• Add child to scene from within a class.

    - by Fecal Brunch
    Hi, I'm new to flash in general and have been writing a program with two classes that extend MovieClip (Stems and Star). I need to create a new Stems object as a child of the scene when the user stops dragging a Star object, but do not know how to reference the scene from within the Star class's code. I've tried passing the scene into the constructor of the Star and doing sometihng like: this.scene.addChild (new Stems ()); But apparently that's not how to do it... Below is the code for Stems and Stars, any advice would be appreciated greatly. package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.Timer; public class Stems extends MovieClip { public const centreX=1026/2; public const centreY=600/2; public var isFlowing:Boolean; public var flowerType:Number; public const outerLimit=210; public const innerLimit=100; public function Stems(fType:Number) { this.isFlowing=false; this.scaleX=this.scaleY= .0007* distanceFromCentre(this.x, this.y); this.setXY(); trace(distanceFromCentre(this.x, this.y)); if (fType==2) { gotoAndStop("Aplant"); } } public function distanceFromCentre(X:Number, Y:Number):int { return (Math.sqrt((X-centreX)*(X-centreX)+(Y-centreY)*(Y-centreY))); } public function rotateAwayFromCentre():void { var theX:int=centreX-this.x; var theY:int = (centreY - this.y) * -1; var angle = Math.atan(theY/theX)/(Math.PI/180); if (theX<0) { angle+=180; } if (theX>=0&&theY<0) { angle+=360; } this.rotation = ((angle*-1) + 90)+180; } public function setXY() { do { var tempX=Math.random()*centreX*2; var tempY=Math.random()*centreY*2; } while (distanceFromCentre (tempX, tempY)>this.outerLimit || distanceFromCentre (tempX, tempY)<this.innerLimit); this.x=tempX; this.y=tempY; rotateAwayFromCentre(); } public function getFlowerType():Number { return this.flowerType; } } } package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.Timer; public class Star extends MovieClip { public const sWide=1026; public const sTall=600; public var startingX:Number; public var startingY:Number; public var starColor:Number; public var flicker:Timer; public var canUpdatePos:Boolean=true; public const innerLimit=280; public function Star(color:Number, basefl:Number, factorial:Number) { this.setXY(); this.starColor=color; this.flicker = new Timer (basefl + factorial * (Math.ceil(100* Math.random ()))); this.flicker.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, this.tick); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, this.hover); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, this.drop); this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, this.drag); this.addChild (new Stems (2)); this.flicker.start(); this.updateAnimation(0, false); } public function distanceOK(X:Number, Y:Number):Boolean { if (Math.sqrt((X-(sWide/2))*(X-(sWide/2))+(Y-(sTall/2))*(Y-(sTall/2)))>innerLimit) { return true; } else { return false; } } public function setXY() { do { var tempX=this.x=Math.random()*sWide; var tempY=this.y=Math.random()*sTall; } while (distanceOK (tempX, tempY)==false); this.startingX=tempX; this.startingY=tempY; } public function tick(event:TimerEvent) { if (this.canUpdatePos) { this.setXY(); } this.updateAnimation(0, false); this.updateAnimation(this.starColor, false); } public function updateAnimation(color:Number, bright:Boolean) { var brightStr:String; if (bright) { brightStr="bright"; } else { brightStr="low"; } switch (color) { case 0 : this.gotoAndStop("none"); break; case 1 : this.gotoAndStop("N" + brightStr); break; case 2 : this.gotoAndStop("A" + brightStr); break; case 3 : this.gotoAndStop("F" + brightStr); break; case 4 : this.gotoAndStop("E" + brightStr); break; case 5 : this.gotoAndStop("S" + brightStr); break; } } public function hover(event:MouseEvent):void { this.updateAnimation(this.starColor, true); this.canUpdatePos=false; } public function drop(event:MouseEvent):void { this.stopDrag(); this.x=this.startingX; this.y=this.startingY; this.updateAnimation(0, false); this.canUpdatePos=true; } public function drag(event:MouseEvent):void { this.startDrag(false); this.canUpdatePos=false; } } }

  • Scala class to implement two Java Interfaces - how?

    - by puudeli
Hi, I have just started learning Scala and I'm now wondering how I could implement two different Java interfaces with one Scala class? Let's say I have the following interfaces written in Java public interface EventRecorder { public void abstract record(Event event); } public interface TransactionCapable { public void abstract commit(); } But a Scala class can extend only one class at a time. How can I have a Scala class that could fulfill both contracts? Do I have to map those interfaces into traits? Note, my Scala classes would be used from Java as I am trying to inject new functionality written in Scala into an existing Java application. And the existing framework expects that both interface contracts are fulfilled.

  • Create Marker Categories & Display Markers on Click Only

    - by MizAkita
I am trying to create marker categories and display markers on click... For example, "Eat", "Banks", "Places of Interest" and clicking on them would produce only the markers in those categories. You can see it live HERE Here is a code snippet: // // var map = null; var gmarkers = []; var gicons = []; var icon = []; function initialize() { var myOptions = { zoom: 13, center: new google.maps.LatLng(37.979183,-121.302381), mapTypeControl: true, mapTypeControlOptions: {style: google.maps.MapTypeControlStyle.DROPDOWN_MENU}, navigationControl: true, mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.ROADMAP } map = new google.maps.Map(document.getElementById("map_canvas"), myOptions); google.maps.event.addListener(map, 'click', function() { infowindow.close(); }); // Add markers to the map // Set up three markers with info windows ///////////////////////// EATS ////////////////////////////////////////////// var point = new google.maps.LatLng(37.988012,-121.311901); var image = 'icons/orangepointer.png'; var marker = createMarker(point,'

Tiger Yogurt
4343 Pacific Avenue
209.952.6042

Get Directions
', image); // this will be gmarkers[0] var point = new google.maps.LatLng(37.987054,-121.311655); var image = 'icons/orangepointer.png'; var marker = createMarker(point,'

M&W Bakery
Cakes & Sandwiches
4343 Pacific Avenue
209.473.3828

On the web visit:
MandWDutchAmericanBakery.com

Get Directions
', image); // this will be gmarkers[1] Currently, all markers display. • How to implement buffering with timeout in RX

    - by Gaspar Nagy
I need to implement an event processing, that is done delayed when there are no new events arriving for a certain period. (I have to queue up a parsing task when the text buffer changed, but I don't want to start the parsing when the user is still typing.) I'm new in RX, but as far as I see, I would need a combination of BufferWithTime and the Timeout methods. I imagine this to be working like this: it buffers the events until they are received regularly within a specified time period between the subsequent events. If there is a gap in the event flow (longer than the timespan) it should return propagate the events buffered so far. Having a look at how Buffer and Timeout is implemented, I could probably implement my BufferWithTimeout method (if everyone have one, please share with me), but I wonder if this can be achieved just by combining the existing methods. Any ideas?

  • Get the caret position when losing focus in WPF

    - by DrLazer
I have two textbox's. I have an event setup for the "onLostFocus" of the textbox's. If i finish typing a word into both boxes one after the other all is well. At the point where i click back on the first textbox i want to click halfway through the word (perfectly resonable thing for a user to do). When the onLostFocus event fires here is my code : void tbox_LostFocus(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { IInputElement focusedelement = FocusManager.GetFocusedElement(this); if (focusedelement is TextBox) { TextBox focusedTextBox = focusedelement as TextBox; int focusIndex = m_commandsStacker.Children.IndexOf(focusedTextBox); int caretIndex = focusedTextBox.CaretIndex; The caret index is 0. At that point I refresh the whole form and set parameters and all other kinds of whizzery, storing the texbox index and caret position to put everything back the same. Why does it return 0 and not the position where the caret should be halfway between the word?

  • Ordering the calling of asynchronous methods in c#

    - by Peter Kelly
Hi, Say I have 4 classes ControllerClass MethodClass1 MethodClass2 MethodClass3 and each MethodClass has an asynchronous method DoStuff() and each has a CompletedEvent. The ControllerClass is responsible for invoking the 3 asynchronous methods on the 3 MethodClasses in a particular order. So ControllerClass invokes MethodClass1.DoStuff() and subscribes to MethodClass1.CompletedEvent. When that event is fired, ControllerClass invokes MethodClass2.DoStuff() and subscribes to MethodClass2.CompletedEvent. When that event is fired, the ControllerClass invokes MethodClass3.DoStuff() Is there a best practice for a situation like this? Is this bad design? I believe it is because I am finding it hard to unit test (a sure sign) It is not easy to change the order I have an uneasy, code-smell feeling about it What are the alternatives in a situation like this?

  • Would a Centralized Blogging Service Work?

    - by viatropos
If there's a better place to ask this, please let me know. Every time I build a new website/blog/shopping-cart/etc., I keep trying to do the following: Extract out common functionality into reusable code (Rubygems and jQuery plugins mostly) If possible, convert that gem into a small service so I never have to deal with a database for the objects involved (by service, I mean something lean and mean, usually built with the Sinatra Web Framework with a few core models. My assumption is, if I can remove dependencies on local databases, that will make it easier and more scalable in the long run (scalable in terms of reusability and manageability, not necessarily database/performance). I'm not sure if that's a good or bad assumption yet. What do you think? I've made this assumption because of the following reason: Most serious database/model functionality has been built on the internet somewhere. Just to name a few: Social Network API: Facebook Messaging API: Twitter Mailing API: Google Event API: Eventbrite Shopping API: Shopify Comment API: Disqus Form API: Wufoo Image API: Picasa Video API: Youtube ... Each of those things are fairly complicated to build from scratch and to make as optimized, simple, and easy to use as those companies have. So if I build an app that shows pictures (picasa) on an Event page (eventbrite), and you can see who joined the event (facebook events), and send them emails (google apps api), and have them fill out monthly surveys (wufoo), and watch a video when they're done (youtube), all integrated into a custom, easy to use website, and I can do that without ever creating a local database, is that a good thing? I ask because there's two things missing from the puzzle that keep forcing me to create that local database: Post API RESTful/Pretty Url API While there's plenty of Blogging systems and APIs for them, there is no one place where you can just write content and have it part of some massive thing. For every app, I have to use code for creating pretty/restful urls, and that saves posts. But it seems like that should be a service! Question is, is that the main point of a website? Will everyone always need "their own blog"? Why not just have a profile and write lots of content on an established platform like StackOverflow or Facebook?

  • ASP -response-flush-flushes-partial-data

    - by Anshu
I am developing a web app with an ASP server side and I use an iframe for data push. An ASP handler flushes every once in a while some javascript to the iframe: context.Response.Write(""); context.Response.Flush(); My problem is that sometimes, when I receive the data, I don't get the full text. For example I will receive this : update('lala'); One workaround I have is to have a thread flushing '..........' every 500ms. (Then I will receive script...... which will complete my javascript.) However I am sure there must be a way to have Response.Flush() sending the whole chunk of data. Does someone have an idea on how to use properly Response.Flush() ? Thank you!

  • How to detect when a tab is focused or not in Chrome with Javascript?

    - by LLer
I need to know if the user is currently viewing the current tab or not in Google Chrome. I tried to use the events blur and focus binded to the window, but only the blur seems to be working. window.addEventListener('focus', function() { document.title = 'focused'; }); window.addEventListener('blur', function() { document.title = 'not focused'; }); The focus event works weird, only sometimes. If I switch to another tab and back, focus event won't activate. But if I click on the address bar and then back on the page, it will. Or if I switch to another program and then back to Chrome it will activate if the tab is currently focused.

  • How to determine which class has called a function

    - by dannyc
Hi, I am working on a Flex Front End at the moment, and have been using the Parsley framework for passing messages/events around. I was wondering if there is a simple way for a function (in this case, an event's constructor) to obtain a reference to the object which called it? This is to ensure that a certain event that I am defining can only be dispatched by one specified class. My thinking is to check the caller of the constructor somehow, and throw an error if it is not of the correct type. I am open to suggestions of alternative approaches here, but I would ideally like to stick to using the Parsley 'MessageHandler' approach if at all possible. Thanks for reading guys..

  • Exceptions and Access Violations in Paint events in Windows

    - by Patrick
After executing some new code, my C++ application started to behave strange (incorrect or incomplete screen updates, sometimes no screen updates at all). After a while we found out that the new code is causing an Access Violation. Strange enough, the application simply keeps on running (but with the incorrect screen updates). At first we thought the problem was caused by a "try-catch(...)" construction (put there by an overactive ex-colleague), but several hours later (carefully inspecting the call stacks, adding many breakpoints, ...) we found out that if there's an Access Violation in a paint event, Windows catches it, and simply continues running the application. Is this normal behavior? Is it normal that Windows catches exceptions/errors during a paint event? Is there a way to disable this? (if not, it would mean that we have to always run in the debugger with all exceptions enabled while testing our code). Patrick

  • Is there a limit on the number of mutex objects that can be created in a Windows process?

    - by young-phillip
I'm writing a c# application that can create a series of request messages. Each message could have a response, that needs to be waited on by a consumer. Where the number of outstanding request messages is constrained, I have used the windows EVENT to solve this problem. However, I know there is a limit on how many EVENT objects can be created in a single process, and in this instance, its possible I might exceed that limit. Does anyone know if there is a similar limit on creation of mutex objects or semaphores? I know this can be solved by some sort of pool of shared resources, that are grabbed by consumers when they need to wait, but it would be more convenient if each request message could have its own sync object.

  • Do PHP-FPM (and other PHP handlers) need execute permissions on the PHP files they're serving?

    - by Andrew Cheong
I read in a post at Server Fault that PHP-FPM needs execute permissions. However, the answer in When creating a website, what permissions and directory structure? only grants read and write permissions to PHP-FPM. Maybe I don't quite understand how PHP handlers (or CGI in general) work, but the two claims seem contradictory to me. As I understand, when Apache / Nginx gets a request for foobar.php, it "passes" the file to an appropriate handler. That is, I imagine it's as if www-root (or apache or whomever the webserver's running as) were to run some command, /usr/sbin/php-fpm foobar.php Actually, no, that's naive, I just realized. PHP-FPM must be a running instance (if it's to be performant, and cache, etc.), so probably PHP-FPM is just being told, "Hey, quick, process this file for me!" In either case, I don't see why execute permissions are necessary. It's not like the webserver needs to literally execute the file, i.e. ./foobar.php Is the Server Fault answer simply mistaken?

Here is the Action Script that I have applied to the frame in which the buttons exist (on a separate layer, see screenshot at: http://www.footprintsfamilyphoto.com/wp-content/themes/Footprints/images/flash_buttonissue.jpg stop (); function babieschildren(event:MouseEvent):void { trace("babies children method was called!!!"); var targetURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.footprintsfamilyphoto.com/portfolio/babies-children"); navigateToURL(targetURL, "_self"); } bc_btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, babieschildren); bc_btn2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, babieschildren); function fams(event:MouseEvent):void { trace("families method was called!!!"); var targetURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.footprintsfamilyphoto.com/portfolio/families"); navigateToURL(targetURL, "_self"); } f_btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fams); f_btn2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, fams); function couplesweddings(event:MouseEvent):void { trace("couples weddings method was called!!!"); var targetURL:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://www.footprintsfamilyphoto.com/portfolio/couples-weddings"); navigateToURL(targetURL, "_self"); } cw_btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, couplesweddings); cw_btn2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, couplesweddings); When I test the movie, I get this error in the output box: "TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference." The test movie does stop on the appropriate frame, but the buttons don't do anything (no URL is opened, and the trace statements don't show up in the output box when the buttons are clicked on the test movie). You can view the .swf file here: www.footprintsfamilyphoto.com/portfolio I'm confident that all 6 buttons do exist in the appropriate frame (frame 133), so I don't think that's what's causing the 1009 error. I also tried deleting each of the three function/addEventListener sections one at a time and testing, and I still got the 1009 error every time. If I delete ALL of the action script except for the "stop ()" line, then I do NOT get the 1009 error. Any ideas?? I'm very new to Flash, so if I haven't clarified something that I need to, let me know!

  • Container item implementation

    - by onurozcelik
Hi, I am working in Train Traffic Controller software project. My responsibility in this project is to develop the visual railroad GUI. We are implementing the project with Qt. By now I am using QGraphicsLinearLayout to hold my items. I am using the layout because I do not want to calculate coordinates of each item. So far I wrote item classes to add the layout. For instance SwitchItem class symbolizes railroad switch in real world. Each item class is responsible for its own painting and events. So far so good. Now I need a composite item that can contain two or more item. This class is going to be responsible for painting the items contained in it. I need this class because I have to put two or more items inside same layout cell. If I don' t put them in same cell I can' t use layout. See the image below. BlockSegmentItem and SignalItem inside same cell. Here is my compositeitem implementation. #include "compositeitem.h" CompositeItem::CompositeItem(QString id,QList<FieldItem *> _children) { children = _children; } CompositeItem::~CompositeItem() { } QRectF CompositeItem::boundingRect() const { FieldItem *child; QRectF rect(0,0,0,0); foreach(child, children) { rect = rect.united(child->boundingRect()); } return rect; } void CompositeItem::paint(QPainter *painter, const QStyleOptionGraphicsItem *option, QWidget *widget ) { FieldItem *child; foreach(child, children) { child->paint(painter,option,widget); } } QSizeF CompositeItem::sizeHint(Qt::SizeHint which, const QSizeF &constraint) const { QSizeF itsSize(0,0); FieldItem *child; foreach(child, children) { // if its size empty set first child size to itsSize if(itsSize.isEmpty()) itsSize = child->sizeHint(Qt::PreferredSize); else { QSizeF childSize = child->sizeHint(Qt::PreferredSize); if(itsSize.width() < childSize.width()) itsSize.setWidth(childSize.width()); itsSize.setHeight(itsSize.height() + childSize.height()); } } return itsSize; } void CompositeItem::contextMenuEvent(QGraphicsSceneContextMenuEvent *event) { qDebug()<<"Test"; } This code works good with painting but when it comes to item events it is problematic. QGraphicsScene treats the composite item like a single item which is right for layout but not for events. Because each item has its own event implementation.(e.g. SignalItem has its special context menu event.) I have to handle item events seperately. Also I need a composite item implementation for the layout. How can I overcome this dilemma?

  • Why this code showing error in W3C validator?

    - by metal-gear-solid
Why this code showing error in W3C validator "character data is not allowed here"
all visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event -- in the living act, the undoubted deed -- there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its feature from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. • Post ASP.Net Form data to another page

    - by william
I have an ASP.Net Page, aspx with its default form. I have a Submit Button for it. Upon clicking, it will post the data to itself. In other words, Button Click Event() from code behind will execute the necessary. After that, I would like to post the same data to another ASp.Net Page, aspx from another domain. So, how can I do it? I tried creating a Form in Button Click Event and a javascript to Submit the Form so that it will post. But the Form is not appearing hence there is already aForm` on the page. Is there anyway to do it?

  • How can I safely raise events in an AsyncCallback?

    - by cyclotis04
    I'm writing a wrapper class around a TcpClient which raises an event when data arrives. I'm using BeginRead and EndRead, but when the parent form handles the event, it's not running on the UI thread. I do I need to use delegates and pass the context into the callback? I thought that callbacks were a way to avoid this... void ReadCallback(IAsyncResult ar) { int length = _tcpClient.GetStream().EndRead(ar); _stringBuilder.Append(ByteArrayToString(_buffer, length)); BeginRead(); OnStringArrival(EventArgs.Empty); }
