  I have recently been learning the in's and out's of the Concurrency and Coordination Runtime (CCR). Finding good learning resources for this relatively new technology has been quite difficult. (A quick google search brings up "Creedence Clearwater Revival" as the top result!) Some of the resources I have found: Free e-book chapter from WROX on the Robotics Developer Studio Good Article/post on InfoQ Robotic's Member blog Very active MSDN CCR Forum - Got plenty of help from here! Great MSDN Magazine by Jeffrey Richter Official CCR User Guide - Didn't find this very helpful Great blogging series on CCR iodyner CCR Related Blog - Update: Moved to here Eight or so Videos on Channel9.msdn.com CCR Patterns page on MS Robotics Studio - I haven't read this yet 4 x CCR Questions on Stackoverflow - Most of the questions have been Mine! I really hope that Microsoft will publish more material, so far it has been too Robotics specific. I believe that MS needs to acknowledge that most people are using the CCR in issolation from the DSS and Robotics Studio. • Rails emails not sending in staging environment

  In a Rails application I set up a new staging environment with the following parameters in its environments/ file: config.action_mailer.perform_deliveries = true config.action_mailer.raise_delivery_errors = true config.action_mailer.delivery_method = :smtp However, when the system generates an email, it gets printed to the staging.log file instead of being sent. My SMTP settings work fine in other environments. What configuration am I missing to get the emails to actually send? Edit: Yes, the staging box is set up with valid configuration for an SMTP server it has access to. It seems like the problem isn't with the SMTP settings (if it was, wouldn't I get errors in the logs?), but with the Rails configuration. The application is still redirecting emails to the log file (saying "Sent mail: ...") as opposed to actually going through SMTP. Edit #2: It looks like the emails actually have been sending correctly, they just happen to print to the log as well. I'm trying to use the sanitize_email gem to redirect the mail to another address, and that doesn't seem to be working, which is why I thought the emails weren't going out. So I think that solves my problem, although I'm still curious what in ActionMailer's settings controls whether emails are sent, logged to the log file, or both. Edit #3: The problem with sanitize_email boiled down to me needing to add the new staging environment to ActionMailer::Base.local_environments. I'll keep this question open to see if anyone can answer my last question (what determines whether ActionMailer's emails get sent out, logged to the log file, or both?)

• Radix Sort in Python [on hold]

  I could use some help. How would you write a program in python that implements a radix sort? Here is some info: A radix sort for base 10 integers is a based on sorting punch cards, but it turns out the sort is very ecient. The sort utilizes a main bin and 10 digit bins. Each bin acts like a queue and maintains its values in the order they arrive. The algorithm begins by placing each number in the main bin. Then it considers the ones digit for each value. The rst value is removed and placed in the digit bin corresponding to the ones digit. For example, 534 is placed in digit bin 4 and 662 is placed in the digit bin 2. Once all the values in the main bin are placed in the corresponding digit bin for ones, the values are collected from bin 0 to bin 9 (in that order) and placed back in the main bin. The process continues with the tens digit, the hundreds, and so on. After the last digit is processed, the main bin contains the values in order. Use randint, found in random, to create random integers from 1 to 100000. Use a list comphrension to create a list of varying sizes (10, 100, 1000, 10000, etc.). To use indexing to access the digits rst convert the integer to a string. For this sort to work, all numbers must have the same number of digits. To zero pad integers with leading zeros, use the string method str.zfill(). Once main bin is sorted, convert the strings back to integers. I'm not sure how to start this, Any help is appreciated.   Assume that I have the ItemSource bound and i am getting the data. Now what I want is this. The ItemSource will contain Data that tells where each button should be. Is their a good solution for this? Am I going about this the wrong way? The reason I am doing it like this is because their can be buttons added dynamically, removed, some buttons will need to move around etc..

• Xcode 5 - remove storyboard and start app with a .xib

  I've tried to follow the instructions on this Question. But I must not be doing something correctly because I am still getting a SIGABRT before I even get into the ViewController methods. Here are the steps: Copied all items on the view in the story board and pasted into the new xib view. Copied all contents of .h and .m view controller files into the new ones for the xib. Changed the Main nib file base name to the new xib name in the info.plist file. Tried to change the owner but I don't know if I'm doing that correctly. Edited the appdelegate didFinishLaunchingWithOptions file as follows: - (BOOL)application:(UIApplication *)application didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:(NSDictionary *)launchOptions { self.window = [[UIWindow alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] bounds]] ; // Override point for customization after application launch. TestViewController *test = [[TestViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"TestViewController" bundle:nil]; UINavigationController *nav = [[UINavigationController alloc] initWithRootViewController:test]; self.window.rootViewController = nav; [self.window makeKeyAndVisible]; return YES; } I even tried to start with an empty project like one of the last posts suggested and still get a SIGABRT when I try to run. Has Apple made it impossible to remove the storyboard? I'm creating an SDK. I don't want a storyboard. But I do need one xib that is rotatable. Help?

• Preserving SCRIPT tags (and more) in CKEditor

  Update: I'm thinking the solution to this problem is in CKEDITOR.config.protectedSource(), but my regular-expression experience is proving to be too juvenile to handle this issue. How would I go about exempting all tags that contain the 'preserved' class from being touched by CKEditor? Is it possible to create a block of code within the CKEditor that will not be touched by the editor itself, and will be maintained in its intended-state until explicitly changed by the user? I've been attempting to input javascript variables (bound in script tags) and a flash movie following, but CKEditor continues to rewrite my pasted code/markup, and in doing so breaking my code. • Final classes in Python 3.x- something Guido isn't telling me?

  This question is built on top of many assumptions. If one assumption is wrong, then the whole thing falls over. I'm still relatively new to Python and have just entered the curious/exploratory phase. It is my understanding that Python does not support the creating of classes that cannot be subclassed (final classes). However, it seems to me that the bool class in Python cannot be subclassed. This makes sense when the intent of the bool class is considered (because bool is only supposed to have two values: true and false), and I'm happy with that. What I want to know is how this class was marked as final. • Entity Framework 4 overwrite Equals and GetHashCode of an own class property

  Hi, I’m using Visual Studio 2010 with .NET 4 and Entity Framework 4. I’m working with POCO Classes and not the EF4 Generator. I need to overwrite the Equals() and GetHashCode() Method but that doesn’t really work. Thought it’s something everybody does but I don’t find anything about the problem Online. When I write my own Classes and Equals Method, I use Equals() of property’s, witch need to be loaded by EF to be filled. Like this: public class Item { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual String Name { get; set; } public virtual List<UserItem> UserItems { get; set; } public virtual ItemType ItemType { get; set; } public override bool Equals(object obj) { Item item = obj as Item; if (obj == null) { return false; } return item.Name.Equals(this.Name) && item.ItemType.Equals(this.ItemType); } public override int GetHashCode() { return this.Name.GetHashCode() ^ this.ItemType.GetHashCode(); } } That Code doesn’t work, the problems are in Equals and GetHashCode where I try to get HashCode or Equal from “ItemType” . Every time I get a NullRefernceException if I try to get data by Linq2Entites. A dirty way to fix it, is to capture the NullReferenceException and return false (by Equals) and return base.GetHashCode() (by GethashCode) but I hope there is a better way to fix this problem. • TimeoutException when WCF Host and Client are in the same process

  I've ran into a really weird problem. I am building a heavily distributed application where each app instance can either be a Host and/or Client to a WCF-Service (very p2p-like). Everything works fine, as long as the Client and the targeted Host (By which I mean the app, not the Host, since currently everything runs on a single computer (so no Firewall problems etc.)) are NOT the same. IF they are the same, then the app hangs for exactly 1 Minute and then throws a TimeoutException. WCF-Logging did not produce anything helpful.   I build packages from a batch file using commands like: msbuild ..\lib\Package.dproj /target:Build /p:config=%1 The packages' settings are dependent on an option set: <Import Project="..\optionsets\COND_Defined.optset" Condition="'$(Base)'!='' And Exists('..\optionsets\COND_Defined.optset')"/> This option set defines a conditional symbol many of my packages depend on. • How/when to hire new programmers, and how to integrate them?

  Hiring new programmers, especially in a small company, can often present a Catch-22 situation. We have too much work to do, so we need to hire new programmers. But we can't hire new programmers now, because they will need mentoring and several months of learning curve in your industry/product/environment before they're useful, and none of the programmers has time to be a mentor to a new programmer, because they're all completely swamped with the current work load. That may be a slightly frivolous way of describing the situation, but nevertheless, it's difficult for a small company on a tight budget to justify hiring someone who is not only going to be unproductive for a long time, but will also take away from the performance of the current programmers. How have you dealt with this kind of situation? When is the best time to hire someone? What are the best tasks to assign to a new team member so that they can learn their way around your code base and start getting their hands dirty as quickly as possible? How do you get the new guy useful without bogging your existing programmers down in too much mentoring? Any comments & suggestions you have are much appreciated!

When PartCreationPolicy is missing, I get following exception: A single instance of controller 'MvcApplication4.Areas.Articles.Controllers.HomeController' cannot be used to handle multiple requests. If a custom controller factory is in use, make sure that it creates a new instance of the controller for each request.

  Hi All, We came up with a stream structure for the Rational ClearCase UCM model. We recently migrated the code base into the new setup. We had three different code bases, i.e. three physical code bases. The way migration was done in this way. we moved the production code first, created a baseline. Then the uat code and created a baseline and then the development code and created a baseline. As of now the integration stream has the latest baseline that is the development baseline. Now we have other two streams for the prd and the uat from which the release will be done in the respective environments. I have my dev stream now. I create an activity and make some changes. now I need to promote these changes into the uat environment. If I deliver the changes to the integration stream, merge is done but on a development basline. I do not want to rebase it to uat as many development apps wil get rebased into the uat which is not desired. How do I achieve promoting changes to the uat environment(uat stream). kindly advice.

  I'm working on an ASP.NET project in which the vast majority of the forms are generated dynamically at run time (form definitions are stored in a DB for customizability). Therefore, I have to dynamically create and add my controls to the Page every time OnLoad fires, regardless of IsPostBack. This has been working just fine and .NET takes care of managing ViewState for these controls. protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { base.OnLoad(e); RenderDynamicControls() } private void RenderDynamicControls(){ //1. call service layer to retrieve form definition //2. create and add controls to page container } I have a new requirement in which if a user clicks on a given button (this button is created at design time) the page should be re-rendered in a slightly different way. So in addition to the code that executes in OnLoad (i.e. RenderDynamicControls()), I have this code: protected void MyButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { RenderDynamicControlsALittleDifferently() } private void RenderDynamicControlsALittleDifferently() (){ //1. clear all controls from the page container added in RenderDynamicControls() //2. call service layer to retrieve form definition //3. create and add controls to page container } My question is, is this really the only way to accomplish what I'm after? It seems beyond hacky to effectively render the form twice simply to respond to a button click. I gather from my research that this is simply how the page-lifecycle works in ASP.NET: Namely, that OnLoad must fire on every Postback before child events are invoked. Still, it's worthwhile to check with the SO community before having to drink the kool-aid. On a related note, once I get this feature completed, I'm planning on throwing an UpdatePanel on the page to perform the page updates via Ajax. Any code/advice that make that transition easier would be much appreciated. Thanks

• Android custom view - setting it to take up max space available but no more

  I have a custom View class in my app that I'm using in xml layouts. Wherever I'm using this view in my xml, I don't want it to stretch it's container, but I want it to fill out whatever space is available. Here's an example to make it a little clearer. I have a LinearLayout set to horizontal orientation with my custom view followed by a TextView. The TextView is going to stretch the LinearLayout so that it takes up the space it needs and no more. I want my custom view to take up the vertical space that the TextView has made available. Let's say the TextView ends up being 50px tall because of it's contents. The LinearLayout is thus stretched to about this height (not taking into account any margins or padding), so I just want the view to know it can stretch to that height and not "push on" its container. Without overriding and of the measurement methods of the base class (onMeasure, etc) my View is actually stretching to take up as much space as possible. I have already played around with wrap_content and fill_parent a bunch, so I'm assuming I need to do something in one of the View class' measure methods.

• Runtime Exception when using Custom Healthmonitoring event in medium trust

  Hi, I'm using custom healthmonitoring events in ASP.NET We recently moved to a new server with default High Trust Permissions. Literature says that healthmonitoring and custom events should work under Medium or higher trust (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb398933.aspx). Problem is it doesn't. In less than high trust I get a SecurityException saying The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy It works in Full trust or when I remove the inheritance of System.Web.Management.WebErrorEvent. Any suggestions anyone? • TypeError: Error #1009 - (Null reference error) With Flash.

  I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error. "--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --" The structure of the project is like, it has the different sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between one another. All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists. Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code. I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. I really got stuck at this point. Any help will be great.I had not seen the particular solution i am looking for anywhere yet, though Error #1009 is common. I uploaded the fla, here ( http://tinyurl.com/249e95p ), for reference.It may not be working , since the included/refered video files and all are not there, but reviwing the action code/movie clips will be possible.   I am starting one POS (Point of sale) project. Targeting system is going to be written in C# .NET 2 WinForms and as main database server We are going to use MS-SQL Server. As we have a lot of POS devices in chain for one store I will love to have backend local data base system on each POS device. Scenario are following: When main server goes down!! POS application should continue working "off-line" with local database, until connection to main server come up again. Now I am in dilemma which local database is going to be most adoptable for me. Here is some notes for helping me point me in right direction: To be Light "My POS devices art usually old and suffering with performances" To be Free "I have a lot of devices and I do not wont additional cost beside main SQL serer" One day Ill love to try all that port on Mono and Linux OS. Here is what I've researched so far: Simple XML "Light but I am afraid of performance, My main table of items is average of 10K records" SQL-Expres "I am afraid that my POS devices is poor with hardware for SQLExpres, and also hard to install on each device and configure" Less known Advantage Database Server have free distribution of offline ADT system. DBF with extended Library,"Respect for good old DBFs but that era is behind Me with clipper and DBFs" MS Access Sqlite "Mostly like for now, but I am afraid how it is going to pair with MS SQL do they have same Data taypes". I know that in this SO is a lot of subjective data, but at least can someone recommended some others lite database system, or things that I shod most take attention before I choice database.

Here are 3 general schemes to make a living: Independent developers can offer a trial then purchase scheme. An alternative is an open source base application with pay extensions. A last (probably least popular with customers) scheme is to enforce some kind of subscription. Then the price of the software pales in comparison to the long term subscription fees. So, my question would be a hypothetical one. Suppose that you invest thousands of hours into developing an application. Now suppose you can choose any one of the three options to make a living off this application--or any other option you want--and suppose you have a very real fear of loosing 80% of your revenue to a cracked version if one can be made. To be clear this application does not require the internet to perform all its useful functions, that is, your application is a prime candidate to be a cracked release on some website. Which option would you feel most comfortable with defending yourself against this possible situation and briefly describe why this option would be the best.

• Handling MVC2 variables with hyphens in their name

  I'm working with some third-party software that creates querystring parameters with hyphens in their names. I was taking a look at this SO question and it seems like their solution is very close to what I need but I'm too ignorant to the underlying MVC stuff to figure out how to adapt this to do what I need. Ideally, I'd like to simply replace hyphens with underscores and that would be a good enough solution. If there's a better one, then I'm interested in hearing it. An example of a URL I want to handle is this: http://localhost/app/Person/List?First-Name=Bob with this Controller: public ActionResult List(string First_Name) { {...} } To repeat, I cannot change the querystring being generated so I need to support it with my controller somehow. But how? • How to find the first declaring method for a reference method

  Suppose you have a generic interface and an implementation: public interface MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param); } public class MyImplementation<T> implements MyInterface<T> { void foo(T param) { } } These two types are frework types. In the next step I want allow users to extend that interface as well as redeclare foo(T param) to maybe equip it with further annotations. public interface MyExtendedInterface extends MyInterface<Bar> { @Override void foo(Bar param); // Further declared methods } I create an AOP proxy for the extended interface and intercept especially the calls to furtherly declared methods. As foo(…) is no redeclared in MyExtendedInterface I cannot execute it by simply invoking MethodInvocation.proceed() as the instance of MyImplementation only implements MyInterface.foo(…) and not MyExtendedInterface.foo(…). So is there a way to get access to the method that declared a method initially? Regarding this example is there a way to find out that foo(Bar param) was declared in MyInterface originally and get access to the accoriding Method instance? I already tried to scan base class methods to match by name and parameter types but that doesn't work out as generics pop in and MyImplementation.getMethod("foo", Bar.class) obviously throws a NoSuchMethodException. I already know that MyExtendedInterface types MyInterface to Bar. So If I could create some kind of "typed view" on MyImplementation my math algorithm could work out actually.

  I've seen a lot of different ways of configuring Ninject with ASP.NET MVC, but the implementation seems to change slightly with each release of the MVC framework. I'm trying to inject a RavenDB session into my repository. If an instance of a class doesn't have a particular attribute, a default value for it should be returned instead. If no default value for the attribute is contained in the current class's defaults dictionary, the superclass's defaults dictionary should be searched. I'm trying to implement this using the recursive class method get_default. The program gets stuck in an infinite recursion, unfortunately. My understanding of super() is obviously lacking. By accessing __mro__, I can get it to work properly though, but I'm not sure this is a proper solution. I have the feeling the answer is somewhere in this article, but I haven't been able to find it yet. Perhaps I need to resort to using a metaclass?
