  • jquery question - addclass to element depending on active image in rotating banner

    I have a banner that rotates a series of three images. The active one has a display:block, while the inactive have display:none. I'm trying to match the class for the active image with an tag so that I can add an "active" class to the a tag. Having some trouble writing that function. It's adding all of the classes for each of the img elements, regardless of whether they're being displayed or not...     I'm currently getting started with Backbone.js. I've wrote some examples with Backbone and they are working fine. But now I need to use Backbone.js with Rails 3.1 and CoffeeScript. I took my well-working examples and rewrote on CoffeeScript using backbone-rails gem. And got the following problem.   • Troubleshooting inconsistent ODBC connectivity

    I'm attempting to integrate UPS WorldShip with a SQL Server 2008 R2 database but the connection is very inconsistent. UPS claims this is a DSN/Windows problem and I have not been able to convince them otherwise. The integration is quite simple: my shipping guy clicks a button which opens a form where he enters an order #. After pressing enter the shipping information will be pulled from the database for that order #. The problem is that WorldShip often times thinks the DSN does not exist. However, I am able to open WorldShip's customization tool and browse all the tables and fields in the database my DSN is connected to which means at the very least my DSN does, in fact, exist. The reason this has been so difficult to troubleshoot is because there is no consistency to the problem and I'm not able to reliably repeat any behavior. That is to say that rebooting the PC doesn't cause the connection to break and opening the integration tool and viewing the tables and fields doesn't cause the integration button to work. Is there some way for me to monitor this connection from the SQL server or get any clues as to why it fails? As requested by TallTed here is a sample of the trace file I created.   • Properties in partial class not appearing in Data Sources window!

    Entity Framework has created the required partial classes. I can add these partial classes to the Data Sources window and the properties display as expected. However, if I extend any of the classes in a separate source file these properties do not appear in the Data Sources window even after a build and refresh. All properties in partial classes across source files work as expected in the Data Sources window except when the partial class has been created with EF. EDIT: After removing the offending table for edm designer, adding back in it all works are expected. Hardly a long term solution. Anyone else come across a similar problem?

    I want to write a module (framework specific), that would wrap and extend Facebook PHP-sdk (https://github.com/facebook/php-sdk/). My problem is - how to organize classes, in a nice way. So getting into details - Facebook PHP-sdk consists of two classes: BaseFacebook - abstract class with all the stuff sdk does Facebook - extends BaseFacebook, and implements parent abstract persistance-related methods with default session usage Now I have some functionality to add: Facebook class substitution, integrated with framework session class shorthand methods, that run api calls, I use mostly (through BaseFacebook::api()), authorization methods, so i don't have to rewrite this logic every time, configuration, sucked up from framework classes, insted of passed as params caching, integrated with framework cache module I know something has gone very wrong, because I have too much inheritance that doesn't look very normal.Wrapping everything in one "complex extension" class also seems too much. I think I should have few working togheter classes - but i get into problems like: if cache class doesn't really extend and override BaseFacebook::api() method - shorthand and authentication classes won't be able to use the caching. Maybe some kind of a pattern would be right in here? How would you organize these classes and their dependencies? New instance of Facebook_Cache gives me all the functionality. Shorthand methods from Facebook_Custom use caching, because Facebook_Cache overwrited api() method. But here is what is bothering me: I think it's too much inheritance. It's all very tight coupled - like look how i had to specify 'Facebook_Custom::api' instead of 'parent:api', to avoid api() method loop on Facebook_Cache class extending. Overall mess and ugliness. So again, this works but I'm just asking about patterns / ways of doing this in a cleaner and smarter way.

I have a menu and if one hovers over the menu a sub menu appears and if mouse moves out the sub menu disappears, now I want the following if I click on the on a item in the sub menu, I want the sub-menu to remain open, when the new page has been loaded. I'm using superfish Jquery plugin for this. How should I begin implementing the two extra functions?

    I have a managed class library (say mylib.dll) and a 3rd party managed app (say app.exe) which is using mylib.dll. I have the code of mylib.dll but not of the app.exe. So currently what i do is i build mylib.dll, copy it to app.exe's directory, start app.exe and attach to the process. That way if i put breakpoints in code mylib.dll , i see them being hit. But is there anyway to automatically break in code of mylib.dll whenever any external application calls one of its exposed methods ? ie. Only for entrypoints of the dll. thanks, Mishal

    I have a set of items that can be in various states. I want to allow a user to use an (X)HTML form to change the state, and easily view the state of a group of objects ...so to this end, I'd like a layout like: | item1 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | | item2 | radio button for state 1 | radio for state 2 | ... | [update button] | etc. I prefer the radio buttons to list boxes so that it's easy for a user to visually scan for things in a certain state. It seemed like perfectly tabular data to me. The only problem is, you can't have forms inside a table that cross table cells (ie. <tr> <form> <td> ... is invalid). I thought, "hey, I could have one giant form wrapping a table, and make the [update button] value contain the IDs for each row!" Turns out certain versions of IE send ALL THE SUBMIT BUTTON VALUES on any single form. So I thought perhaps to to lay it out with <div>s and place the forms inside a single <td>. But then they break a line on each <div>. So I fixed their width and made them float: left. But then they wrap inside the table cells if the table row is wider than the page, and the radio controls don't line up with the headings. Is it possible to lay this out as I intend? The XHTML below shows the intended structure.   • How should I provide access to this custom DAL?

    I'm writing a custom DAL (VB.NET) for an ordering system project. I'd like to explain how it is coded now, and receive some alternate ideas to make coding against the DAL easier/more readable. The DAL is part of an n-tier (not n-layer) application, where each tier is in it's own assembly/DLL. The DAL consists of several classes that have specific behavior. For instance, there is an Order class that is responsible for retrieving and saving orders. Most of the classes have only two methods, a "Get" and a "Save," with multiple overloads for each. These classes are marked as Friend and are only visible to the DAL (which is in it's own assembly). In most cases, the DAL returns what I will call a "Data Object." This object is a class that contains only data and validation, and is located in a common assembly that both the BLL and DAL can read. To provide public access to the DAL, I currently have a static (module) class that has many shared members. A simplified version looks something like this: Public Class DAL Private Sub New End Sub Public Shared Function GetOrder(OrderID as String) as OrderData Dim OrderGetter as New OrderClass Return OrderGetter.GetOrder(OrderID) End Function End Class Friend Class OrderClass Friend Function GetOrder(OrderID as string) as OrderData End Function End Class The BLL would call for an order like this: DAL.GetOrder("123456") As you can imagine, this gets cumbersome very quickly. I'm mainly interested in structuring access to the DAL so that Intellisense is very intuitive. As it stands now, there are too many methods/functions in the DAL class with similar names. One idea I had is to break down the DAL into nested classes: Public Class DAL Private Sub New End Sub Public Class Orders Private Sub New End Sub Public Shared Function Get(OrderID as string) as OrderData End Function End Class End Class So the BLL would call like this: DAL.Orders.Get("12345") This cleans it up a bit, but it leaves a lot of classes that only have references to other classes, which I don't like for some reason. Without resorting to passing DB specific instructions (like where clauses) from BLL to DAL, what is the best or most common practice for providing a single point of access for the DAL?

But from UI i'm not supposed to call the service methods directly. I need to call all service methods from a static class and from code behind file i need to invoke the static method. In this scenario what exactlly do i need to do?

The idea was to define classes that parsed each PARAM type and to keep track of which class to use in the PARAM's CLASS attribute. In code I have a config class that manages the list of profiles and a profile class that manages the list of params. I would like the profile class to handle additional param types (that inherit BaseParam) without modification to the profile class (or at the very least with minimal modification). First of all, is this design viable? If so, what are some ways I could use different param classes and have their creation at run-time be automatic (the profile class sees the CLASS attribute and knows which type to create)?
