  • PHP object parent/child recursion

    - by Damien
I've got a parent-child OO relationship. Parent obejcts has many child objects and every child object knows about it's parent by reference. The parent can be a child too (basically its a tree). When i do a var_dump() on the root object it says ["parent"]=RECURSION many times and the generated description will be really long. I'm wondering if i do something wrong. If yes, i'm interested in the "best practice". Thanks for the help!

  • send email notifications to entrants of my contest form using php

    - by Zeljko Radic
I am really stuck with the following issue and your assistance would be appreciated. Here is the deal. I have a contest form at http://www.beogradstore.com/mn/contest/main-contest/. Btw, I use WordPress contest domination plugin. So I want entrants of the contest to receive email notifications whenever they receive reward entries. After they enter the contest, they will receive referral link, which they can share online and whenever someone enters the contest with that referral link, the owner of the referral link will receive 10 new contest entries. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this?

  • php parse without replacing

    - by David
i have seen some parsing code, thats really long, but it doesn't involve replacing stuff inside an opened file using file_get_contents() for example. im talking about say parsing a .doc into .html format, they read the file then output it in html. i have tried this using arrays and preg_replace but it just doesn't seem as clean as other code. anyone know the basic concept of parsing? thanks, tell me if im not clear

  • php - comparing timestamp dates to make sure user is of minimum age

    - by Micheal Ken
When a user signs up the system has to check that they are old enough to do so, in this example they have to be atleast 8 years old $minAge = strtotime(date("d")."-".date("m")."-".(date("Y")-8)); $dob = strtotime($day."-".$month."-".$year); $minAge = 01-03-2004, $dob = 01-02-2011 I basically need to make sure this person was born before 2004 but I want to know whether I have to convert the timestamps to do a comparison or whether there is a more efficient way. Any help is appreciated, thank you

  • Truncate a UTF-8 string to fit a given byte count in PHP

    - by fsb
Say we have a UTF-8 string $s and we need to shorten it so it can be stored in N bytes. Blindly truncating it to N bytes could mess it up. But decoding it to find the character boundaries is a drag. Is there a tidy way? [Edit 20100414] In addition to S.Mark’s answer: mb_strcut(), I recently found another function to do the job: grapheme_extract($s, $n, GRAPHEME_EXTR_MAXBYTES); from the intl extension. Since intl is an ICU wrapper, I have a lot of confidence in it.

  • How to add SQL elements to an array in PHP

    - by DanLeaningphp
So this question is probably pretty basic. I am wanting to create an array from selected elements from a SQL table. I am currently using: $rcount = mysql_num_rows($result); for ($j = 0; $j <= $rcount; $j++) { $row = mysql_fetch_row($result); $patients = array($row[0] => $row[2]); } I would like this to return an array like this: $patients = (bob=>1, sam=>2, john=>3, etc...) Unfortunately, in its current form, this code is either copying nothing to the array or only copying the last element.

  • Searching a table MySQL & PHP.

    - by S1syphus
I want to be able to search through a MySQL table using values from a search string, from the url and display the results as an XML output. I think I have got the formatting and declaring the variables from the search string down. The issue I have is searching the entire table, I've looked over SO for previous answers, and they all seem to have to declare each column in the table to search through. So for example my database layout is as follows: **filesindex** -filename -creation -length -wall -playlocation First of all would the following be appropriate: $query = "SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE filename LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE creation LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE length LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE wall LIKE '".$searchterm."%' UNION SELECT * FROM filesindex WHERE location LIKE '".$searchterm."%'"; Or ideally, is there an easier way that involves less hardcoding to search a table. Any ideas? Thanks

  • (php) how to properly 'save' info in forms completed thus far

    - by hatorade
So i have a form that on paper is 40 pages long. I was going to take the natural sections of this form, and make separate html forms for each section, with the idea that on the first page there would be a first form, then you hit 'Continue to next section' which essentially is the 'submit' button, which moves the user to section two, etc, until they hit the last section. i am not actually storing the results of the form in a database, but rather sending an email. the idea then is to store the separate form answers (one html form per section in the real form) as arrays or objects in the session, so that if they go back to a section in the form, it repopulates the values they entered since they are stored in the session. the result would be an array in the session storing the results for each of my forms, and i have one form for each section. my question is: is it secure to temporarily store things like SSNs or driver's license numbers as session variables? why or why not?

  • JSON Search and remove in php?

    - by moogeek
Hello! I have a session variable $_SESSION["animals"] containing a deep json object with values: $_SESSION["animals"]='{ "0":{"kind":"mammal","name":"Pussy the Cat","weight":"12kg","age":"5"}, "1":{"kind":"mammal","name":"Roxy the Dog","weight":"25kg","age":"8"}, "2":{"kind":"fish","name":"Piranha the Fish","weight":"1kg","age":"1"}, "3":{"kind":"bird","name":"Einstein the Parrot","weight":"0.5kg","age":"4"}, }'; For example, I want to find the line with "Piranha the Fish" and then remove it (and json_encode it again as it was). How to do this? I guess i need to search in json_decode($_SESSION["animals"],true) resulting array and find the parent key to remove but i'm stucked anyways.

  • Adding to a multidimensional array in PHP

    - by b. e. hollenbeck
I have an array being returned from the database that looks like so: $data = array(201 => array('description' => blah, 'hours' => 0), 222 => array('description' => feh, 'hours' => 0); In the next bit of code, I'm using a foreach and checking the for the key in another table. If the next query returns data, I want to update the 'hours' value in that key's array with a new hours value: foreach ($data as $row => $value){ $query = $db->query($sql); if ($result){ $value['hours'] = $result['hours']; } I've tried just about every combination of declarations for the foreach loop, but I keep getting the error that it's a non-object. Surely this is easier than my brain is perceiving it.

  • PHP - Loop thru recordset and fire event each n rows

    - by Luciano
I'm looking for the right logic to loop thru a recordset and fire an event each n times. Searching on Google i've found some discussion on similar situations, but it seems that solutions don't fits my needs. Let's say i have a recordset of 22 rows. I want to loop thru each row and launch a function on the 4th, the 8th, the 12th and so on... Using the modulus operator as shown in this answer, if($i % 4 == 0), i get the event fired each 4 rows, but 22 its not a multiple of 4 so the event is fired till the 20th row and then nothing. Maybe i need to make a division counting rows in 'excess'? Since the recordset will be between 50 and 200 rows i think its not necessary run multiple query of 4 rows, am I wrong? Thanks in advance!

    - by apis17

Updates I want to use grouping to filter postcode and make Name3 and Name4 as different rows. For example: +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ | Name | u_country | u_postcode| +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ | Name2 | Country5 | 5555 | | Name3 | | 6666 | | Name4 | Country6 | 6666 | +-----------------------+--------------+-----------+ Any possible idea?

  • PHP mp3 upload with spaces in filename

    - by Maenny
Hi folks, I am building a site, where users can upload their mp3s and I ran into a little problem that I can't solve: The upload works fine, but only when the user selects an mp3-file which has no spaces in their mp3-filename. A file like 'My nice mp3 file.mp3' will result in a NULL of $_FILES['file']. Has this to do with Server-configurations? Anyone has an idea how to solve that? Other than telling the user just to upload mp3files without spaces in their names, that is :-) Thanx, Maenny

  • crazy things with PHP array...

    - by user296516
Hi, A very strange thing, I have an array where element 7 is '[1000137d]', but when I try to compare it by using if ( $array[7] == '[1000137d]' ) it will return a negative. echo $array[7]; echo '<br>'; echo '[1000137d]'; echo '<br>'; echo md5($array[7]); echo '<br>'; echo md5('[1000137d]'); this code would echo out: [1000137d] [1000137d] ca9983334e720042e3a6cbb1dd6b7fd2 3b1c21e661bd7d38deda1f4a45eaa23b as you can see $array[7] is identical to [1000137d], yet their md5's differ. what do you think might be the problem? Thanks!
