  • ModalPopupExtender doesn't work on IE6 frame layout

    I'm using a "frame" layout similar to the one in this excellent answer: a div #top at the top of the page, a div#left on the left, and a div #main with the main content. The #top and #left divs contain navigation menus. Now I want to use a popup div using the AjaxControlToolkit ModalPopupExtender inside the content (#main) div. This works fine on IE8 (where #top, #left, #main all have position:fixed), but when I run it on IE6, the modal background only covers the #main div - I need it to cover the whole of the page including the #top and #left navigation divs. Looking at the script for ModalPopupExtender, it appears to be searching up the parent hierarchy until it finds a parent with position relative or absolute. And in the IE6 rendering, the #main div has position:absolute because position:fixed is not supported, which I guess explains what is happening. Any suggestions for the best/easiest way to get this working properly on IE6? Ideally without modifying the ModalPopupExtender code, but I'll do this if I have to and it's the best solution.

While it blocks the browser during the active request, what is the most efficient way to change the cursor to the hourglass or display a wait .gif? Perhaps set the cursor as it enters this function then change it back in the success or complete function? Any advice is appreciated. Thank You.

  • SASS mixin for swapping images / floats on site language (change)

    Currently using SASS on a website build. It is my first project using it, tried a little LESS before and liked it. I made a few basic mixins and variables with LESS, super useful stuff! I am trying to get my head around SASS mixins, and syntax, specifically for swapping images when the page changes to a different language, be that with body ID changing or <html lang="en">. And, swapping floats around if, for example, a website changed to chinese. So a mixin where float left is float left unless language is AR and then it becomes float right. With LESS I think it would be something like: .headerBg() when (@lang = en) {background-image:url(../img/hello.png);} .headerBg() when (@lang = it) {background-image:url(../img/ciao.png);} .header {.headerBg(); width: 200px; height:100px} .floatleft() when (@lang = en) { float: left;} .floatleft() when (@lang = ar) { float: right;} .logo {.floatleft();} Its the syntax I am having problems with combined with a brain melting day.

  • Phantom horizontal scroll bars on the whole window in IE.

    I'm working on a website layout you can find at dev.movingcost.com In most browsers, everything seems fine... but I'm getting a horizontal scroll bar on the window when viewing the page in IE. I'm using a fixed width of 960px with auto margins to center the content. I've even tried using "overflow-x:hidden" on the html and body tags to no avail... any clue where the problem is?

When i hover over the main hover links (blue ones) quickly eg going horizontally quickly hovering each top menu, the submenus don't close.     What is Logically correct and W3C valid way to clear float? zoom:1 is not valid by W3C and IE8 don't have hash layout problem overflow:hidden and overflow:hidden were not made to do this,as the spec intended overflow to be used <div class="clear"/> is not semantically correct and i don't want to add extra markup. clearfix hack generates content that really hasn’t any semantic value. I've asked many questions and read many articles on this issue but haven't find best way.

    Let me try to explain by example. Say website is hosted at example.com (NOT www.example.com). In order to serve static content cookie-free, I've chosen to use a different domain example-static.com. Now, lets consider that my static content is currently served like this: http://example.com/js/script.js http://example.com/css/style.css http://example.com/media/image.jpg ** Now I create a CNAME record aliasing example-static.com to my main domain i.e. example.com so that the static content is served as such: http://example-static.com/js/script.js http://example-static.com/css/style.css http://example-static.com/media/image.jpg ** Is that all I have to do? Will all browsers execute JavaScript files and load web fonts without any security concerns? OR should I be using some .htaccess rules to modify header information and the like? PS: It would be great if you can provide what rules should be added, if need be.

  • Playing BG Music Across Activities in Android

    Hello! First time to ask a question here at stackoverflow. Exciting! Haha. We're developing an Android game and we play some background music for our intro (we have an Intro Activity) but we want it to continue playing to the next Activity, and perhaps be able to stop or play the music again from anywhere within the application. What we're doing at the moment is play the bgm using MediaPlayer at our Intro Activity. However, we stop the music as soon as the user leaves that Activity. Do we have to use something like Services for this? Or is MediaPlayer/SoundPool enough? If anyone knows the answer, we'd gladly appreciate your sharing it with us. Thanks!

    I'm having trouble getting my layout working correctly, I have a main div and a sidebar div these are both float: left if the screen size is resized or if its viewed on screen smaller that what I have designed on (1920x1080) then the sidebar div drops below the main content.     On the following website, www.josecvega.com, I have a navigation bar with years that link to sections on that same page. Unfortunately it is not working they way I hoped, when the user selects a year it moves to the section of the page, but puts that section on the top of the page. I have a fixed div on the top of the page that covers the sections and prevents it from properly displaying. What can I do for this to work? It hard to explain my situation, but it can be seen by going to www.josecvega.com and clicking one of the years.

But, When I see that page on my remote machine It shows my IMAGE on the left, instead of right side.   • Text Link is Hiding my Image Link

    I have a image where text/link is overlayed on top. My problem is that sometimes the text in the foreground will hide the link in the image in the background. I assume this is because the text box forms an invisible rectangle around the text, thus creating a region that appears it should belong to the image but is actually being covered by the text. I am wondering if it is possible that when I mouse over this region, I will be linking to my image link as oppose to my text link (see illustration). http://jsfiddle.net/WHpMr/

  • JQuery Accordion - bottom-up in stead of top-down

    Hi there, I have a question about the accordion plugin for jQuery. Basically, I've got it to work on my site nicely, there's just one thing that I'd have liked it to do and that is bottom-up opening in stead of top-down. What I mean by that is that my 3 buttons just stand in the vertical menu (div) in the bottom. And when you click it, they'll slide open but upwards, not downwards. Is there a way to achieve this easily? I've gone through the documentation, but can't find any native support for it, so I was wondering if it was possible to do it in the javascript of the plugin itself. Thanks in advance.
