  • Text formatting within textarea

    - by musoNic80
Variations on my problem have been discussed elsewhere, so I hope I'm not duplicating! I'm implementing a simple Private Messaging System as part of a web app. I've got an annoying problem though when dynamically inserting text into a textarea box in order to make a reply. Getting the content and displaying it is fine, but I can't work out how to format it correctly. Obviously, I can't use html tags, but plain text formatting like line breaks and carriage returns seem to be ignored too. This happens when an existing message is being displayed either as part of a reply or as a thread in a new message. How do I check what formatting is being saved in my db? Or indeed what formatting is being sent back from my db?!

  • TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 missing repository browser in Branch/Tag "To URL" dialog?

    - by Ash
It seems that in TortoiseSVN 1.6.8 (on Windows), when you click the "To URL..." button in the Branch/Tag dialog, it now pops up a generic "browse for folders" dialog. It used to pop up a Repository Browser. Displaying a regular folder browser isn't much use, since you can't navigate to any of the tags/branches via the file system. Does anyone know if this is a regression or a deliberate change? Any possible workarounds (other than reverting to 1.6.7, which works fine)? Notes: I am running a repository on the local file system, which may yield different results to one going across a network. I'm definitely using an FSFS repository, so changes to BDB access via file:/// shouldn't apply. The only reference I could find to this problem is here: http://groups.google.com/group/tortoisesvn/browse_thread/thread/f3406d1bad89f1d9.

  • Outlook MAPI session exception when outlook interface is closed

    - by michele
I'm developing a email sender that retrieve data from a database, build up a MailItem with the Outlook Interop and send it. My email sender is running by a windows service that is notified everytime there's some data to send. I'm logging on the MAPI session of Outlook without problem and everything seems to work. But... when someone open Outlook interface and then close, my service crash at the first attempt i call a SendAndReceive method, with an exception that report that the session is assigned to another thread. I'm googling around for hours and i'm listening to the application_quit event, raised by the interface closing, trying to logoff and logon again to the application...but i'm still falling in the same error. Where am i wrong?Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

  • Exceptions silently caught by Windows, how to handle manually?

    - by Mark Ingram
We're having problems with Windows silently eating exceptions and allowing the application to continue running, when the exception is thrown inside the message pump. For example, we created a test MFC MDI application, and overrode OnDraw: void CTestView::OnDraw(CDC* /*pDC*/) { *(int*)0 = 0; // Crash CTestDoc* pDoc = GetDocument(); ASSERT_VALID(pDoc); if (!pDoc) return; // TODO: add draw code for native data here } You would expect a nasty error message when running the application, but you actually get nothing at all. The program appears to be running perfectly well, but if you check the output window you will see: First-chance exception at 0x13929384 in Test.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation writing location 0x00000000. First-chance exception at 0x77c6ee42 in Test.exe: 0xC0150010: The activation context being deactivated is not active for the current thread of execution. I know why I'm receiving the application context exception, but why is it being handled silently? It means our applications could be suffering serious problems when in use, but we'll never know about it, because our users will never report any problems.

  • Problem with jQuery and ASP.Net MVC

    - by robert_d
    I have a problem with jQuery, here is how my web app works Search web page which contains a form and jQuery script posts data to Search() action in Home controller after user clicks button1 button. Search.aspx: <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<GLSChecker.Models.WebGLSQuery>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> Title </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Search</h2> <% Html.EnableClientValidation(); %> <% using (Html.BeginForm()) {%> <fieldset> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Url) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Url, new { size = "50" } ) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Url) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.Location) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Location, new { size = "50" } ) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Location) %> </div> <div class="editor-label"> <%: Html.LabelFor(model => model.KeywordLines) %> </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.KeywordLines, 10, 60, null)%> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.KeywordLines)%> </div> <p> <input id ="button1" type="submit" value="Search" /> </p> </fieldset> <% } %> <script src="../../Scripts/jquery-1.4.1.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery("#button1").click(function (e) { window.setInterval(refreshResult, 5000); }); function refreshResult() { jQuery("#divResult").load("/Home/Refresh"); } </script> <div id="divResult"> </div> </asp:Content> [HttpPost] public ActionResult Search(WebGLSQuery queryToCreate) { if (!ModelState.IsValid) return View("Search"); queryToCreate.Remote_Address = HttpContext.Request.ServerVariables["REMOTE_ADDR"]; Session["Result"] = null; SearchKeywordLines(queryToCreate); Thread.Sleep(15000); return View("Search"); }//Search() After button1 button is clicked the above script from Search web page runs Search() action in controller runs for longer period of time. I simulate this in testing by putting Thread.Sleep(15000); in Search()action. 5 sec. after Submit button was pressed, the above jQuery script calls Refresh() action in Home controller. public ActionResult Refresh() { ViewData["Result"] = DateTime.Now; return PartialView(); } Refresh() renders this partial <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl" % <%= ViewData["Result"] % The problem is that in Internet Explorer 8 there is only one request to /Home/Refresh; in Firefox 3.6.3 all requests to /Home/Refresh are made but nothing is displayed on the web page. I would be grateful for helpful suggestions.

  • Spinlocks, How Much Useful Are They?

    - by unknown
How often do you find yourself actually using spinlocks in your code? How common is it to come across a situation where using a busy loop actually outperforms the usage of locks? Personally, when I write some sort of code that requires thread safety, I tend to benchmark it with different synchronization primitives, and as far as it goes, it seems like using locks gives better performance than using spinlocks. No matter for how little time I actually hold the lock, the amount of contention I receive when using spinlocks is far greater than the amount I get from using locks (of course, I run my tests on a multiprocessor machine). I realize that it's more likely to come across a spinlock in "low-level" code, but I'm interested to know whether you find it useful in even a more high-level kind of programming?

  • Automation of testing using JUnit

    - by Vijay Selvaraj
Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation. Your suggestion and directions is highly appreciated. Thanks, -Vijay

  • Problems running Java SWT application. Is this something to do with 64 vs 32-bit libraries?

    - by ?????
I'm getting started with SWT Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no swt-cocoa-3557 or swt-cocoa in swt.library.path, java.library.path or the jar file at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.Library.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.C.<clinit>(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.internal.cocoa.NSThread.isMainThread(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.graphics.Device.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.<init>(Unknown Source) at org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Display.getDefault(Unknown Source) at com.astrobetty.getotagdesktop.MainUIWindow.main(MainUIWindow.java:110) I've carefully followed the directions here http://www.eclipse.org/swt/eclipse.php I can see libswt-awt-cocoa-3557.jnilib, libswt-cocoa-3557.jnilib, libswt-pi-cocoa-3557.jnilib clearly listed under "Referenced Libraries" in my Eclipse package explorer. Presumably, that should make them available on the classpath when I select the java module that contains "main" and do a "run as" application. What's the problem? I suspect it may be related to 64-bit vs 32-bit VMs....

  • Tomcat IIS 7 Integration gives 503 errors on all requests.

    - by Yvan JANSSENS
Hi, After many attempts to install Tomcat on IIS 7, I finally managed to get it working. At least I think so :-S. I finally got the 500 errors away, by setting the correct permissions. The only thing that doesn't work is ... serving stuff: neither regular stuff (like ASP, HTML files, or directory browsing) or Tomcat things work. • The accossoryView of a UITableViewCell disappears after the visible view is changed

    - by Luca
Hi! I'm experiencing this strange situation. I have a UITableView where, when the user selects a cell, a long (network) process begins. So, I performed this in a background thread and I placed (in the didSelectRowAtIndexPath) a UIActivityIndicatorView as the accessory view. This is what I wrote: UITableViewCell* cell = [self.tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; UIActivityIndicatorView* activityView = [[UIActivityIndicatorView alloc] initWithActivityIndicatorStyle:UIActivityIndicatorViewStyleWhite]; cell.accessoryView = activityView; [activityView startAnimating]; [activityView release]; everything seems to work correctly, except that, if during a loading process (when the indicator is animated), I switch the view using a UITabBar, when I go back to the UITableView, the UIActivityIndicatorView that should still be there has disappeared. Any idea of what I did wrong? Thanks!

  • Calling Status Bar notification from method from other class.

    - by Jez Fischer
Firstly, I am new to both android and Java. I have two classes, my main.class and Note.class. I am calling the notification method from my Note.class in my main.class when i press a button. The issue is with this line from the Note.class : PendingIntent contentIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0); notification.setLatestEventInfo(context, contentTitle, contentText, contentIntent); When the method is called it force closes. I believe the problem to be with the "this" in PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, notificationIntent, 0);, but I am unsure what to change it to. The notification code works fine if it's in the main class. I would be very grateful for any guidance. At the beginning of a section of C# code that could take several seconds to complete, I'd like to display a non modal form with a label that just says, "Please wait..." WaitForm myWaitForm = null; try { // if conditions suggest process will take awhile myWaitForm = new WaitForm(); myWaitForm.Show(); // do stuff } finally { if (myWaitForm != null) { myWaitForm.Hide(); myWaitForm.Dispose(); myWaitForm = null; } } The problem: the WaitForm doesn't completely display before the rest of the code ties up the thread. So I only see the frame of the form. In Delphi (my old stomping ground) I would call Application.ProcessMessages after the Show() Is there an equivalent in C#? Is there a canned "status" form that I can use in situations like this? Is there a better way to approach this? Thanks in advance. David Jennings

  • C# Sequence Diagramm Reverse Engineering Tool?

    - by Wayne
It's essential for me to find a tool that will reverse engineer sequence diagrams by integrating with the debugger. I suppose using the profiler could work also but less desirable. It's a key requirement that the tool in question will record all threads of execution since the app, TickZoom, is heavily parallelized. We just evaluated a most awesome tool from Sparx called Enterprise Architect which integrates with the debugger. It allows you to set a break point, start recording method traces from that break point. It's a lovely design and GUI. Hope it works for you but it only records a single thread of execution so that makes it unusable for us. I will put in a feature request to Sparx. But hope to find a similar tool that does this now since that's the only features we need--not all the other stuff that Sparx also does rather well. Sincerely, Wayne

  • Non-reentrant C# timer

    - by Oak
I'm trying to invoke a method f() every t time, but if the previous invocation of f() has not finished yet, wait until it's finished. I've read a bit about the available timers (this is a useful link) but couldn't find any good way of doing what I want, save for manually writing it all. Any help about how to achieve this will be appreciated, though I fear I might not be able to find a simple solution using timers. To clarify, if x is one second, and f() runs the arbitrary durations I've written below, then: Step Operation Time taken 1 wait 1s 2 f() 0.6s 3 wait 0.4s (because f already took 0.6 seconds) 4 f() 10s 5 wait 0s (we're late) 6 f() 0.3s 7 wait 0.7s (we can disregard the debt from step 4) Notice that the nature of this timer is that f() will not need to be safe regarding re-entrance, and a thread pool of size 1 is enough here.

  • Apache on linux and i18n : spawning processes or threads ?

    - by Jerome WAGNER
Hello, I would like to understand better exactly what is going on when Apache on linux receive an HTTP request in a process pre-fork model. Let's say we have 20 Apache child processes waiting. When I receive an HTTP request, is it true to say that 1 child process will be chosen to handle the request and that this process won't handle another request from another user until the first one is finished ? I am asking the question because of a PHP limitation that states : The locale information is maintained per process, not per thread. If you are running PHP on a multithreaded server API like IIS or Apache on Windows, you may experience sudden changes in locale settings while a script is running, though the script itself never called setlocale(). This happens due to other scripts running in different threads of the same process at the same time, changing the process-wide locale using setlocale(). Thanks Jerome Wagner

  • NSTask or NSThread?

    - by Ben Packard
I have some code that is attached to an NSTimer. Around 5 times every second, it interacts with another application (by emulating keystrokes) and when appropriate spits out an NSNotification, that is handled by another piece of code. While the timer code is running, the UI is unresponsive, so I can't include a 'stop' button that halts the timer. How should I handle this? A separate process (NSTask right?) or thread? Remember that at unpredictable times, the timer code will need to send some info back for processing. Thanks.

  • Comet implementation for ASP.NET?

    - by Hitchhiker
I've been looking at ways to implement gmail-like messaging inside a browser, and arrived at the Comet concept. However, I haven't been able to find a good .NET implementation that allows me to do this within IIS (our application is written in ASP.NET 2.0). The solutions I found (or could think of, for that matter) require leaving a running thread per user - so that it could return a response to him once he gets a message. This doesn't scale at all, of course. So my question is - do you know of an ASP.NET implementation for Comet that works in a different way? Is that even possible with IIS?

I'm getting NullPointerException:s when using sstable2json in Cassandra 0.6.0-beta3: $ bin/sstable2json .../cassandra/data/system/LocationInfo-1-Data.db Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at java.util.Arrays$ArrayList.<init>(Arrays.java:3357) at java.util.Arrays.asList(Arrays.java:3343) at org.apache.cassandra.tools.SSTableExport.export(SSTableExport.java:255) at org.apache.cassandra.tools.SSTableExport.export(SSTableExport.java:299) at org.apache.cassandra.tools.SSTableExport.export(SSTableExport.java:323) at org.apache.cassandra.tools.SSTableExport.main(SSTableExport.java:367) I've had no problems with sstable2json when using Cassandra 0.5. Is sstable2json broken in Cassandra 0.6.0-beta3 or am I doing something wrong?

  • log4j.xml configuration with <rollingPolicy> and <triggeringPolicy>

    - by Mike Smith
I try to configure log4j.xml in such a way that file will be rolled upon file size, and the rolled file's name will be i.e: "C:/temp/test/test_log4j-%d{yyyy-MM-dd-HH_mm_ss}.log" I followed this discussion: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/NUYyjJipzkDOS3reRiMz Finally it worked for me only when I add: try { Thread.sleep(1); } catch (InterruptedException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } to the method: public boolean isTriggeringEvent(Appender appender, LoggingEvent event, String filename, long fileLength) which make it works. The question is if there is a better way to make it work? since this method call many times and slow my program. • JMS Session pooling for large numbers of Topic subscribers

    - by matthewKizoom
I'm writing an app that will create lots of JMS topic subscribers. What is best practise regarding reusing sessions? A session per subscriber? A pool of sessions? With a session per subscriber the thread count seems unreasonable. Is this a job for something like a ServerSessionPool? What I've seen so far seems to suggest that ServerSessionPool is more geared towards one receiver consuming messages concurrently rather than lots of receivers. I'm currently working with HornetQ 2.0.0GA embedded in JBoss 4.3.0CP6.

  • When to use AsyncOperation and AsyncOperationManager

    - by Sir Psycho
Hi, I've spent many many hours tonight reading up on implementing the event-based asynchronous pattern Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any articles at all on witting a class that only supports one Async invocation. Every example I've seen assumes that a method call will be called more than once and thus, should have a userState object passed into the MethodNameAsync You'll see that MS makes mention of this in the third bullet point on this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228974(VS.80).aspx under the "Simultaneously Executing Operations" heading. But I'm confused. Should I be using AsyncOperation and AsyncOperationManager classes to have asynchronous functionality where a method can only be called by one thread at a time? A link would also be nice :) Thanks
