Gigantic Tabs in Eclipse on Ubuntu

Short version: How do I make a short version of Eclipse's tabs & toolbars in Ubuntu? I've been looking around for a fix to this on Google, but to no avail. With any GTK theme, I still have this same issue and it's very, very annoying--to the point where I've stopped using Eclipse in favor of gEdit. However, after running pylint from a terminal too. many. times. I've decided I need to find a solution to this issues with Eclipse so I can have PyDev back. Here's what the tabs look like: As you can see, not only are the tabs exaggerated, but the toolbar is, too: so is the toolbar on the bottom; so are the tabs in the bottom pane. Overall, it's eating up a lot of screen space, which is a hard item to come by on a 17" screen. Any suggestions/fixes?

C code autocomplete in Eclipse

Hi, I'm a Java developer and I've downloaded the Eclipse for C (course purposes) and to my amazement the control+space shortcut (for autocomplete) did not work. I've created a new project and a new class using the wizzards and started to type "print" and then tried to find an autocomplete feature. After a bit of googling I arrived at C/C++-Editor-Content Assist-Advanced and there I verified that Help proposals,Parsing-based proposals and Template proposals options were checked. I then went over to the Keys preferences page using the link at that page and entered a binding for all relevant content assist from before C\C++ Content Assist (type...) and chose in the When box the C\C++ Editor option. But alas no autocompletion was offered. Can someone please point me to the right direction? Thanks, Ittai

Hi, I have a layout with an ImageView defined like: <ImageView android:layout_width="45dip" android:layout_height="45dip" android:scaleType="fitXY" /> now I just want to set the imageview to be a static color, like red or green. I'm trying: ColorDrawable cd = new ColorDrawable("FF0000"); cd.setAlpha(255); ImageView iv = ...; iv.setImageDrawable(cd); the imageview is just empty though, no color. The 45dip space is being used up though. What do I need to do to get the color to be rendered? Thanks

How to make an ISO copy of Linux-filesystem and user files of VPS Debian based?

Hello! I have a Debian-Based VPS on some hosting. I want to migrate from it and i need to make a full copy of all Linux-filesystem (and installed packages) + all home directory with website files. And then pack/convert it to ISO image so that to use it on cloud hostings like Amazon. The problem is that i have only ssh root access. Hosting support can't do that for me. Another part of the question - is it possible to enlarge the Linux-filesystem by not re-installing it and using the free space of home directory? Is it possible to do? I guess it is possible with rsync or something like that. Will my Mysql databes copy together with all other data? Thanks in advance!

emacs indentation in asm mode

I am looking for the equivalent of c-indent-level and ruby-indent-level, for asm-mode. That is, I want to force the indentation to 4 spaces, and I want them to be replaced with blanks. What I've seen tells me it does not exist for asm-mode. Could someone please tell me this is wrong? Connecting to multiple firebird Databases via Delphi

I am integrating a system with 2 other applications, 1 using a Firebird database whilst the other BIS (using ADO). My delphi application uses Firebird. I need to read data from my database, insert it into both the BIS database and the other application firebird database. I have created seperate data modules for each. Sending data to the ADO works fine, but when writing to the other Firebird DB (my db still open) I get strange errors. I have managed to isolate the problem to the second firebird DB. Small data writes seems fine. The data structures are completly different, so un able to use a synch tool. is there a way to overcome this by using multi threading or seperate memory space each Firebird instance uses?

How to wrap text of html button with fixed width

I just noticed that if you give a html button a fixed width, the text inside the button is never wrapped. I've tried it with word-wrap, but that cuts of the word even though there are spaces available to wrap on. Searching a set of data with multiple terms using Linq

I'm in the process of moving from ADO.NET to Linq. The application is a directory search program to look people up. The users are allowed to type the search criteria into a single textbox. They can separate each term with a space, or wrap a phrase in quotes such as "park place" to indicate that it is one term. Behind the scenes the data comes from a XML file that has about 90,000 records in it and is about 65 megs. I load the data into a DataTable and then use the .Select method with a SQL query to perform the searches. The query I pass is built from the search terms the user passed. I split the string from the textbox into an array using a regular expression that will split everything into a separate element that has a space in it. However if there are quotes around a phrase, that becomes it's own element in the array. I then end up with a single dimension array with x number of elements, which I iterate over to build a long query. I then build the search expression below: query = query & _ "((userid LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(nickname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(lastname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(firstname LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(department LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(telephoneNumber LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(email LIKE '" & tempstr & "%') OR " & _ "(Office LIKE '" & tempstr & "%'))" Each term will have a set of the above query. If there is more than one term, I put an AND in between, and build another query like above with the next term. I'm not sure how to do this in Linq. So far, I've got the XML file loading correctly. I'm able to search it with specific criteria, but I'm not sure how to best implement the search over multiple terms. So partial matches don't work. It looks like what I'd want to use is the .Startswith but that appears to be only in Linq2SQL. Any guidance would be appreciated. Greeting All, I want to achieve transparent persistence of Java objects through memory-mapped files (utilize the OS paging/swapping mechanism). My problem is: how can I move a Java object to my memory-mapped block ? Plus, how can I force a new object instance to reside in such blocks ? As you all know, a memory-mapped block can be seen as a byte array, and what I am really asking here is how to overlap the address space of Java objects with the one of such arrays ? how does NTFS actually work with B-tree ?

To improve performance, NTFS directories use a special data management structure called a B-tree. "B-tree" concept here refers to a "tree of storage units" that hold the contents of an individual directory. What I don't understand is where on the disk is this tree stored? Its surely not created every-time we reboot...that would take lots of time. and since its a tree(dynamic Data structure) unlike arrays it will grow. so space needs to be allocated every-time it grows. so how is this "dynamic meta-data" stored ?

Why does my Windows Form app timeout when repeatedly hitting IIS 7 externally?

hey guys, I've got a very simple Windows Form app that hits an IIS 7 site about 2000 times in the space of a few seconds (using threads). When I run that app on the server itself, using either localhost or the ip address, everything is totally fine. However, when I run the app on my dev box, using the ip address, I get an error from the "GetResponse" method: The operation has timed out The App can definitely connect to the site, because it consistently either starts throwing the timeout error after 10 or so hits (no more than 11), or it throws the timeout error immediately. What's going on? It's hitting IIS 7 on a Windows Server 2008 VM (external box), Windows Firewall is OFF. My App is running locally on my dev box as the admin. cheers

MySQL - How To Avoid Repair With Keycache?

I have had some experience with optimizing the my.cnf file but my database has around 4 million records (MyISAM). I am trying to restore from a mysqldump but every time I do I eventually get the dreaded "Repair With Keycache", that may take days. Is there anyway to get past this and let it roll as "Repair By Sorting"? I have 2GB RAM, Dual Cores, lots of extra hard-drive space. Create an autocompleter like the Facebook status update

Currently I'm just playing with keypress and check if the keycode = 64. Somehow that works, but it doesn't validate if there's a space before the alfa, or if the user has unfocused the box, then focused it again. Any ideas? jCarousel, IE6 and Fixed Width

We are using jCarousel on our websites to display images. Simple enough. We have fairly flexible layouts so the carousels are not always the same width. FF, IE7+, Chrome, Safari etc work perfectly well taking up the space available. However IE6 ends up sending the jCarousel script into a loop and warns that a script is stopping the page from loading correctly. To stop IE6 from failing we are having to specify a fixed width in CSS for the carousel container. Is this a problem that others have had with IE6 and jCarousel?

In c#, each thread has its own stack space. If this is the case, why is the following code not thread-safe? (It is stated that this code is thread-safe on this post: Locking in C# class Foo { private int count = 0; public void TrySomething() { count++; } } As count is an int (stack variable), surely this value would be isolated to an individual thread, on its own stack, and therefore thread-safe? I am probably missing something here, but I dont understand what is actually in Thread Local Storage if not stack-based variables for the thread?

Simple but efficient way to store a series of small changes to an image?

I have a series of images. Each one is typically (but not always) similar to the previous one, with 3 or 4 small rectangular regions updated. I need to record these changes using a minimum of disk space. The source images are not compressed, but I would like the deltas to be compressed. I need to be able to recreate the images exactly as input (so a lossy video codec is not appropriate.) I am thinking of something along the lines of: Composite the new image with a negative of the old image Save the composited image in any common format that can compress using RLE (probably PNG.) Recreate the second image by compositing the previous image with the delta. Although the images have an alpha channel, I can ignore it for the purposes of this function. Is there an easy-to-implement algorithm or free Java library with this capability?

Variable height header with scrollable content area filling remaining viewport area

I've seen versions of this simple problem raised a dozen times here and elsewhere on the web, but I haven't seen a solution that works for me yet so I'm asking it again. I want a webpage with a variable height full width header (height based on contents). Below that I want a content area that fills the rest of the browser viewport. If the content is larger than the remaining space in the viewport then I want the content area to scroll. I don't need this to work on IE6. I don't care whether the solution uses CSS, tables or a mixture of the two, just no frames and no Javascript. For a bonus point fix a variable height footer to the bottom of the page.

The address The separator (current situation requires 2 spaces but this might be a comma or a space followed by a comma) or something else (it varies). The address part I want to return (i don't always need all parts of the split result). I seem to be able to find a few examples of splitting functions about the internet but they return a table containing the entire set of split parts. My SQL skills aren't that great so I need the answer to be ultra simple. I'm always working with nvarchar data and the function needs to be reusable.

Select points on a map

I am just beginning design work on a problem that I'm sure has been solved before. In a web based application, I need to: a) present a map b) place a set of points (map-pins) on the map c) allow the user at his browser to draw a simple closed curve on the map with his mouse d) send the path of that curve back to the server e) on the server, select from the set of points those that are within the closed curve. What are the best API's to use for this problem? mdadm: Win7-install created a boot partition on one of my RAID6 drives. How to rebuild?

My problem happened when I attempted to install Windows 7 on it's own SSD. The Linux OS I used which has knowledge of the software RAID system is on a SSD that I disconnected prior to the install. This was so that windows (or I) wouldn't inadvertently mess it up. However, and in retrospect, foolishly, I left the RAID disks connected, thinking that windows wouldn't be so ridiculous as to mess with a HDD that it sees as just unallocated space. Boy was I wrong! After copying over the installation files to the SSD (as expected and desired), it also created an ntfs partition on one of the RAID disks. Both unexpected and totally undesired! . I changed out the SSDs again, and booted up in linux. mdadm didn't seem to have any problem assembling the array as before, but if I tried to mount the array, I got the error message: mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/md0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so dmesg: EXT4-fs (md0): ext4_check_descriptors: Block bitmap for group 0 not in group (block 1318081259)! EXT4-fs (md0): group descriptors corrupted! I then used qparted to delete the newly created ntfs partition on /dev/sdd so that it matched the other three /dev/sd{b,c,e}, and requested a resync of my array with echo repair > /sys/block/md0/md/sync_action This took around 4 hours, and upon completion, dmesg reports: md: md0: requested-resync done. A bit brief after a 4-hour task, though I'm unsure as to where other log files exist (I also seem to have messed up my sendmail configuration). This is what I suggest I should attempt to do: Tell mdadm that /dev/sdd (the one that windows wrote into) isn't reliable anymore, pretend it is newly re-introduced to the array, and reconstruct its content based on the other three drives. I also could be totally wrong in my assumptions, that the creation of the ntfs partition on /dev/sdd and subsequent deletion has changed something that cannot be fixed this way. My question: Help, what should I do? If I should do what I suggested , how do I do that? From reading documentation, etc, I would think maybe: mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --set-faulty /dev/sdd mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --remove /dev/sdd mdadm --manage /dev/md0 --re-add /dev/sdd However, the documentation examples suggest /dev/sdd1, which seems strange to me, as there is no partition there as far as linux is concerned, just unallocated space. Maybe these commands won't work without. Maybe it makes sense to mirror the partition table of one of the other raid devices that weren't touched, before --re-add. Something like: sfdisk -d /dev/sdb | sfdisk /dev/sdd Bonus question: Why would the Windows 7 installation do something so st...potentially dangerous?
