• Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' + Postfix

  I just installed Postfix and configured it to use MySQL. It wasn't sending any emails out after I did that so I checked /var/log/mail.log and it came back with this: postfix/trivial-rewrite[5283]: fatal: proxy:mysql:/etc/postfix/mysql-domains.cf(0,lock|fold_fix): table lookup problem postfix/cleanup[5258]: warning: AFCDC30437: virtual_alias_maps map lookup problem for [email protected] postfix/master[4761]: warning: process /usr/lib/postfix/trivial-rewrite pid 5282 exit status 1 postfix/proxymap[4126]: warning: connect to mysql server 127.0.0.1: Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (110) In mysql-domains.cf I'm using: Hosts 127.0.0.1 I can connect to MySQL with this: mysql -u postfixuser -p But I can't connect this way: mysql -u postfixuser -h 127.0.0.1 -p maildbname Also when I run netstat -l it comes back with: tcp 0 0 localhost:mysql *:* LISTEN I've tried changing my hosts to: Hosts localhost But then I just get a socket error: postfix/cleanup[4870]: warning: connect to mysql server localhost: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' I also have this set up in the MySQL config file: bind-address = 127.0.0.1 I'm sure I'm missing something obvious, but I am pretty new to all this. • uwsgi_params not in nginx

And,I add the line to nginx conf file(/etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf) like below line; server { listen 80; server_name <replace with your hostname>; #Replace paths for real deployments... access_log /tmp/access.log; error_log /tmp/error.log; location / { include uwsgi_params; uwsgi_pass 127.0.0.1:8889; } } I had a error; Starting nginx: [emerg]: open() "/etc/nginx/uwsgi_params" failed (2: No such file or directory) in /etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf:11 configuration file /etc/nginx/nginx.conf test failed If I add uwsgi_params file from uwsgi's source;I had a simple error. • SQL Server crashes when remote query fails

  Setup: I have a linked server setup on SQL Server 2005 which is pointing to an Oracle DB. The linked server has RPC enabled. Problem: When a query throws an exception on the remote server (Oracle DB) the SQL Server instance crashes. The logs say that the crash was due to some problem with the RPC call. Is there a way in which I can prevent the entire server to collapse but also use RPC over my linked server. EDIT: Event Log SQL Server is terminating because of fatal exception c0000005. This error may be caused by an unhandled Win32 or C++ exception, or by an access violation encountered during exception handling. Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart). • csync2 ERROR: Connection to remote host failed

• Performing a silent install of JDeveloper

  Installing JDeveloper Now that you have downloaded the latest version of JDeveloper from: the Oracle technology network, you are almost ready to install it. The problem is that the GUI installer is not as accessible as it could be. However, there is an alternative called a silent install. To perform a silent install, follow these steps: Download the silent.xml file into the same folder as the JDeveloper installer. You can customize the silent.xml file by setting the folder where JDeveloper will be installed, and by setting the location where you have a 1.6 jdk installed with the accessbridge already configured. The defaults are: JDeveloper wil lbe installed at c:\jdev a jdk is installed at c:\jdk\1.6.0_25 (see instructions in the top of the silent.xml file). Open a command window and navigate to the folder where the JDeveloper installer and silent.xml files are located. Run the following command: jdevstudio11120install.exe -mode=silent -silent_xml=silent.xml -log=install.log Note: this assumes that you are installing JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0. Change the above command to match the installer package you have. This command will start by extracting the archive then the oracle installer will launch, but you just have to wait until the command prompt returns and voila it will be installed. To run JDeveloper: Now you can use windows explorer to navigate to the %JDEV_HOME% as specified in the silent.xml file (c:\jdev unless you changed it)and drill down to: jdeveloper\jdev\bin and now you have a couple of choices. If you have a 32-bit jdk configured with the accessbridge, then run jdevw.exe, however, if you have a 64-bit jdk copnfigured with the accessbridge, you should run jdev64w.exe. So I download fiddler to valid the affinity with my server and i see i got two value of key ArrAffinity in my cookie. • ISA forms authentication problems after installing moss sp2

  Guys I have a problem that's flared back up after installing WSS and MOSS service pack 2. The problem centers around the users being prompted to enter credentials when interacting with office documents. This problem came up before and I was able to go into ISA server and configure a persistent cookie on the web listener. As we all know when configuring a cookie you have two options use only on private computers or use on all computers. If I select use on all computers I can't even log in to Sharepoint from the forms page however if I select use only on private computer I'm able to log in and also I don't get prompted when opening office documents. So I would like to ask has something changed with Sharepoint service pack 2 because that’s the only change that’s been made to my environment.

• SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation and the Phantom of SQL Server 2005 Express

  Today I’ve happy started to install SQL Server 2008R2 on my development machine, which has this software installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU5 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 BOL October 2009 AdventuresWorks2008 Databases SR4 Visual Studio 2010 RTM So, all the basic standard stuff. SQL Server 2008 R2 installation went smooth ‘till somewhere in the middle, where the rule engine checks that software pre-requisite are satisfied before starting to copy files. Here I had this @][@@[?!?! error: “The SQL Server 2005 Express Tools are installed. To continue, remove the SQL Server 2005 Express Tools.” Fun enough, I don’t have and I’ve never had SQL Server 2005 Express on my machine. Armed with patience I analyzed the install log here C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\yyyymmdd_hhmmss\Detail.txt and I’ve found that the rule “Sql2005SsmsExpressFacet” is the one in charge of this check and it look for existance of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x86) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x64) In my registry I’ve found that key existsing, due to the installation of the uber-cool Red-Gate SQL Search. I removed the registry key and here it is! SQL Server 2008 R2 is installing while I’m writing this post. A note to Microsoft: can you please add more detailed information on the setup while such error happens. Just saying “you have SQL Server 2005 Express installed” is not enough. Please show us what the rule look for and why it has failed directly in the Detailed Report, so that we don’t have to spend time to look for the needle in the logs. • Troubleshooting Amazon EC2 reboot

  We've had a server (CentOS) running in EC2 for a few months. It had been going pretty smoothly until today when we got an alarm that the server was unavailable (HTTP service couldn't be reached). So I tried SSHing into the box but that timed out as well. I logged into the EC2 console and it said the instance was running and there wasn't anything in the system log. One odd thing I noticed is that even though we have an Elastic IP attached to it (which shows in the Elastic IP management area), the instance detail is not showing that there is an EIP associated with the instance. I looked through the message log and the last thing I see around the time we got our alert was the dhclient renewed the lease. I'm guessing there may have been some sort of issue with the networking. How might I check if that was the problem, or if there were any other issues that may have caused our instance to stop responding?

  The next major release of JRockit is finally out! Here are some highlights: Includes the all new JRockit Flight Recorder – supersedes the old JRockit Runtime Analyser. The new flight recorder is inspired by the “black box” in airplanes. It uses a highly efficient recording engine and thread local buffers to capture data about the runtime and the application running in the JVM. It can be configured to always be on, so that whenever anything “interesting” happens, data can be dumped for some time back. Think of it as your own personal profiling time machine. Automatic shortest path calculation in Memleak – no longer any need for running around in circles when trying to find your way back to a thread root from an instance. Memleak can now show class loader related information and split graphs on a per class loader basis. More easily configured JMX agent – default port for both RMI Registry and RMI Server can be configured, and is by default the same, allowing easier configuration of firewalls. Up to 64 GB (was 4GB) compressed references. Per thread allocation profiling in the Management Console. Native Memory Tracking – it is now possible to track native memory allocations with very high resolution. The information can either be accessed using JRCMD, or the dedicated Native Memory Tracking experimental plug-in for the Management Console (alas only available for the upcoming 4.0.1 release). JRockit can now produce heap dumps in HPROF format. Cooperative suspension – JRockit is no longer using system signals for stopping threads, which could lead to hangs if signals were lost or blocked (for example bad NFS shares). Now threads check periodically to see if they are suspended. VPAT/Section 508 compliant JRMC – greatly improved keyboard navigation and screen reader support. • Mocking the Unmockable: Using Microsoft Moles with Gallio

  Usual opensource mocking frameworks (like e.g. Moq or Rhino.Mocks) can mock only interfaces and virtual methods. In contrary to that, Microsoft’s Moles framework can ‘mock’ virtually anything, in that it uses runtime instrumentation to inject callbacks in the method MSIL bodies of the moled methods. Therefore, it is possible to detour any .NET method, including non-virtual/static methods in sealed types. This can be extremely helpful when dealing e.g. with code that calls into the .NET framework, some third-party or legacy stuff etc… Some useful collected resources (links to website, documentation material and some videos) can be found in my toolbox on Delicious under this link: http://delicious.com/thomasweller/toolbox+moles A Gallio extension for Moles Originally, Moles is a part of Microsoft’s Pex framework and thus integrates best with Visual Studio Unit Tests (MSTest). However, the Moles sample download contains some additional assemblies to also support other unit test frameworks. They provide a Moled attribute to ease the usage of mole types with the respective framework (there are extensions for NUnit, xUnit.net and MbUnit v2 included with the samples). As there is no such extension for the Gallio platform, I did the few required lines myself – the resulting Gallio.Moles.dll is included with the sample download. With this little assembly in place, it is possible to use Moles with Gallio like that: [Test, Moled] public void SomeTest() {     ... What you can do with it Moles can be very helpful, if you need to ‘mock’ something other than a virtual or interface-implementing method. This might be the case when dealing with some third-party component, legacy code, or if you want to ‘mock’ the .NET framework itself. Generally, you need to announce each moled type that you want to use in a test with the MoledType attribute on assembly level. For example: [assembly: MoledType(typeof(System.IO.File))] Below are some typical use cases for Moles. For a more detailed overview (incl. naming conventions and an instruction on how to create the required moles assemblies), please refer to the reference material above.  Detouring the .NET framework Imagine that you want to test a method similar to the one below, which internally calls some framework method:   public void ReadFileContent(string fileName) {     this.FileContent = System.IO.File.ReadAllText(fileName); } Using a mole, you would replace the call to the File.ReadAllText(string) method with a runtime delegate like so: [Test, Moled] [Description("This 'mocks' the System.IO.File class with a custom delegate.")] public void ReadFileContentWithMoles() {     // arrange ('mock' the FileSystem with a delegate)     System.IO.Moles.MFile.ReadAllTextString = (fname => fname == FileName ? The syntax for this is not all  too intuitive, because you have to setup the internal state of the mole, but generally it works like a charm. For example, to replace this c’tor… public class ClassWithCtor {     public int Value { get; private set; }       public ClassWithCtor(int someValue)     {         this.Value = someValue;     } } … you would do the following: [Test, Moled] public void ConstructorTestWithMoles() {     MClassWithCtor.ConstructorInt32 =            ((@class, @value) => new MClassWithCtor(@class) {ValueGet = () => 99});       var classWithCtor = new ClassWithCtor(3);       Assert.AreEqual(99, classWithCtor.Value); } Detouring abstract base classes You can also use this approach to ‘mock’ abstract base classes of a class that you call in your test. Assumed that you have something like that: public abstract class AbstractBaseClass {     public virtual string SaySomething()     {         return "Hello from base.";     } }      public class ChildClass : AbstractBaseClass {     public override string SaySomething()     {         return string.Format(             "Hello from child. Base says: '{0}'",             base.SaySomething());     } } Then you would set up the child’s underlying base class like this: [Test, Moled] public void AbstractBaseClassTestWithMoles() {     ChildClass child = new ChildClass();     new MAbstractBaseClass(child)         {                 SaySomething = () => "Leave me alone!"         }         .InstanceBehavior = MoleBehaviors.Fallthrough;       var hello = child.SaySomething();       Assert.AreEqual("Hello from child. Base says: 'Leave me alone!'", hello); } Setting the moles behavior to a value of  MoleBehaviors.Fallthrough causes the ‘original’ method to be called if a respective delegate is not provided explicitly – here it causes the ChildClass’ override of the SaySomething() method to be called. There are some more possible scenarios, where the Moles framework could be of much help (e.g. it’s also possible to detour interface implementations like IEnumerable<T> and such…). One other possibility that comes to my mind (because I’m currently dealing with that), is to replace calls from repository classes to the ADO.NET Entity Framework O/R mapper with delegates to isolate the repository classes from the underlying database, which otherwise would not be possible… Usage Since Moles relies on runtime instrumentation, mole types must be run under the Pex profiler. This only works from inside Visual Studio if you write your tests with MSTest (Visual Studio Unit Test). While other unit test frameworks generally can be used with Moles, they require the respective tests to be run via command line, executed through the moles.runner.exe tool. A typical test execution would be similar to this: moles.runner.exe <mytests.dll> /runner:<myframework.console.exe> /args:/<myargs> So, the moled test can be run through tools like NCover or a scripting tool like MSBuild (which makes them easy to run in a Continuous Integration environment), but they are somewhat unhandy to run in the usual TDD workflow (which I described in some detail here). To make this a bit more fluent, I wrote a ReSharper live template to generate the respective command line for the test (it is also included in the sample download – moled_cmd.xml). - This is just a quick-and-dirty ‘solution’. Maybe it makes sense to write an extra Gallio adapter plugin (similar to the many others that are already provided) and include it with the Gallio download package, if  there’s sufficient demand for it. As of now, the only way to run tests with the Moles framework from within Visual Studio is by using them with MSTest. From the command line, anything with a managed console runner can be used (provided that the appropriate extension is in place)… A typical Gallio/Moles command line (as generated by the mentioned R#-template) looks like that: "%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Moles\bin\moles.runner.exe" /runner:"%ProgramFiles%\Gallio\bin\Gallio.Echo.exe" "Gallio.Moles.Demo.dll" /args:/r:IsolatedAppDomain /args:/filter:"ExactType:TestFixture and Member:ReadFileContentWithMoles" -- Note: When using the command line with Echo (Gallio’s console runner), be sure to always include the IsolatedAppDomain option, otherwise the tests won’t use the instrumentation callbacks! -- License issues As I already said, the free mocking frameworks can mock only interfaces and virtual methods. if you want to mock other things, you need the Typemock Isolator tool for that, which comes with license costs (Although these ‘costs’ are ridiculously low compared to the value that such a tool can bring to a software project, spending money often is a considerable gateway hurdle in real life...).  The Moles framework also is not totally free, but comes with the same license conditions as the (closely related) Pex framework: It is free for academic/non-commercial use only, to use it in a ‘real’ software project requires an MSDN Subscription (from VS2010pro on). The demo solution The sample solution (VS 2008) can be downloaded from here. It contains the Gallio.Moles.dll which provides the here described Moled attribute, the above mentioned R#-template (moled_cmd.xml) and a test fixture containing the above described use case scenarios. To run it, you need the Gallio framework (download) and Microsoft Moles (download) being installed in the default locations. Happy testing…

• Allow anonymous upload for Vsftpd?

  I need a basic FTP server on Linux (CentOS 5.5) without any security measure, since the server and the clients are located on a test LAN, not connected to the rest of the network, which itself uses non-routable IP's behind a NAT firewall with no incoming access to FTP. Some people recommend Vsftpd over PureFTPd or ProFTPd. No matter what I try, I can't get it to allow an anonymous user (ie. logging as "ftp" or "anonymous" and typing any string as password) to upload a file: # yum install vsftpd # mkdir /var/ftp/pub/upload # cat vsftpd.conf listen=YES anonymous_enable=YES local_enable=YES write_enable=YES xferlog_file=YES #anonymous users are restricted (chrooted) to anon_root #directory was created by root, hence owned by root.root anon_root=/var/ftp/pub/incoming anon_upload_enable=YES anon_mkdir_write_enable=YES #chroot_local_user=NO #chroot_list_enable=YES #chroot_list_file=/etc/vsftpd.chroot_list chown_uploads=YES When I log on from a client, here's what I get: 500 OOPS: cannot change directory:/var/ftp/pub/incoming I also tried "# chmod 777 /var/ftp/incoming/", but get the same error. • Upgrade to 2008 R2

  I don't like it, Carruthers. It's just too quiet. Well, I've done the pre-production server, the main live server and the Reporting/BI server with remarkably little trouble. Pre-production and live were rebuilds. I failed live over to our log shipping standby for the duration, which has a gotcha I blogged about before. When I failed back to the primary live server again, it was very quick to bring the databases online. I understand the databases don't actually get upgraded until you recover them but there was no noticable delay. It's gone from 2005 Workgroup - limited to 4GB of memory - to 2008 R2 Standard so it can now use nearly all of the 30GB in the server. It's soo much faster. The reporting/BI server I upgraded in situ. This took a while but, again, went smoothly. Just watch out, because the master database was left at compatibility level 90. Also the upgrade decided to use the reporting service's credentials for database access when running reports. It didn't preserve the existing credentials and I had to go into the Reporting Configuration Manager to put them back in. Make sure you know what credentials your server is using before you upgrade. All things considered, a fairly painless experience. Now I just have to upgrade and reset our log shipping standby server again!

So if you want more/less take the groovy script and change, its easy stuff. The groovy script odi_create_repos.groovy is here, just open it in ODI before connecting and you will be able to create both master and work repositories with ease – or check the groovy out and script your own automation – you can construct the master, work and runtime repositories, so if you are embedding ODI as your DI engine this may be very useful. • Chrome: Saved username/password filled in incognito mode

  If I open an incognito window in Google Chrome and go to a webpage where Chrome has a saved username and password from (for example the login form on http://gmail.com), I see that my username and password are automatically filled in. Does that mean that I am not really incognito? Can the website see my username even if I don't explicitly log in? Or is there some mechanism behind the scenes that prevents the webpage from grabbing auto-filled values unless I actually log in? Clarification: Stored usernames (and passwords) are a lot like cookies: your unique identifier linked to a certain site, stored locally in your browser, available to the site when you open it. When you go incognito you ask your browser not to identify you to the sites you visit. It does that by (among other things) not exposing its cookies. Exposing the stored username in this mode does not make sense to me (but maybe I'm missing something...).

• GlassFish will not start when SNMP is enabled

  I have a GlassFish v3 app server running on 64-bit Debian Lenny. Everything is running fine, except I would like to monitor GF's JVM instance with SNMP. However, every time I try to enable it by adding the following <jvm-options> in domain.xml: -Dcom.sun.management.snmp.port=10161 -Dcom.sun.management.snmp.acl.file=/path/to/snmp.acl -Dcom.sun.management.snmp.interface=127.0.0.1 GlassFish refuses to start: $ asadmin start-domain Waiting for DAS to start .Error starting domain: default. The server exited prematurely with exit code 1. Command start-domain failed. $ There is also nothing illuminating (well, really nothing at all) in jvm.log or server.log. The snmp.acl file contains: acl = { { communities = public access = read-only managers = localhost } } and is chmod 600 (I know this is not the problem because it will actually fail with an error about the permissions if it is set to anything other than 600) $ java -version java version "1.6.0_0" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_0-b11) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 1.6.0_0-b11, mixed mode)
