• Google Maps API limitations

  I am working on a project where I am going to create a map over a specific area, and have some points-of-interest included. Thinking of the ones already included in Google Maps. My first thought was that this could be done in the Google Maps API, but I've never worked with if before so therefor I have some questions about it's limitations and capability. Can I limit the map to one specific area? Can I filter the points-of-interest? Ex. only gas stations and hotels etc. Thats about it to get me started at least. Thanks!

• In DirectShow, what determines the graph source?

  Hi all, I have two machines - A (XP SP2) and B (Win7). Machine B has trouble playing OGM files - enabling subtitles causes a crash in the player. Investigation shows that the DirectShow graphs are quite different. On A, the source is a file source, which produces a stream of subtype OGG, which goes into "Ogg Splitter". On B, the source is an instance of Haali Media Splitter, which produces video, audio, and subtitles as separate streams. Machine A has Haali splitter installed as well, but it is not invoked somehow. Question - what determines the source filter? Is there a file type to preferred source mapping, or does the system load and ask all suitable filters if they would take this file? On machine A, the merit of Haali splitter is higher than that of File source, so it's probably not about relative merits.

  I'm a novice at JSF and I got a couple of questions concerning organizing user authentication there. 1) How can i redirect the registered user to a welcome page (for example welcome.xhtml)? I heard about using Filter or navigation-rule tag, but i didn't found a full-blown tutorial of how it works. 2) How can i tell the server that unauthorized users can access not only the login page but also the registration page? Is there an analog for ASP.NET web.config tag or something like this?

  Let's say we have a view V1 and V2 that is declared like: create view V2 as select V1.*, V2.C1, V2.C2, V2.C3 from V1 join V2 on V1.Key = V2.Key where bla-bla So V2 narrows down the result set of V1 and adds some joins. And there is a retrieval routine in C# IEnumerable<V1> GetData(MyFilter filter, MySortOrder order) {} I want to reuse with V2. Is it possible without performing joins in L2S rather than in database? Should i manually create a base class in the database context or something?

• How to work around a site forbidding me to scrape their images with PHP

  I'm scraping a site, searching for JPGs to download. Scraping the site's HTML pages works fine. But when I try getting the JPGs with CURL, copy(), fopen(), etc., I get a 403 forbiden status. I know that's because the site owners don't want their images scraped, so I understand a good answer would be just don't do it, because they don't want you to. Ok, but let's say it's ok and I try to work around this, how could this be achieved? If I get the same URL with a browser, I can open the image perfectly, it's not that my IP is banned or anything, and I'm testing the scraper one file at a time, so it's not blocking me because I make too many requests too often. From my understanding, it could be that either the site is checking for some cookies that confirm that I'm using a browser and browsing their site before I download a JPG. Or that maybe PHP is using some user agent for the requests that the server can detect and filter out. Anyway, have any idea?

• Expose jar resources over web

  I have a web-service (with Spring-WS). I have a jar with several schemas (schema1.xsd, schema2.xsd and schema3.xsd) which I include in my web service. Is there a way to expose the schemas from the jar through a servlet somehow in my web-service wep app? My Spring MessageDispatcherServlet is mapped to /ws/ I would like my schemas to be exposed to /schemas/schema1.xsd /schemas/schema2.xsd and so on. I have an idea how to do it with a servlet, but it's too verbose and there has to be a nicer way. The way I am thinking is have a servlet filter and everything that hits /schemas/ check if it is in my list of allowed resources and display it. This has to be a server agnostic solution. (For instance http://tuckey.org/urlrewrite/ will not work). Thanks.

• How to use $.get data to replace certain elements in a webpage?

  I'm using jQuery 1.4.2 to navigate smoothly between similar webpages (in ff3). When clicking on a link, a javascript script should load the new html, filter out the right elements and replace them on the current page. It looks like the $(htmlcode) does not do the thing I expected. The actions below work when loading the page directly, but when using the $.get I have the following problems: the find function seems only to look inside a div element called id="page", which is inside the body element one of the elements has <script>...</script>, but the <script>...</script> is not present in the DOM of $(htmlcode).   I keep running into situations where I don't know what event I have to listen to in order to execute my code at the correct time. Is there any way to get a log of all events that is raised? Any way to filter that log based on what object raised the event?   I want to be able to get a list of issues given a: Project Name and Release Version this seems like a basic JIRA soap API 101 request It seems, looking at the documentation: http://docs.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/api/rpc-jira-plugin/latest/index.html?com/atlassian/jira/rpc/soap/JiraSoapService.html you can get issues by: Filter SearchTerms SearchTerms and Project but not the above. Is this a complete oversight or i am missing something i would expect to see something like this: RemoteIssue[] issues = _soapService.getIssues(string project_, string version_) any help? UPDATE: I see that JIRA 4.0 is out but i can't find any documentation if the API has changed to support this request above. Can anyone find this link to answer that questions.

• How save JavaScript and HTML in option without it being auto-escaped?

  And there I thought I knew Wordpress well. It now seems that update_option() auto-escapes code. If I want to save some Javascript or HTML code in an option, this behavior renders the code unusable. I refuse to do a str_replace on the returned value to filter out every backslash. There has to be a better way. Here's the PHP for the text box to enter some code: $option = unserialize(get_option('option')); <textarea name="option[box]"><?php echo $option['box']; ?></textarea> This is what happens after submitting the form (in essence): update_option('option', serialize($_POST)); Any ideas?

  I work in a call centre and have been told by my manager that when there are no calls coming through they're happy for me to read stuff on the internet. There is a net filter in place but I can access SO from work which is always handy. I'm searching for articles that will make me a generally better programmer. I code in Python but combine it with Postgres and JS quite a lot if that helps. I'm currently reading Dive into python3 but I fear it won't last me much longer and would really like to expand my programming ability.

  I was wondering if you know of a way I could filter a mysql query to only show the ‘alpha’ characters from a specific field So something like SELECT col1, col2, **alpha_chars_only(col3)** FROM table I am not looking to update only select. I have been looking at some regex but without much luck most of what turned up was searching for fields that only contain ‘alpha’ chars. In a much watered down context... • Confused by "let" in Clojure

  I just started playing with Clojure, and I wrote a small script to help me understand some of the functions. It begins like this: (def *exprs-to-test* [ "(filter #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(remove #(< % 3) '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" "(distinct '(1 2 3 4 3 2 1))" ]) Then it goes through *exprs-to-test*, evaluates them all, and prints the output like this: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (do (println "===" (first (read-string exstr)) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval (read-string exstr))) ) ) The above code is all working fine. However, (read-string exstr) is repeated so I tried to use let to eliminate the repetition like so: (doseq [exstr *exprs-to-test*] (let [ex (read-string exstr)] ( (do (println "===" (first ex) "=========================") (println "Code: " exstr) (println "Eval: " (eval ex)) ) )) ) But this works once for the first item in *exprs-to-test*, then crashes with a NullPointerException. Why is the addition of let causing the crash?

• Is there an Objective-C algorithm like `transform` of the C++ STL?

  My goal is to have an array that contains all filenames of a specific extension, but without the extension. There's an elegant solution to get all filenames of a specific extension using a predicate filter and instructions on how to split a path into filename and extension, but to combine them I would have to write a loop (not terrible, but not elegant either). Is there a way with Objective-C (may be similar to the predicate mechanism) to apply some function to every element of an array and put the results in a second array, like the transform algorithm of the C++ STL does?

• Major inconsistencies in Zend Framework

  Okay first of all let me just say Zend Framework is the greatest tool I have ever used in 30+ years of programming (well, for web development, Qt wins the desktop market). However, through my use I have noticed some glaring and annoying inconsistencies. For instance, Zend_Form_Element's have a setAttrib() method. Now why the hell is this the only method in that API which is abbrev.? Why then am I using setRequired() instead of setReq()? I have more examples, I am extremely nerd raged about this. It is completely ruining what could have been God's gift to web development. FOR FUTURE REFERENCE NEVER ABBREV. • Using PHP's $_COOKIE to create cookie.txt for cURL

  Hi, I'm running Drupal and Mediawiki on my server under the same domain. They are connected to each other with extensions/modules. Meaning if I log in to Mediawiki, it automatically logs into Drupal also. Mediawiki has some extensions that filter the information shown on the page. What I want to do is to show that filtered information from Mediawiki on my Drupal page. I'm trying to fetch the data with PHP cURL, but I'm not able to force it to use the login information. How can I convert PHP's $_COOKIE into cURL cookie.txt format? I suppose after that I'm able to fetch the data from Mediawiki with the right permissions. • Prevent log4net to send duplicate issues via SMTP

  Hi, we have bridged our log4net with Jira using SMTP. Now we are worried that since the site is public what could happen to the Jira server if we get alot of issues in the production environment. We have already filtered on Critical and Fatal, but we want to see either some acumulator service on log4net or a plain filter which identifies repeating issues and prevents them from being sent via Email. Preferably without having to change the error reporting code, so a config solution would be best. I guess dumping the log into a db and then create a separate listener some smart code would be a (pricy) alternative.

  I have an automatically binded DataGridView that obtains data and update data directly from a Strongly Typed Dataset and its TableAdapter. the DataGridView allows data editing but I'm having issues dealing with bad formatted data input. For example, one of the columns is a date, formatted in the database as datetime, 11/05/2010. You can edit the date and the DataGridView opens a TextBox in wich you can enter letters, simbols and other unauthorised characters. When you finish editing the cell if has such bad data it throws a System.FormatException How can I prevent some data to be entered? Is there a way to "filter" that data before it is sent back to the DataGridView?

  Hi, I'm refactoring some specs, in controller specs I have a before(:each) which sets up things required in the session my before filter is... config.before(:each, :type => :controller) do ... session[:current_user] = @user session[:instance] = @instance ... end @user and @instance are also set in the before(:each) i've just hidden them for readability here I get the following error when running the controller tests undefined method `session' for nil:NilClass I would expect the global before callbacks to have the same things as the ones in the individual tests but I guess maybe they are loaded before the rails environment has been initialised? • EF Query using .Contains() and .ToLowerInvariant() Results in no matches when match is found at the end of a string

  Is it possible to step into a linq query? I have a linq to entity framework 4 query in it's simplest form: List = List.Where(f => f.Value.ToString().ToLowerInvariant().Contains(filter.ToLowerInvariant())); It's a query against an Entity Framework DbContext and I'm having trouble seeing why it works for something like: List searching for 001 yields no results against the following list Test001 Test002 Test003 Test004 However any other search yields results (Such as t00 or Test) Update Basically I'm looking for why a query such as the above wouldn't return a result when I'm using a contains and the value matches the end of a string vs just the middle or begining. It's really confusing. OK, it appears to have something to do with ToLowerInvariant() - when I removed that method it works just fine.

  I'm trying to port the unix utility ldd to windows, because dependency walker and cygcheck don't quite give me the usage I'm looking for. (also for the learning experience) Ive been looking all over MSDN, for a windows API that lists dll dependencies of an executable, or even the storage format in the complied exe (just to filter it out), but I've been unable to find anything. If anyone knows what API call windows uses for listing modules to load, or what patterns I can search for in an executable to find modules to load, please help me out :) thanks! -note: I'm not looking to profile for dynamic modules, just list the ones that are required at runtime
