  • Help Finding Memory Leak

    Hi all, I am writing an iPad app that downloads a rather large .csv file and parses the file into objects stored in Core Data. The program keeps crashing, and I've run it along with the Allocations performance tool and can see that it's eating up memory.     i'm having a difficult time understanding how to control the z property of display objects in a 3D space. i know how depth works, but what i don't understand is how i can get the maximum depth, or the number at which the display object just disappears into the background. i assume depth is based on the stage's width and height, and that is why assigning the same depth of the same display object appars mismatched with different stage sizes. so how can i appropriately measure depth?

I am planning to have the following layers: Presentation (PHP/Ajax) Business Logic Data Access Database Now I'd like to start sketching out the major objects in each layer and the interaction between layers. Is there a tool more specific to this purpose than just using a graphics/diagramming tool like Visio?

  • Factory Girl sequence fails under autospec

    I have this Factory: Factory.define :email_address do |e| e.sequence(:address) { |n| "factory_#{n}@example.com" } e.validated true end When I run my specs with rake spec, it works fine. When I run autospec, it fails right away, claiming that the email address is being used twice in two different objects (there is a validation which restricts this). Why is it behaving differently under autospec? Thanks, John

    I'm just curious as to the possibility of loading and executing elf files on OSX. I know the standard executable format is MACHO, but NASM is unable to generate debug information for MACHO objects (and I am required to use NASM). I imagine its a long shot, but I don't suppose I can use ELF files. I can build them with NASM, but I can't seem to even link them with LD.

  • Specification Pattern vs Spec in BDD

I'm getting that written specifications drive the tests in BDD, but also that business logic can be encapsulated using the specification pattern for re-use in domain objects and repositories, etc. Are these basically the same concept just used in different ways, used in conjunction together, or am I completely confusing the concepts? Please shed some light, if possible.

    Hi, I'm looking for a way to keep the equivalent of persistent global variables in app engine (python). What I'm doing is creating a global kind that I initialize once (i.e. when I reset all my database objects when I'm testing). I have things in there like global counters, or the next id to assign certain kinds I create. Is this a decent way to do this sort of thing or is there generally another approach that is used?

However, I couldn't get the linkbar to display a xmllist (I did indeed read that you cannot set a xmlllist as a linkbar dataprovider... ). So, I'm transforming the xmllist in a array of objects. Here is some code.     I have a SW which reside in external HDD, it will run automatically when user plug external HDD, of course, the SW have to close automatically when user unplug the external HDD. I can receive the device lost message, however my SW will not be respond druing releasing all objects, if I call exit(0) directly, the SW will show a crash message. Is there any way to quickly exit SW?

    I created a method to have multilingual text on different objects without creating field for each languages or tables for each objects types. Now the only problem I've got is N+1 select queries when doing a simple loading.     i wonder if HTML5 Web Storage will be cleared when browser clears its cache? if it did, many ppl like me may lose data if i accidentally clear cache? or like in this comment ... Since HTML5 local storage is kept separate from js cookies (like Silverlight, Gears, Flash), it opens up a world of 3rd party privacy issues for HTML5 as these objects will likely NOT get deleted with a clear cache or delete temporary data ... where web storage is not cleared, but leads to privacy issues?

  • SQL Server 2008 Cluster Installation - First network name always fails

    I'm testing failover clustering in Windows Server 2008 to host a SQL Server 2008 installation using this installation guide. My base cluster is installed and working properly, as well as clustering the DTC service. However, when it comes time to install SQL Server, my first attempt at installation always fails with the same message and seems to "taint" the network name. For example, with my previous cluster attempt, I was installing SQL Server as VSQL. After approximately 15 attempts of installation and trying to resolve the errors, e.g. changing domain accounts for SQL, setting SPNs, etc., I typoed the network name as VQSL and the installation worked. Similarly on my current cluster, I tried installing with the SQL service named PROD-C1-DB and got the same errors as last time until I tried changing the name to anything else, e.g. PROD-C1-DB1, SQL, TEST, etc., at which point the install works. It will even install to VSQL now. While testing, my install routine was: Run setup.exe from patched media, selecting appropriate options After the install fails, I'd chose "Remove node from a SQL Server failover cluster" and remove the single, failed, node Attempt to diagnose problem, inspect event logs, etc. Delete the computer account that was created for the SQL Service from Active Directory Delete the MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER folder from the shared data drive The error message I receive from the SQL Server installer is: The following error has occurred: The cluster resource 'SQL Server' could not be brought online. Error: The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007139F) Along with hundreds of the following errors in the Application event log: [sqsrvres] checkODBCConnectError: sqlstate = 28000; native error = 4818; message = [Microsoft][SQL Server Native Client 10.0][SQL Server]Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. System configuration notes: Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64 SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition x64 using slipstreamed SP1+CU1 media Dell PowerEdge servers Fibre attached storage

    Are there any circumstances where it is favourable to manually create a stub type, as opposed to using a mocking framework (such as Rhino Mocks) at the point of test. We take both these approaches in our projects. My gut feel when I look at the long list of stub versions of objects is that it will add maintenance overhead, and moves the implementation of the stub away from the point of test.

    I am using subsonic simplerepo with migrations in dev and it makes things pretty easy but I keep running into issues with my nvarchar columns that have an index. My users table has an index defined on the username column for obvious reasons but each time I start the project subsonic is doing this: ALTER TABLE [Users] ALTER COLUMN Username nvarchar(50); which causes this: The index 'IX_Username' is dependent on column 'Username'.ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN Username failed because one or more objects access this column Is there any way around this issue?
