  • best REGEXP friendly Text Editors + most powerful REGEXP syntax?

    I am fluent with Microsoft Visual 2005 regular expressions and they are a big time saver. I seem to learn them best by having a vaguely organized cheat sheet thrown at me, at which point I read just a little and play with them until I understand what's going on. That learning approach has worked well for me, for now. I would really like to take this to the next level though. Basically -- What is the REGEXP convention that is generally regarded as the most open-ended and powerful? VS2005 Regexps seem kind of gimped, so maybe I'm a kid playing in a sandbox. Are there text editors out there that can perform a highlight all matches, list lines containing string, or some kind of powerful function like that in conjunction with the very strongest REGEXP language? If not I can just use multiple programs and a weird technique but I'd like to avoid that. I wonder if a stronger REGEXP language or a "stronger" regEXP writer might be able to have his search match all results on all lines even by clicking a "find next" by adding some simple criteria to the search. Anyway, please provide advice!

    I am a newbie to iPhone development. I have already created an UITableView. I have wired everything up and included the delegate and datasource. However, instead of adding a detail view accessory by using UITableViewCellAccessoryDetailClosureButton, I would like to click the UITableViewCell and it should lead to another view with more details about the UITableViewCell.   • C++ Memory Leak, Can't find where

    I'm using Visual Studio 2008, Developing an OpenGL window. I've created several classes for creating a skeleton, one for joints, one for skin, one for a Body(which is a holder for several joints and skin) and one for reading a skel/skin file. Within each of my classes, I'm using pointers for most of my data, most of which are declared using = new int[XX]. I have a destructor for each Class that deletes the pointers, using delete[XX]. Within my GLUT display function I have it declaring a body, opening the files and drawing them, then deleting the body at the end of the display. But there's still a memory leak somewhere in the program. As Time goes on, it's memory usage just keep increasing, at a consistent rate, which I'm interpreting as something that's not getting deleted. I'm not sure if it's something in the glut display function that's just not deleting the Body class, or something else. I've followed the steps for memory leak detection in Visual Studio 2008 and it doesn't report any leak, but I'm not 100% sure if it's working right for me. I'm not fluent in C++, so there maybe something I'm overlooking, can anyone see it?

We are leaning towards a hybrid model in whcih the requirements gathering session is comprised of a business analyst, subject matter experts, technical person and a user interface person. The plan is to create user stories that the development team can use in their agile process with 1 month sprints. Has anyone had experience with a hybrid model? How has it worked for you so far?

  • How can I draw a shadow beyond a UIView's bounds?

    I'm using the method described at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/805872/how-do-i-draw-a-shadow-under-a-uiview to draw shadow behind a view's content. The shadow is clipped to the view's bounds, although I disabled "Clip Subviews" in Interface Builder for the view. Is it possible to draw a shadow around a view and not only in a view? I don't want to draw the shadow inside the view because the view would receive touch events for the shadow area, which really belongs to the background.

  • How important is the .NET programming language when you choose a new job?

    We are currently hiring at the company where I work, and here the codebase is in VB.Net. We are worried that we miss out on a lot of brilliant programmers, who would never ever consider working with VB.Net. My own background is Java and C#, and I was somewhat sceptical as to whether it would work out with VB, as - to be honest - i didn't care much for VB. After a month or so, I was completely fluent in VB, and a few months later i discovered to my surprise, that I actually like VB. I still code my free time projects in C# and Boo though. So my question is firstly, how important is language for you, when you choose a new programming job? Lets say if its a great company, salary is good, and generally an attractive work-place. Would you say no to the perfect job, if the language wasn't your preferred dialect? VB or C# is one thing, but how about Java or C# etc. Secondly if the best developers won't join your company because of your language or platform, would you consider changing, to get the right people?   • Mdi Children Changed in .Net

    Hi Is there a simple way of tracking the change of an Mdi's children i.e. when they are created and closed, something like an event OnMdiChildListChanged (I realise this doesn't actually exist). I am also aware that I could have a method within my Mdi that handles the creation of child forms and logs the state of them or even create an Interface that defines that a child form has a "NotifyParent" method that is then called on close of the form, but i was wondering if there was any built in events that i could plumb into?   • Using object instead of AppDelegate for Outlets & Actions?

    In all the MonoTouch examples I have seen everyone is using outlets and actions on AppDelegate, yet when I've been through some objective-C webcasts I see people using an Object they drag onto XIB in Interface Builder and using that (Seems a lot cleaner). Is there just not a way to reference any Objects like that that we create? Is there a particular way to access it? Any advice would be appreciated, thanks

    Dear all, first thing to note is the serialVersionUID of a class implementing Interface Serializable is not in question. What if we create a class that for example extends HttpServlet? It also should have a serialVersionUID. If someone knows that this object will never be serialized should he define it or add an annotation to suppress those warnings? What would you do and why?
