A thread is the basic unit to which the operating system allocates processor time. A thread can execute any part of the process code, including parts currently being executed by another thread.   • Third party Application's Idle Session expiry

    We have a third party application running. It shows login dialog when idle for 20 minutes. We need to prevent the application to display login screen. We do not have any idea how idle state is handled internally in that application. We have done the follwoing with no luck. Created an small application in c# which focus it after every 5 minutes (using SetForegroundWindow()) and send a BM_CLICK message to one of its child window. Does not work. focus it after every 5 minutes (using SetForegroundWindow()) and move the cursor few pixels then restore cursor at its previous position. This does not work too! Is there any other way to achieve the goal?

    Might be my question is abstract or out of context, but i am asking here since i have little idea how this happens. I am wondering how big application/ platform break down there application in to multiple module and how they able to manage modules dependencies. For example in some E-commerce application they tend to break down it in various modules like pricing,promotions,shipping.import/export and many more. when we develop those application we hardly think about the underlying modules and how they have been designed to provides functionalists. Most of those module are not web-applications but are standalone module and not deployed in the web-app as jar files. can any one help me to understand how they break up things or is there any standard way to do this.any help/resources to get insight will really be helpful

  • Restoring and passing data to an already running instance of a .NET application

    The goal is to have an application that runs in the system tray and can either accept user input from its actual GUI (which isn't the actual issue) OR accept command line parameters (that would actually be done via a context menu in windows explorer). Now, while I'm aware that the command line parameters are not exactly possible once the application has started, I need a way to pass data to the already running application instance via some form of handler. I'm thinking maybe define and raise some sort of event? Thanks in advance.

    Can anyone recommend a good book on Javascript module/application development. I'm a Software Engineer, so I don't need all the intro to programming stuff. What I'm really looking for is: How do you bundle the html/css/javascript together so that you can make one include that will load the whole application. I.e.: <div id="myapplication"></div> ... ... <script src="myapplication.js"> Design patterns are always welcome. I've already read Javascript the good parts, and online guides, but it's hard to find a comprehensive guide/tutorial for specifically this. There's a lot of good "this is a javascript application" and "this is a scalable framework", but I haven't had any luck with "This is how you build a javascript application, including the html and css, and this is how you deliver it nicely". I'm building a small application to start, so I'm not interested in scalability and large-scale development practices, just a nice and comprehensive guide to get me off the ground.

In Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 the following features are being announced for deprecation in the next release or have been previously announced and are not being delivered with this version of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework: ·         No SQL Server Support – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with any support for SQL Server. ·         No MPL Support – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with the Multi-Purpose Listener (MPL) component of the XML Application Integration (XAI) component. Customers using the MPL should migrate to Oracle Service Bus. ·         No provided Crystal Reports/Business Objects Interface – Oracle Utilities Application Framework V4.2.0.0.0 or above does not ship with a supported Crystal Reports/Business Objects Interface. This facility is now available as downloadable customization for existing or new customers. Responsibility for maintenance and new features is now individual customer's responsibility. ·         XAI Servlet deprecation – The XAI Servlet (xaiserver and classicxai) will be removed in the next release of the Oracle Utilities Application Framework. Customers are encouraged to migrate to the native Web Services Support as outlined in XAI Best Practices whitepaper available from My Oracle Support (Doc Id: 942074.1). ·         ConfigLab deprecation – The ConfigLab facility will be removed in the next release of Oracle Utilities Application Framework for products it is shipped with.   • Windows Azure Root CAs and SSL Client Certificates

    I ran into some problems while trying to make SSL client certificates work for StarterSTS 1.5. In theory you have to do two things (via startup tasks): Unlock the SSL section in IIS Install all the root certificates for the client certs you want to accept I did that. But it still does not work. While inspecting the event log, I stumbled over an schannel error message that I’ve never seen before: “When asking for client authentication, this server sends a list of trusted certificate authorities to the client. The client uses this list to choose a client certificate that is trusted by the server. Currently, this server trusts so many certificate authorities that the list has grown too long. This list has thus been truncated. The administrator of this machine should review the certificate authorities trusted for client authentication and remove those that do not really need to be trusted.” WTF? And indeed standard Azure (web role) VMs trust 275 root CAs (see attached list). Including kinda obscure ones. I don’t really know why MS made this design decision. It seems just wrong (including breaking the SSL client cert functionality). Deleting like 60% of them made SSL client certs from my CA work.   • Got an idea for an application, but part of it is patented, any suggestions?

    Hi there, so I've been working on developing an idea for an application that I think has the potential to be successful, however after some initial research I've discovered that at least part of my ideas are covered by a patent out there, the patent in particular is held by a really large company (I don't want to give away specifics for fear I'd draw their attention for sure). I'm debating a few options: 1) Develop patents around my ideas that don't conflict and maybe approach the company in question for a license exchange 2) Just approach them for a license outright 3) Just develop around it anyways and hope for the best :-p What have other people done in these situations? Are companies generally willing to grant patent licenses? Are they willing to grant them at reasonable prices? Thoughts?

  • Can it be useful to build an application starting with the GUI?

    The trend in application design and development seems to be starting with the "guts": the domain, then data access, then infrastructure, etc. The GUI seems to usually come later in the process. I wonder if it could ever be useful to build the GUI first... My rationale is that by building at least a prototype GUI, you gain a better idea of what needs to happen behind the scenes, and so are in a better position to start work on the domain and supporting code. I can see an issue with this practice in that if the supporting code is not yet written, there won't be much for the GUI layer to actually do. Perhaps building mock objects or throwaway classes (somewhat like is done in unit testing) would provide just enough of a foundation to build the GUI on initially. Might this be a feasible idea for a real project? Maybe we could add GDD (GUI Driven Development) to the acronym stable...

  • How do I start a second console application in Visual Studio when one is already running

    Hi All, I am working through some examples in a WCF book. There is a Host project and Client project within a single solution. Both are console applications. The Host is the startup app, but the Client app doesn't seem to open the Console like the book says. Book says while the Host is running, run the Client. The Run button is disabled tho as it is already running. The book example definitely has them in the same solution and a single instance of Visual Studio. Anyways, what am I missing here? I have done this with two instances of VS, but I truly have never does this in a single instance. Any help is always appreciated. Cheers, ~ck in San Diego

  • How can a client try to reconnect to a server after a first failed try with WCF?

    Hey guys, I'm using a client - server app. When a client starts, he gets a login-screen. When the server is not up yet, the call to the server will throw an exception which i catch (EndpointNotFoundException). I show a messagebox telling the user the server is offline. When he tries to reconnect again, it will throw another exception (CommunicationObjectFaultedException), even though the server is online. When a new client starts then, he can connect to the server. But the client who attempted before, still gets the error. My question now is how can the first client login after a failed first try without having to start his program again. So i want to clear the communicationchannel of its faulted state or something like that. Thanks in advance.

    Scenario: blank win2008 r2 install the goal was to have a couple of sites running with isolated pool and dedicated users A new folder for a new website - c:\web\siteA\wwwroot, with the app (asp.net) deployed there in the /bin folder created a user named "appuser" and added it to the IIS_USERS group gave the website folder read and execute permissions for IIS_USERS and the appuser created the IIS site. set the app=pool identity to the appuser now I'm getting YSOD telling me that the trust-level is too low - SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers Added <trust level="Full" /> on the web-config, did not help changing the app-pool user to Administrator makes the site run Setting "anonymous user identity" to either IUSR or the app pool identity makes no difference any idea? is there a "step by step" howto guide for setting up users for isolated app pools on IIS7.5?

  • Where should executables be run from? Network share or client?

    We have an executable that is used by 50+ client machines on a network and upgraded regularly. Is it acceptable to put the executable on a network share and have the client machines run it from there via a shortcut on their desktop? That way when we upgrade the .exe we can simply replace the one file with a new one and all clients will be accessing the new one. How will a slow or unstable network handle this? If this is not acceptable, what would be the best way to keep all clients updated with the latest .exe?
