. $(document).ready(function(){ $(".banners-anim img").each(function(){ var hover_width = $(this).width(); var hover_height = $(this).height(); var unhover_width = (hover_width - 30); $(this).width(unhover_width); var unhover_height = $(this).height(); $(this).closest("li").height(unhover_height); var offset = "-" + ((hover_height - unhover_height)/2) + "px"; $(this).closest("span").css({'position':'absolute', 'left':'0', 'top':'25px', 'width':'100%'}); $(this).hover(function(){ $(this).animate({width: hover_width, marginTop: offset}, "fast") },function(){ $(this).animate({width: unhover_width, marginTop: 0}, "fast") }); }); }); Chrome doesn't recognize changed image attributes. When width of the img changes, height also changes. Even not in Chrome.. $(this).width(unhover_width); var unhover_height = $(this).height(); unhover_height gives 0. Full code of this script (html included) - unhover_height Please help to fix this. Thanks.

• How to understand the BODYSTRUCTURE information returned by IMAP servers?

- by Tony
I'm using python's IMAPClient to retrieve email messages from IMAP server. One of the attributes I retrieve is BODYSTRUCTURE. However, I can't find any documentation on how to interpret the return values. Here's the body structure that IMAP server returns 16:12.679978 < FLAGS (NotJunk $NotJunk \Seen) BODYSTRUCTURE ((("TEXT" "PLAIN" ("CHARSET" "us-ascii") NIL NIL "QUOTED-PRINTABLE" 4888 170 NIL NIL NIL)("TEXT" "HTML" ("CHARSET" "us-ascii") NIL NIL "QUOTED-PRINTABLE" 32407 479 NIL NIL NIL) "ALTERNATIVE" ("BOUNDARY" "Apple-Mail=_3AAA7CD7-3B07-406A-83CB-2C7762C3306E") NIL NIL)("APPLICATION" "PKCS7-SIGNATURE" ("NAME" "smime.p7s") NIL NIL "BASE64" 2414 NIL ("ATTACHMENT" ("FILENAME" "smime.p7s")) NIL) "SIGNED" ("BOUNDARY" "Apple-Mail=_DF4FE6BB-F796-46D7-A593-9723F4315DD2" "MICALG" "sha1" "PROTOCOL" "application/pkcs7-signature") NIL NIL)) Here's the same body structure parsed to python type. What each element of the array stand for?

• Use of Java [Interfaces / Abstract classes]

- by Samuel
Hello, Lately i decided to take a look at Java so i am still pretty new to it and also to the approach of OO programming, so i wanted to get some things straight before learning more, (i guess it's never to soon to start with good practices). I am programming a little 2D game for now but i think my question applies to any non trivial project. For the simplicity i'll provide examples from my game. I have different kinds of zombies, but they all have the same attributes (x, y, health, attack etc) so i wrote an interface Zombie which i implement by WalkingZombie, RunningZombie TeleportingZombie etc. Is this the best thing to do? Am i better of with an abstract class? Or with a super class? (I am not planning to partially implement functions - therefor my choice for an interface instead of an abstract class) I have one class describing the main character (Survivor) and since it is pretty big i wanted to write an interface with the different functions, so that i can easily see and share the structure of it. Is it good practice? Or is it simply a waste of space and time? I hope this question will not be rated as subjective because i thought that experienced programmers won't disagree about this kind of topic since the use of interfaces / super classes / abstract classes follows logical rules and is thereby not simply a personal choice. Thank you for your time -Samuel

• Why use shorter VARCHAR(n) fields?

- by chryss
It is frequently advised to choose database field sizes to be as narrow as possible. I am wondering to what degree this applies to SQL Server 2005 VARCHAR columns: Storing 10-letter English words in a VARCHAR(255) field will not take up more storage than in a VARCHAR(10) field. Are there other reasons to restrict the size of VARCHAR fields to stick as closely as possible to the size of the data? I'm thinking of Performance: Is there an advantage to using a smaller n when selecting, filtering and sorting on the data? Memory, including on the application side (C++)? Style/validation: How important do you consider restricting colunm size to force non-sensical data imports to fail (such as 200-character surnames)? Anything else? Background: I help data integrators with the design of data flows into a database-backed system. They have to use an API that restricts their choice of data types. For character data, only VARCHAR(n) with n <= 255 is available; CHAR, NCHAR, NVARCHAR and TEXT are not. We're trying to lay down some "good practices" rules, and the question has come up if there is a real detriment to using VARCHAR(255) even for data where real maximum sizes will never exceed 30 bytes or so. Typical data volumes for one table are 1-10 Mio records with up to 150 attributes. Query performance (SELECT, with frequently extensive WHERE clauses) and application-side retrieval performance are paramount.

• C# xml serializer - serialize derived objects

- by gln
Hi, I want to serialize the following: [Serializable] [DefaultPropertyAttribute("Name")] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfo))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoA))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoB))] public class ItemInfo { private string name; [XmlArray("Items"), XmlArrayItem(typeof(ItemInfo))] private ArrayList arr; private ItemInfo parentItemInfo; } [Serializable] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfo))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoA))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoB))] public class ItemInfoA : ItemInfo { ... } [Serializable] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfo))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoA))] [XmlInclude(typeof(ItemInfoB))] public class ItemInfoB : ItemInfo { ... } The class itemInfo describes a container which can hold other itemInfo objects in the array list, the parentItemInfo describes which is the parent container of the item info. Since ItemInfoA and ItemInfoB derive from ItemInfo they can also be a member of the array list and the parentItemInfo, therefore when trying to serialize these objects (which can hold many objects in hierarchy) it fails with exception can't generate the xml file - innerexception. My question is: What attributes do I need to add the ItemInfo class so it will be serializable? Note: the exception is only when the ItemInfo[A]/[B] are initialized with parentItemInfo or the arrayList. Help please! Thanks!

• Mono Develop 2.4.1 + linq error.

- by Nev_Rahd
I just started to learn Mono Develop Installed Mono Develop 2.4.1 and trial version of Mono Touch. my Code: using System; using System.Xml.Linq; using System.Collections.Generic; namespace RSSReader { public static class RSSRepository { public static IList<FeedItem> GetFeeds(string url) { XDocument rssFeed = XDocument.Load(url); Console.Write(rssFeed.ToString()); var feeds = new List<FeedItem>(); try { var query = from item in rssFeed.Descendants("item") select new FeedItem { Title = item.Element("title").Value, Published = DateTime.Parse(item.Element("pubDate").Value), Url = item.Element("link").Value }; feeds = query.ToList(); } catch (Exception ex){ Console.WriteLine(ex.Message); } return feeds; } } } This is throwing an error: An implementation of 'select' query expression pattern could not be found. Are you missing 'System.linq' using directive or 'System.Core.dll' assembly reference? I got both references to System.Xml.Linq and System.Core What am i missing ?

• Retrieve nested list from XDocument with LINQ

- by twreid
Ok I want my link query to return a list of users. Below is the XML
<User type="WorkerProcessUser"> <default property="UserName" value="Main"/> <default property="Password" value=""/> <default property="Description" value=""/> <default property="Group" value=""/> </User> <User type="AnonymousUser"> <default property="UserName" value="Second"/> <default property="Password" value=""/> <default property="Description" value=""/> <default property="Group" value=""/> </User>
And my current LINQ Query that doesn't work. doc is an XDocument var users = (from iis in doc.Descendants("section") where iis.Attribute("type").Value == "Users" from user in iis.Elements("User") from prop in user.Descendants("default") select new { Type = user.Attribute("type").Value, UserName = prop.Attribute("UserName").Value }); This does not work can anyone tell me what I need to fix? Here is my second attempt after fixing for the wrong property name. However this one does not seem to enumerate the UserName value for me when I try to use it or at least when I try to write it to the console. Also this returns 8 total results I should only have 2 results as I only have 2 users. (from iis in doc.Descendants("section") where iis.Attribute("type").Value == "Users" from user in iis.Elements("User") from prop in user.Descendants("default") select new { Type = user.Attribute("type").Value, UserName = (from name in prop.Attributes("property") where name.Value == "UserName" select name.NextAttribute.Value).ToString() });

• Fluent NHibernate no data being returned

- by czuroski
Hello, I have been successfully using NHibernate, but now I am trying to move to Fluent NHibernate. I have created all of my mapping files and set up my session manager to use a Fluent Configuration. I then run my application and it runs successfully, but no data is returned. There are no errors or any indication that there is a problem, but nothing runs. when using NHibernate, if I don't set my hbm xml files as an embedded resource, this same thing happens. This makes me wonder what I have to set my Map classes to. Right now, they are just set to Compile, and they are compiled into the dll, which I can see by disassembling it. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what may be happening here? Thanks private ISessionFactory GetSessionFactory() { return Fluently.Configure() .Database( IfxOdbcConfiguration .Informix1000 .ConnectionString("Provider=Ifxoledbc.2;Password=mypass;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=myuser;Data Source=mysource") .Dialect<InformixDialect1000>() .ProxyFactoryFactory<ProxyFactoryFactory>() .Driver<OleDbDriver>() .ShowSql() ) .Mappings( m => m.FluentMappings .AddFromAssemblyOf<cmCase>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<attorney>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<creditor>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<party>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<person>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<sardbk>() .AddFromAssemblyOf<schedule>() //x => x.FluentMappings.AddFromAssembly(System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()) //.ExportTo("C:\\mappings") ) .BuildSessionFactory(); }

• Printing an Image embedded into an asp.net page. C#

- by user1683846
I am looking to print using C#, micorsoft visual studio, asp.net. The goal:- I am trying to print all pages in a fax document. Format:- The fax document is received as a single .tiff file with multiple pages. What needs to be done:- I need to iterate each page in the .tiff image and print them all. // This function will iterate all pages, one at a time. // protected void PrintAll_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { // counts number of pages in the fax document.// int number = _FaxPages.Count; // for loop to iterate through each page. // for (int i = 0; i < number; i++) { string _FaxId = Page.Request["FaxId"]; _PageIndex = i; imgFax.ImageUrl = "ShowFax.ashx?n=" + _FaxId + "&f=" + _PageIndex + "&mw=750"; PrintAll.Attributes.Add("onclick", "return printing()"); } } and In my Java script I have: function printing() { window.print(); } Now the issues are: <1 The function only prints one page (the very last page of the tiff file)....and it prints the entire window and not just the embedded .tiff image in the entire web browser window. Any Ideas of how to go about just printing the .tiff embedded image instead of the entire web browser window. <2 Although my for loop iterates through the pages. The print function is only called after the loop has iterated through all the pages and stopped on the final page (say page 6/6). And then it only prints that last page (along with the rest of the contents on the browser window). This is not what I want to happen... I dont want to print all the excess material on the browser window such as buttons, links etc... I just want the embedded .tiff image from the browser window.

• Removing specific tags in a KML file

- by Legion
I have a KML file which is a list of places around the world with coordinates and some other attributes. It looks like this for one place: <Placemark>
<open>0</open> <visibility>1</visibility>
(Spot ID: 275801) show forecast
<styleUrl>#wgStyle001</styleUrl><Point> <coordinates>19.489747,41.277806,0</coordinates> </Point> <LookAt><range>200000</range><longitude>19.489747</longitude><latitude>41.277806</latitude></LookAt> </Placemark> I would like to remove everything except the name of the place. So in this case that would mean I would like to remove everything except
The problem is, this KML file includes more than 1000 of these places. Doing this manually obviously isn't an option, so then how can I remove all tags except for the name tags for all of the items in the list? Can I use some kind of program for that?

• Sending variable data from one of two text boxes to javascript

- by Enyalius
Greetings, all! I am fairly new to JS (my background is in C++, enterprise languages like assembly and COBOL, and some light .NET), so I was wondering if I could get some advice regarding how to send variable information from one of two text boxes to some javascript and then have the JS do some basic checks and such. Here's the pseudocode for what I am trying to do: <form = webForm>
_____________ textboxPeople| searchIcon //a text box to search an online phonebook at my company. ------------- //It has a little "magnifying glass" icon to search //(onClick), but I would also like them to be able to //search by hitting the "enter" key on their keyboards.

_____________ texboxIntranet| searchIcon //Same as above search textbox, but this one is used if ------------- //the user wishes to search my corporate intranet site. So ends the front-facing basic form that I would like to use. Now, onClick or onEnter, I would like the form to pass the contents of the text box used as well as an identifier such as "People" or "Intranet," depending on which box is used, to some basic JS on the back end: begin JavaScript: if(identifier = 'People') fire peopleSearch(); else if(identifier = 'Intranet') fire intranetSearch(); function peopleSearch() { http://phonebook.corporate.com/query=submittedValue //This will take the person //that the user submitted in the form and //place it at the end of a URL, after which //it will open said complete URL in the //same window. } function intranetSearch() { http://intranet.corporate.com/query=submittedValue //This will function in the //same way as the people search function. } end JavaScript Any thoughts/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance!

• Allowing Xform controls for optional XML elements

- by Cam
Hi, In designing an XForm interface to an XML database (using eXist and XSLTForms), I'd like to include an input control for an optional element. The XML data records already exist and while some contain the optional element, others don't. To update a record, I'm using the existing XML record as the model instance. The problem is that the form control is not displayed when the optional element is not present, which is logical, but presents a problem when a user wants to add data to the optional element. To be more explicit, here's an example data record, data.xml: content with RNC schema: start = element a { element b { text }, element notes { text }? } XForms model: <xf:model> <xf:instance xmlns="" src="data.xml"/> <xf:submission id="save" method="post" action="update.xq" /> </xf:model> And control: <xf:input ref="/a/notes"> <xf:label>Notes (optional): </xf:label> </xf:input> The problem is that the 'Notes' input control is simply not displayed. An obvious solution is to add a trigger button to allow the user to insert the element if needed, but it is preferable to just have the input control appear, and be empty. My question is: is there some subtle combination of lesser-know attributes/binds/multiple instances/xpath expressions that will cause the control to always be displayed? Thanks

• Generic Singleton Fasade design pattern

Hi I try write singleton fasede pattern with generics. I have one problem, how can I call method from generic variable. Something like this: T1 t1 = new T1(); //call method from t1 t1.Method(); In method SingletonFasadeMethod I have compile error: Error 1 'T1' does not contain a definition for 'Method' and no extension method 'Method' accepting a first argument of type 'T1' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) Any advace? Thank, I am beginner in C#. • What happens when you create an instance of an object containing no state in C#?

- by liquorice
I am I think ok at algorithmic programming, if that is the right term? I used to play with turbo pascal and 8086 assembly language back in the 1980s as a hobby. But only very small projects and I haven't really done any programming in the 20ish years since then. So I am struggling for understanding like a drowning swimmer. So maybe this is a very niave question or I'm just making no sense at all, but say I have an object kind of like this: class Something : IDoer { void Do(ISomethingElse x) { x.DoWhatEverYouWant(42); } } And then I do var Thing1 = new Something(); var Thing2 = new Something(); Thing1.Do(blah); Thing2.Do(blah); does Thing1 = Thing2? does "new Something()" create anything? Or is it not much different different from having a static class, except I can pass it around and swap it out etc. Is the "Do" procedure in the same location in memory for both the Thing1(blah) and Thing2(blah) objects? I mean when executing it, does it mean there are two Something.Do procedures or just one?

• How do I call C++/CLI (.NET) DLLs from standard, unmanaged non-.NET applications?

- by tronjohnson
In the unmanaged world, I was able to write a __declspec(dllexport) or, alternatively, use a .DEF file to expose a function to be able to call a DLL. (Because of name mangling in C++ for the __stdcall, I put aliases into the .DEF file so certain applications could re-use certain exported DLL functions.) Now, I am interested in being able to expose a single entry-point function from a .NET assembly, in unmanaged-fashion, but have it enter into .NET-style functions within the DLL. Is this possible, in a simple and straight-forward fashion? What I have is a third-party program that I have extended through DLLs (plugins) that implement some complex mathematics. However, the third-party program has no means for me to visualize the calculations. I want to somehow take these pre-written math functions, compile them into a separate DLL (but using C++/CLI in .NET), but then add hooks to the functions so I can render what's going on under the hood in a .NET user control. I'm not sure how to blend the .NET stuff with the unmanaged stuff, or what to Google to accomplish this task. Specific suggestions with regard to the managed/unmanaged bridge, or alternative methods to accomplish the rendering in the manner I have described would be helpful. Thank you.

• How to override jquery's show() and hide() functions

- by Max Williams
hi all Short version of question: see title Long version of question: I've used jquery's show() and hide() functions extensively in my code and just encountered a bit of a problem: they work by changing the display attribute of the element to 'block' or 'none' respectively, so that if you have somethin that has display: inline and then hide and show it, you've changed its display to block, which screws up the layout in a couple of cases. In my code, whenever i want something to be hidden initially i give it a class 'hidden'. This class is simply {display: none}. I'd like the change show and hide to remove or add this class, instead of directly changing the display attribute, so that if you add the hidden class and then remove it again (ie hide and show something) then it's back to exactly how it was to start off with (since adding a class overrides the attributes rather than directly changing them). Something like this (this is a little pseucodey as i don't know how to set the function up properly - let's assume that 'this' is the object that show/hide was called on) function show(){ this.removeClass("hidden"); } function hide(){ this.addClass("hidden"); } how and where would i go about overriding the jquery methods? (I'm not a javascript expert) thanks - max

• Multiple Foreign keys to a single table and single key pointing to more than one table

- by user1216775
I need some suggestions from the database design experts here. I have around six foreign keys into a single table (defect) which all point to primary key in user table. It is like: defect (.....,assigned_to,created_by,updated_by,closed_by...) If I want to get information about the defect I can make six joins. Do we have any better way to do it? Another one is I have a states table which can store one of the user-defined set of values. I have defect table and task table and I want both of these tables to share the common state table (New, In Progress etc.). So I created: task (.....,state_id,type_id,.....) defect(.....,state_id,type_id,...) state(state_id,state_name,...) importance(imp_id,imp_name,...) There are many such common attributes along with state like importance(normal, urgent etc), priority etc. And for all of them I want to use same table. I am keeping one flag in each of the tables to differentiate task and defect. What is the best solution in such a case? If somebody is using this application in health domain, they would like to assign different types, states, importances for their defect or tasks. Moreover when a user selects any project I want to display all the types,states etc under configuration parameters section.

• Two references to the same domain/entity model

- by Sbossb
Problem I want to save the attributes of a model that have changed when a user edits them. Here's what I want to do ... Retrieve edited view model Get domain model and map back updated value Call the update method on repository Get the "old" domain model and compare values of the fields Store the changed values (in JSON) into a table However I am having trouble with step number 4. It seems that the Entity Framework doesn't want to hit the database again to get the model with the old values. It just returns the same entity I have. Attempted Solutions I have tried using the Find() and the SingleOrDefault() methods, but they just return the model I currently have. Example Code private string ArchiveChanges(T updatedEntity) { //Here is the problem! //oldEntity is the same as updatedEntity T oldEntity = DbSet.SingleOrDefault(x => x.ID == updatedEntity.ID); Dictionary<string, object> changed = new Dictionary<string, object>(); foreach (var propertyInfo in typeof(T).GetProperties()) { var property = typeof(T).GetProperty(propertyInfo.Name); //Get the old value and the new value from the models var newValue = property.GetValue(updatedEntity, null); var oldValue = property.GetValue(oldEntity, null); //Check to see if the values are equal if (!object.Equals(newValue, oldValue)) { //Values have changed ... log it changed.Add(propertyInfo.Name, newValue); } } var ser = new System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer(); return ser.Serialize(changed); } public override void Update(T entityToUpdate) { //Do something with this string json = ArchiveChanges(entityToUpdate); entityToUpdate.AuditInfo.Updated = DateTime.Now; entityToUpdate.AuditInfo.UpdatedBy = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name; base.Update(entityToUpdate); }

• Disable Products in different Magento Store Views

- by Robert
I have a Magento Multi-Store installation (not multi-site) and some products are available in more than one store. However, these products that are available in, let's say storeA and storeB, have related products, BUT, the related products are not available in both stores. The problem is this, Product1, which has Product2, Product3, and Product4 as related products, appears in storeA. No Problem. Product1 is also available in storeB, but NOT Product2-3-4. However, those products, though not shown in the general catalog of storeB, are visible as related products to Product1 in storeB. If I use the drop down to manage products in storeB, and I remove the related products in Product1, it removes the related products from Product1 in storeA, where they should be available. I cannot change the status attribute to storeview in Manage Attributes, because the only choices are Global or Website, not Store View. I can change the skin to show UPSELL products instead, and set up different UPSELL products, but that limits my stores to only two. Any ideas?

• WinForms Dynamic Label

- by tolga
I am creating dynamic labels and letting users change attributes of the labes like backcolor and so by sending unicode. However I don't know how to check if the label exists therefore I can't manipulate the dynamicly created label. below is my code: if ((InputBox.Text.StartsWith("p")) && (InputBox.Text.EndsWith("}")))// only process if the message starts with p and ends with } { string Message = InputBox.Text; InputBox.Text = "";// Clear the box when done. // Butt1 message line if (Message.StartsWith("plabelt1")) { if (Message.StartsWith("plabelt1_BackColor")) { Message = Message.Substring(19); //labelt1.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.FromName(Message.Replace("}", "")); } } private void ImageBox_DragDrop(object sender, DragEventArgs e) { //Graphics g = ImageBox.CreateGraphics(); //g.DrawImage((Image)e.Data.GetData(DataFormats.Bitmap), //new Point(e.X - this.Left, e.Y - this.Top - 150)); Point p2 = PointToClient(Cursor.Position); Label buttlbl_ = new Label(); labelCount++; buttlbl_.Name = "labelt" + labelCount.ToString(); buttlbl_.Location = new Point(p2.X, p2.Y); buttlbl_.Size = new System.Drawing.Size(37, 37); buttlbl_.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.DarkGray; this.Controls.Add(buttlbl_); buttlbl_.BringToFront(); ImageBox.Invalidate(); } } Any suggestions?

• Why does my program not react to any arguments?

- by Electric Coffee
I have a simple test program in C++ that prints out attributes of a circle #include <iostream> #include <stdlib.h> #include "hidden_functions.h" // contains the Circle class using namespace std; void print_circle_attributes(float r) { Circle* c = new Circle(r); cout << "radius: " << c->get_radius() << endl; cout << "diameter: " << c->get_diameter() << endl; cout << "area: " << c->get_area() << endl; cout << "circumference: " << c->get_circumference() << endl; cout << endl; delete c; } int main(int argc, const char* argv[]) { float input = atof(argv[0]); print_circle_attributes(input); return 0; } when I run my program with the parameter 2.4 it outputs: radius: 0.0 diameter: 0.0 area: 0.0 circumference: 0.0 I've previously tested the program without the parameter, but simply using static values, and it ran just fine; so I know there's nothing wrong with the class I made... So what did I do wrong here? Note: the header is called hidden_functions.h because it served to test out how it would work if I had functions not declared in the header

• SQL query select from table and group on other column...

- by scaryjones
I'm phrasing the question title poorly as I'm not sure what to call what I'm trying to do but it really should be simple. I've a link / join table with two ID columns. I want to run a check before saving new rows to the table. The user can save attributes through a webpage but I need to check that the same combination doesn't exist before saving it. With one record it's easy as obviously you just check if that attributeId is already in the table, if it is don't allow them to save it again. However, if the user chooses a combination of that attribute and another one then they should be allowed to save it. Here's an image of what I mean: So if a user now tried to save an attribute with ID of 1 it will stop them, but I need it to also stop them if they tried ID's of 1, 10 so long as both 1 and 10 had the same productAttributeId. I'm confusing this in my explanation but I'm hoping the image will clarify what I need to do. This should be simple so I presume I'm missing something.
