  • How do I remotely deploy a software package on Linux system?

    I have a software package I wrote in Mono and I want to be able to deploy it to Ubuntu server as part of my move to continuous integration and deployment work flow. I was wondering if there is a tool to help me do that, some of the tasks I will need is Register a new domain/hostname with linux Install packaegs using apt-et Copy files Run some bash scripts What are the solutions to streamline this process to automate, I understand that is more then one answer to this, I would love to hear all the methods pros and cons.   • LINQ to SQL -- Can't modify return type of stored procedure.

    When I drag a particular stored procedure into the VS 2008 dbml designer, it shows up with Return Type set to "none", and it's read only so I can't change it. The designer code shows it as returning an int, and if I change that manually, it just gets undone on the next build. But with another (nearly identical) stored procedure, I can change the return type just fine (from "Auto Generated Type" to what I want.) I've run into this problem on two separate machines. Any idea what's going on?   • "Out of Memory" error in Lotus Notes automation from VBA

    This VBA function sporadically fails with a Notes automation error "Run-Time Error '7' Out of Memory". Naturally, when I try to manually reproduce it, everything runs fine. Function ToGMT(ByVal X As Date) As Date Static NtSession As NotesSession If NtSession Is Nothing Then Set NtSession = New NotesSession NtSession.Initialize End If (do stuff) End function To put this in context, this VBA function is being called by an Access query, 3-4 times per record, with 20,000 records. For performance reasons, the NotesSession has been made static. Any ideas why it is sporadically giving an out-of-memory error? (Also, I'm initiating the NotesSession just so I can convert a datetime to GMT using Lotus's rules. If you know a better way, I'm listening).

    Hello guys, i want to create a text field that will be for date and will have dd.mm.YYYY format. Now what i want to do is the user to type only the numbers, not the dots to. So the field would be like: _ _. _ _ . _ _ _ _ So when the user wants to type the date: 15.05.2010 for example, he will only type the numbers in the sequence 15052010. Also i would like, when he preses on left or right arrow, the cursor to go from one field(not JTextField, but field in the JTextField). So lets say i have JTextField with text in it: 15.05.2010, so if user is on the beginning and he preses right arrow, the cursor to go to the .05 field. I hope you understand me 'cos right now i don't any idea how to make this, or at least how to look for it on google. Thank you.

    How do I list all the commands in my path which are shadowed by other commands? E.g., if I have /bin/foo, /bin/bar, /usr/local/bar and /usr/bin/foo, I want to see something like foo in /bin shadows /usr/bin bar in /bin shadows /usr/local/bin I guess I can throw together something based on ls and comm, but I would much prefer something out of the box, especially bash-based (it would also be nice if aliases and functions were searched too, but that is not too important).

    Occasionally , we have to write methods that receive many many arguments , for example : public void doSomething(Object objA , Object objectB ,Date date1 ,Date date2 ,String str1 ,String str2 ) { } When I encounter this kind of problem , I often encapsulate arguments into a map. Map<Object,Object> params = new HashMap<Object,Object>(); params.put("objA",ObjA) ; ...... public void doSomething(Map<Object,Object> params) { // extracting params Object objA = (Object)params.get("objA"); ...... } This is not a good practice , encapsulate params into a map is totally a waste of efficiency. The good thing is , the clean signature , easy to add other params with fewest modification . what's the best practice for this kind of problem ?

  • Where are the really high quality and complex Swing components?

    Looking at Swing, I have the feeling that it comes with many useful and reasonable atomic components in its core. And when I look at the Web there are hundrets of quickly plugged together components (among them many date/time pickers, pimped lists and tables), which have in common that I could easily write them on my own, if I needed them. When I build big software and come to the point where I need a domain-specific component which is really big, I mostly come to the point where I have to write it on my own, which, due to the point that they are not just plugged together lists and tables, isn't done qickly. So, the question is, why are there no Swing component galleries which contain more than just customized date/time pickers or lists with added tree support. Where are the components which really raise the level of abstraction, or are in best case domain-specific?

I need to check to see where the time period falls in a 2 year period broken into two lots of quarters then display what quarters each record falls into. Quarter 1 includes June 09, Jul 09, Aug 09 Quarter 2 includes Sept 09, Oct 09, Nov 09 Quarter 3 includes Dec 09, Jan 10, Feb 10 Quarter 4 includes Mar 10, Apr 10, May 10 Quaretr 5 includes Jun 10, Jul 10... e.g. 01/10/09 - 01/06/10 would fall into quarters 2, 3, 4 & 5 I am very new to .NET so any examples would be much appreciated.

    AFAIK JSR-303 is the standard bean validation system. I don't know whether it could do validations like this (I guess no): if an object has a deleted flag set, you cannot modify the object you cannot change the start date property, after the date is passed you cannot decrease some integer properties in the bean So how can I handle validations, which depend on the previous state of an object? I would like to solve problems like that in hibernate3.5 - spring3 - JPA2 environment. Thanks My solution was to mess with hibernate, reload the object to see the old state (after evicting the new object). This time I need some smarter solution...

  • What is the best way to make a schedule in MFC

    I have a list of items that are each associated with a start and end time and date. What I want to do is, given a time and date range, display only the items that fall within that window, even partially. What I'm doing is creating a CListCtrl with all the items in it and the CListCtrl is sorted by start time by default. But given a time range, I don't know how to search for the first item that is within the range. Another problem with the list control is it displays as a list, whereas it would be nice if there was a control that could also show things that are concurrent side by side. I'm doing this within a dialog application.

    I have a datagridview in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings. How can I get SQL Server to return the correct counts? All fields are mandatory.

  • Building Debian package - pre-installation check

    I am building a custom Debian package and during the installation, I would like the package to check for available diskspace and only proceed if there is enough space. I would like this to happen during re-install as well. I tried adding bash code to do the check in preinst and prerm file(for re-installations) with exit 1 if the check fails, but the installer went ahead and copied files and I end up with a broke installation. What am I doing wrong?

    I'm new to Scala and Lift, coming from a slightly odd background in PLT Scheme. I've done a quick search on this topic and found lots of questions but no answers. I'm probably looking in the wrong place. I've been working my way through tutorials on using Mapper to create database-backed objects, and I've hit a stumbling block: what types should be used to stored optional attribute values. For example, a simple ToDo object might comprise a title and an optional deadline (e.g. http://rememberthemilk.com). The former would be a MappedString, but the latter could not be a MappedDateTime since the type constraints on the field require, say, defaultValue to return a Date (rather than a Date or null/false/???). Is an underlying NULL handled by the MappedField subclasses? Or are there optional equivalents to things like MappedInt, MappedString, MappedDateTime that allow the value to be NULL in the database? Or am I approaching this in the wrong way?

    I'm using a flash rotating banner in my website which takes images and descriptions from an XML file. I do changes to my XML very often... but in my local machine, the banner takes a day or two to get updated. Although I can clear my local machine's cache, the problem still remains for other users who visit my web page.. is there a programmatic way in flash or in html to overcome this problem ? Maybe a server configuration? Please help me with this..     When working with files on my mac I employ a mixed approach of shell/finder or keyboard/mouse, similar to working with 4NT and Explorer on Windows. One thing I use(d) extensively on Windows is to copy the path of the current directory to the clipboard. This is an extended feature of TakeCommand by JPSoft, on Windows. Is there a way to copy the current path from the bash shell to the mac's clipboard, so I can use it in 'file open' and/or similar dialogues?
