  • books or online resources to prepare for .NET interviews for senior developer role

    - by RKP
Hi, can you suggest some good books or online resources (FAQ or articles) to prepare for .NET interviews (.NET concepts, ASP.NET, C# etc) for senior developer role? something to refresh the concepts, not too much detailed. there could be stuff I haven't done before (that applies to everyone), so at least knowing little bit about it, will definitely help. google search shows me some website with lots of QA, but they are not authentic (I found some answers inaccurate). thanks in advance.

  • [PHP] Dots and spaces in variable names from external sources are converted to underscores

    - by Brandon
Trying a bit of AJAX, and I find that much of my data is littered with underscores! Documentation confirms that this is working as intended. Any way to pass my form information to PHP in tact? I'm using code igniter, so my pass looks like /controller/function/variable, receiving controller: controller{ function($v=0){#what once was hello world is now hello_world...} } I can't very well do an undo, data might contain an underscore. Thanks, Brandon

  • How to switch position of two items in a Python list?

    - by mikl
I haven’t been able to find a good solution for this problem on the net (probably because switch, position, list and Python are all such overloaded words). It’s rather simple – I have this list: ['title', 'email', 'password2', 'password1', 'first_name', 'last_name', 'next', 'newsletter'] I’d like to switch position of 'password2' and 'password1' – not knowing their exact position, only that they’re right next to one another and password2 is first. I’ve accomplished this with some rather long-winded list-subscripting, but I wondered if someone could come up with something a bit more elegant?

  • Programmatically forward-lock an Android APK

    - by String
Doing a bit of advance research, and am stuck on the point summarized in the title. Namely, is there any way to forward-lock an APK installed programmatically, from another app? I've not come across anything beyond a hint in the following post: http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/e39941389d4a4cf8 I can't see anything in the docs for PackageManager about forward- locking, but I readily confess that this is an unfamiliar area of the SDK for me. • Setting a variable to undefined

    - by AJ
Hello, I'm a bit confused about Javascript undefined & null. Firstly what does if (!testvar) actually do? Does it test for undefined and null or just undefined? Secondly, once a variable is defined can I clear it back to undefined (therefore deleting the variable). Thirdly, can I pass undefined as a parameter? e.g: function test(var1, var2, var3) { } test("value1", undefined, "value2") Thanks, AJ

  • How to configure VTK on windows for C++ programming?

    - by Rasoul
I am new to windows C/C++ programming. I am trying to get a binary program (.exe) to run which needs VTK library. I have installed VTK from http://vtk.org/VTK/resources/software.html on 64-bit windows 7. When I run the binary program, it generates an error in a window saying that "vtkCommon.dll is missing from your computer". Should I add the folder in which VTK has been installed to the windows PATH?

  • Best Practices / Patterns for Enterprise Protection/Remediation of SSNs (Social Security Numbers)

    - by Erik Neu
I am interested in hearing about enterprise solutions for SSN handling. (I looked pretty hard for any pre-existing post on SO, including reviewing the terriffic SO automated "Related Questions" list, and did not find anything, so hopefully this is not a repeat.) First, I think it is important to enumerate the reasons systems/databases use SSNs: (note—these are reasons for de facto current state—I understand that many of them are not good reasons) Required for Interaction with External Entities. This is the most valid case—where external entities your system interfaces with require an SSN. This would typically be government, tax and financial. SSN is used to ensure system-wide uniqueness. SSN has become the default foreign key used internally within the enterprise, to perform cross-system joins. SSN is used for user authentication (e.g., log-on) The enterprise solution that seems optimum to me is to create a single SSN repository that is accessed by all applications needing to look up SSN info. This repository substitutes a globally unique, random 9-digit number (ASN) for the true SSN. I see many benefits to this approach. First of all, it is obviously highly backwards-compatible—all your systems "just" have to go through a major, synchronized, one-time data-cleansing exercise, where they replace the real SSN with the alternate ASN. Also, it is centralized, so it minimizes the scope for inspection and compliance. (Obviously, as a negative, it also creates a single point of failure.) This approach would solve issues 2 and 3, without ever requiring lookups to get the real SSN. For issue #1, authorized systems could provide an ASN, and be returned the real SSN. This would of course be done over secure connections, and the requesting systems would never persist the full SSN. Also, if the requesting system only needs the last 4 digits of the SSN, then that is all that would ever be passed. Issue #4 could be handled the same way as issue #1, though obviously the best thing would be to move away from having users supply an SSN for log-on. • Determining when scrolled to bottom of a page with Javascript

    - by chimerical
I'm trying to determine when I've scrolled to the bottom of the page (without using any JS library), but so far, I'm a bit confused over which one of the following to use. The most promising one I've seen is window.scrollY, but even when scrolled to the bottom of the page, it never matches the value of window.innerHeight. What's the best way to do this? window.innerWidth window.innerHeight window.outerWidth window.outerHeight window.scrollX window.scrollY document.body.scrollWidth document.body.scrollHeight document.body.scrollTop document.body.scrollLeft document.body.offsetTop document.body.offsetLeft document.body.offsetWidth document.body.offsetHeight

  • URLRewriter.net with multiple querystring separated by /

    - by Andreas Strandfelt
I have been looking around the site a bit, but I didn't find any replies on how to do it the way I want. What I want is an URL like this: www.example.com/Projects/"querystring1 - text only"/"querystring2 - 4 digits only"/ to show the page with this URL: www.example.com/Projects.aspx?Region=querystring1&Zip=querystring2 What I have been trying is the following: <rewrite url="~/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/(.+)/(.+)" to="~/Workers.aspx?Region=$1&amp;zip=$2"/> But it just takes both of them as one querysting and put them in the Region-querystring.

  • Alpha-Beta cutoff

    - by Becky
I understand the basics of this search, however the beta cut-off part is confusing me, when beta <= value of alphabeta I can either return beta, break, or continue the loop. return beta doesn't seem to work properly at all, it returns the wrong players move for a different state of the board (further into the search tree) break seems to work correctly, it is very fast but it seems a bit TOO fast continue is a lot slower than break but it seems more correct...I'm guessing this is the right way but pseudocode on google all use 'break' but because this is pseudocode I'm not sure what they mean by 'break'

  • socket.shutdown vs socket.close

    - by Jason Baker
I recently saw a bit of code that looked like this (with sock being a socket object of course): sock.shutdown(socket.SHUT_RDWR) sock.close() What exactly is the purpose of calling shutdown on the socket and then closing it? If it makes a difference, this socket is being used for non-blocking IO.

  • Mapping a BigInteger to a circle

    - by Martin
I have a C# system using 160 bit numbers, stored in a BigInteger. I want to display these things on a circle, which means mapping the 0-2^160 range into the 0-2Pi range. How would I do this? The approach that jumps instantly to mind is angle = (number / pow(2, 160)) * TwoPi; However, that has complexities because the division will truncate the result into an integer.

  • What do I use if a CSS framework or grid is bad?

    - by johnny
Reference this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/203069/what-is-the-best-css-framework-and-are-they-worth-the-effort Do I go back to the "old" way of manually creating a template or downloading free ones again. For a little bit I thought a grid was the new thing and the best, now it appears I am wrong after all and not sure of best practice. And, yes, I can write my own CSS but didn't want to create the infrastructure if I didn't have to.

  • jQuery cannot retrieve data from localhost

    - by fatnic
I have a very simple bit of jQuery to retrieve my latest Tweet $.getJSON("http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/username.json?count=1", function(data) { $("#tweet_text").html(data[0].text); }); This works fine on a simple HTML file on my desktop. However, once the file is accessed from my localhost (apache) no data is being returned. I was wondering if any part of Apache was blocking the request somehow? Or any other ideas?

  • gtk2 auto translation is choosing the wrong language

    - by Andrew Heath
Not sure if yall can help this time, as I'm just using this particular program not coding with it... I downloaded Deluge, a free torrent app, and it requires GTK2 Runtime which I've also installed. Unfortunately, on my English WinXP with East Asian Language support Deluge sets itself to Chinese menus and has no option to alter the language. A bit of poking around on the internet suggests this is due to GTK2 selecting the wrong default language. Does anyone know how I can override this?

  • vshost.exe file in Release folder?

    - by baal80
Why there is a appname.vshost.exe file generated for the release version of my application? I might add that I'm using an external dll library and some unsafe code. What's even more interesting, my application launched from Release folder does not work correctly (it works OK when launched from Debug folder). It's bit hard to explain - feel free to ask if you need more info.
