  • constructors and inheritance in JS

    - by nandinga
    Hi all, This is about "inheritance" in JavaScript. Supose I create a constructor Bird(), and another called Parrot() which I make to "inherit" the props of Bird by asigning an instance of it to Parrot's prototype, like the following code shows: function Bird() { this.fly = function(){}; } function Parrot() { this.talk = function(){ alert("praa!!"); }; } Parrot.prototype = new Bird(); var p = new Parrot(); p.talk(); // Alerts "praa!!" alert(p.constructor); // Alerts the Bird function!?!?! After I've created an instance of Parrot, how comes that the .constructor property of it is Bird(), and not Parrot(), which is the constructor I've used to create the object? Thanks!!

  • Jquery getJSON Not Working Cross Site

    - by CJ
    I have a piece of javascript that grabs JSON data. When executed locally everything seems to work fine. However, when I try accessing it from a different site, it doesn't work. Here's the script. $(function(){ var aT = new AjaxTest(); aT.getJson(); }); var AjaxTest = function() { this.ajaxUrl = "http://mydeveloperpage.com/sandbox/ajax_json_test/client_reciever.php"; this.getJson = function(){ $.getJSON(this.ajaxUrl, function(data){ $.each(data, function(i, piece){ alert(piece); }); }); } } You can find a copy of the exact same file at "http://mydeveloperpage.com/sandbox/ajax_json_test/". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Advice about insert into SQLCE

    i am inserting about 1943 records by these function into SQLCE.This is my insert function.Parameters come from StringReader(string comes from webservice).This function executes 1943 times and takes about 20 seconds.I dropped table's indexes,what can i do to improve it?I create just 1 time mycomm and sqlceresultset. • Creating get/set method dynamically in javascript

    - by portoalet
    I am trying to create a UserDon object, and trying to generate the get and set methods programmatically ( based on Pro Javascript book by John Resig page 37 ), and am testing this on Firefox 3.5 The problem is: in function UserDon, "this" refers to the window object instead of the UserDon object. So after calling var userdon = new UserDon(...) I got setname and getname methods created on the window object (also setage and getage). How can I fix this? function UserDon( properties ) { for( var i in properties ) { (function(){ this[ "get" + i ] = function() { return properties[i]; }; this[ "set" + i ] = function(val) { properties[i] = val; }; })(); } } var userdon = new UserDon( { name: "Bob", age: 44 });

  • What to name this class?

    - by orlandu63
    (This is not an interface: I simply omitted the method bodies) class _ { protected $_data = array(); function __construct($data); function set($name, $value); function get($name); function __set($name, $value); function __get($name); //aliases for their respective non-magic methods. # and some other generic methods } Essentially it's a class that provides a magical object-oriented reusable access layer to some data. I've considered DataLayer, DataObject and some others; I'd like to hear some suggestions from someone who's more terminologically savvy.

  • Very simple jQuery rollover

    - by Gusepo
    I made a very simple jQuery img rollover function inspired by this one: http://www.smileycat.com/miaow/archives/000224.php. It just check all the imgs that contain _off in their name and swap them with an img with the same name but "_on" instead of "_off". Since I can't use background imgs in my layout, I feel that's an handy solution. But I've got the feeling that the swapping is not smooth, like if the function runs slow. What do you think? Are there ways to optimize it? Here is the code: function roll_over() { $("img[src*='_off']").hover( function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_off", "_on"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); }, function() { var stringa = $(this).attr("src"); var stringa = stringa.replace("_on", "_off"); $(this).attr("src", stringa); } ); }

  • Updating List Elements, Haskell

    - by Tom
    I have homework where I am to update a list using a function that takes two elements and returns a value of part of the first element given in the function. So it's required to update the entire listing by going through each element and update its value by applying the function against all other elements in the list (including itself). So far I've been trying to firstly map the list (so that each element is done the same) and then specifically update each elements value by mapping again just the value of the specified element however in trying to map just the specific value through: the function, the specific element and the entire list I keep getting complaints that I'm inferring the list of values made from the 'map function p@list list' rather than simply giving the value at p@list. Is this the correct method to try to update a list against the entire list itself? EDIT: spelling mistakes and grammar

  • How invoke live method with arguments

    - by dorelal
    I am learning how to write jQuery plugin. So why I am doing what I am doing does not matter. I writing a plugin called live2 which does nothing else but internally calls live method. (function($) { $.fn.live2 = function() { /* if there are no elements then just return */ if (!this.length) return this; return this.each(function() { var $this = $(this); jQuery.fn.live.apply(this, arguments); }); // end of return this.each(function()) }; // end of plugin })(jQuery); Above code should be invoked just live any live method. Instead of live use live2. $('#container').live2('click',function(){ return false; }) But the plugin is not working. Any idea what the fix should be.

  • ANDing javascript objects together

    - by Jonas
    I ran across this chunk of code (modified) in our application, and am confused to how it works: function someObject() { this.someProperty = {}; this.foo = { bar: { baz: function() { return "Huh?" } } }; this.getValue = function() { return (this.someProperty && this.foo.bar && this.foo.bar.baz && this.foo.bar.baz()) || null; } } function test() { var o = new someObject(); var val = o.getValue(); alert(val); } when you call the test() function, the text "Huh?" is alerted. I'm not sure how the result of getValue is returning that, I would've thought doing A && B && C && D would have returned true, rather than the value of D.

  • jquery plugin with multiple functions

    - by tcurdt
    According to the developer documentation jquery plugins are supposed to have only one namespace for all functions they make available. Which is straight forward as long as you only expose a single function per context (static/element). (function($){ var state_a = 0, $.myplugin = function(in_options) { // static return this; } $.fn.myplugin = function(in_options) { // element return this; } })(jQuery); This makes calls like this possible: $("elem").myplugin(options); jQuery.myplugin(options); What's the best approach if you have more than one function and need to share state? I would like to call into my plugin like this: $("elem").myplugin.start(options); $("elem").myplugin.stop(); jQuery.myplugin.start(options); jQuery.myplugin.stop();

Can someone please identify the issue? I am not able to figure why it is not letting me set the property.

  • jQuery - Add click event to Div and go to first link found

    - by LuckyShot
    Hi guys, I think I've been too much time looking at this function and just got stuck trying to figure out the nice clean way to do it. It's a jQuery function that adds a click event to any div with a click CSS class found in the page and when clicked it redirects the user to the first link found in the div. function clickabledivs() { $('.click').each( function (intIndex) { $(this).bind("click", function(){ window.location = $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ).attr('href'); }); } ); } The code simply works although I'm pretty sure there is a fairly better way to accomplish it, specially the selector I am using: $( "#"+$(this).attr('id')+" a:first-child" ) looks too long and slow. Any ideas? Please let me know if you need more details. Thanks! PS: I've got some jQuery benchmarking reference from Project2k.de here: http://blog.projekt2k.de/2010/01/benchmarking-jquery-1-4/

  • Argument passing regarding ivars

    - by StoneBreaker
    I am passing an iVar into a function. The iVar is a double. The value of the iVar inside the function is correct, but the value of the iVar outside the function is not changed. This must have something to do with the way that I am receiving the iVar into the function. How do I pass a double iVar in so that its value is changed in the object and not only in the function? I do the same thing with pointers and the results are as expected, so I think I am not understanding scalar argument passing in c/objective-c.

  • Custom jQuery dropdown

    - by Coughlin
    I am creating a custom simple dropdown using jQuery that hides/shows a element based on over state. The problem I have now is that when you go over the shown element it hides, you cant move your mouse in to the dropdown that was created. Any thoughts on how to fix that also, is there an easier way to do what I have? I am going to be reusing this and not sure the best way to set the code up for I dont need to copy/paste six times. $(function(){ $("#dog-nav").hover( function(){ $(".sub-drop-box-dog").show("fast"); }, function(){ $(".sub-drop-box-dog").hide("fast"); } ); $("#cat-nav").hover( function(){ $(".sub-drop-box-cat").show("fast"); }, function(){ $(".sub-drop-box-cat").hide("fast"); } ); });

  • Tracking Mouse Stop

    - by Hallik
    I am trying to track mouse movements in the browser, and if a user stops their mouse for 0.5 seconds, to execute some code. I have put a breakpoint in the code below in firebug, and it breaks on the var mousestop = function(evt) line, but then jumps to the return statement. Am I missing something simple? Why isn't it executing the POST statement? I am tracking mouse clicks in a similar way, and it posts to the server just fine. Just not mouse stops. $.fn.saveStops = function() { $(this).bind('mousemove.clickmap', function(evt) { var mousestop = function(evt) { $.post('/heat-save.php', { x:evt.pageX, y:evt.pageY, click:"false", w:window.innerWidth, h:window.innerHeight, l:escape(document.location.pathname) }); }, thread; return function() { clearTimeout(thread); thread = setTimeout(mousestop, 500); }; }); };

  • Whats faster in Javascript a bunch of small setInterval loops, or one big one?

    - by RobertWHurst
    Just wondering if its worth it to make a monolithic loop function or just add loops were they're needed. The big loop option would just be a loop of callbacks that are added dynamically with an add function. adding a function would look like this setLoop(function(){ alert('hahaha! I\'m a really annoying loop that bugs you every tenth of a second'); }); setLoop would add the function to the monolithic loop. so is the is worth anything in performance or should I just stick to lots of little loops using setInterval?

  • openssl ssl encryption

    - by deddihp
    Hello, I want to discuss about openssl write and read method. Assume I have an data structure like below: /-----------------------------------------------------\ | my_header | PAYLOAD | \-----------------------------------------------------/ | | \ / \ / not encrypted encrypted I think the proper algorithm would be like this : SEND: build my_header with my own header. encrypt PAYLOAD with encryption function attach my_header and PAYLOAD (encrypted) to one buffer send it using common POSIX function just like send or sendto RECV: using common POSIX function just like recv or recvfrom. extract my_header and PAYLOAD(encrypted) decrypt PAYLOAD with decryption function at last i got my_header and PAYLOAD(decrypted). How is your approach if you face a problem like above. Since openssl encrypt all of data that is sent to SSL_write function (CMIIW). Thanks

  • adding multiple rows to jquery Datatables dynamically

    - by arrowill12
    I am trying to add multiple rows at once to a jQuery Datatable. I would like to be able to create a string such as the one below and call a function to add these elements as rows in the table. Is there a function that will allow me to do this? var trString = "<tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr><tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr><tr class='custom class'><td></td><td></td></tr>" I have seen the fnAddData function but I would not be able to add my custom classes dynamically to the rows using that function. Also I have tried fnAddTr but I keep receiving an error saying my object does not have the method "getelementsByTagName" again, is there a function that will allow me to add a string of "" to a datatable?

  • .delegate equivalent of an existing .live method in jQuery 1.4.2

    - by kim3er
    I have an event handler bound to the hover event using the .live method, which is below: $(".nav li").hover(function () { $(this).addClass("hover"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("hover"); }); It is important to note, that I require both functions within the handler to ensure synchronisation. Is it possible to rewrite the function using .delegate, as the following does not work? $(".nav").delegate("li", "hover", function () { $(this).addClass("hover"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("hover"); }); Rich

  • How to Access a Private Variable?

    - by SoulBeaver
    This question isn't meant to sound as blatantly insulting as it probably is right now. This is a homework assignment, and the spec sheet is scarce and poorly designed to say the least. We have a function: double refuel( int liter, GasStation *gs ) { // TODO: Access private variable MaxFuel of gs and decrement. } Sound simple enough? It should be, but the class GasStation comes with no function that accesses the private variable MaxFuel. So how can I access it anyway using the function refuel? I'm not considering creating a function setFuel( int liter ) because the teacher always complains rather energetically if I change his specification. So... I guess I have to do some sort of hack around it, but I'm not sure how to go about this without explicitely changing the only function in GasStation and giving it a parameter so that I can call it here. Any hints perhaps?
