• Areas of support needed when attempting to roll out a new software system

  In general, I think most people tend to be resistant to new systems or even change because they fear the unknown. Change means that their normal routine will be interrupted until they can learn to conform to the new routine due to the fact that it has transformed to the old routine. In addition, the feeling of failure is also generates a resistance to change. Why would a worker want to move from a process that has worked successfully for them in the past? Their fears over shadow any benefits a change in a new system or business process will bring to their work life. Areas of support needed when attempting to roll out a new software system: Executive/Upper Management Support If there is no support from the top of an organization how will employees be supportive of the new system? Proper Training Employees need to train on a new system prior to its rollout. The more training employee’s receive on any new system will directly impact how comfortable they will be with the system and are more accepting of the change because they can see how the changes will benefit them. Employee Incentives One way to re-enforce the need for employees to use a new system is to offer incentives to ensure that the system will be used. Employee Discipline/Termination If employees are adamantly refusing to use the new system after several warnings then they need to be formally reprimanded.  If this does not work the employer is forced to replace the employees.

When file is in Unix format, I am converting it to Dos format in the initialization stage using System.Diagnostics.Process (.WaitForExit()). • Processes sharing cores on Ubuntu system

  My coworkers and I share an 8-core server running Ubuntu for our batch processes. I tend to run 4 processes at a time, each of which consumes 100% CPU per core when nothing else is running. When a coworker runs his processes (typically about 4 at a time), his also get 100% per. However, when both of us run ours (he always goes first), his still get 100% and mine seem to divide the remaining processing power and linger in the 10-40% range. I even reniced his process to a lower value and it did not change. What are the issues that may cause this?

  I have an ASP.NET web application with an Oracle back end. The worker process recycling in IIS is set for 40 minutes, and when that occurs, the Oracle server sets a mutex lock while it cleans up all of its open connections. During this cleanup (up to a few minutes in duration), all DB requests get a timeout. Is there a way for IIS to notify Oracle that a worker process recycle is about to occur, so Oracle can be smarter about how it cleans up its resources without locking the entire database?

  I usually work with a lot of instances of visual studio open to different projects, I was wondering if there is a way to snapshot/hibernate a running process to disk instead of closing it so that I can open it in the same state as it was quickly. I have a ton of free disk space so wouldn't mind saving the entire process snapshot if it would save me the time in opening up the solution and waiting for the projects to load.

  I've installed ELMAH 1.1 .Net 3.5 x64 in my ASP.NET project and now I'm getting this error (whenever I try to see any page): Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite, Version=1.0.61.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=db937bc2d44ff139' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SQLite, Version=1.0.61.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=db937bc2d44ff139' or one of its dependencies. My Active Solution platform is "Any CPU" and I'm running on a x64 Windows 7 on an x64, of course, processor. The reason why we are using this version of ELMAH is because 1.0 .Net 3.5 (x86, which is the only platform for which it's compiled) gave us this same error on our x64 Windows server. I've tried compiling for x86 and x64 and I get the same error. I've tried removing the all compiler output (bin and obj).   I am running a query using Linq2SQL that comes down to following query: DateTime? expiration = GetExpirationDate(); IQueryable<Persons> persons = GetPersons(); IQueryable<Items> subquery = from i in db.Items where i.ExpirationDate >= expiration select i; return persons.Where(p = p.Items != null && p.Items.Any(item => subquery.Contains(item))); When I evaluate the result of the function, I get a NullReferenceException and here's the stack trace.   I installed .NET 3.5 SP1 on server which previously had .NET 3.0 SP2. Before install site was working perfectly. After install and subsequeny server restart, site displays but anything that makes use of the WCF service has stopped working. The exception log reports exceptions like the following when any calls are made to the client proxy: The communication object, System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel, cannot be used for communication because it is in the Faulted state. The server's application event log gave the following errors after the install: Configuration section system.serviceModel.activation already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.runtime.serialization already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. Configuration section system.serviceModel already exists in c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Config\machine.config. which seems to be inline with the fact that anything WCF related has stopped working. • InstallShield 2010 with license - no license for automatic build system (CI) as Windows service

  I really need help here. We are using CI build-process (Hudson) as an automated build system using Msbuild. The CI run in Apache Tomcat 6 that run under the credentials of a domain user (not a local Windows user ). Every time the CI try to build an InstallShield project (using isproj files) we get a license error message: " C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : -7159: The product license has expired or has not yet been initialized. You must launch the IDE to configure the product license in order to proceed. C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : Exception Caught". If I log in to the same machine with the same domain user credentials and build the InstallShield project there is a license and it is working well. Adding the user to the local Users group doesn't help (no license). Adding the user to the local Administrators group helps and it is working. We do not want the user to be in the local Administrators group - for various reasons. What do I need to do to make it work? Do I need to add permissions to the use? Help will be highly appreciated.   I created an assembly containing WCF service code and dropped into another web project. When I try to invoke a service method, I get the following inner exception: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. Why this is happening? My newly created assembly lives inside the ASP.NET /bin folder along with other assemblies. At this level, should the database not know or care whether it is being called from a web service or from a normal call? How would it know that my assembly is foreign? How do I resolve this issue?

  I've just started learning VB.NET with VS 9.0; a small application I'm working on keeps returning an "A first chance exception of type System InvalidOperationException occurred in System Windows Forms dll" error from the Immediate Window. The application has almost zero functionality so far, it consists of a menu strip with: File About |Open |Save |Save As |Quit The only code I have written opens an Open File dialog, a Save As dialog, an About window with background sound and an OK button, and the Quit button which exits. Since there is almost no code for me to search through, I can't understand why there would be an error. The program runs just fine when I'm debugging it too.

  i hope i'm just doing something wrong here. Ideally i'm trying to open the connection, open a transaction execute a ton of prebuilt sqlstatements (with parameters) against this connection then close the connection. ideally all in the same batch. It's easy enough to wrap this all in a for loop, however i'd like to use the forEach function of the list generic to set the connection as it'll probably be faster than my implementation of calling List.Item(i) in the loop but i get some strange errors.   OK, Im trying to highlight keywords in a richtextbox, the problem is I've got the code to highlight only the visible text on textChanged event,so I tryed putting the code in the richtextbox VScroll, so when I scrolled up it would highlight the text that wasn't visible before, but every time I start to scroll I get this error: "An unhandled exception of type 'System.StackOverflowException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll" Does any one know why? Or maybe a way I could highlight the words while scrolling?
