  • "modal" in apple documentation

    - by Crystal
    Apple uses "modal" often in their documentation. Like dismissModalViewController in their titles of methods, or documentation like: "The UIViewController class provides the fundamental view-management model for iPhone applications. The basic view controller class supports the presentation of an associated view in addition to basic support for managing modal views and rotating views in response to device orientation changes. Subclasses such as UINavigationController and UITabBarController provide additional behavior for managing complex hierarchies of view controllers and views." I'm not sure as to what context I should think of when I see modal in the names and documentation. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • How does a youtube embed suppress the buffering of a video file?

    - by usingtechnology
    When a youtube video is displayed within an external site, a poster image is displayed but the actual video is not loaded until the user clicks the play button. At that point, the video file begins to buffer and the video plays. This seems to be different than many sites, where a flash video is embedded and the video begins to buffer automatically in the background on page load, regardless of whether the video is set to autoplay or not. How would you set up a flash video (non-youtube) to have the same behavior as youtube, where buffering does not occur at pageload? Is it an output setting that is selected during the flash video rendering process, or is it accomplished using a different method?

  • hasOwnProperty in javascript

    function Shape() { this.name = "Generic"; this.draw = function() { return "Drawing " + this.name + " Shape"; }; } function welcomeMessage() { var shape1 = new Shape(); //alert(shape1.draw()); alert(shape1.hasOwnProperty(name)); //this is returning false } "welcomeMessage" called on the body.onload event. I expected shape1.hasOwnProperty(name) to return true. But its returning false. Whats the correct behavior?

  • VS2008 is very slow on a specific large C++ solution

    - by VioletRose
    I have a solution with 21 C++ projects and 1 VB.NET project. The IDE responds very slowly when I simply move the carret in a file or try to open the menu. The process seems to take 50% of CPU for each movement. It only happens with this solution and only on my machine. The solution has total of 2380 source and header files, of which 1280 are header files. I tried to remove all connection to the source control (Perforce) but it didn't help. Also, I have Visual Assist installed but even after removing it (uninstall), the same behavior continued. Any idea?

  • Erlang: simple refactoring

    - by alexey
    Consider the code: f(command1, UserId) -> case is_registered(UserId) of true -> %% do command1 ok; false -> not_registered end; f(command2, UserId) -> case is_registered(UserId) of true -> %% do command2 ok; false -> not_registered end. is_registered(UserId) -> %% some checks Now imagine that there are a lot of commands and they are all call is_registered at first. Is there any way to generalize this behavior (refactor this code)? I mean that it's not a good idea to place the same case in all the commands.

  • Getting data from the next row in Oracle cursor

    - by Chaotic_one
    Hi, I'm building nested tree and I need to get data for the next row in cursor, using Oracle. And I still need current row, so looping forward is not a solution. Example: OPEN emp_cv FOR sql_stmt; LOOP FETCH emp_cv INTO v_rcod,v_rname,v_level; EXIT WHEN emp_cv%NOTFOUND; /*here lies the code for getting v_next_level*/ if v_next_level > v_level then /*code here*/ elsif v_next_level < v_level then /*code here*/ else /*code here*/ end if; END LOOP; CLOSE emp_cv;

  • Why does Visual Studio 2008 try to open a project from the wrong folder?

    - by Rising Star
    I'm having a bizarre problem with Visual Studio 2008. I wanted to debug one of the libraries that my web application references. Therefore, I decide to add the project containing the library to my solution so that I can debug them together. The project containing my library sits at c:\webLibs\myproj.vbproj. However, when I try to add the project to my solution, Visual Studio throws the following error: "The project file 'c:\someOtherFolder\myproj.vbproj'. has been moved, renamed, or is not on your computer." As you can see, VS appears to be trying to open a different file than the one I clicked on. I used to have the file in that other location, but not anymore. I've tried restarting VS several times. What could cause this bizarre behavior? Why would Visual Studio try to open my project from the wrong folder?

  • When debugging in VS 2008 why does the debugger land on a second return statement?

    - by Hellfire
    When debugging the following console program: class Program { static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine(DoIt(false)); Console.WriteLine(DoIt(true)); } private static Boolean DoIt(Boolean abort) { try { throw new InvalidOperationException(); } catch(Exception ex) { if (abort) { return true; } Console.WriteLine("Got here"); return false; } } } Why does the IDE land on the second return statement during the second call to DoIt()? The results of the execution is correct but the debugging experience is misleading. Is this a known issue? Is the behavior in VS 2010 the same?

  • What does -setPropagatesDeletesAtEndOfEvent: actually do?

    - by dontWatchMyProfile
    Let me try it: If I don't set this, then the default value is YES. So when I delete an managed object from the context, the context propagates this immediately to the persistent store so the object is gone? And when I set this to NO, then objects are deleted from the persistent store only when calling -save? Is that really true? I mean: If it was true, then the default behavior is that once you call the context to delete an object, the object is gone. Lets assume you're not using an undo manager. So... gone. Right? No rollback possible? Or can it still be recovered with a rollback?

  • TSQL Prefixing String Literal on Insert - Any Value to This, or Redundant?

    - by SethO
    I just inherited a project that has code similar to the following (rather simple) example: DECLARE @Demo TABLE ( Quantity INT, Symbol NVARCHAR(10) ) INSERT INTO @Demo (Quantity, Symbol) SELECT 127, N'IBM' My interest is with the N before the string literal. I understand that the prefix N is to specify encoding (in this case, Unicode). But since the select is just for inserting into a field that is clearly already Unicode, wouldn't this value be automatically upcast? I've run the code without the N and it appears to work, but am I missing something that the previous programmer intended? Or was the N an oversight on his/her part? I expect behavior similar to when I pass an int to a decimal field (auto-upcast). Can I get rid of those Ns?

  • Perl parsing ps fwaux output

    - by Magic Hat
    I am trying to figure out children processes of a given parent from ps fwaux (there may very well be a better way to do this). Basically, I have daemons running that may or may not have a child process running at any given time. In another script I want to check if there are any child processes, and if so do something. If not, error out. ps fwaux|grep will show me the tree, but I'm not exactly sure what to do with it. Any suggestions would be great.

  • dropdown list event is not firing when javascript is used

    - by user1511953
    i have a problem in firing dropdownlist event i have following dropdown asp:dropdownlist id="ddlhello" Runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" onchange="javascript:return ChangeHeader();" i have also added event in code behind i.e. selectedindex change event. Now problem occurs when i execute the page, it executes javascript but server side code doesnot fire, but if i remove this line onchange="javascript:return ChangeHeader();" then server side code fires. when i checked source page it shows me two onchange events associated one for javascript and other for server side. i think that it is picking client side code and neglects server side. I am not pretty sure, so i want to know the behavior reason. And what is the way out for this. i want server and client side code to be executed. i have searched for solutions but i have not found any correct reason. please reply for the same. Thanks in advance

  • How do I build (get/download) time.h library?

    - by coffeenet
    I am trying to build a project on Linux via Makefile. I keep getting cannot find <sys/time.h> error. I asked around, and I was told that my project doesn't have access to library folders. Therefore, I am trying to solve this problem by using the time library locally inside my project's folder. I am very new to Linux. So, please forgive my question if it sounds naive. I found this, but I don't know what files I need, and how to build the library. http://sourceware.org/git/?p=glibc.git;a=tree;f=time;h=c950c5d4dd90541e8f3c7e1649fcde4aead989bb;hb=master Where can I find the time.h library/package? How do I build the library?

  • xsl:variable xsl:copy-of select

    - by user1901345
    I have the following XML: Picture 1 Picture 2 Picture 3 While this XSL does what is expected (output the attr of the first picture): It seems to be not possible to do the same inside the variable declaration using xsl:copy-of: Curious: If I just select "$FirstPicture" instead of "$FirstPicture/@attr" in the second example, it outputs the text node of Picture 1 as expected... Before you all suggest me to rewrite the code: This is just a simplified test, my real aim is to use a named template to select a node into the variable FirstPicture and reuse it for further selections. I hope someone could help me to understand the behavior or could suggest me a proper way to select a node with code which could be easily reused (the decission which node is the first one is complex in my real application). Thanks.

  • What is the right way to implement communication between java objects?

    - by imoschak
    I'm working on an academic project which simulates a rather large queuing procedure in java. The core of the simulator rests within one package where there exist 8 classes, each one implementing a single concept. Every class in the project follows SRP. These classes encapsulate the behavior of the simulator and inter-connect every other class in the project. The problem that has arisen is that most of these 8 classes are, as is logical i think, tightly coupled and each one has to have working knowledge of every other class in this package in order to be able to call methods from it when needed. The application needs only one instance of each class so it might be better to create static fields for each class in a new class and use that to make calls -instead of preserving a reference in each class for every other class in the package (which I'm certain that is incorrect)-, but is this considered a correct design solution? or is there a design pattern maybe that better suits my needs?

  • Eclipse plugin to measure programmer performance/stats

    - by trenki
    Does anyone know of an Eclipse plugin that can give me some stats about my behavior/usage of the Eclipse IDE? There are quite a few things I would like to know: How often/when do I invoke the "Build All" command (through Ctrl+B) How often does compilation fail/succeed (+ number of errors/warnings) How often do I hit Backspace? (I do that way to often; If pressing that key would give a nasty sound I would in time learn to type correctly in the first place) How many characters/lines of code that I typed do I delete (possibly quite immediately) How (effective/efficient/...) is my Mouse/Keyboard/IDE usage? (Kinda like measuring APM in StarCraft; this could be fun) If there is no such Eclipse plugin around, how complex and time consuming would It be to write a plugin that can accomplish the above?

  • Zend Framework: How to handle exceptions in Ajax requests?

    - by understack
    Normally when an exception is thrown, Error controller takes command and displays error page with regular common header and footer. This behavior is not wanted in Ajax request. Because in case of error, whole html page is sent over. And in cases where I'm directly loading the content of http response in a div, this is even more unwanted. Instead in case of Ajax request, I just want to receive 'the actual error' thrown by exception. How can I do this? I think, one dirty way could be: set a var in ajax request and process accordingly. Not a good solution.

  • Next Identity Key LINQ + SQL Server

    - by user569347
    To represent our course tree structure in our Linq Dataclasses we have 2 columns that could potentially be the same as the PK. My problem is that if I want to Insert a new record and populate 2 other columns with the PK that was generated there is no way I can get the next identity and stop conflict with other administrators who might be doing the same insert at the same time. Case: A Leaf node has right_id and left_id = itself (prereq_id) **dbo.pre_req:** prereq_id left_id right_id op_id course_id is_head is_coreq is_enforced parent_course_id and I basically want to do this: pre_req rec = new pre_req { left_id = prereq_id, right_id = prereq_id, op_id = 3, course_id = query.course_id, is_head = true, is_coreq = false, parent_course_id = curCourse.course_id }; db.courses.InsertOnSubmit(rec); try { db.SubmitChanges(); } Any way to solve my dilemma? Thanks!

  • Min-Ordered Bionomial Heap Insertion java

    - by Charodd Richardson
    Im writing a java code to make a min-ordered Binomial Heap and I have to Insert and Remove-min. I'm having a very big problem inserting into the Heap. I have been stuck on this for a couple of days now and it is due tomorrow. Whenever I go to insert, It only prints out the item I insert instead of the whole tree (which is in preorder). Such as if I insert 1 it prints (1) and then I go to insert 2 it prints out (2) instead of (1(2)) It keeps printing out only the number I insert last instead of the whole preordered tree. I would be very grateful if someone could help me with this problem. Thank you so much in advance, Here is my code. public class BHeap { int key; int degree;//The degree(Number of children) BHeap parent, leftmostChild, rightmostChild, rightSibling,root,previous,next; public BHeap(){ key =0; degree=0; parent =null; leftmostChild=null; rightmostChild=null; rightSibling=null; root=null; previous=null; next=null; } public BHeap merge(BHeap x, BHeap y){ BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); y.rightSibling=x.root; BHeap currentHeap = y; BHeap nextHeap = y.rightSibling; while(currentHeap.rightSibling !=null){ if(currentHeap.degree==nextHeap.degree){ if(currentHeap.key<nextHeap.key){ if(currentHeap.degree ==0){ currentHeap.leftmostChild=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightmostChild=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightSibling=nextHeap.rightSibling; nextHeap.rightSibling=null; nextHeap.parent=currentHeap; currentHeap.degree++; } else{ newHeap = currentHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild.rightSibling=nextHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild=nextHeap; nextHeap.parent=newHeap; newHeap.degree++; nextHeap.rightSibling=null; nextHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; } } else{ if(currentHeap.degree==0){ nextHeap.rightmostChild=currentHeap; nextHeap.rightmostChild.root = nextHeap.rightmostChild;//add nextHeap.leftmostChild=currentHeap; nextHeap.leftmostChild.root = nextHeap.leftmostChild;//add currentHeap.parent=nextHeap; currentHeap.rightSibling=null; currentHeap.root=currentHeap;//add nextHeap.degree++; } else{ newHeap=nextHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild.rightSibling=currentHeap; newHeap.rightmostChild=currentHeap; currentHeap.parent= newHeap; newHeap.degree++; currentHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; currentHeap.rightSibling=null; } } } else{ currentHeap=currentHeap.rightSibling; nextHeap=nextHeap.rightSibling; } } return y; } public void Insert(int x){ /*BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); newHeap.key=x; if(this.root==null){ this.root=newHeap; return; } else{ this.root=merge(newHeap,this.root); }*/ BHeap newHeap= new BHeap(); newHeap.key=x; if(this.root==null){ this.root=newHeap; } else{ this.root = merge(this,newHeap); }} public void RemoveMin(){ BHeap newHeap = new BHeap(); BHeap child = new BHeap(); newHeap=this; BHeap pos = newHeap.next; while(pos !=null){ if(pos.key<newHeap.key){ newHeap=pos; } pos=pos.rightSibling; } pos=this; BHeap B1 = new BHeap(); if(newHeap.previous!=null){ newHeap.previous.rightSibling=newHeap.rightSibling; B1 =pos.leftmostChild; B1.rightSibling=pos; pos.leftmostChild=pos.rightmostChild.leftmostChild; } else{ newHeap=newHeap.rightSibling; newHeap.previous.rightSibling=newHeap.rightSibling; B1 =pos.leftmostChild; B1.rightSibling=pos; pos.leftmostChild=pos.rightmostChild.leftmostChild; } merge(newHeap,B1); } public void Display(){ System.out.print("("); System.out.print(this.root.key); if(this.leftmostChild != null){ this.leftmostChild.Display(); } System.out.print(")"); if(this.rightSibling!=null){ this.rightSibling.Display(); } } }

  • Cast A primitive type pointer to A structure pointer - Alignment and Padding?

    - by Seçkin Savasçi
    Just 20 minutes age when I answered a question, I come up with an interesting scenario that I'm not sure of the behavior: Let me have an integer array of size n, pointed by intPtr; int* intPtr; and let me also have a struct like this: typedef struct { int val1; int val2; //and less or more integer declarations goes on like this(not any other type) }intStruct; My question is if I do a cast intStruct* structPtr = (intStruct*) intPtr; Am I sure to get every element correctly if I traverse the elements of the struct? Is there any possibility of miss-alignment(possible because of padding) in any architecture/compiler?

  • Doubling a number - shift left vs. multiplication

    - by ToxicAvenger
    What are the differences between int size = (int)((length * 200L) / 100L); // (1) and int size = length << 1; // (2) (length is int in both cases) I assume both code snippets want to double the length parameter. I'd be tempted to use (2) ... so are there any advantages for using (1)? I looked at the edge cases when overflow occurs, and both versions seem to have the same behavior. Please tell me what am I missing.

  • Why does set key not do anything in AES/SymmetricAlgorithm?

    - by acidzombie24
    This MESSED ME UP hard. I thought i was setting the key but i was not. No exceptions, nothing happen except bad results. Why is there a setter if everything is ignored and no exceptions are thrown when i attempt to write? What is the point of the setter on the Keys property? When i do the below Key value are not changed. After an hour when i realize what was happening i wrote the loop to verify. I also tried aes.Key[0] = val; var b = val == aes.Key[0]; (and messed with it in immediate mode). Why does it have this behavior? Array.Copy(myKey, aes.Key, aes.Key.Length); int i = 0; foreach (var v in aes.Key) { var b = myKey[i++] == v; if (!b) b = b; }

  • Problem with Firefox, javascript, and Canvas

    - by Rob
    I'm having a Firefox-specific issue with a script I wrote to create 3d layouts. The correct behavior is that the script pulls the background-color from an element and then uses that color to draw on the canvas. When a user mouses over a link and the background-color changes to the :hover rule, the color being drawn changes on the canvas changes as well. When the user mouses out, the color should revert back to non-hover color. This works as expected in Webkit browsers and Opera, but Firefox chokes on it if mouseout is triggered and no mouseover event follows it. This is easier to see than for me to describe, and it's too much code to post here, so here is a link: http://www.robnixondesigns.com/strangematter/
