  A remote machine running fedora uses openvpn, and multiple developers were successfully able to connect to it via their client openvpn. However, I am running Ubuntu 12.04 and I am having trouble connecting to the server via vpn. I copied ca.crt, home.key, and home.crt from the server to my local machine to /etc/openvpn folder. As we all know, a base chat application need 4 base controls: one List control to show the chat room members, one List control to show the message list, one TextBox control to input messages and one button to send message. User inputs his message in the textbox first and then presses Send button, it will send the message to the server. The message list will update every 2 seconds to get the newest message list in the chat room from the server. We need to know, it is hard for us to make an AJAX web chat application like a windows form application because we cannot keep the connection after one web request ended. So a lot of events which communicates between client side and server side cannot be realized. The common workaround is to make web requests in every some seconds to check whether the server side has been updated. But another technique called COMET makes it possible. But it is different with AJAX and will not be talked in details in this KB. For more details about COMET, we can get some clues from the Reference.   CSASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList and VBASPNETCurrentOnlineUserList This sample demos a system that needs to display a list of current online users' information. As a matter of fact, Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline Method  can get the number of online users and there is a convenient approach to check whether the user is online by using Membership.GetUser(string userName).IsOnline property,however many asp.net projects are not using membership.So in this case,the sample shows how to display a list of current online users' information without using membership provider. It is not difficult to check whether the user is online by using session.Many projects tend to be used “Session_End” event to mark a user as “Offline”,however ,it may not be a good idea,because it can’t detect the user status accurately. In addition, "Session_End" event is only available in the "InProc" session mode. If you are storing session states in the State Server or SQL Server, "Session_End" event will never fire.   Hello I need a research topic for my networking paper. This is my first networking course I am taking so I have not gone into the actual protocols such as TCP/ip, HTTP, etc.(I have just begun chapter 4 for of network+). What would you suggest for a relatively easy to understand topic to research for my paper(that is also easy write about)?... I am kinda interested in research video game multi-player networking but I don't know if that's out of my league. -Topic can be on anything related to networking(p2p, internet, server architecture etc) -Paper has to be entirely researched on the internet -2-3 pages in length

• Event system architecture for networking when performance is concerned

  How should I design a system for an action game (think in Golden Axe) where events can happen remotely? I'm using TCP for this because the client is in flash. There's so many options, I can make a binary protocol (I don't like this idea, I found it to be too hard to mantain) but I was also thinking that passing jsons through clients and server can be slow (Is that a exaggerated concern?). What about the internal architecture for the server? And for the client? I'm really lost, If it's a question that is too big, please indicate me some material so I can formulate a better question next time.

  Symbolic execution has been successfully used to test programs and automatically generate test cases. I've been working on my master's thesis that allows the testing of arbitrary networked programs (i.e., those communicating via sockets). Now that we have a working symbolic execution engine that has support for sockets, we're looking for real-world pieces of software to test. Our engine has an important restriction (at the moment): it cannot execute multi-threaded programs.   Recently, I had to create a program to send messages between two winforms executable. I used a tool with simple built-in functionalities to prevent having to figure out all the ins and outs of this vast quantity of protocols that exist. But now, I'm ready to learn more about the internals difference between each of theses protocols. I googled a couple of them but it would be greatly appreciate to have a good reference book that gives me a clean idea of how each protocol works and what are the pros and cons in a couple of context. Here is a list of nice protocols that I found: Shared memory TCP List item Named Pipe File Mapping Mailslots MSMQ (Microsoft Queue Solution) WCF I know that all of these protocols are not specific to a language, it would be nice if example could be in .net. • JSON, Ajax login and signup form problem, critique

  Here is my problem; indexdeneme2.php has two forms Sign up and Login form, and there is validation.js and login.js which are handling the AJAX and JSON response, there are validate.php and login.php which are my scripts for validating and login. When you sign up, it sends the data to validate.php perfectly and validate.php response with JSON perfectly, validate.js must show the error in #error div. validation.js works perfectly if it is working alone. I use same kind of script for login form. Login.php also works perfectly it responses with JSON and login.js shows the errors are appear in #errorlogin div. But this works when login.js works alone. When I try to work login.js and validate.js together, it is not working. validate.php and login.php works perfectly but login.js and validation.js are not working together. They can't handle the responses coming from php scripts. It is not showing the errors in #errorlogin and #error div. They intercept each other I guess. By the way if you can critique my login.php and validate.php I will be really appreciated. • How to unhide an application?

  I hope you can help me. I have installed ubuntu 12.04 using wubi, my issue is i installed iptux using ubuntu software center, it worked fine, i decided that i wanted it to be hidden at start up, so i changed its setting in preferences. i assumed that if i needed to use it i could go to internet menu and select it. But after restarting i found that after i click on iptux under Internet nothing happens, but i click it after that then a small window shows Fatal Error!! Failed to bind the TCP/UDP port(2425)! Address already in use. I have tried uninstalling using ubuntu software center and reinstalling it but it still had the same problem. I thought it maybe because some files were not uninstalled by USC, so i installed synaptic and uninstalled iptux (complete uninstallation) and then reinstalled it and the same situation occurs. I was hoping someone could inform me how i could unhide iptux. Thank You

How can a NodeJS server be used from GM HTML5. Are there any examples of such a system? I already got an iOS game that can talk to a remote AI server (coded in Lua) using TCP sockets. This is probably a stupid question but I'm using this tutorial as a starting guide and I'm stuck with where I have to set a socket with this command fastcgi-mono-server4 /applications=/:/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/ /socket=tcp:127.0.0.1:9000 What path am I supposed to replace '/var/www/www.domain1.xyz/' with? If I run the command as is I get an error saying Error creating the socket: Address already in use root@ubuntu:~# kill 9000; Please help.

  I have installed apache2, mysql, and php and now it doesnt let Vidalia run on localhost. i tried to change the TCP connection (controlport) to any other ip 192.168.0.40 and tried to change the default port 9051 to any other but that doesnt work. I thought apache is running so i used this command sudo service apache2 stop but that still doesnt work. So now when i type 127.0.0.1:9051 in browser it says and if i type only type 127.0.0.1 after stopping the apapche2 service with the command mentioned above it says unable to connect I am not sure what to do now Help!

• Is it worth it to switch from home-grown remote command interface to using JMX

  Without knowing too much about JMX, I've always assumed that it would be the best approach for building in remote management to our standalone Java server application. Our server application has some minimal remote control capability, using text commands sent via TCP/IP socket to it. Using the home grown approach, it is fairly to add a new command. (Just create new command text, and the code to handle that in the message receiver). On the other hand, we have hardly implemented any commands, even though there are many things we would like to be able to execute remotely. I am trying to weigh the value of moving to incorporating JMX (learning it, and building the interfaces), versus just sticking with the home-grown approach. Does anyone have any experience or advice regarding changing an existing application to use JMX?

• Actor library / framework for C++

  In the C++ project I am working for we would like to use something like Scala actors and remote actors (see e.g. this tutorial). Being able to use remote actors (actors living in different processes, possibly on different machines and communicating via TCP/IP) has higher priority for us because we have an application consisting of several processes deployed on different machines. Being able to use several actors living in the same process (possibly different threads) is also interesting, but has lower priority for the moment. On wikipedia I have found some links to actor libraries for C++ and I have started to look at Theron. Before I dive too deep into the details and build an extended example with Theron, I wanted to ask if anybody has experience with any of these libraries and which one they would recommend.

• Foraward Traffic from local machine to proxy server using iptables

  I am using Ubuntu Server 12.04. My IP is 192.168.4.160. I want to route the HTTP traffic generated locally from my system destined to a particular URL (say x.x.x.x) to pass through proxy server. My proxy server is 192.168.0.13:3128. I added following rule in iptables sudo iptables -t nat -A OUTPUT -p tcp -d x.x.x.x --dport 80 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.13:3128 However, this rule does not seem to work for me. I captured packet in wireshark and I saw that packet is still going to x.x.x.x I am not very much familiar with iptables, so please try to be specific. Thanks in advance

• How can I force the (re)discovery of PulseAudio network sound devices?

  I'm using the PulseAudio feature of network sound devices (not Multicast/RTP) to play sound from my netbook on the audio equipment connected to the HTPC when at home. This creates a virtual sound device that I can then use instead of the physical built-in one. Most of the time this works just fine. Sometimes however, the virtual sound device just doesn't appear. Disconnecting from and reconnecting to the network helps sometimes but not always and it's annoying and potentially bad for existing TCP connections. So my question basically is: Is there some way to tell PulseAudio "Hey, just look again if you really can't find a network sound device."? Edit: Unloading and reloading the module-zeroconf-discover with pacmd does not help either and it doesn't appear to be an avahi problem per se since avahi-browse -t --all | grep PulseAudio shows lots of right-looking stuff, even when the devices aren't listed in pavucontrol or pacmd list-sinks. Edit 2: I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 on both boxes for all the difference it might make.

We are ISV and we have a lot of applications (services) with very different protocols such as http (Rest), low level tcp, amqp, diameter, telco protocols Rx, Ry, Ud and many others. We want to simplify configuration, deployment and service discovery procees and it seems that It's time to create central configuration registry. So I have few questions: - is zookeeper suitable for this purpose? - does exists more suitable and more special solution? - best practice for service naming for discoverin. Any standards? - recommendation for service configuration data structure Also we are keeping in mind future tasks For dynamic application distribution in a private cloud. Could you share your real life experience?
