  • strcasecmp in C returns 156 instead of 0, any ideas why?

    I have the following code: printf("num: %d\n", strcasecmp(buf, "h\n")); And I get the following results when I try plugging in different letters: a: -7 g: -1 i: 1 j: 2 h: 156 H: 156 Should strcasecmp not return 0 when buf is equal to H or h? Any ideas why it's returning 156? I need to figure out how to check whether the user types H or h. Thanks!

  • How can I compact the VHD file with Ubuntu?

    I use windows server 2008r2 with role Hyper-V. The guest system is Ubuntu 12.04 LTC. It is situated on the dynamic virtual hard disk. I want to compact this VHD (The real size is 50 GB, 360 GB on the disk). But I can not do this, because the Ubuntu file system is not NTFS. What do I need (gparted, sdelete, ...) for solving this problem? The main problem is that the filesystem is not NTFS, but ext4.

  • Correct way to model recursive relationship in Django

    My application has two node types: a parent node which can hold recursive child nodes. Think of it like the post-comment system in SO, but comments can be recursive: parent_1 child_11 child_12 child_121 child_3 parent_2 child_21 child_211 child_2111 Important to note that the parent nodes have different attributes and behavior than the child nodes. What is the correct (and presumably most efficient) way of modeling this relationship in Django?

  • What are the benefits of using ORM over XML Serialization/Deserialization?

    I've been reading about NHibernate and Microsoft's Entity Framework to perform Object Relational Mapping against my data access layer. I'm interested in the benefits of having an established framework to perform ORM, but I'm curious as to the performance costs of using it against standard XML Serialization and Deserialization. Right now, I develop stored procedures in Oracle and SQL Server that use XML Types for either input or output parameters and return or shred XML depending on need. I use a custom database command object that uses generics to deserialize the XML results into a specified serializable class. By using a combination of generics, xml (de)serialization and Microsoft's DAAB, I've got a process that's fairly simple to develop against regardless of the data source. Moreover, since I exclusively use Stored Procedures to perform database operations, I'm mostly protected from changes in the data structure.     I've been mandated to write an application to migrate the Active Directory access models to another environment. Here's the context: I'm stuck with VB.NET 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0; The application must use the Windows authenticated user to manage AD; The objects I have to handle are Groups, Users and OrganizationalUnits; I intend to use the Façade design pattern to provider ease of use and a fully reusable code; I plan to write a factory for each of the objects managed (group, ou, user); The use of Attributes should be useful here, I guess; As everything is about the DirectoryEntry class when accessing the AD, it seems a good candidate for generic types. Obligatory features: User creates new OUs manually; User creates new group manually; User creates new user (these users are services accounts) manually; Application reads an XML file which contains the OUs, groups and users to create; Application informs the user about the OUs, groups and users that shall be created; User specifies the domain environment where to migrate the XML input file designated objects; User makes changes if needed, and launches the task operations; Application performs required by the XML input file operations against the underlying AD as specified by the user; Application informs the user upon completion. Linear features: User fetches OUs, groups, users; User changes OUs, groups, users; User deletes OUs, groups, users; The application logs AD entries and operations performed, plus errors and exceptions; Nice-to-have features: Application rollbacks operations on error or exception. I've been working for weeks now to get acquainted with the AD and the System.DirectoryServices assembly. But I don't seem to find a way to be fully satisfied with what I'm doing and always looking for better. I have studied Bret de Smet's Linq to AD on CodePlex, but then again, I can't use it as I'm stuck with .NET 2.0, so no Linq! But I've learned about Attributes, and seen that he's working with generic types as he codes a DirectorySource class to perform the operations for OUs, groups and users. Any suggestions?     Using the Windows hosts file, one can redirect traffic for a domain to a specific IP address, e.g. domainA.com -- 127.0.0.1 I am looking for a SIMPLE way to do the same, but for a target domain name not for a target IP address (as this is dynamic), I.e. domainA.com -- domainB.com Addition: After the getting some initial answers I think I need to concretise my question. Situation: I have an application which looks up the IP of the target domain via DNS and then connects via HTTP to the IP address. I do not have control over any proxy settings. Option 1 Basically I am looking for a way to: intercept DNS requests for a domainA.com launch a DNS request for a domainB.com serve the IP of domainB.com in response to the request for domainA.com Without running an entire DNS server. Option 2 If a DNS server is the only way, in the alternative I would also be happy with an solution to how to define a non-standard DNS-server for a single application. Any ideas for wrapper applications, etc?

    Hi, all. I'm pretty new to C++, and I'm writing a small library (mostly for my own projects) in C++. In the process of designing a type hierarchy, I've run into the problem of defining the assignment operator. I've taken the basic approach that was eventually reached in this article, which is that for every class MyClass in a hierarchy derived from a class Base you define two assignment operators like so: class MyClass: public Base { public: MyClass& operator =(MyClass const& rhs); virtual MyClass& operator =(Base const& rhs); }; // automatically gets defined, so we make it call the virtual function below MyClass& MyClass::operator =(MyClass const& rhs); { return (*this = static_cast<Base const&>(rhs)); } MyClass& MyClass::operator =(Base const& rhs); { assert(typeid(rhs) == typeid(*this)); // assigning to different types is a logical error MyClass const& casted_rhs = dynamic_cast<MyClass const&>(rhs); try { // allocate new variables Base::operator =(rhs); } catch(...) { // delete the allocated variables throw; } // assign to member variables } The part I'm concerned with is the assertion for type equality. I looked into Boost.TypeTraits, and I came close by doing BOOST_MPL_ASSERT((boost::is_same<BOOST_TYPEOF(*this), BOOST_TYPEOF(rhs)>));, but since rhs is declared as a reference to the parent class and not the derived class, it choked. Now that I think about it, my reasoning seems silly -- I was hoping that since the function was inline, it would be able to check the actual parameters themselves, but of course the preprocessor always gets run before the compiler. But I was wondering if anyone knew of any other way I could enforce this kind of check at compile-time.

  • How to set up JBoss with S3_Ping on AWS?

    I'm looking into running clustered JBoss on Amazon Web Services (AWS). I'd like to try out S3_PING, i.e. making JBoss use an S3 bucket for dynamic node discovery etc, since no multicast is available. I found a piece of example config XML related to S3_Ping, but I'm not sure where in JBoss installation you're supposed to configure this. So, what JBoss config files would I need to tweak to get S3_PING working? Can anyone point me to a more complete example? JBoss 5.1.0 GA. (This is probably more a JGroups/JBoss question than anything else. I've already got the S3 bucket for this set up, so no problem there.)

  • How can I list the properties of an object programmatically in VB6?

    A friend of mine is working on a legacy VB6 project. I haven't touched that language in ten years, so I'm pretty rusty. Anyway, is there any kind of reflection API for VB6? Specifically, he needs a way to iterate the properties (and types) of a user-created Class. (In other words, not an external COM object, but an internal "Class Module" as it's called.) How can this be done?

    For most of my document writing I use iWork Pages (from iWork '09), and it's usually fine for me. I don't miss Microsoft Word, except for one simple feature: the ability to number chapter titles and paragraph headers for easy reference in the contents of the document and for cross references. Somehow, I cannot find this feature in Pages '09. It is possible to number headers by setting the style to numbered, but it doesn't mitigate well into the generated dynamic contents, and paragraphs don't follow the numbering of higher level elements it seems. Does anyone know how to make this work?

    I have read in many places that integer overflow is well-defined in C unlike the signed counterpart. Is underflow the same? For example: unsigned int x = -1; // Does x == UINT_MAX? Thanks. I can't recall where, but i read somewhere that arithmetic on unsigned integral types is modular, so if that were the case then -1 == UINT_MAX mod (UINT_MAX+1).

  • new vhost - main host AWstats

    Hi, I just began working at this new job and I have to config a new host for stats with awstats. I once used awstats on my own server, no biggie. Now, I'm on a multi-sites server with the acces_log files nicely splitted. I copied a awstats.conf file from one of the sites that already has (working) stats. I changed the LogFile and SiteDomain values as mentioned from http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/awstats_setup.html#BUILD_UPDATE, saved the conf and ran the commands perl awstats.pl -config=mysite -update and perl awstats.pl -config=mysite -output -staticlinks awstats.mysite.html (yes I changed it with my infos...) PROBLEM IS : whenever I try to access the html file or the dynamic page (with the config option on awstats.pl like my working site does), I get the stats of the MAIN site from access.log itself (and not access_log-mysite) from what it says at the top of the page and from the hostname on the left tab (stats for mysite.com)... what did I do wrong? There's no errors from what I see... Thanks a lot for any help

This content type is also bound to a module, but this module doesn't have any admin screens, all node creation is done through the standard cck interface. any ideas?   • Adding Google Map to Contact Info Page in Drupal

    I'm trying to display a Google Map inside a drupal page. The map will only have the business location marker on it, with no need for a user to submitted their own markers. So far I've loaded the Gmap, Location, and CCK modules. I've attempted to enable a location field for Page content types, which allows me to input an address, but this doesn't display the actual map. I'm sure I'm missing something simple here. Any help?

  • Grails validateable not work for non-persistent domain class

    I followed the instruction here: http://www.grails.org/doc/latest/guide/7.%20Validation.html and added into config.groovy: grails.validateable.classes = [liningtest.Warm'] Then added in src/groovy/Warm.groovy (it's a non-persistent domain class): package liningtest import org.codehaus.groovy.grails.validation.Validateable class Warm { String name; int happyCite; Warm(String n, int h) { this.name = n; this.happyCite = h; } static constraints = { name(size: 1..50) happyCite(min: 100) } } But it just doesn't work (both "blank false" & "size: 0..25") for the "hasErrors" function. It always returns false, even when the name is 25. Is this a Grails bug, if yes, is there any work-around? I'm using Grails 1.3.3 UPDATE: I have updated the simplified code. And now I know that constraint "size" can't be used with "blank", but still does not work.
