• "Don't Allow" in LocationManager keeps logging errors

  I have an app that checked for location. It asks the user to use location and if the user says no on the menu there is an issue when i load the mapview. Once i select the mapView it asks for the user location again. If the user says no again my console keeps displaying errors/warning as well as my NSLog from the "didFailWithError" of my location Manager class. Is there a way of stopping the LocationManage:didFailWithErrors if the user has already said no? • PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists is very slow if category doesn't exists

  I have kind of library which uses a bunch of its own perf counters. But I want my library works fine even if that perf counters weren't installed. So I've created wrappers aroung PerformanceCounter and on the first use check if PerfCounter exists or not. If they exists then I'm using native PerformanceCounter instead I'm using a wrapper which do nothing. So to check perf counter existence I use PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists The problem is that if there isn't such category then PerformanceCounterCategory.Exists call takes (on my machine) about 10 seconds! Needless to say it's too slow. What can I do? • Problem extracting text from RSS feeds

  Hi, I am new to the world of Ruby and Rails. I have seen rails cast 190 and I just started playing with it. I used selector gadget to find out the CSS and XPath I have the following code.. require 'rubygems' require 'nokogiri' require 'open-uri' url = "http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rss" doc = Nokogiri::HTML(open(url)) doc.xpath('//a').each do |paragraph| puts paragraph.text end When I extracted text from a normal HTML page with css, I could get the extracted text on the console. But when I try to do the same either with CSS or XPath for the RSS Feed for the following URL mentioned in the code above, I dont get any output. How do you extract text from RSS feeds?? I also have another silly question.   Hi We're using the castle scheduler component: http://using.castleproject.org/display/Comp/Castle.Components.Scheduler?showChildren=false I have a wcf service which creates the tasks and that does it's job fine. I then have a console app running (will be a windows service eventually) which should then keep an eye out for tasks to run. Thing is the each create their own scheduler in the DB but they both have the same clusterid. Should the console app be able to run the tasks created by the wcf service? • Java split giving opposite order of arabic characters

  I am splitting the following string using \\| in java (android) using the IntelliJ 12 IDE. Everything is fine except the last part, somehow the split picks them up in the opposite order : As you can see the real positioning 34,35,36 is correct and according to the string, but when it gets picked out into split part no 5 its in the wrong order, 36,35,34 ... Any way I can get them to be in the right order? • LNK2001: What have I forgotton to set?

  Following on from my previous question regarding debugging of native code, I decided to create a simple test from a console app as I wasn't getting anywhere with debugging the service directly. So I created a vc6 console app, added the dll project to the workspace and ran it. Instead of executing as expected it spat out the following linker errors: main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "int __stdcall hmDocumentLAdd(char *,char *,long,char *,char *,long,long,long,long *)" (?hmDocumentLAdd@@YGHPAD0J00JJJPAJ@Z) main.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "int __stdcall hmGetDocBasePath(char *,long)" (?hmGetDocBasePath@@YGHPADJ@Z) Debug/HazManTest.exe : fatal error LNK1120: 2 unresolved externals This seems to be a simple case of forgetting something in the linker options: However everything seems to be normal, and the lib file, dll and source is available. If I change the lib file to load to nonsense it kicks up the fatal error LNK1104: cannot open file "asdf.lib", so that isn't a problem. I have previously linked to dll and they have just worked, so what I have forgotton to do?

  I have a DOS batch file that show some results on the cmd console. I want users to press Enter to run program or press any other key on the keyboard to exit. I don't want to use options/choices because in that case user will have to enter at least something which I need to check and set the action. Example: At the end of the cmd console something say like this Press ENTER to open abc.exe or press any key on the keyboard to exit! Thanks!

  I built a Visual Studio 2008 setup Project wich depends on .NET 3.5. I added Prerequisites like: .NET 3.5, Microsoft office interoperability, VS tools for office System 3.0 Run time, .etc. After that Selected "Download Prerequisite from Same location as my application" in Specify install location for Prerequisite. I Built the setup and found mysetup.msi in Release directory. In a new machine I started fresh installation of my application. A dialog shows like this "This Setup Requires .NET framework 3.5 , Please install .NET setup then run this setup, .NET Framework can be obtained from web Do you want to do that now?" it gives "Yes" and "No" option - if I press yes it goes to Microsoft website. How can avoid it? I wanted setup take .NET Framework to be installed from same location where I put all setup files including mysetup.msi? In case of quiet installation cmd /c "msiexec /package mysetup.msi /quiet /log install.log" ..in log I can see only half way through installation then error Property(S): HideFatalErrorForm = TRUE MSI (s) (D0:24) [00:07:08:015]: Product: my product-- Installation failed. === Logging stopped: 3/23/2010 0:07:08 === How can complete I the installation without user intervention and without error using VS2008 setup project? • Delphi App has "No Debug Info" when Debugging

  We have built an application that uses packages and components. When we debug the application, the "Event Log" in the IDE often shows the our BPLs are being loaded without debug information ("No Debug Info"). This doesn't make sense because all our packages and EXEs are built with debug. _(each project) | Options | Compiling_ [ x ] Assertions [ x ] Debug information [ x ] Local symbols Symbol reference info = "Reference info" [ ] Use debug .dcus [ x ] Use imported data references _(each project) | Options | Linking_ [ x ] Debug information Map file = Detailed We have 4 projects, all built with runtime pacakges: Core.bpl Components.bpl Plugin.bpl (uses both #1 & #2) MainApp.exe (uses #1) Problems Observed 1) Many times when we debug, the Components.bpl is loaded with debug info, but all values in the "Local Variables" window are blank. If you hover your mouse over a variable in the code, there is no popup, and Evaluate window also shows nothing (the "Result" pane is always blank). 2) Sometimes the Event Log shows "No Debug Info" for various BPLs. For instance, if we activate the Plugin.bpl project and set it's Run | Parameter's Host Application to be the MainApp.exe, and then press F9, all modules seems to load with "Has Debug Info" except for the Plugin.bpl module. When it loads, the Event Log shows "No Debug Info". However, if we close the app and immediately press F9, it will run it again without recompiling anything and this time Plugin.bpl is loaded with debug ("Has Debug Info"). Questions 1) What would cause the "Local Variables" window to not display the values? 2) Why are BPLs sometimes loaded without debug info when the BPL was complied with debug and all the debug files (dcu, map, etc.) are available?

  I have to write a C# application that runs on WindowsME. Yes, I mean that Microsoft operating system that has been forgotten a long long time ago. My program needs no user interaction and as WindowsME doesn't support services, it will be a console application. Furthermore it will be used on more modern operating systems, where the user can choose whether to start it as console application or install it as a windows service. Now suppose the software is running on WinME and the user decides to logoff or shutdown the machine without a prior quit of my software. WinME complains about my program still running and asks if it should kill the process. Apart from the bad user experiance, this means that the application is not shut down properly. So I look for a way to be informed if the user logs off or wants to shutdown the machine to be able to perform a proper shutdown of my software first.

• Targeted Simplify in Mathematica

  I generate very long and complex analytic expressions of the general form: (...something not so complex...)(...ditto...)(...ditto...)...lots... When I try to use Simplify, Mathematica grinds to a halt, I am assuming due to the fact that it tries to expand the brackets and or simplify across different brackets. The brackets, while containing long expressions, are easily simplified by Mathematica on their own. Is there some way I can limit the scope of Simplify to a single bracket at a time? Edit: Some additional info and progress. So using the advice from you guys I have now started using something in the vein of In[1]:= trouble = Log[(x + I y) (x - I y) + Sqrt[(a + I b) (a - I b)]]; In[2]:= Replace[trouble, form_ /; (Head[form] == Times) :> Simplify[form],{3}] Out[2]= Log[Sqrt[a^2 + b^2] + (x - I y) (x + I y)] Changing Times to an appropriate head like Plus or Power makes it possible to target the simplification quite accurately. The problem / question that remains, though, is the following: Simplify will still descend deeper than the level specified to Replace, e.g. In[3]:= Replace[trouble, form_ /; (Head[form] == Plus) :> Simplify[form], {1}] Out[3]= Log[Sqrt[a^2 + b^2] + x^2 + y^2] simplifies the square root as well. My plan was to iteratively use Replace from the bottom up one level at a time, but this clearly will result in vast amount of repeated work by Simplify and ultimately result in the exact same bogging down of Mathematica I experienced in the outset. Is there a way to restrict Simplify to a certain level(s)? I realize that this sort of restriction may not produce optimal results, but the idea here is getting something that is "good enough".

The console displays 'undefined' in the above example. This may be a simple question, but I am trying to teach myself query and this has me stuck.. Any answers would be great. Thanks.

• Parallel For Loop - Problems when adding to a List - Possible .Net Bugs

  I am having some issues involving Parallel for loops and adding to a List. The problem is, the same code may generate different output at different times. I have set up some test code below. In this code, I create a List of 10,000 int values. 1/10th of the values will be 0, 1/10th of the values will be 1, all the way up to 1/10th of the values being 9. After setting up this List, I setup a Parallel for loop that iterates through the list. If the current number is 0, I add a value to a new List. After the Parallel for loop completes, I output the size of the list. The size should always be 1,000. Most of the time, the correct answer is given. However, I have seen 3 possible incorrect outcomes occur: The size of the list is less than 1,000 An IndexOutOfRangeException occurs @ doubleList.Add(0.0); An ArgumentException occurs @ doubleList.Add(0.0); The message for the ArgumentException given was: Destination array was not long enough. Check destIndex and length, and the array's lower bounds. What could be causing the errors? Is this a .Net bug? Is there something I can do to prevent this from happening? Please try the code for yourself. If you do not get an error, try it a few times.   I have a default amazon ec2 instance with 8GB root volume size. I am running out of space. I have: Detach the current EBS volume in AWS Management Console (Web). Create snapshot of this volume. Created a new Volume with 50G space with my snapshot. Attach the new volume back to the instance to /dev/sda1 However, when I reconnect to the account with: > df -h I can see from the management console that my new Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/xvda1 8256952 8173624 0 100% / tmpfs 308508 40 308468 1% /dev/shm It's still not using my new volume's size, how to make this work?

When I tried it on Windows(Windows 7, "runas other user", smartcard login), it chokes too while PVC cards and AT24C01 report immediate failure.

• What is the performance penalty of XML data type in SQL Server when compared to NVARCHAR(MAX)?

  I have a DB that is going to keep log entries. One of the columns in the log table contains serialized (to XML) objects and a guy on my team proposed to go with XML data type rather than NVARCHAR(MAX). This table will have logs kept "forever" (archiving some very old entries may be considered in the future). I'm a little worried about the CPU overhead, but I'm even more worried that DB can grow faster (FoxyBOA from the referenced question got 70% bigger DB when using XML). I have read this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/514827/microsoft-sql-server-2005-2008-xml-vs-text-varchar-data-type and it gave me some ideas but I am particulairly interrested in clarification on whether the DB size increases or decreases. Can you please share your insight/experiences in that matter. BTW. I don't currently have any need to depend on XML features within SQL Server (there's nearly zero advantage to me in the specific case). Ocasionally log entries will be extracted, but I prefer to handle the XML using .NET (either by writing a small client or using a function defined in a .NET assembly).

• Simple time profiling - strange times

  I'm trying to profile my code to check how long it takes to execute some parts of my code. I've wrapped my most time-consuming part of the code in something like that: DateTime start = DateTime.Now; ... ... // Here comes the time-consuming part ... Console.WriteLine((DateTime.Now - start).Miliseconds); The program is executing this part of code for couple of seconds (about 20 s) but in console I get the result of something about 800 miliseconds. Why is that so? What am I doing wrong?

JSON.parse('"\u0022"') // Escaped double-quote JSON.parse('"\u005C"') // Escaped backslash RFC 4627 section 2.5 seems to imply that \ and " are allowed characters as long as they're properly escaped. The 2 browsers I've tried this in don't seem to allow it, however. Is there something I'm doing wrong here or are they really not allowed in strings? I've also tried using \" and \\ in place of \u0022 and \u005C respectively. I feel like I'm just doing something very wrong, because I find it hard to believe that JSON would not allow these characters in strings, especially since the specification doesn't seem to mention anything that I could find saying they're not allowed.

  Hi all, I'm trying to set up a simple login using AuthLogic into my User table. Every time I try, the login fails and I don't know why. • Visual Studio CLR project

  Hi, so I wanted to try my first CLR project in Visual C++. So I created console project, but since every tutorial I found about CLR programming was using C#, or windows forms, I just tried writing standart c++ Hello Word app using iostream (I think code isnt needed in this case) but I though it will give me some compile error, since iostream uses precompiled functions, and CLR app compiles into MSIL. I assumed that CLR programming using C++ means just using C++ syntax, but different functions for I/O and so. So, basicly, what I want to ask is, can any native console C++ app be compiled into MSIL and run by .NET framework?
