    I thought it worth sharing about property overwrite behaviour because i found it confusing at first in the hope of preventing some learning pain for the uninitiated with MSBuild :-)The confusion for me came because of the redundancy of using a Condition statement in a _project_ level property to test that a property has not been previously set.   • Validation and authorization in layered architecture

    I know you are thinking (or maybe yelling), "not another question asking where validation belongs in a layered architecture?!?" Well, yes, but hopefully this will be a little bit of a different take on the subject. I am a firm believer that validation takes many forms, is context-based and varies at each level of the architecture. That is the basis for the post - helping to identify what type of validation should be performed in each layer. In addition, a question that often comes up is where authorization checks belong. The example scenario comes from an application for a catering business. Periodically during the day, a driver may turn in to the office any excess cash they've accumulated while taking the truck from site to site. The application allows a user to record the 'cash drop' by collecting the driver's ID, and the amount. My question is what checks you would, if any, be performing at each given the following business rules (along with standard checks for length, range, format, type, etc): The amount of the cash drop must be greater than zero. The cash drop must have a valid Driver. The current user must be authorized to add cash drops (current user is not the driver). Please share your thoughts, how you have or would approach this scenario and the reasons for your choices.

  • Where is the documentation for MSBUILD arguments to run MSDEPLOY?

    There is an excellent PDC talk available here which describes the new MSDEPLOY features in Visual Studio 2010 - as well as how to deploy an application within TFS. The talk explains some of the command line parameters such as : /p:DeployOnBuild /p:DeployTarget=MsDeployPublish /p:CreatePackageOnPublish=True /p:MSDeployPublishMethod=InProc /p:MSDeployServiceURL=localhost /p:DeployIISAppApth="Default Web Site" But where is the documentation for this - explaining how they work and what i should use? Most of these turn up very few or zero results when searching. Isn't there some actual documentation for these parameters somewhere? I'd rather use these to deploy than try to add a command line exec command to run the package. I've managed to create a web deployment package, which TFS is copying to the output. But I'm ending up with all kinds of errors trying to actually deploy the package. Currently in my build configuration in TFS I have the following arguments for MSBuild Arguments /p:DeployOnBuild=True /p:DeployTarget=MsDeployPublish /p:Configuration=Release /p:CreatePackageOnPublish=True /p:DeployIisAppPath=staging.example.com /p:MsDeployServiceUrl=localhost This however gives me this error : Is there any actual real documentation for these arguments? It would probably take me about 5 minutes to get it running the package by the command line, but i want to get them deploying like this because it will simplify multiple configurations later.

    I'm having troubles using the Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin on a server. The server is not the one running Exchange 2007, it's a remote server (in the same zone). I can't figure out how to add the Snapin for Powershell - Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Admin. Is it possible to just get the dll file from the Exchange 2007 server, and copy it to the server where my code is running? Can someone please explain what I need to do to get my code running? The exception that i'm getting now is: "No Windows PowerShell Snap-ins are available for version 1".   • Powershell Transcript is empty when running script from SQL Agent Job in 2005 SQL Server

    I have a complex Powershell script that gets run as part of a SQL 2005 Server Agent Job. The script works fine, but it uses the "Start-Transcript $strLogfile -Append" command to log all of it's actions to a transcript file. The problem is that the transcript is always empty. It adds the header and footer to indicate that the transcript is starting and stopping, but it doesn't actually log anything. Example: ********************** Windows PowerShell Transcript Start Start time: 20100304173001 Username : xxxxxxxxxxxx\SYSTEM Machine : xxxxx-xxx (Microsoft Windows NT 5.2.3790 Service Pack 2) ********************** ********************** Windows PowerShell Transcript End End time: 20100304173118 ********************** When I execute the script from a command prompt or start - run everything works just fine. Here is the command used to run the script (same command used in the Operating system CmdExec step of the SQL Agent Job) powershell.exe -File "c:\temp\Backup\backup script.ps1" I first thought it must have something to do with the script running under the System account (default SQL Agent account), but even when I tried changing the SQL Agent to run under my own personal account it still created a blank transcript. Is there any way to get PowerShell Transcripts to work when executing them as part of a 2005 SQL Server Agent Job?

  • How to tell Seam to inject a local EJB interface (SLSB) and not the remote EJB interface (SLSB)?

    Hello, I am using Seam with JBoss AS. In my application I have a SLSB which is also declared as a seam component using the @Name annotation. I am trying to inject and use this SLSB in another seam component using the @In annotation. My problem is that sometimes Seam injects the local interface (then the code runs fine) and sometimes seam injects the remote interface (then there is an error in execution of the code). I have tried doing all the things specified on this link: http://docs.jboss.org/seam/2.2.0.GA/reference/en-US/html/configuration.html#config.integration.ejb.container The SeamInterceptor is configured, I have specified the jndi pattern in components.xml file ( < core:init debug="true" jndi-pattern="earName/#{ejbName}/local"/ ), I have also tried using the @JndiName("earName/ejbName/local") annotation for every SLSB, I have tried setting this property ( org.jboss.seam.core.init.jndiPattern=earName/#{ejbName}/local ) in the seam.properties file. I have also tried putting the text below in web.xml file <context-param> <param-name>org.jboss.seam.core.init.jndiPattern</param-name> <param-value>earName/#{ejbName}/local</param-value> </context-param> Even after doing all the above mentioned things, the seam still injects the remote interface sometimes. Am I missing something here? Can anyone tell me how to resolve this issue and tell seam to always inject the local interface?     Hi, I am using Silverlight 3 to develop an application. In my app, I have a layout Grid (named "LayoutGrid") in which I have a DataGrid (named "PART_datagrid") with DataGridTemplateColumns. The LayoutGrid is set a DataContext in which there is a Ladders list as a property. This Ladders list is set as the ItemsSource for the PART_datagrid. <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <DataGrid x:Name="PART_datagrid" ItemsSource="{Binding Ladders}"> ... <DataGridTemplateColumn> <DataGridTemplateColumn.CellTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Button Name="DeleteLadder" Click.Command="{Binding ElementName=LayoutRoot, Path=DataContext.DeleteLadderCommand}" /> Now in one of the DataGridTemplateColumns I have a button which should invoke a Command thats present in the LayoutGrid's DataContext. So I tried Element-To-Element binding on my DataTemplate button as follows <Button Name="DeleteLadder" Click.Command="{Binding ElementName=LayoutRoot, Path=DataContext.DeleteLadderCommand}" /> But this does not seem to work. What I want to achieve is to handle the event of deletion of a DataGrid row at the parent DataContext level using the command. Can someone pls suggest how do I proceed on this? Thanks in advance...

I have a BASH script using a for loop to run a complex command (many protein sequence alignments) on a lot of files (~5000). The loop produces statements that will execute when given alone (i.e. copy-pasted from the error message to the command prompt), but which return "no such file or directory" inside the loop.     I need to write a simple C# .NET application to retrieve, update, and insert some data in a Sharepoint list. I am NOT a Sharepoint developer, and I don't have control over our Sharepoint server. I would prefer not to have to develop this in a proper sharepoint development environment simply because I don't want to have to deploy my application on the Sharepoint server -- I'd rather just access data externally. Anyway, I found out that you can access Sharepoint data using OLE DB, and I tried it successfully using some ADO.NET: var db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(); DataSet ds = new DataSet(); using (var command = db.GetSqlStringCommand("SELECT * FROM List")) { db.LoadDataSet(command, ds, "List"); } The above works. However, when I try to insert: using (var command = db.GetSqlStringCommand("INSERT INTO List ([HeaderName], [Description], [Number]) VALUES ('Blah', 'Blah', 100)")) { db.ExecuteNonQuery(command); } I get this error: Cannot update 'HeaderName'; field not updateable. I did some Googling and apparently you cannot insert data through OLE DB! Does anyone know if there are some possible workarounds? I could try using Sharepoint Web Services, but I tried that initially and was having a heck of a time authenticating. Is that my only option?

    Hey, I have experience with MSBuild and Hudson, but am new to MSDeploy. I currently have a simple solution with one web application project. I set up a build configuration and am using the "Publish" command (Visual Studio 2010) to simply copy files to a local folder and do config file replacement. What I would like to do is automate this using Hudson. So I figure I'll create an MSBuild script that will Perform the build (by calling out to the project file with my desired build configuration) Call MSDeploy to do all the same things that the "Publish" command is doing, except copy the files to a different folder. Configure Hudson to poll subversion and perform steps 1 & 2 when changes are detected Step 2 is where I'm getting lost. I assumed that the project.xml file that was created by VS2010 corresponded to -verb:sync -source:manifest=project.xml options, but msdeploy is choking on that xml file so clearly that's not what it's intended for. What command is Visual Studio executing under the covers to perform the config file replacement and the file copy? How do I automate the Publish command?

  • When does a PHP <5.3.0 daemon script receive signals?

    I've got a PHP script in the works that is a job worker; its main task is to check a database table for new jobs, and if there are any, to act on them. But jobs will be coming in in bursts, with long gaps in between, so I devised a sleep cycle like: while(true) { if ($jobs = get_new_jobs()) { // Act upon the jobs } else { // No new jobs now sleep(30); } } Good, but in some cases that means there might be a 30 second lag before a new job is acted upon. Since this is a daemon script, I figured I'd try the pcntl_signal hook to catch a SIGUSR1 signal to nudge the script to wake up, like: $_isAwake = true; function user_sig($signo) { global $_isAwake; daemon_log("Caught SIGUSR1"); $_isAwake = true; } pcntl_signal(SIGUSR1, 'user_sig'); while(true) { if ($jobs = get_new_jobs()) { // Act upon the jobs } else { // No new jobs now daemon_log("No new jobs, sleeping..."); $_isAwake = false; $ts = time(); while(time() < $ts+30) { sleep(1); if ($_isAwake) break; // Did a signal happen while we were sleeping? If so, stop sleeping } $_isAwake = true; } } I broke the sleep(30) up into smaller sleep bits, in case a signal doesn't interrupt a sleep() command, thinking that this would cause at most a one-second delay, but in the log file, I'm seeing that the SIGUSR1 isn't being caught until after the full 30 seconds has passed (and maybe the outer while loop resets). I found the pcntl_signal_dispatch command, but that's only for PHP 5.3 and higher. If I were using that version, I could stick a call to that command before the if ($_isAwake) call, but as it currently stands I'm on 5.2.13. On what sort of situations is the signals queue interpreted in PHP versions without the means to explicitly call the queue parsing? Could I put in some other useless command in that sleep loop that would trigger a signal queue parse within there?

    Can someone give me an example rule, or process to create a rewrite rule, to redirect a subdomain to a subdirectory in IIS 7? Basically I want to rewrite http://s1.site.com to http://site.com/s1/, so that the user will see s1.site.com but will actually be hitting site.com/s1/. Specifically I'm a rewrite rookie and I want to be able to fill out the pattern, conditions, and action of the rewrite rule (basically everything) in IIS 7. If anyone could give me a good pattern string, and a Rewrite URL string, that would solve my problem immediately.

  • Python equivalent of IDL's stop and .reset

    Hi there, I'm relatively new to python but have a bit of experience using IDL. I was wondering if anyone knows if there are equivalent commands in python for IDL's stop and .reset commands. If I'm running some IDL script I wrote that I put a stop command in, essentially what it does is stop the script there and give me access to the command line in the middle of the script. So I have access to all the functions and variables that I defined before the stop command, which I find really useful for debugging. The .reset command I find extremely useful too. What it does is reset the the IDL environment (clears all variables, functions, etc.). It's as if I closed that session and opened a new one, but without having to exit and restart IDL. I find that if I'm trying to debug a script I wrote it's useful sometimes to start from scratch and not have to reset IDL (or python now). It would be useful also in python to be able to un-import any modules I had previously imported. Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated.   • ws-xmlrpc claims error on part of service but other clients work fine

    I've been trying to connect to an rTorrent instance using ws-xmlrpc and it just isn't going too well. Now, the URL I'm using is the same that I've been using when making sure that rTorrent's XMLRPC support is fine (which it appears to be since both a native OS X application and a small python script I threw together appear to be able to talk to it just fine without any errors). However, when I try using ws-xmlrpc to connect I get org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcException: Failed to create input stream: Unexpected end of file from serverat the top of my stack trace followed by a bunch of steps down to: java.net.SocketException: Unexpected end of file from server at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.parseHTTPHeader(HttpClient.java:769) ... So basically, it seems that ws-xmlrpc is convinced that the reply from rTorrent is malformed somehow but other libraries apparently have no problem with it. Now what am i doing is that i get the uninstall string of the specific application from the registry and use System.Diagnostics.Process to run UninstallString. Dim proc As New Process() proc.StartInfo.FileName =UninstallString proc.Start() proc.WaitForExit() proc.Close() latter i found that it only work for straight file paths only, i mean with no command line argument like: C:\program files\someApp\uninstall.exe I make a list of list of all UninstallStrings of all application installed on my machine. i found few things like application installed using MSI, some were with rundll32 and few were with straight file path with some command argument like: My Silverlight SDK UninstallString, MSI Example MsiExec.exe /X{2012098D-EEE9-4769-8DD3-B038050854D4} My JetAudio UninstallString, RunDll32 Example RunDll32 C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\INSTAL~1\engine\6\INTEL3~1\Ctor.dll,LaunchSetup "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information{91F34319-08DE-457A-99C0-0BCDFAC145B9}\Setup.exe" -l0x9 My Google Chrome UninstallString, straight file path with command argument example "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\5.0.375.55\Installer\setup.exe" -uninstall The code i mentioned above does not work for these. i did some string parsing, separate two thing from UninstallString one is Filename and other is Arguments. like for MSI, filename is MSIEXEC.EXE and argument will be rest of the string, same for RunDLL32, same for straight file path with command argument. Now what am i facing is that, after every 2 or 3 days i come to know that this type of unistallstring is also not working. and why is that not working because it is a new type maybe abc C:\program files\someapp.exe -ddd so parse it too. is there any better way of doing that rather then parsing the string.

  • uncompressing .zip file in linux [closed]

    hi, I have a .zip file (It contains multiple files, ex: file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt.. n so on) in a directory. And my query is: How to extract the files from .zip archive to the very same directory and how to create the list of all the files extracted from .zip archive.** The extracted file name should be printed like this in the file named: file_list: file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt filen.txt I have tried the following command assuming that my .zip file name is "data.zip". unzip -qoj data.zip | unzip -ql data.zip > file_list I have used unzip -qoj data.zip to extract all the files in the same directory(quietly,overwrite,junk_path). When I try to insert -l with the first unzip command then the command doesn't extract the file in the current and only files are listed thats why I have to used unzip again after the first pipe(If I am making a mistake here let me know please). I get the following output Length Date Time Name -------- ---- ---- ---- 0 12-21-09 14:25 data/ 6148 12-21-09 14:25 data/.DS_Store 0 12-21-09 14:25 __MACOSX/ 0 12-21-09 14:25 __MACOSX/data/ 82 12-21-09 14:25 __MACOSX/data/._.DS_Store 82 12-11-09 13:59 data/file1.txt 120 12-11-09 13:59 data/file2.txt 166 12-11-09 13:59 data/file3.txt -------- ------- 6598 8 files How do I extract only file1.txt file2.txt file3.txt from this stdout? Is it possible to do this with linux command or I have to write a perl script for this? Thank you.
