  • Make windows XP ask for password

    We have software that have some features that are so sensitive that we want to verify the identity of the user. Instead of using a own user/password scheme we would really like to either test the password against the user password in XP, or even make Windows self reauthenticate the user so we can make sure that it is an authorized person that accesses the function. Or software is only running on windows XP embedded. I do not know if this is possible at all, does windows have any such features?

  • Modifying / Resetting the Last reboot time

    I am trying to recreate a problem I encountered to try to confirm the root causes of it. One of the possible theory is that the problem is being caused because the server hadn't restarted for along time. Since I've already restarted the computer, Is there a way of resetting/modifying the "Last Reboot time" so the computer thinks it hasn't restarted for along time? I am using systeminfo | find "System Boot Time" The computer is running Windows XP Embedded if it helps. Thanks

  • Unable to receive any emails using postfix, dovecot, mysql, and virtual domain/mailboxes

    I have been working on configuring my mail server for the last couple of weeks using postfix, dovecot, and mysql. I have one virtual domain and a few virtual mailboxes. Using squirrelmail I have been able to log into my accounts and send emails out (e.g. I can send to googlemail just fine), however I am not able to receive any emails--not from the outside world nor from within my own network. I am able to telnet in using localhost, my private ip, and my public ip on port 25 without any problems (I've tried it from the server itself and from another computer on my network).     I am currently having a problem I dont understand. Wherever I look it says mySQL (5.5) / InnoDB doesnt have a table limit.   • Good Enough Failover Strategy for DNS / MySQL / Email

    I've asked and read a lot questions regarding DNS failover but the more I read the more complicated it becomes, some people say it's good enough some say it isn't. No clear answers from what I read. I was wondering if we can set it straight once and for all, at least for the requirements of most websites out there. Right now let's assume the following: We don't need really need load-balancing, what we need is a failover solution. We are running a website based on LAMP on a VPS. We need to make sure that the Web Server, MySQL, Email are always accessible if not 99%. Basically here's my idea and questions about it: Web Server: We need at least one failover server (another VPS on a separate data center). Is DNS Failover via Round Robin good, if not, what's the best? And how do you exactly implement it? How do you make the files you upload/delete on Server A is also on Server B? MySQL: I've only read a brief intro to MySQL replication and I assume that I can replicate Server A to Server B and vice versa on the fly right? So just it case Server A fails and Server B is now running, it will continue to work and replicate to Server A when it becomes available. So in essence Server B is now the primary server, and will later on failover to Server A, should a failure happen again. Email: If we are gonna use DNS Failover, using webmail or relying on emails stored on the server is probably not a good idea right? Since some emails might be on Server A while some might be on Server B? I assume a basic email forwarder to a 3rdparty is good enough (like Gmail for example) to ensure all emails are kept in one place. Now i'm using MAMP and it's pretty easy but i would have a virtual machine (ubuntu server) and i need to connect my java program with this virtual machine using vitualBox. the situation: I installed VirtualBox on my mac and I installed an ubuntu-server machine set "bridge adapter" in the network settings of VB I installed mysql on ubuntu-server and i created a simple database (all work well by ubuntu) doing ifconfig by ubuntu I get the ip: 192.168.1.217 so in the java program i made this function: public static Connection connect(String host, int port, String dbName, String user, String passwd) { Connection dbConnection = null; try { String dbString = null; Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance(); dbString = "jdbc:mysql://" + host + ":" + port + "/" + dbName; dbConnection = DriverManager.getConnection(dbString, user, passwd); } catch (Exception e) { System.err.println("Failed to connect with the DB"); e.printStackTrace(); } return dbConnection; } and in the main() i use: Connection con = connect(1, "192.168.1.217", 3306, "Ciao", "root", "cocacola"); 3306 was a default value. I don't know if is correct, it works on mamp, but…. how I can find the correct port that I have to use with VB? when I ran the program I get the catch excepion… what's wrong? ps: i have to install apache o something else?

According to the Adobe <object> / <embed> element documentation, there are variety of methods to do this: 1) Add a Flash parameter inside the <object> tag: <param name="play" value="false"> 2) Add the attribute play inside the <embed> tag: <embed ... play="false"> 3) Add the attribute flashvars inside the <embed> tag: <embed ... flashvars="play=false"> Which is awesome.   • Embedded pdf object steals focus and will not let it go

    Hi guys, I was given the task of adding some usability to one of our applications, ie. make sure that every controll has a shortcut key, and that they can be reached by "tabbing" through the page. The gui runs in a IE. control on a winform, and consists of asp.net pages, so basically it is just asp.net always running in internet explorer. My problem is that one of the pages has an embeded pdf in it, like so: <object tabindex="-1" height="273" width="663" visible="false" type="Application/pdf" data="showpdf.ashx#navpanes=0"></object> showpdf.ashx is an httphandler, that streams the pdf contents to the response. It does not handle focus in any way. Now when I run this page, the pdf application steals focus, no matter what I do to set it to another control. And when it takes focus, I cannot take it back with the keyboard. Only a mouseclick on the page will set it to another control. I have tried to set focus in code behind OnPreRender, or in jevescript, but no luck. It seems that the http handler always runs after all the other code, and it sets focus on the pdf object. Any thought would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi all, I have migrated from log4j to logback and also am transitioning to Glassfish from Jetty. I haven't updated my logback configuration from what I had used with Jetty and consequently am not seeing any logs being written. What logging provider should I use? Should I just do my configuration with the Glassfish loggers in domain.xml? <access-log rotation-interval-in-minutes="15" rotation-suffix="yyyy-MM-dd"/> <log-service file="${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/logs/server.log" log-rotation-limit-in-bytes="2000000"> <module-log-levels/> </log-service> These are the defaults in domain.xml. I'd like to split the longs up into several files as well as control log level for each package. I think I can figure out how to configure them, but should I use Glassfish logging or can I use logback? Walter

  • Popover with embedded navigation controller doesn't respect size on back nav

    I have a UIPopoverController hosting a UINavigationController, which contains a small hierarchy of view controllers. I followed the docs and for each view controller, I set the view's popover-context size like so: [self setContentSizeForViewInPopover:CGSizeMake(320, 500)]; (size different for each controller) This works as expected as I navigate forward in the hierarchy-- the popover automatically animates size changes to correspond to the pushed controller. However, when I navigate "Back" through the view stack via the navigation bar's Back button, the popover doesn't change size-- it remains as large as the deepest view reached. This seems broken to me; I'd expect the popover to respect the sizes that are set up as it pops through the view stack. Am I missing something? Thanks.

    Hi all, Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am trying to make an application that will include the ability to scan barcodes on Android. I'm looking at using ZXing as the library, however, I want to embed the scanner in my application so that the user doesn't have to have the ZXing barcode scanner installed to use my application. From the description of ZXing, it sounds like this is possible. I've gotten as far as building ZXing, linking it into my project in Eclipse, then creating a new reader instance. However, I'm lost when it comes to starting the barcode reader and implementing the callbacks. IMO, this is when the documentation here gets hazy. If someone could explain how to use ZXing properly, that would be of great help. Cheers!
