  • How to get a count of ManagementObjects (WMI results) without enumerating through the collection in

    - by Mark
When querying for large ammount of data through WMI (say the windows events log Win32_NTLogEvent) it is very useful to know what kind of numbers you are getting yourself into before downloading all the content. Is there a way two do this? From what i know there is no "Select Count(*) FROM Win32_NTLogEvent" in WQL. From what i know the Count property of the ManagementObjectCollection actually enumerates through all the results whether you have the Rewindable property set to true or false. If it cannot be done in .NET, can it be done by directly using the underlying IWbem objects Thanks

  • Explain a block of crazy JS code inside Sizzle(the CSS selector engine)

    - by Andy Li
    So, here is the function for pre-filtering "CHILD": function(match){ if ( match[1] === "nth" ) { // parse equations like 'even', 'odd', '5', '2n', '3n+2', '4n-1', '-n+6' var test = /(-?)(\d*)n((?:\+|-)?\d*)/.exec( match[2] === "even" && "2n" || match[2] === "odd" && "2n+1" || !/\D/.test( match[2] ) && "0n+" + match[2] || match[2]); // calculate the numbers (first)n+(last) including if they are negative match[2] = (test[1] + (test[2] || 1)) - 0; match[3] = test[3] - 0; } // TODO: Move to normal caching system match[0] = done++; return match; } The code is extracted from line 442-458 of sizzle.js. So, why is the line var test = ..., have the exec inputing a boolean? Or is that really a string? Can someone explain it by splitting it into a few more lines of code?

  • Cocoa window position anomaly

    - by Marius
Hello everyone, I have a weird problem with positioning a window on screen. I want to center the window on the screen, but i don't know how to do that. Here's what i've got. The window is created from nib by the main controller: IdentFormController *ftf = [[IdentFormController alloc] initWithWindowNibName:@"IdentForm"]; [[ftf window] makeKeyAndOrderFront:self]; Now the IdentFormController has awakeFromNib() method in which it tries to position the window. For the sake of simplicity i've just tried to do setFrameOrigin(NSMakePoint(0, 0)). What happens is as follows: The first time i create this window, everything works as expected. But if i create it again after releasing the previous, it starts appearing at random positions. Why does it do that?

  • Glib convert epoch time to string.

    - by PP
I am using glibs functions to convert epoch time to string as follows. But each time it is giving me some random time. //Convert Time in string. GDate *date = g_date_new_julian(timestampsecs); gchar date_string[50]; g_date_strftime(date_string, 50, (const gchar*)"%a, %I:%M %p", (const GDate*)date); printf("Date String [%s]\n", date_string ); Why this might be happening? am i missing anything? Thanks, PP.

  • Compression Array of Bytes

    - by Pedro Magalhaes
Hi, My problem is: I want to store a array of bytes in compressed file, and then I want to read it with a good performance. So I create a array of bytes then pass to a ZLIB algorithm then store it in the file. For my surprise the algorithm doesn't work well., probably because the array is a random sample. Using this approach, it will will be ber easy to read. Just copy the stream to memory, decompress them and copy it to a array of bytes. But i need to compress the file. Do I have to use a algorithm, like RLE, for compresse the byte array? I think that I can store the byte array like a string and then compress it. But i think I am going to have a poor performance on reading data. Sorry for my poor english. Thanks

  • How to convert a MSSQL database (including procedures, functions and triggers) to a firebird databas

    - by user193655
I am considering migrating to Firebird. To have a "quick start" approach I downloaded the trial of a conversion tool (DBConvert) and tried it. I just picked up a random tool, this tool doesn't convert procedures, functions and triggers (I don't think it is a limit of the trial since there is not an explicit reference to sp, sf and triggers in the link above). Anyway by trying that tool I had the message: "The DB cannot be converted succesfully because some FK names are too long." This is because in some tables I have FK whose description is 32 chars. Is this a real firebird limit or it is possible to overcome it somehow (of course renaming the FK is an extreme option because it is extra work)? Anyway how to convert a MS SQL DB fully to FIREBIRD? Is there a valid tool? Did someone succed in a conversion of non trivial databases?

  • How do I use Some/None Options in this F# example?

    - by Phobis
I am new to F# and I have this code: if s.Contains("-") then let x,y = match s.Split [|'-'|] with | [|a;b|] -> int a, int b | _ -> 0,0 Notice that we validate that there is a '-' in the string before we split the string, so the match is really unnecessary. Can I rewrite this with Options? I changed this code, it was originally this (but I was getting a warning): if s.Contains("-") then let [|a;b|] = s.Split [|'-'|] let x,y = int a, int b NOTE: I am splitting a range of numbers (range is expressed in a string) and then creating the integer values that represent the range's minimum and maximum.

  • c99 goto past initialization

    - by R Samuel Klatchko
While debugging a crash, I came across this issue in some code: int func() { char *p1 = malloc(...); if (p1 == NULL) goto err_exit; char *p2 = malloc(...); if (p2 == NULL) goto err_exit; ... err_exit: free(p2); free(p1); return -1; } The problem occurs when the first malloc fails. Because we jump across the initialization of p2, it contains random data and the call to free(p2) can crash. I would expect/hope that this would be treated the same way as in C++ where the compiler does not allow a goto to jump across an initialization. My question: is jumping across an initialization allowed by the standard or is this a bug in gcc's implementation of c99?

  • strtod() and sprintf() inconsistency under GCC and MSVC

    - by Dmitry Sapelnikov
I'm working on a cross-platform app for Windows and Mac OS X, and I have a problem with two standard C library functions: strtod() - string-to-double conversion sprintf() - when used for outputting double-precision floating point numbers) Their GCC and MSVC versions return different results. I'm looking for a well-tested cross-platform open-source implementation of those functions, or just for a pair of functions that would correctly and consistently convert double to string and back. I've already tried the clib GCC implementation, but the code is too long and too dependent on other source files, so I expect the adaptation to be difficult. What implementations of string-to-double and double-to-string functions would you recommend?

  • JavaScript data grid for millions of rows

    - by Rudiger
I need to present millions of rows of data to users in a grid using JavaScript. I don't want the user thinking about viewing finite pieces of data; it should appear that all of the data is available. Rather than downloading all the data at once, small chunks are downloaded as the user comes to them (by scrolling, keying in row numbers, searching). The rows will not be edited through this front end, so read-only answers are acceptable. What JavaScript data grids are best for this kind of seamless paging?

  • How to check value of stored procedure output parameter

    - by Anna T
I have a stored procedure that: A. inserts some rows into a "table variable" based on some joins B. selects all values from column x from that table into a string with comma separated values C. selects all from the "table variable" If I execute the procedure like this: EXEC CatalogGetFilmDetails2 2,111111; a table is returned as instructed per step C above. How can I execute it so that also the output parameter value is displayed? (see point B above). I need to check if it's calculated properly. And since the second parameter is of output type, meaning it's calculated inside the procedure, why is it mandatory to specify a value for it when executing the procedure? I normally use a random value for it, it anyway doesn't matter/impact the result. On the other hand if I try to execute it without the output parameter, it returns an error) Thank you very much! This is how the procedure starts: CREATE PROCEDURE CatalogGetFilmDetails2 (@FilmID int, @CommaSepString VARCHAR(50) OUTPUT) AS And this is how @CommaSepString is calculated: SELECT @CommaSepString = STUFF((SELECT ', ' + Categ FROM @Filme1 FOR XML PATH('')), 1,1,'')

  • search paths where one native library depends on another

    - by carneades
I'm using JNA and Java but I think this question affects any native-to-nonnative bridge. I have a Java application which relies on lib1.dylib, and lib1.dylib relies on lib2.dylib. I want to put everything inside of my .app file on Mac. I can easily put lib1.dylib inside and set java.classpath (or NativeLibrary.addSearchPath()) to tell the JVM where to find lib1.dylib. The trouble is, I don't know how to communicate that lib1.dylib's dependencies are also in the location I provided. The result is that lib1 is loaded fine, but then lib2 can't be found since it's not in the operating system's library path. Anyone know how I can overcome this problem? I imagine it must come up plenty in big projects with large numbers of shared libraries.

  • how to rearrange randomly and show all the 5 elements

    - by user295189
how can I rearrange it randomly and NOT use shuffle function and still be able to randomly arrange all the elements $input = array("Neo", "Morpheus", "Trinity", "Cypher", "Tank"); $rand_keys = array_rand($input, 5); echo $input[$rand_keys[0]] . "\n"; echo $input[$rand_keys[1]] . "\n"; echo $input[$rand_keys[2]] . "\n"; echo $input[$rand_keys[3]] . "\n"; echo $input[$rand_keys[4]] . "\n"; so it shows random names everytime the function is ran. thanks

  • TcpListener Socket still active after program exits.

    - by lnical
I'm trying to stop a TCP Listener as my program is exiting. I do not care about any data that is currently active on the socket or any of the active client sockets. The socket clean up code is essentially: try { myServer.Server.Shutdown(SocketShutdown.Both) } catch (Exception ex) { LogException(ex) } myServer.Server.Close(0) myServer.Stop() myServer is a TCPListener On some occasions, Shutdown will thrown an exception System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: A request to send or receive data was disallowed because the socket is not connected and (when sending on a datagram socket using a sendto call) no address was supplied at System.Net.Sockets.Socket.Shutdown(SocketShutdown how) When this happens, the socket is never released. Even after the application exits netstat shows the socket is still in the listening state. I have not been able to create definitive reproduction scenerio, it happens at seemingly random times. Client Sockets are cleaned up independently. Do you have any suggestions to help me make this socket die?

  • Reading files from an embedded ZIP archive

    - by aix
I have a ZIP archive that's embedded inside a larger file. I know the archive's starting offset within the larger file and its length. Are there any Java libraries that would enable me to directly read the files contained within the archive? I am thinking along the lines of ZipFile.getInputStream(). Unfortunately, ZipFile doesn't work for this use case since its constructors require a standalone ZIP file. For performance reasons, I cannot copy the ZIP achive into a separate file before opening it. edit: Just to be clear, I do have random access to the file.

  • encoding of =1 in emails

    - by Maenny
Hi folks, I have probably a stupid problem. In a script I generate a URL with GET parameters, something like 'www.mydomain.com/index.php?item=1234'. This URL will be sent by PHP through mail() in an UTF-8 encoding (the scriptfile itself also is utf-8). Now each time I have the GET-Parameter with two numbers after the '=' the URL in the email looks like 'www.mydomain.com/index.php?item?34' with a rectangle instead of '=12'. I am sure there is an easy way to fix this? Thanks in advance, Maenny

  • Using named_scope with counts of child models

    - by Joe Cairns
Hi, I have a simple parent object having many children. I'm trying to figure out how to use a named scope for bringing back just parents with specific numbers of children. Is this possible? class Foo < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :bars named_scope :with_no_bars, ... # count of bars == 0 named_scope :with_one_bar, ... # count of bars == 1 named_scope :with_more_than_one_bar, ... # count of bars > 1 end class Bar < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :foo end I'm hoping to do something like Foo.with_one_bar I could write methods on the parent class for something like this, but I'd rather have the power of the named scope

  • Fastest way to zero out a 2d array in C?

    - by Eddy
    I want to repeatedly zero a large 2d array in C. This is what I do at the moment: for(j = 0; j < n; j++) { for(i = 0; i < n; i++) { array[i][j] = 0; } } I've tried using memset: memset(array, 0, sizeof(array)) But this only works for 1D arrays. When I printf the contents of the 2D array, the first row is zeroes, but then I got a load of random large numbers and it crashes.

  • Transform PDF to HTML, keep layout

    - by Tgr
What methods are there to transform a PDF to HTML? It could be anything - online service, software, library. (Opensource preferred. In the last case, php or python would be preferred.) It has to keep the original layout (including page numbers, footnotes and such), keep the images (combining them to one single background image per page is acceptable) and keep the links. It should preferably output valid XHTML and clean up PDF features such as ligatures, but if there is some post-processing required, I can live with that. Something with a clean, relatively semantic HTML output would be great. The closest one I found was zamzar.org, but it choked on links. (Also, the HTML output is an ugly heap of absolutely positioned divs and needs post-processing because of encoding problems.)

  • Python - Using "Google AJAX Search" API's Local Search Objects

    - by user330739
Hi! I've just started using Google's search API to find addresses and the distances between those addresses. I used geopy for this, but, I often had the problem of not getting the correct addresses for my queries. I decided to experiment, therefore, with Google's "Local Search" (http://code.google.com/apis/ajaxsearch/local.html). Anyway, I wanted to ask if I could use the "Local Search" objects provided by the API within python. Something tells me that I can't and that I have to use json. Does anyone know if there is a work around? PS: Im trying to make something like this: http://www.google.com/uds/samples/random/lead.html ... except a matrix type deal where the insides will be filled with distances between the addresses. Thanks for reading!

  • Bash or python for changing spacing in files

    - by Werner
Hi, I have a set of 10000 files. In all of them, the second line, looks like: AAA 3.429 3.84 so there is just one space (requirement) between AAA and the two other columns. The rest of lines on each file are completely different and correspond to 10 columns of numbers. Randomly, in around 20% of the files, and due to some errors, one gets BBB 3.429 3.84 so now there are two spaces between the first and second column. This is a big error so I need to fix it, changing from 2 to 1 space in the files where the error takes place. The first approach I thought of was to write a bash script that for each file reads the 3 values of the second line and then prints them with just one space, doing it for all the files. I wonder what do oyu think about this approach and if you could suggest something better, bashm python or someother approach. Thanks

  • Python and hebrew encoding/decoding error

    - by user340495
Hey, I have sqlite database which I would like to insert values in Hebrew to I am keep getting the following error : UnicodeDecodeError: 'ascii' codec can't decode byte 0xd7 in position 0: ordinal not in range(128) my code is as following : runsql(u'INSERT into personal values(%(ID)d,%(name)s)' % {'ID':1,'name':fabricate_hebrew_name()}) def fabricate_hebrew_name(): hebrew_names = [u'????',u'???',u'???',u'???',u'????',u'???',u'????',u'???',u'????',u'?????',u'????',u'???',u'????'] return random.sample(names,1)[0].encode('utf-8') note: runsql executing the query on the sqlite database fabricate_hebrew_name() should return a string which could be used in my SQL query. any help is much appreciated.

  • Comparing numeric strings

    - by Kiren Siva
From the question PHP Type-Juggling and (strict) Greater/Lesser Than Comparisons I know PHP interpret strings as numbers whenever it can. "10" < "1a" => 10 less than 1 expecting false "1a" < "2" => 1 less than 2 expecting true "10" > "2" => 10 greater than 2 expecting true But in the case of "10" < "1a" php returns true. I am not understanding the concept please help me to clarify it. Edit: But when I add "10" + "1a" it returns 11 that means php interprets "10" as 10 and "1a" as 1. Is that correct?

  • C# dealing with invalid user input

    - by Zka
Have a simple console app where user is asked for several values to input. Input is read via console.readline(). Ex Name: Fred //string Lastname: Ashcloud //string Age: 28 //int I would like to make sure that int and double types are entered and if the user enters garbage, lets him repeat the procedure. Example, if the user enters "28 years old" where age expects int the app will crash. What is the best way to check for these inputs? Right now I can only think of: while (!Int32.TryParse(text, out number)) { Console.WriteLine("Error write only numbers"); text = Console.ReadLine(); } Is there any other way to do this? try catch statements if one wants to give a more detailed feedback to the user? How in that case?
