  • Problem creating PostGIS template database

    I am trying to build a template geographic database for PostGIS (1.5) on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) for my GeoDjango application. I am following: http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/ref/contrib/gis/install/#creating-a-spatial-database-template-for-postgis I've managed to come up to the point where the provided postgis.sql should be run (i.e. psql -d template_postgis -f $POSTGIS_SQL_PATH/postgis.sql) At that point I am getting an error at the first SQL statement that is tried to be run. When I try that on the psql prompt the result is as follows: template_postgis=# CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION st_spheroid_in(cstring) RETURNS spheroid AS '/usr/local/pgsql/lib/postgis-1.5','ellipsoid_in' LANGUAGE 'C' IMMUTABLE STRICT; NOTICE: type "spheroid" is not yet defined DETAIL: Creating a shell type definition.   • Serializing C# objects to DB

    I'm using a DB table with various different entities. This means that I can't have an arbitrary number of fields in it to save all kinds of different entities. I want instead save just the most important fields (dates, reference IDs - kind of foreign key to various other tables, most important text fields etc.) and an additional text field where I'd like to store more complete object data. the most obvious solution would be to use XML strings and store those. The second most obvious choice would be JSON, that usually shorter and probably also faster to serialize/deserialize... And is probably also faster. But is it really? My objects also wouldn't need to be strictly serializable, because JsonSerializer is usually able to serialize anything. Even anonymous objects, that may as well be used here. What would be the most optimal solution to solve this problem?

    I'm having a little trouble with my MySQL- Connection- Pooling. This is the case: Different jobs are scheduled via Quartz. All jobs connect to different databases which works fine the whole day while the nightly scheduled jobs fail with a CommunicationsException... Quartz-Jobs: Job1 runs 0 0 6,10,14,18 * * ? Job2 runs 0 30 10,18 * * ? Job3 runs 0 0 5 * * ? As you can see the last job runs at 18 taking about 1 hour to run. The first job at 5am is the one that fails. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem. Can someone tell me where is the mistake? In advance : the entity reaches the point of update with all the properties correctly set. EF just fails to update the FK in the Database (no exception though)

    Hi I am using JsTree and got some of it working with my database. Such as deleting a node, renaming a node, etc. I am having problems with saving the ROOT folders order back to the database. When I move the root folders, it doesnt save order. When I move the sub folders around, it saves order fine. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?   • When connecting SAP Business One to SQL Server 2005, what is the

    we have SAP Business One - Fourth Shift Edition running here at a small manufacturing company. The consulting company that has come in to do the installation/implementation uses the "sa" id/pass to initially connect to the database to get the list of companies. From then on, I have to assume that its the sa id/pass that is being used to connect the client software to the database. Is this appropriate? I dont know where this data is being stored... as an ODBC connection? directly in the registry somewhere? Is it secure? Would it be better to set the users network ID in the database security and then use the "trusted connection" setting instead? Or do most people create a separate login in the database for each user and use that in the client settings? seems like the easiest way would be to add the users network login to the sql server security so they can use the "trusted connection"... but then wouldn't that allow ANY software to connect to the database from that machine? So anyways: what are the best-practices for setting this up?

What does the free space of 31GB mean? If the maximum RAM can be allocated to innodb_buffer_pool_size is 1GB, is it possible to specify which tables to loaded into memory while keep others always read from disk? Thanks in advance.

    I have a proxy object generated by Visual Studio (client side) named ServerClient. I am attempting to set ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName/Password before opening up a new connection using this code: InstanceContext context = new InstanceContext(this); m_client = new ServerClient(context); m_client.ClientCredentials.UserName.UserName = "Sample"; As soon as the code hits the UserName line it fails with an "Object is read-only" error. I know this can happen if the connection is already open or faulted, but at this point I haven't called context.Open() yet. I have configured the Bindings (which uses netTcpBinding) to use Message as it's security mode, and MessageClientCredentialType is set to UserName. Any ideas?

    Hi All, Figure there is a simple solution to this problem but I have been unable to find it. I have databinding in an ASP.Net application to a GridView. This gridview is bound to an ObjectDataSource as per standard usage. The problem I have is that one of my bound fields uses the property DataFormatString="{0:C}" and due to the currency format being displayed when an update is attempted and the object recreated I get a error as such "$13.00 is not a valid value for Decimal." Clearly this is a result of the column using a FormatString and then attempting to bind it back to a decimal property I have in my object called UnitPrice. I am assuming there is some markup I can set that can specify how the value is translated back? Thanks in advance for any help.

Right now i'm using recursive function to find out the required iframe object in JavaScript. It works fine, The issue is when we create large dynamic pages which may contains up to 1000 iframes in it. In this case my recursive function takes too much time to find the required iframe object.   • PHP Error handling in WordPress plugin

    I am a newbie to both PHP and Wordpress (but do ok in C#), and am struggling to understand the error handling in a custom plugin I am attempting to write. The basics of the plugin is to query an exsiting MSSQL database (note its not the standard MYSQL db...) and return the rows back to the screen. This was working well, but the hosting provider has taken my database offline, which led me to the error handling problem (which I thought was ok). The following code is failing to connect to the database (as expected), but puts an error onto the screen and stops the page processing. It does not even output the 'or die' error text.     Are database triggers a bad idea? In my experience they are evil, because they can result in surprising side effects, and are difficult to debug (especially when one trigger fires another). Often developers do not even think of looking if there is a trigger. On the other hand, it seems like if you have logic that must occur evertime a new FOO is created in the database then the most foolproof place to put it is an insert trigger on the FOO table. The only time we're using triggers is for really simple things like setting the ModifiedDate.
