• bing maps cost money?

  hi I am building a new web site in asp.net, and im newbie with using maps. For my web site i will need the following functionality: display a map of specific location. display route map between two or more location calculate distance between 2 locations. I found most of the functionality at the Bing Maps interactive SDK site: and it works fine. My questions are: does it cost money to use this SDK ? for the third task, i understand that i will have to use MapPoint Services. (is there another way??) does it code money to use it? I will really appreciate it if you dont send me links, cause my english is not the best one... thanks a lot

Modify the original grammar to remove the left recursion using some procedure Write the grammar originally not to have the left recursion What people normally use for removing (not having) the left recursion with ANTLR? I've used flex/bison for parser, but I need to use ANTLR. The only thing I'm concerned about using ANTLR (or LL parser in genearal) is left recursion removal. In practical sense, how serious of removing left recursion in ANTLR? Is this a showstopper in using ANTLR? Or, nobody cares about it in ANTLR community? I like the idea of AST generation of ANTLR. In terms of getting AST quick and easy way, which method (out of the 2 removing left recursion methods) is preferable?

• Ado.net performance:What does SNIReadSync do?

  We have a query that takes 2 seconds to run in Sql Server Management Studio but it takes 13 seconds to be shown on a client screen. I used dotTrace to profile my source code and noticed there is this SNIReadSync method (part of ADO.net assemblies)that takes a lot of time to do its job(9 seconds).I ran my source over server so I could omit the network effects and the result was the same. It doesn't matter if I'm using OleDBConnection or SqlConnection. It doesn't matter if I'm using a DataReader or a DataSet. Connection pooling does not solve this issue(as my result shows). I mean I know its helping me see the output window which will only be closed when I press enter key So getchar() is basically waiting for me to press enter and then reads a single character .. Now my question.. what is that single character this function is reading ?? • Jquery JQGrid breaks when contentType=application/json?

  I've had to use $.ajaxSetup() to globally change the contentType to application/json $.ajaxSetup({ contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8" }); (See this question for why I had to use application/json http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2792603/aspnet-mvc-why-is-modelstate-isvalid-false-the-x-field-is-required-when-that) But this breaks the jquery jqrid with this error: Invalid JSON primitive: _search The POST data it is trying to send is: _search=false&nd=1274042681880&rows=20&page=1&sidx=&sord=asc Which of is not in json format, so of course it fails. Is there anyway to tell jqrid what contenttype to use? • Spark VS 2010 intellisense

  I was thinking about switching one of my projects (and after that subsequently other projects too) to Spark View Engine but after todays research I ran into problem of a lack of Intellisense for Visual studio 2010. Not only that but it seems that the project is not maintained regularly. So I'm left with a feeling that I should not choose Spark at this time yet. However, apparently NHaml has the same "issues" too. I know it is discussed in more detail here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1451319/asp-net-mvc-view-engine-comparison but I would still like you thoughts on what to choose or just stay with WebForms view engine for now?

  hey guys i'm about to begin a football manager inspired facebook application in php/mysql and had a couple of questions: 1) where would be the best place to host the database? any services offered within great britain would be excellent! 2) does anyone have any ideas on how i could use player statistics as part of the in-game match engine? how would php accomodate this? i would like to make the matches as realistic as possible? 3) lastly i wanted to know whether php/mysql would be the best language to code this game in. i am quite confident within this language and can pick up new skills relatively quickly. but i am worried once again (in reference to number 2) about how i would simulate matches using the data from php. i'd appreciate any pointers. thanks for the help guys!

Questions: What does "bound" mean in this context? What is the difference between bound and unbound super object? When to use super(type, obj) and when super(type, type2)? Would it be better to name the super class like in Mother.__init__(...)?

I'd like to hide exittext after pressing button to make more space for list (button will go up). On second press edittext should be visible again. Edittext and button have "wrap_content" height.   I want to be able to safely send DateTime's over WCF without having to worry about any implicit or automatic TimeZone conversions. The dates I want to send are "logical" dates. year month day, there should be no time component. I have various server processes and client process that run on a variety of machines with different TimeZone settings. What I would like to ensure is that when a user enters a date in a textfield (or uses a date picker component) on any client that exact what they see at data entry is what is sent over WCF, used by the server and seen by other clients when they request the data. I am a little confused by the various questions and answers on this site concerning DateTime.Kind (unspecified, UTC, local).

  Just thought I'd ping this community to see if there's any knowledge on this issue. On android phones SMS messages registered to applications also get sent to the device's inbox. However to prevent clutter, it'd be nice to be able to remove app specific SMS mesg's from the inbox to reduce the potential overflow of those messages. Questions on other google groups on getting a definitive answer on a programmatic way to delete SMS messages from the android inbox don't seem to be pressing. So the scenario: Android App startup. register SMS message types X,Y and Z messages P,Q,X,Y,Z stream in over the course of time, all deposited in inbox Android app detects receipt of X,Y,Z (presumably as part of the program interrupt event) process X,Y,Z Desirement!!! X,Y,Z are deleted from android inbox Has it been done? Can it be done?

• Pylons FormEncode @validate decorator pass parameters into re-render action

  I am attempting to use the validate decorator in Pylons with FormEncode and I have encountered an issue. I am attempting to validate a form on a controller action that requires parameters, and if the validation fails, the parameters aren't passed back in when the form is re-rendered. Here's an example. def question_set(self, id): c.question_set = meta.Session.query(QuestionSet).filter_by(id=id).first() c.question_subjects = meta.Session.query(QuestionSubject).order_by(QuestionSubject.name).all() return render('/derived/admin/question_set.mako') This is the controller action that contains my form. The form will add questions to an existing question set, which is identified by id. My add question controller action looks like this: @validate(schema=QuestionForm(), form='question_set', post_only=True) def add_question(self): stuff... Now, if the validation fails FormEncode attempts to redisplay the question_set form, but it does not pass the id parameter back in, so the question set form will not render. Is it possible to pass the id back in with the @validate decorator, or do I need to use a different method to achieve what I am attempting to do?

• Serving static content from cookie less domain and mod_deflate

  I have two domain. One domain with my main website and the other with js/css/etc.. files, static content. mod_deflate is enabled for both domains, but when i run ySlow in FireFox it says none of my static content is compressed. When i bring back the js or css file to my normal domain it gets compressed right. Only when its served from the other domain is it not compressed. Do i have to do some more configuration for this to work? I am using this line in my .htaccess file AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-javascript text/css text/html text/xml text/plain application/x-httpd-php I tried to but the line in my httpd.conf file but it gives me the same results. PS. If this is more of a serverfault question i am sorry for this. But i see a lot of questions here concerning mod_deflate and ySlow

  In general terms, whats the better election for a method's return type: a concrete type or an interface? In most cases, I tend to use concrete types as the return type for methods. because I believe that an concrete type is more flexible for further use and exposes more functionality. The dark side of this: Coupling. The angelic one: A concrete type contains per-se the interface you would going to return initially, and extra functionality. What's your thumb's rule? • Need themes for the WPF Toolkit controls (espeically DataGrid)

  I just downloaded the nice themes collection from the Codeplex WPF Themes site. I like the WhisterBlue and BureauBlue themes a lot, but neither contain any styles for the new controls included in the WPF Toolkit (DataGrid, DatePicker, and Calendar). It seems like someone out there must have extended the themes to cover these controls, but I've had no luck finding them. So, if you have any leads, I'd love to hear them. I should also mention that I've been trying to port a Silverlight version of the BureauBlue DataGrid theme to WPF (see: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1611135/how-do-you-port-a-theme-from-silverlight-to-wpf), but that has been quite unsuccessful so far.

• "not well-formed" warning when loading client-side JSON in Firefox via jQuery.ajax

  I am using jQuery's ajax method to acquire a static JSON file. The data is loaded from the local file system, hence there is no server, so I can't change the mime type. This works fin in Safari, but Firefox (3.6.3) reports the file to be "not well-formed". I am aware of, and have reviewed, a similar post here on Stack Overflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/677902/not-well-formed-error-in-firefox-when-loading-json-file-with-xmlhttprequest I believe my JSON is well-formed: { "_": ["appl", "goog", "yhoo", "vz", "t"] } My ajax call is straightforward: $.ajax({ url: 'data/tickers.json', dataType: 'json', async: true, data: null, success: function(data, textStatus, request) { callback(data); } }); If I wrap the JSON with a document tag: <document>JSON data</document> as was mentioned in the above referenced posted question, the ajax call fails with a parserror. So: is there a way to avoid the Firefox warning when reading in client-side JSON files?

• Form Elements in ASP.NET Master Pages and Content Pages

  OK, another road bump in my current project. I have never had form elements in both my master and content pages, I tend to have all the forms in the content where relevant. In the current project however, we have a page where they want both. A login form at the top right, and a questions form in the content. Having tried to get this in, I have run in to the issue of ASP.NET moaning about the need for a single form element in a master page. TBH, I really dont get why this is a requirement on ASP.NET's part, but hey ho. Does anyone know if/how I can get the master and content pages to contain form elements that work independantly? If not, can you offer advice on how to proceed to get the desired look/functionality?

• Java enums: Gathering info from another enums

  I made a similar question a few days ago, but now I have new requirements, and new challenges =). As usual, I'm using the animal enums for didactic purposes, once I don't want to explain domain-specific stuff I have a basic enum of animals, which is used by the whole zoo (I can add stuff to it, but must keep compatibility): public enum Animal { DOG, ELEPHANT, WHALE, SHRIMP, BIRD, GIRAFFE; } I need to categorize them in a few, non-related categories, like gray animals (whale (my whale is gray) and elephant), small animals (bird, shrimp and dog), sea animals (whale and shrimp). I could, as suggested in my previous questions, add a lot of booleans, like isGray, isSmall and isFromSea, but I'd like an approach where I could keep this somewhere else (so my enum doesn't need to know much). Something like: public enum Animal { DOG, ELEPHANT, WHALE, SHRIMP, BIRD, GIRAFFE; public boolean isGray() { // What comes here? } } Somewhere else public enum GrayAnimal { WHALE, ELEPHANT; } How is this possible? Am I requesting too much from Java?

  I have this form: <h:form> <h:outputText value="Tag:" /> <h:inputText value="#{entryRecorder.tag}"> <f:ajax render="category" /> </h:inputText> <h:outputText value="Category:" /> <h:inputText value="#{entryRecorder.category}" id="category" /> </h:form> What I'm trying to achieve: When you type in the "tag" field, the entryRecorder.tag field is updated with what was typed. By some logic upon this action the bean also updates its category field. This change should be reflected in the form. Questions: What scope shall I use for EntryRecorder? Request may not be satisfactory for multiple AJAX requests, while session will not work with multiple browser windows per one session. How can I register my updateCategory() action in EntryRecorder so that it is triggered when the bean is updated?

• 10 lines of code per day is the global average!? -- true?

  Ok so last year I participated in a high school curriculum contest thing at a college(I currently attend this college). I actually got 1st in it but was still a bit angry I didn't get every single one right. The most baffling of questions on there was How many lines of code does the average programmer write per day? A. 5 B. 10 C. 25 D. 30 Aside from being a subjective question which depended on language and everything else I was more baffled at what they had as the correct answer. 10. Even on my bad days at my job I touch more than 10 lines of code(either adding, modifying, or deleting) per day. And when I took this test I had only programmed as a hobby where it was common for me to write a few hundred lines for one of my new projects per day. Where are they getting this random number of ten!? Is this published somewhere? A quick googling found me nothing.
