  Possible Duplicate: What are the best ways to increase your site's position in Google? How can I increase the traffic to my site? I know this question might seem a little off topic, but blogging may become important part of travel. Nowadays, in time of Facebook, Twitter and similar services, keeping a travel blog may seem a little archaic. It's not 2005 anymore. But a lot of my travel colleagues update their blogs and have significant number of readers. I also tried to keep my blog when I travel. However it seems that the only reader is my mum ;) What is your advice on promoting a travel blog?

• Why don't TITLE tags get indexed in google?

  Hi folks, a question: When I seach "Ride On" + my sites name, I see its indexed But when I search for "Green Horse" + my site's name, I dont see my site appearing in the results anywhere! <td><a href="#" title="Green Horse Ride">Ride On</a></td> Question1 Does this mean that title="" attributes are not indexed/shown by google at all? Question2 What is better to use ? Alt? what are my other alternatives except title and alt?

• Will Tracking Subdomains as Single Entity with Google Analytics Help SEO? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Does Google Analytics data affect SEO? We have two subdomains, one for our blog and one for our ecommerce store. The blog serves to bring traffic and the store is how we monetize the site. We have them designed to appear as one large site, but I know google sees them as two sites. Here is how the subdomains look: www.example.com (store) blog.example.com (blog) I believe I can configure analytics to use subdomain tracking as explained here: http://support.google.com/googleanalytics/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=55524 But my question is whether this will cause google to see our 2 subdomains as one larger domain for SEO purposes. In other words, is there any relationship to how you configure google analytics and how google indexes and ranks your website(s) and pages? Is there anything I need to do in anaytics or webmaster tools to make google aware that these two subdomains work together as one website? Thanks! Sam

  On a site that I'm working on, I'm trying to find ways of enforcing a one-person, one-account rule. In general, we'd like to do this by providing options to authenticate users with third-party services that provide this assurance. For example, it's possible to authenticate with Facebook and check whether the user is considered "verified" by Facebook (which means they must have provided either a phone number or credit card). This is roughly the level of identity verification we require--we're not doing banking or anything like that. But we want to give the user options. My question is, who else, besides Facebook, provides this? (uncertain of the proper SE forum, please comment if there's a better SE site to ask this)

• How to include high resolution version of thumbnail

  I'm running a tube site that has a thumbnail for each post/video (running via Wordpress, 500k posts). When I first created the thumbnails they were a fairly large size, around 640px in width each and because of that I was seeing a lot of traffic from Google Images. After streamlining the site and resizing all of the thumbnails down to 170px rather than scaling them down I'm worried that Google isn't going to rank the images as high as they would be at a larger resolution, so is there a way to include the higher res versions and serve them to be indexed instead of the smaller ones?

• Why am I getting domainpark.cgi being called from my website?

  I used to test my site on www.exampleone.com and now I have moved to the real domain www.realdomain.com now and www.exampleone.com is now parked by 1and1 (default). Now when I test to see which requests are made by the www.realdomain.comI see domainpark.cgi and park.js from Sedo Parking also being requested as well as the js that serves the ads by adclicks. How do I get rid of this? It's not on the index page at all, and it's causing a lot of strain and slowing my site down.

• Possible automated Bing Ads fraud?

  I run a website that generates life insurance leads. The site is very simple a) there is a form for capturing the user's details, life insurance requirements etc b) A quote comparison feature We drive traffic to our site using conventional Google Adwords and Bing Ads campaigns. Since the 6th January we have received 30-40 dodgy leads which have the following in common: All created between 2 and 8 AM Phone number always in the format "123 1234 1234' Name, Date Of Birth, Policy details, Address all seem valid and are unique across the leads Email addresses from "disposable" email accounts including dodgit.com, mailinator.com, trashymail.com, pookmail.com Some leads come from the customer form, some via the quote comparison feature All come from different IP addresses We get the keyword information passed through from the URLs All look to be coming from Bing Ads All come from Internet Explorer v7 and v8 The consistency of the data and the random IP addresses seem to suggest an automated approach but I'm not sure of the intent. We can handle identifying these leads within our database but is there anyway of stopping this at the Ad level i.e. before the click through.

• How to use different php.ini files for different VirtualHosts?

  I have my site and it's staging subdomain running on the same CentOS machine running apache. The subdomain is created using a VirtualHost, and I use it to find any bugs before I push to production. I want the php.ini file for the staging VirtualHost to be a development one, and the production site will use a production php.ini. How can I configure apache to use different php.ini files? I don't want to use php_value/php_flag for everything, I'd rather just use the php.ini file I already have available. I've tried creating an .htaccess file that looks like this, SetEnv PHPRC /path/to/php.ini/directory This has no effect, as phpinfo() tells me it's still using /etc/php.ini. I've also tried setting PHPIniDir for both virtual hosts (www and staging) and it complains about seeing the directive twice.

One of my friend told me that your websites index is visible and its one step away to access the password file and he shows me that very simply using the Google search.   I'm creating a fairly large site. Will my links appear spammy if I use the same word as in the pathfile in the url? For example: www.example.com/apples/great-apple-recipes www.example.com/apples/fresh-apple-pie www.example.com/apples/delicious-apple-turnovers I do not want my link to appear spammy. But is it ok if the keyword is almost always the same as in the pathfile on a huge site? Does the pathfile count as part of the keyword? Also, how many words in total should a url (including pathfile etc...) be?

• Suggestions on Calculating Advertising Rates [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I set a price for advertising on my website? I recently launched a new developer website, Black Belt Coder. The site is only seeing about 150 visitors per day but, given that it's only been live two months, I feel I'm off to a good start. I'd like to start monetizing the site as soon as possible but consider AdSense and other programs largely a waste of time. I'd like to deal directly with the advertisers but have no idea what to charge. Are there any guidelines for determining advertising rates based on visitors or page views? I don't expect to do PPC. I want to charge a the time period for banner ads, knowing that advertisers will be keeping an eye on the number of clicks.

• Webapps don't open correctly when using Chromium

  I have just installed Ubuntu 12.10 completely fresh, the old version of Ubuntu was discarded or overwritten (or whatever you call it). I want to use the Ubuntu webapps with Chromium but I've had several problems. }The first problem is that Chromium won't ask me if I want to install a webapp if I go to a supported site (and I don't already have the webapp installed). The second problem is that when I install the webapp by visiting the site in Firefox, and then I try to open it in Chromium, Ubuntu will open a completely new Chromium icon and window in the Launcher, and the icon will be labeled "Untitled"; also there is no search bar in the new window, only the tab at the top. I've tried using several webapps with Firefox set as the default browser and they work as expected: once the webapp icon is clicked a Firefox window is opened on the Firefox launcher icon, and the window has 'new tab' button and search bar.

• google webmaster showing 6 pages submitted 0 indexed, yet i can see them all there when i search in google?

  I have a small 'brochure' type site with 6 pages, i can see them all the pages showing up in google when i search for my site. But in webmaster tools under the sitemaps section it says 6 submitted, (the blue bar of the graph), but the indexed pages - the red bar is showing 0 indexed pages, even though they seem to be indexed ? any idea why this is ? I dont really think its that important as the pages are still indexed, but it just seems odd. =================================================== UPDATE 9/3/12 having just looked in google webmaster its showing that there are 11 pages indexed, under the health index status tab.. but under the optimization sitemap tab it shows 6 urls submitted but only 1 indexed ? please see images bellow index status: Sitemap status:

Line number: 0 Error name: Stack: Now I don't actually know what cloudfront is or what it does. And I do not refer to this script in my site. So why would I be getting js error logged as if it was a script being run on my own site? This is using elmah logging.

  Hello. I'd like to build a web service similar to kickstarter that allows users to pledge money to an idea, tho I'm unsure how I can implement this kind of payment system. If the the idea receives a specified amount of money, then the donors are charged. If it doesn't, the donors are not charged. I've done some preliminary research and have found Amazon Payments to be a possible solution provider for this, but I'm still unsure where to start with this and was hoping someone could point me in some right directions for how I can go about implementing this kind of payment structure in my web site. I should also note that this is primarily a prototype I'm building, so it's ok if the solution is limited to U.S. customers only. Also, I plan to build the site using Ruby on Rails. • Google shows "search instead for" when searching for our website

  Our website is new and the name is similar (only one letter different than another website) completely different type and company though. searching for xxxxxA works OK in Google and we find relatively good results. However searching xxxxxA.com finds results for the other website and gives us the following options: Showing results for xxxxxE.com Search instead for xxxxxA.com (hyperlink when clicked then it is correctly searching for our site) Questions: Do we need to contact Google to correct this and if yes how ? if not will it be corrected automatically when the site becomes more popular and what is the process?   So chrome has just updated itself automatically and you are now running v18 – great. Or is it… If like me, you are someone that are running sites using a self-signed SSL Certificate (i.e. when running a site on a developer machine) you may come across the following lovely message; Fear not, this is likely as a result of you following instructions you found on the apache openssl site which results in a self signed cert using the MD5 signature hashing algorithm. Using OpenSSL The simple fix is to generate a new certificate specifying to use the SHA512 signature hashing algorithm, like so; openssl req -new -x509 -sha512 -nodes -out server.crt -keyout server.key Simples! Now, you should be able to confirm the signature algorithm used is sha512 by looking at the details tab of certificate Notes If you change your certificate, be sure to reapply any private key permissions you require – such as allowing access to the application pool user.

  Is anyone aware of any studies on what colour scheme is best for use in multi-coloured text based computer work? Specifically in terms of reducing eye strain. For instance is a black back ground and light text best? Should it be a dark colour rather than going all the way to black? I've seen the questions on this site about "which is your favourite" that is not what I am after. I also aware that my question may be to specific asking for a colour scheme, if anyone could link me to some guidelines instead that would be appreciated as well. • Repeating keywords in inbound links

  Hy. I have a service similar to bit.ly. The link generation method is similar but the site is not. A user uses my site just like the mentioned bit.ly, but i offer a differnet kind of service for which i would want to rank (on Google) for. If i were to generate links such as: mysite.com/my-keywords/1Asdf34 would it be considered spammy or black hat? The same for bit.ly would be: bit.ly/url-shortening-services/3k1dS4sd For bit.ly it would defeat the purpose, but url length in my case does not have to be short.
