• Division inaccurate in Javascript?

  If I perform the following operation in Javascript: 0.06120*400 The result is 24.48. However, if I do this: 24.48/400 The result is: 0.061200000000000004 JSFiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/zcDH7/ So it appears that Javascript rounds things differently when doing division and multiplication? Using my calculator, the operation 24.48/400 results in the correct answer of 0.0612. How should I deal with Javascript's inaccurate division? I can't simply round the number off, because I will be dealing with numbers of varying precision. Thanks for your advice.

• Excel plugin: Finding a Chart's Source Data Number Format String

  I'm currently working on a plugin for excel (using VB.net--not VBA) that will attempt (among other things) to recognize the format of the source data of a chart and configure the chart's series' number format strings appropriately. That is, yearly data should always be two numbers, monthly data should always be a 3-letter month followed by a 2-digit year, etc. The goal is to have a uniform representation across all charts for monthly data, annual data, daily data, etc. My question is this: how do I find the number format string for the cells (or any cell that is part of that series, as I will be assuming all cells that make up a particular series have the same format) that represent the source data for the chart? Note: I can assume that the chart will always point to a range of cells (not, for example, an array of data).

• Splitting a string with variable number of spaces VBA

  I have a file with a bunch of number in columns. These numbers are separated by variable number of spaces. I want to skip the first line and get all the other lines and separte each number on the line. Finally, I want to write each number on Excel. I've been able to get the lines and write them on Excel but I can't separate each number (I'm getting the whole line as one string). Does any body know how to split a string that has a variable number of spaces? Here is my code. • java detect clicked buttons

  I have multiple panels on a JFrame window. I am going to populate each panel differently every time. For example: i start the GUI: (image center panel, right panel, bottom panel). Center panel is populated with 20 buttons, right panel with 10 buttons and bottom panel with 3. second start of the GUI (same gui). Center panel has 50 buttons, right panel has 12 buttons, bottom has 3. So everytime there is a random number of buttons, impossible to be all uniquely named. Given the fact that I don't have a unique name for each button (just a list) I would like to know which buttons were clicked according to the panel they belong to. is that possible?

• Is window.location.href = 'some_page.html' followed by search engines?

  Currently our website uses links to allow the user to change their locale. The problem with this is that you get a lot of random outlinks from each page on the site to... the same page, in other languages. When a search engine traverses this, it gets an excessively complex view of the site. We were going to change it to a form post to avoid this. However, it seems to me that we should just be able to change it to an onclick="window.location.href='change_my_language.php'" rather than an href="change_my_language.php". Am I right? Or do the major search engines scan for and follow this sort of thing nowadays?

What I need to do is to perform some operations so that I can compare the two data entries in each 'row'. To be more precise, one column has constant numbers all the way down, whereas the other column varies.   I am trying to find a reference for approximately how many CPU cycles various operations require. I don't need exact numbers (as this is going to vary between CPUs) but I'd like something relatively credible that gives ballpark figures that I could cite in discussion with friends. As an example, we all know that floating point division takes more CPU cycles than say doing a bitshift. I'd guess that the difference is that the division is around 100 cycles, where as a shift is 1 but I'm looking for something to cite to back that up. Can anyone recommend such a resource?

  I want to remove all special characters from a string. Allowed characters are A-Z (uppercase or lowercase), numbers (0-9), underscore (_), or the dot sign (.). • Haskell - mapping the odd placed values and the even placed values differently

  Hey guys, is there an easy way. To take a list of numbers, say 123456. Then multiply the odd placed by three and the even placed by 1. i.e. (1 * 3) + (2 * 1) + (3 * 3) + (4*1) + (5*3) + (6*1) i was thinking the map function somewhere along the lines. But i don't know how to map *3 to just the odd placed values.   Having trouble figuring out how to match a phrase string to a phrase in file stream. The file I'm dealing with contains random words such as: 3 little pigs built houses and 1 little pig went to the market etc. for many lines Using "little pig" as my pattern and matcher.find() I can locate 2 matches: "little pig" and "little pigs". However, I only want it to match "little pig". What can I do? I thought about using matcher.lookingAt() but I wouldn't know how to set a proper region when I can't rely on the file string phrases I'm matching being on separate lines.

• Child service not writing to event log

  I am having a very simple (but incredibly frustrating) issue with a parent service and the child service. Let's call the parent service "Service A" and the child "Service B". Both services reside on the same box. Using WCF Storm, when I send Service B a message, I see lots of entries in the event viewer for it. However, if I send a message to Service A, which calls Service B, I only see entries from Service A. So for some reason, the child logs are not written when the parent calls it, but if I call it myself, the logs do indeed show up, so I know it's not a problem with the logging or anything like that. As things stand, i get both whats in the designer and in formload in the comboboxes. How can i stop this? I also have an edit function, so when i edit a record, i want the combo box to be populated by what is already saved. Just a random question, can you stop the user entering a value that isn't in the combo box? Thankyou

  Consider the 0/1 knapsack problem. The standard Dynamic Programming algorithm applies only when the capacity as well as the weights to fill the knapsack with are integers/ rational numbers. What do you do when the capacity/weights are irrational? The issue is that we can't memoize like we do for integer weights because we may need potentially infinite decimal places for irrational weights - leading to an infinitely large number of columns for the Dynamic Programming Table . Is there any standard method for solving this? Any comments on the complexity of this problem? Any heuristics? What about associated recurrences like (for example): f(x)=1, for x< sqrt(2) f(x)=f(x-sqrt(2))+sqrt(3)

• Simple Serialization Faster Than JSON? (in Ruby)

  I have an application written in ruby (that runs in the JRuby VM). When profiling it, I realized that it spends a lot (actually almost all of) its time converting some hashes into JSON. These hashes have keys of symbols, values of other similar hashes, arrays, strings, and numbers. Is there a serialization method that is suitable for such an input, and would typically run faster than JSON? It would preferable if it is has a Java or JRuby-compatible gem, too. I am currently using the jruby-json gem, which is the fastest JSON implementation in JRuby (as I am told), so the move will most likely be to a different serialization method rather than just a different library.   OK this is a 2 part question, I've seen and searched for several methods to get a list of unique values for a class and haven't been practically happy with any method so far. So anyone have a simple example code of getting unique values for instance for this code.   hi, I'm using JRebel with Scala and I'm quite frequently experiencing the need for restart of server due to the fact that JRebel is unable to load a class if the superclass was changed. This is done mainly when I change anonymous functions as I can deduce from the JRebel error desription: Class 'mypackage.NewBook$$anonfun$2' superclass was changed from 'scala.runtime.AbstractFunction1' to 'scala.runtime.AbstractFunction2' and could not be reloaded. Is there any way, how can I design my code to avoid this? Does scala compiler take the functions, numbers them from one as they appear in source code?

• Add results from MySQL?

  Not quite sure how descriptive that title was but this is what I want to do. I scripted a URL shortener today and it's working fine, I just want to add some stats on the bottom of it saying how many links there are and how many clicks there are. Now everytime a user clicks one of the links it +1 the column in the database then it redirects the user. I want to query that and add all of those numbers together from each row.   Hi I'm stuck on a problem and if possible I will need help from the community. I'm not looking for a ready-made solution, but something which would help me to produce the result. I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Here an example of a JSON object: [ { "name": "my checkbox name", "type": "checkbox", "value": "one,two,three" } { "name": "my edit text", "type": "text", "value": "" } ...] This JSONObject could be totally random. I could have 2 text views, 3 select menus, 1 text view and so on. The goal is to iterate over this JSONObject and create the appropriate elements within my android code. To produce the result I've thought of a simple switch which would render one by one my different JSONObject to an android widget. But after that how could I have access of every property of every widget rendered? Thank you.

• Scanning FedEx labels into a visual basic program

  I have a program that has tracking numbers entered into it and it stores them in a database and i would like to add a scanner to the mix. The scanner is acting like a keyboard and scannes just fine, the problem is scanning a FedEx number gives a 32 digit number and i am only iterested in the tracking number portion of it. I saw an example on the web for an excel macro and tried to modify it but it doesnt seem to work. Is there something i could do to just get the 12 digit number? This is what it looks like so far.
