  I have built a xl2tpd/ipsec server on my ubuntu 12.04.3, and I managed to make a l2tp vpn connection to the xl2tpd server from my android phone. • Prevent line break between two elements in CSS

  For some basic layout work I'm doing, I'd like links that immediately follow a price to always be shown on the same line as the price. The price text is wrapped in a <span class="price"> tag while the link uses the buy-link class as in <a href="/buy" class="buy-link">Buy Now</a>. I'm looking for CSS that will automatically prevent line breaking between the span and a tag but I'm either missing something or it can't be done. I can easily prevent line breaks within the two tags - but not between them. I want to avoid wrapping both tags in a span with a white-space: nowrap manually and use pure CSS if possible.

• Problem installing Maven plugin (m2eclipse) in Eclipse (Galileo)

  I have Eclipse Galileo (for Java EE Developers) installed, and I'm now trying to get the m2eclipse Maven plugin installed as well. I follow the basic steps described at http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/installing-m2eclipse.html, and it seems to be installing just fine. However, after restarting Eclipse after the install it doesn't seem to be anywhere. I should for instance have the ability to create a new maven project, but when the new-project wizard opens, there is no folder for Maven (I also cannot find any reference to it in the context menus of the existing projects I have). When I click at Help About Eclipse Installation Details, I find "Maven Integration for Eclipse (Required)" in the tab "Installed Software", yet another thing pointing towards a successful installation (but I can't find it under the "Plug-ins" tab, should it be there too?)... I feel like I'm just missing something very obvious, but right now I just don't see it...

• Is it possible to access a Silverlight control via the COM automation model?

  What I'm trying to attempt is to access methods on a Silverlight control via the COM automation model. Theoretically it should be possible, as exposing the Silverlight control's methods as scriptable members exposes them through an IDispatch interface. I have been able to access the IDispatch interface through the automation model correctly but when I attempt to call a method on the exposed interface via Invoke it crashes. I was wondering if anyone knew whether this was expected behaviour, i.e. I'm violating some basic sandboxing requirement, or whether this should work and it is just something in my implementation that needs correcting?   In trying to follow the Ubuntu guide for postfix and mailman, I do not understand these directions: This build of mailman runs as list. It must have permission to read /etc/aliases and read and write /var/lib/mailman/data/aliases. • Find height of ContextMenuStrip before showing it

  I have a ContextMenuStrip (ctMenuMassEdit) that I want to display when left-clicking a button (btnMassEdit). I want the ContextMenuStrip to be displayed above the button, i.e. position (0,-ContextMenuStrip.Height) relative to the button: private void btnMassEdit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { ctMenuMassEdit.Show(btnMassEdit, new Point(0, -ctMenuMassEdit.Height)); } However, the Height property is 0 the first time the button is clicked (I assume the ContextMenuStrip isn't created before it is shown the first time), and the result is that the ContextMenuStrip appears on top of the button. The 2nd time I click the button however, it appears in the correct position, so the basic of my logic is at least correct. I tried adding the following before showing the ContextMenuStrip, but it didn't work as hoped: if (!ctMenuMassEdit.Created) { ctMenuMassEdit.CreateControl(); } So, is there a way I can create the ContextMenuStrip before showing it the first time, so I have the correct Height property? I could of course use the hack of showing it, hiding it and showing it again, but that doesn't seem really neat...

• How to propagate spring security login to EJBs?

  Context I have a J2EE application running on a JBoss 4.2.3 application server. The application is reachabe through a web interface. The authentication is done with basic authentication. Inside of the EJBs I ask the security context of the bean for the principal (the name of the logged in user) and do some authorization checks if this user is allowed to access this method of the EJB. The EJBs life inside a different ear than the servlets handling the web frontend, so I can't access the spring application context directly. Required change I want to switch to Spring Security for handling the user login. Question How can I propagate the spring login information to the JBoss security context so I can still use my EJBs without having to rewrite them? Ideas and links I already found a page talking about "Propagating Identity from Spring Security to the EJB Layer", but unfortunatelly it refers to an older version of Spring Security (Acegi) and I'm not familiar enough with Spring Security to make this work with the actual version (3.0.2).

• How does Linq-to-Xml convert objects to strings?

  Linq-to-Xml contains lots of methods that allow you to add arbitrary objects to an xml tree. These objects are converted to strings by some means, but I can't seem to find the specification of how this occurs. The conversion I'm referring to is mentioned (but not specified) in MSDN. I happen to need this for javascript interop, but that doesn't much matter to the question. Linq to Xml isn't just calling .ToString(). Firstly, it'll accept null elements, and secondly, it's doing things no .ToString() implementation does: For example: new XElement("elem",true).ToString() == "<elem>true</elem>" //but... true.ToString() == "True" //IIRC, this is culture invariant, but in any case... true.ToString(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) == "True" Other basic data types are similarly specially treated. So, does anybody know what it's doing and where that's described?

• Managing Team Development with SSAS, TFS, & BIDS

  I am currently a single BI developer over a corporate datawarehouse and cube. I use SQL Server 2008, SSAS, and SSIS as my basic toolkit. I use Visual Studio +BIDS and TFS for my IDE and source control. I am about to take on multiple projects with an offshore vendor and I am worried about managing change. My major concern is manging merges and changes between me and the offshore team. Merging and managing changes to SQL & XML for just one person is bad enough but with multiple developers it seems like a nightmare. Any thoughts on how best to structure development knowing that sometimes there is no way to avoid multiple individuals making changes to the same file?

• Can't locate in @inc during CPAN dependency install performed not as root.

  While trying to do: perl -I'/v1/data/site_perl' -MCPAN -e 'install Log::Dispatch'; I continue to get "Can't locate Params/Validate.pm in @INC." When looking at the output, /v1/data/site_perl is NOT in the @INC displayed, even though I used -I. I am not root so I have changed my CPAN config so that: 'makepl_arg' => q[LIB=/v1/data/site_perl INSTALLSITEMAN1DIR=/v1/data/site_perl/man/man1 INSTALLSITEMAN3DIR=/v1/data/site_perl/man/man3 INSTALLMAN1DIR=/v1/data/site_perl/man/man1 INSTALLMAN3DIR=/v1/data/site_perl/man/man3] So even LIB is set. In a basic script I have: use lib '/v1/data/site_perl'; use Params::Validate; With no problems. How do I make the Log::Dispatch use lib /v1/data/site_perl without a force install? What am I missing?

• Gridview with row headers

  I am using the ASP.NET3.5 gridview control in a new project. My problem is that the gridview presents data in basic tabular format, whereas I want a grid with row header / grouping behaviors. An example of this would be Outlook web interface, which can group emails by date, as well as allowing you to select individual emails to display. My problem: I can't see how this could be easily done with Gridview? I did find a product called Telerik that has a seemingly fancy Gridview, but I am hesitant to spend money on a single components that now also locks me into a third-party framework...

• What features are important in a programming language for young beginners?

  I was talking with some of the mentors in a local robotics competition for 7th and 8th level kids. The robot was using PBASIC and the parallax Basic Stamp. One of the major issues was this was short term project that required building the robot, teaching them to program in PBASIC and having them program the robot. All in only 2 hours or so a week over a couple months. PBASIC is kinda nice in that it has built in features to do everything, but information overload is possible to due this. My thought are simplicity is key. When you have kids struggling to grasp: if X>10 then <DOSOMETHING> There is not much point in throwing "proper" object oriented programming at them. What are the essentials needed to foster an interest in programming?

• Set focus and carret position in textarea according to mouse position, as if user had clicked

  Once a page with a textarea is loaded, I want some textarea to have the focus immediatly if the mouse cursor is inside that textarea. This is the easy part because a onmousehover handler can set the focus. Now, how to I also set the position of the caret? I would like the caret to be where it would be if the user had clicked using the mouse to set the focus/caret. The basic use case is : User clicks on a link and waits (mouse barely moves) A page is delivered, it contains a big textarea only, full of text User types using keyboard Characters are inserted right below the mouse cursor Today the user has to wait until the caret is visible (at the top left of the textarea) and then click to move the caret before typing. • How to track my flash video player embed on other sites

  Setup: an online tv channel with "youtube" like clips and categories our own flash video player which can be embeded into other remote sites as2 flash player Goal: To track who's embeding my videos, at least with basic statistics per domain. Since it's AS2, it's harder to do this. My ideea is that I can create a php page which should be opened each time the player loads on any website; than the flash player can do a "geturl" of the php file which has Google Analytics code or some other decent tracker. The geturl command could contain a variable like the Video Title which already is included in the player; and this title would pass on with GET to the php file and setup a dynamic page title which can be tracked very well. Problem: how to i use the GETURL function without have user's browser open a new tab or window. Is there any hidden way to do it?

• Red5 OflaDemo Missing Java App

  Hi All. I'm trying to run an application on Red5 server. It has the same basic functionality as the bundled demo named OFLADemo. So I installed Red5 and was able to see the welcome screen. I installed an app and tried the demo flash and all went well... But when I tried to install that particular application from /installer I got stuck with a dialog box with this message: installing oflaDemo-r3989-java6.war This may take a couple minutes, please wait. Waited for hours instead of minutes, but nothing happened. I was able to get that specific file from google code, but I don't know where to extract/place it. Any clues?

• Do you have any tips for comments code to keep them in step with the code?

  G'day, I've read both of Steve McConnell's excellent Code Complete books "Code Complete" and "Code Complete 2" and was wondering if people have any other suggestions for commenting code. My commenting mantra could be summed up by the basic idea of expressing "what the code below cannot say". While enjoying this interesting blog post by Jeff about commenting I was still left wondering "When coding, when do you feel a comment is required?" Edit: Oops. Seems to be a duplicate of this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/121945/how-do-you-like-your-comments so sorry for the noise. Thanks to my, seemingly, SO shadow for pointing it out - wouldn't have thought I was that interesting. Now off to read the original post and see if it is relevant. Edit: I meant to emphasise the best appraoch to ensure that your comments will stay in step with the code. Maybe expressing an intent rather than the mechansim for instance.

• Cocos2D, UIScrollView, and initial placement of a scene

  Hello: I am using a UIScrollView to forward touches to Cocos2D as outlined in http://getsetgames.com/2009/08/21/cocos2d-and-uiscrollview/ Everything works great after a few days of working with it, except one thing: when the initial view appears on the screen, the background appears to be scrolled to the center. As soon as I try to scroll around, the image jumps to 0,0, and everything works as normal, except the touches are offset by half the width and height of the background image. Am I overlooking something basic? I can't think of a useful portion of the code that illustrates the issue, as I can't track it down, but would be happy to post code if anyone has any ideas. So every object that needs locking in memcache gets a lock object, which will be polled for access. // pseudo code // try to get a lock int lock; do { lock = Memcache.increment("lock", 1); } while(lock != 1) // ok we got the lock // do something here // and finally unlock Memcache.put("lock", 0); How does such a solution perform?   I have an admin controller located in controllers/admin/admin_controller.rb I also have a pages controller located in controllers/admin/pages_controller.rb pages_controller.rb inherits from admin_controller.rb in routes.rb, I have an admin namespace as such: map.namespace :admin do |admin| admin.resources :pages end I want the admin have basic CRUD functionality in pages_controller.rb (I know how to do that) I want the index and show methods to be available to front-end users I would like the show and index actions to use separate views, but the same code. Questions: Should I create a new pages_controller for the front-end, or share the methods index and show? If share, how would I display separate views depending on whether the url is /admin/pages or /pages If share, should I place pages_controller in /controllers/admin (where it is now) or just in /controllers? In the AssemblyInfo.cs I have the following line: [assembly: PreApplicationStartMethod(typeof(MyAssembly.Initializer), "Initialize")] The Type and method look like this: namespace MyAssembly { public static class Initializer { public static void Initialize() { TranslationKeys.Initialize(); } } } When I rebuild my application and load it in the browser I get the following error: The method specified by the PreApplicationStartMethodAttribute on assembly 'MyWebApp, Version=0.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' cannot be resolved. Type: 'MyAssembly.Initializer', MethodName: 'Initialize'. Verify that the type is public and the method is public and static (Shared in Visual Basic). I really have no idea what the problem is.

• Storing index values in FAST-ESP without modifications

  Hi, first of all I'm totally new to FAST but I already have a couple of issues I need to solve, so I'm sorry if my questions are very basic =) Well, the problem is that I have a field in the FAST index which in the source document is something like "ABC 12345" (please note the intentional whitespaces) but when stored in the index is in the form "ABC 123456" (please note that now there is a single space). If I retrieve all the document values then this specific value is OK (with all the whitespaces), my only problem is with the way the value is stored in the index since I need to retrieve and display it to my user just like it appears in the original document, and I don't want to go to the full document just for this value, I want the value that I already have in the index. I think I need to update one of the FAST XML configuration files but I don't have enough documentation at hand in order to decide where to perform the change, index_profile.xml? in the XMLMapper file?
