  • How to route packets from Wi-Fi to Ethernet on OSX?

    I have a trouble, configuring a home network. Here is how my devices are connected together: Internet     ? Wi-Fi Router ? MacBook     ? iMac ?ethernet cable? Synology NAS I have no ability to plugin NAS right into the Wi-Fi router. The problem is that MacBook does not see NAS, because they are in different networks — I configured Wi-Fi Router to serve 192.168.10.0/24 addresses, and configured iMac's ethernet connection to use 192.168.20/24 network. Is there a way to setup route from MacBook to the NAS?

  • Command+Tab not working on MacOSX Client with Synergy

    I have an Ubuntu 11.10 laptop paired with an Apple Wireless Keyboard. I'm using the answer on this question to swap the Command and Option keys so that they are mapped like a regular keyboard. This works fine in Ubuntu. Now I have a Macbook Pro running as a Synergy Client. This mapping kind of works on the Macbook, but it only allows me to Command+Tab between two programs, not all of them. Copy, Paste, and other Command keys seem to work fine, but not Command+Tab. It's annoying just because I use the keyboard a lot. And yes, I could switch to syncing the keyboard and the Macbook, but I use the Ubuntu laptop more.

    I have setup DNS64+NAT64 on a machine with 2 interfaces: eth0: public IPv4 address (connected to outside world) eth1: global scope IPv6 address: 2001::/64 I can successfully use ping6 google.com on this machine. Now I want to connect my MacBook to this machine by making it an IPv6-only client and perform some tests, but I do not have an IPv6 address assigned on this MacBook. I'm wondering, how should I manually assign one so as to route all my IPv6 traffic (I will disable IPv4 on my MacBook) to this machine, which will be picked up by DNS64+NAT64 to be converted to IPv4 requests and sent to the outside world?

  • Is there any way to prevent a Mac from creating dot underscore files?

    At work we're letting one of our very tech savvy clients actually help out a little with a few development projects specific to him. However, he uses his own personal Macbook, and as he edits files on our (Windows) networks, his Macbook always creates a bunch of unnecessary meta files that we end up deleting later. For instance, it creates a file called .DS_Store in any directory he opens, as well as "dot underscore" files for each file he edits. So for instance, if he's editing a file called "Main.php", his Macbook will create another file called "._Main.php". I know there are ways to prevent creation of .DS_Store files, but none about how to prevent creation of these hidden files prefixed with dot underscore. Is there any way to turn that off on Macs? Any way to prevent it from creating those files in the first place?

    System Setup: 1. MacBook running Mountain Lion. 2. Wireshark installed and capturing packets (I have "capture all in promiscuous mode" checked) 3. I filter out all packets with my source and destination IP using the following filter ("ip.dst != 192.168.1.104 && ip.src != 192.168.1.104") 4. On the same network as the MacBook, I use an Android device (connecting via WiFi) to make HTTP requests. Expected Results: 1. Wireshark running on the MacBook sees the HTTP request from the Android device. Actual Results: 1. I only see SSDP broadcasts from 192.168.1.1 Question: What do I need to do so that Wireshark, like Firesheep, can see and use the packets (particularly HTTP) from other network devices on the same network?

    So I'll probably be buying a USB wifi adapater if I can't get this to work, but I'm trying. I have a wireless router at home and my Macbook Pro is connected to said wifi. My desktop doesn't have a wifi connection, but I've connected my macbook with my desktop via crossover cable. I enabled internet sharing on my macbook, but my Windows 7 desktop can't get a connection. I tried just regular file sharing and that works fine, but the internet sharing doesn't. I assume the goal is to get my PC to see my mac as the default gateway, but I've had no luck manually setting it.     I have been using a Windows XP ad-hoc wireless network to connect my Macbook to the internet. Everything was working fine until after a restart of the XP machine, the network stopped appearing in the "Choose a wireless network" screen. It does not show up as an available network on the Macbook as well. But when I try to create a new network it shows me the network name. Creating a new network does not work either.

Apple says Snow Leopard only requires an Intel processor, but will a first-gen MacBook Pro get enough of the improvements to be worth upgrading?   • Setting up router: I can get online via Ethernet, and I can connect to router wirelessly, but can't

    I'm setting up a new D-Link N300 router, and trying to connect a MacBook Pro and a MacBook, both running OS X 10.6. As the question says, either computer can connect to the internet when connected to the router via Ethernet. And either one can get on the router's wireless network. But when connected wirelessly (without the Ethernet cable plugged in), neither one can get online. I can't figure out why that would be. Any help appreciated.

I suppose the files related to the software update are compressed packages that have to be saved, opened and decompressed.   • OS X Terminal showing incorrect hostname

    I have a brand new MacBook Air. The reason I mention this is that I want to be clear that I don't think I'm responsible for this problem, as I haven't been hacking up my prefs. Anyhow... When I open Terminal I expect it to show what my PS1 is set to (\h:\W \u\$) however it's not displaying my hostname (Eriks-MacBook), as displayed in System Preferences, it's showing some random string (unknownb88d120cd4b2). Any ideas? Thanks...

    I am running a 15" MacBook Pro (2.66GHz) and 4GB of RAM. I am considering downgrading to a 13 MacBook Pro (2.4GHz) with 8GB of RAM. Most of what I do at work is through Windows and I need to run it virtually. So my real question is when running a virtual machine will the virtual processor be utilizing RAM or part of the hosts processor? My assumption is that it will utilize the allocated RAM but I have seen zero documentation to support that.
