• WinRT 8.1 Phone - ListView reordering

  I need to create a reorderable ListView in a Windows Phone 8.1 app created using WinRT. The XAML is the following (it binds to an ObservableDictionary in the codebehind): <Grid Margin="24"> <ListView x:Name="MainListView" CanDragItems="True" CanReorderItems="True" AllowDrop="True" VerticalAlignment="Stretch" HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" > <ListView.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Border Padding="24" Margin="16" Background="CadetBlue"> <TextBlock Text="{Binding}" /> </Border> </DataTemplate> </ListView.ItemTemplate> </ListView> </Grid> The ListView does nothing when I try to reorder the items (it looks like the "reordering mode" is not activated). When I run this sample in Windows 8.1 (the XAML is shared) it works as expected. According to the documentation Windows Phone 8.1 should be supported. Is this functionality supported on the phone (and the documentation wrong) or do I need to do something special for the phone?

  Hello, We have an application structured roughly like this: <Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot"> <ScrollViewer> <Canvas x:Name="canvas"> <StackPanel> < Button /><Slider /><Button /></StackPanel> <custom:Blob /> <custom:Blob /> <custom:Blob /> </Canvas> </ScrollViewer> </Grid> Each Blob consists of 1 or more rectangles, lines, and text boxes; they are positioned anywhere on the canvas. If I print the document using the LayoutRoot: PrintDocument pd = new PrintDocument(); pd += (s, pe) => { pe.PageVisual = LayoutRoot; }; pd.Print("Blobs"); ... it is like a print-screen -- the scrollbars, the sliders, the blobs that are visible -- are printed. If I set PageVisual = canvas, nothing is printed. How can I get all the blob objects, and just those objects, to print? Do I need to copy them into another container, and give that container to PageVisual? Can I use a ViewBox to make sure they all fit on one page? Thanks for any pointers....

  I have a program that will read the number of rows and columns from a txt file. Also, the program has to read the contents of a 2D array from the same file. Here is the txt file 8 20 * * *** *** 8 and 20 are the number of rows and columns respectively. • Windows Phone 7 applications - Orientation Change

  Hello there fellow developers! I am working on a Windows Phone 7 app and I can't figure out what I believe is a simple problem for the more seasoned ones. Say I have a layout consisting of two elements: a ListBox (filled with an abundance of items) and a TextBlock (providing the user with some basic instructions). I want these to be one above the other when the device is in Portrait orientation and I want these to be next to each other when the device orientation changes to Landscape. For the Portrait orientation I am using a Grid layout manager, as it lets me define the rows' heights like so... row 0 Height="2*", row 1 Height="*" Listbox sits in row 0, TextBlock in row 1. Now, what would be really neat is to simple change the RowDefinitions into ColumnDefinitions and reassign the listbox/textblock to the grid's columns instead of rows for when the device switches into Landscape. But that's just my idea. I don't know how to get this done elegantly. Maybe there's a better approach to this? Or maybe this is the correct approach and there is some method built for exactly this purpose? Thank you for your suggestions!

• Is there a quality, file-size, or other benefit to JPEG sizes being multiples of 8px or 16px?

  The JPEG compression encoding process splits a given image into blocks of 8x8 pixels, working with these blocks in future lossy and lossless compressions. [source] It is also mentioned that if the image is a multiple 1MCU block (defined as a Minimum Coded Unit, 'usually 16 pixels in both directions') that lossless alterations to a JPEG can be performed. [source] I am working with product images and would like to know both if, and how much benefit can be derived from using multiples of 16 in my final image size (say, using an image with size 480px by 360px) vs. a non-multiple of 16 (such as 484x362). In this example I am not interested in further alterations, editing, or recompression of the final image. To try to get closer to a specific answer where I know there must be largely generalities: Given a 480x360 image that is 64k and saved at maximum quality in Photoshop [example]: Can I expect any quality loss from an image that is 484x362 What amount of file size addition can I expect (for this example, the additional space would be white pixels) Are there any other disadvantages to growing larger than the 8px grid? I know it's arbitrary to use that specific example, but it would still be helpful (for me and potentially any others pondering an image size) to understand what level of compromise I'd be dealing with in breaking the non-8px grid. The key issue here is a debate I've had is whether 8-pixel divisible images are higher quality than images that are not divisible by 8-pixels.

  I have created a web app version of my previous crawler app and the initial form has controls to allow the client to make selections and start a search 'job'. These searches 'jobs' will be run my different threads created individually and added to a list to keep track of. Now the idea is to have another web form that will display this list of 'jobs' and their current status and will allow the jobs to be cancelled or removed only from the server side. This second form contains a grid to display these jobs. Now I have no idea if I should create the threads in the initial form code or send all user input to my main class which runs the search and if so how do I pass the the thread list to the second form to have it displayed on the grid. Any ideas really appreciated. • Single Loader to multiple Sprite Possible?

  I've looked in various resources regarding this topic, and it seems to me that I need a Loader for every Sprite which contains an image file (png). I'm trying to make a Tile Rendering System, and have created a grid of X by Y sprites, but all of them actually reference the same image file. Is there any other way to do this? • Why does a checkbox remain checked in FF3 but not in IE, Chrome or ...

  So - I have a checkbox <asp:CheckBox ID="chkOrder" runat="server" Visible='<%#IsCheckBoxVisible() %>' Checked="false" OnCheckedChanged="chkOrder_CheckedChanged" AutoPostBack="true" EnableViewState="false"></asp:CheckBox> the one above. Now, the checkbox is in a gridview and on databound - for all the rows in the gridview the checkbox is set to false. The problem is that the first checkbox is still true checked. In IE the problem doesn't exist, same for Chrome. I'm running out of options. Also if i use $("checkboxName").attr("checked"); // verified on jquery ready function. In FF it is true; IE false; Chrome false. Any tips? EDIT Now get ready for this : in the generated html - there is NO checked attribute. The diff between FF and IE is exactly the same. Another thing - the grid that contains the checkboxes has an ajax panel on it and when I page the grid, try to go to page 2 - the checkedChanged in codebehind is triggered.

• Is there a maximum number of input controls that can be used on an HTML form?

  I have an ambitious requirement for an asp.net 2.0 web page that contains a table (gridview), and each row in the grid contains 6 select (dropdown) controls for data entry. The number of rows that will be displayed is dependent upon the user's search parameters, which are specified in another area of the page. Unfortunately, with the default (and even basic) search parameters specified, the grid could contain several hundred rows. I've noticed that the browser, in this case IE8, starts behaving rather erratically once I reach a large number of rows -- no documented evidence for the number of rows where this begins to be a problem. For example, trying to view the source of the page results in a message from IE stating that there was a problem with the page that forced the browser to reload it, and I never get the source. Obviously the page loads and renders rather slowly also. I know that my solution is probably going to involve paging the gridview such that it only displays 20 or so rows per page, and I'll have to write code to handle the saving of changes in the dropdown values when the user changes pages. I can probably turn off viewstate on the gridview also. However, the question I really want to pose is this -- has anyone seen a documented rule indicating the maximum number of input controls that an HTML browser form is supposed to be able to contain? I could not find anything on the Internet after doing a search, and I suspect the answer may be whatever the browser can handle based on the machine configuration it is running on. Any rules of thumb you use? Thanks for any suggestions. Rich

Do, am I inflating it wrongly ? Or is maybe the new TableRow.LayoutParams() part doins omething wrong ?

I got the following solution to be working in IE8, but its not all perfect: I set to use two css classes, one for header and other one for the rows like below: .jqgridbodyLock{ position:relative; left: expression(parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.scrollLeft); z-index: 10; } .jqgridheaderLocked{ position:relative; left: expression(parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.parentNode.scrollLeft); /* IE5+ only */ z-index:30; } Then in colModel, I used the property classes {name:'column1', width:100, index:'column1', sorttype:"string", classes:'jqgridbodyLock'},//lock the body row and to lock the respective header I used code as below: $("#grid").setLabel("column1","column1","jqgridheaderLocked"); Though the solution works, I have the following problems: 1) The header values shake a lot when scrolling to the right though they remain frozen 2) The body values of the frozen column disappear when the cursor is taken out of the grid. 3) How to lock a normal table in firefox. • Generating all unique crossword puzzle grids

  I want to generate all unique crossword puzzle grids of a certain grid size (4x4 is a good size). All possible puzzles, including non-unique puzzles, are represented by a binary string with the length of the grid area (16 in the case of 4x4), so all possible 4x4 puzzles are represented by the binary forms of all numbers in the range 0 to 2^16. Generating these is easy, but I'm curious if anyone has a good solution for how to programmatically eliminate invalid and duplicate cases. For example, all puzzles with a single column or single row are functionally identical, hence eliminating 7 of those 8 cases. Also, according to crossword puzzle conventions, all squares must be contiguous. I've had success removing all duplicate structures, but my solution took several minutes to execute and probably was not ideal. I'm at something of a loss for how to detect contiguity so if anyone has ideas on this it'd be much appreciated. I'd prefer solutions in python but write in whichever language you prefer. If anyone wants, I can post my python code for generating all grids and removing duplicates, slow as it may be.

  thanks for reading. I'm creating a simple web based drawing app that uses speech recognition. I have created a simple page, the project is on github here: https://github.com/a5hton/speechdraw It has a 16x16 pixel grid. I would like to be able to draw on this grid by using simple words. For example if you say "right", the pixel to the right will be colored black. If you say "down" the pixel below the last one will be colored black. You can say up, down, left or right and the corresponding pixels will be colored. Saying "erase" will switch to erase mode, colouring the pixels back to their original color. Saying "lift" will lift the pen off the page. Saying "draw" will enable the draw mode. Could you please help me work out how to make this happen.   so I am trying to draw some grid lines that in landscape go all the way down to the bottom, however when I switch to landscape the the graph doesn't follow and the grid lines go smaller.
