In hosts file I have added following line
127.0.0.1 test
When I call Request.Url.Host in Asp.Net application still get "localhost". How do I get "test" ?
Consider we have .NET Winforms application or Console Application.
Can anyone tell me what will happen step-by-step until the WinForm or Console Application is launched. I would like know the internals - like how EXE will communicate with Framework, what is the role of CLR, what happens in case of exception while launching applicaiton itself.etc...
I am re-evaluating my 3rd party controls. I currently use the Infragistic suite for ASP.Net and WinForms. What controls do you use and would you recommend them?

I'd like the user to specify a RSS feed address and serialize the information from it. I am not interested in the XML format, but populate a strongly typed object from the XML. My question is, is there a standard that all RSS feeds support (Do all of them have date, title etc)? If so, is there a XSD that describes this. If not, how do I handle serializing a RSS feed to an object in ASP.NET?
Can somebody suggest a good book on ASP.NET projects?
It should give an idea of practical problems (I mean professional life) and how to deal with them, things like database handling, caching, n-tier architecture, etc.
I have a form and from this I call
dialogPrintDiet.ShowDialog()

I need to create a vb.net program that consists of a unmovable, always on top bitmap, with no menu bar or anything, and does not show up in the task bar as program.
It needs to always start in the same place.
Essentially I need to mask a part of the screen by using a bitmap that blends into the scenery.
I am not sure which properties I need to tweak to achieve all of this.
I want to create a asp.net application which can show directions in a layout from room A to room B. So layout would be a grid of rooms and if the user wants to get directions from room A to room B the application to highlight the path in blue.
I have no idea how to begin with this? What can i use to create a floor layout and then highlight the required path. Any pointers ? Thanks.
Is there any solution available for generating UML diagrams (or at least XMI files) in C#.NET?
Bear in mind that I don't want to reverse engineer my code but automate UML diagrams generation (different kind of them, mostly component diagrams).
Hi,
I have an assembly and want to restrict the assemblies and applications that can call/use this assemblies functionality. Can anyone provide detailed information on how this can be achieved ?
From what I have read on the internet this is not possible because any "fully trusted" assembly will automatically be granted access.
I am using .NET 2.0 and 3.5 and the solution needs to be compatible with both versions of the framework.
Thanks in advance ;-)

I'm looking or a way to programmatically determine which version of the .NET Framework an application pool is using in IIS, at runtime, and for a website application to then use that information to choose which *.config file it should use. Is it possible? I'm not sure where to begin.
Quite a broad question, and I'm open to any method of solving the problem, so fire away!
Thanks in advance, you lovely Stack Overflowers!
IEnumerable<Department> myQuery = (from D in myContext.Departments orderby D.DeptName select D);
var myQuery = (from D in myContext.Departments orderby D.DeptName select D);
What is the difference between these two statements above? In my little asp.net/C#/ EF4.0 app I can write them either way, and as far as how I want to use them, they both work, but there has to be a reason why I would choose one over the other?

I have a list of strings where by each string is a url to a pdf document. All I want to do is cycle through this list and display each url as a hyperlink on my page. I've seen this done before in MVC where the collection is made avaliable to the view and you can just do a foreach etc etc but I don't know how to do it on a normal asp.net page...
Any help appreciated, cheers!
I am looking for a good obfuscater that has visual studio integration, can be commercial or free, and has to work with vs 2010 and .net v4.
Something that is as hassle free as possible, and can obfuscate my release builds.
Thanks in advance
