  • Selecting first instance of class but not nested instances via jQuery

    - by DA
    Given the following hypothetical markup: <ul class="monkey"> <li> <p class="horse"></p> <p class="cow"></p> </li> </ul> <dl class="monkey"> <dt class="horse"></dt> <dd class="cow"> <dl> <dt></dt> <dd></dd> </dl> <dl class="monkey"> <dt class="horse"></dt> <dd class="cow"></dd> </dl> </dd> </dl> I want to be able to grab the 'first level' of horse and cow classes within each monkey class. But I don't want the NESTED horse and cow classes. I started with .children, but that won't work with the UL example as they aren't direct children of .monkey. I can use find: $('.monkey').find('.horse, .cow') but that returns all instances, including the nested ones. I can filter the find: $('.monkey').find('.horse, .cow').not('.cow .horse, .cow .cow') but that prevents me from selecting nested instances on a second function call. So...I guess what I'm looking for is 'find first "level" of this descendant'. I could likely do this with some looping logic, but was wondering if there is a selector and/or some combo of selectors that would achieve that logic.

  • jQuery Ajax load images problem

    - by jackysee
    I have a code that would call $.load() to get an HTML fragment. In the fragment there will be a list of images and a script that would do some calculation based on the list size. The fragment looks like <div> <ul> <li><img .../></li> <li><img .../></li> ... </ul> </div> <script> //... script to do calculation on the list width </script> Originally, I use css's max-width to ensure that the image would not exceed 180px. But as IE has no max-width, I use the expression hack. However, it seems when the image are first load, the script cannot get a correct width of image list. Seems like the script load earlier than the CSS expression. If it is a new page, I can certainly call $(window).load() to ensure all the images are loaded. But what can I do in an ajax html fragment request?

  • Data retrieval error in Jquery

    - by Ben
    I'm trying to retrieve data from a php file named return that contains <?php echo 'here is a string'; ?>. I'm doing this through an html file containing ` div { color:blue; } span { color:red; } var x; $.get("return.php", function(data){ x = data; }) function showAlert() {alert(x);} $(document).ready(function(){ alert(x); }); ` When the button is clicked it retrieves and displays the code fine, but on the page loading, it displays "undefined" instead of the data in return.php. Any solutions?

  • jquery prevent focus on click

    - by DA
    I have this sample code: $myTrigger .click(function(e){ alert('click'); }) .focus(function(e){ alert('focus'); $(this).click() }) The intent is that I want something to happen when you click on $myTrigger. If, on the other hand, you tab onto it via the keyboard (ie, focus) I want the exact same thing to happen, so I ask it to click. The catch is if I click on it, it also focuses. So both alerts are going off. Is there a way to prevent the focus event from going off when clicking?

  • Looping through list items with jquery

    - by Gallen
    I have this block of code listItems = $("#productList").find("li"); for (var li in listItems) { var product = $(li); var productid = product.children(".productId").val(); var productPrice = product.find(".productPrice").val(); var productMSRP = product.find(".productMSRP").val(); totalItemsHidden.val(parseInt(totalItemsHidden.val(), 10) + 1); subtotalHidden.val(parseFloat(subtotalHidden.val()) + parseFloat(productMSRP)); savingsHidden.val(parseFloat(savingsHidden.val()) + parseFloat(productMSRP - productPrice)); totalHidden.val(parseFloat(totalHidden.val()) + parseFloat(productPrice)); } and I'm not getting the desired results - totalItems is coming out as 180+ and the rest all NaN. I suspect its where i use var product = $(li); or perhaps with the expression on the loop itself. Either way - I need to loop through the <li> items in the <ul> labelled #productList

  • jQuery: on focus, do customized focus on textarea

    - by evilReiko
    My Code: $('#myTextArea').one('focus', function() { $('#myTextArea')[0].selectionStart = 2; $('#myTextArea')[0].selectionEnd = 6; $('#myTextArea')[0].focus(); }); The code works fine, on focus (only once), it selects from index 2 to 6. The problem: since this function is called on focus, it does the custom focus, but then it calls focus AGAIN and I lose focus of the selected text. Any possible solution?

  • jquery selecting element by data attribute

    - by zizo
    Is there an easy and straight-forward method to select elements based on their data attribute? For example, select all anchors that has data attribute named customerID which has value of 22. I am kind of hesitant to use rel or other attributes to store such information, but I find it much harder to select an element based on what data is stored in it. Thanks!

  • Looping and pausing after loading ajax content in Javascript JQuery

    - by Tristan
    I have what I though was a simple problem to solve (never is!) I'm trying to loop through a list of URL's in a javascript array I have made, load the first one, wait X seconds, then load the second, and continue until I start again. I got the array and looping working, trouble is, however I try and implement a "wait" using setInterval or similar, I have a structural issue, as the loop continues in the background. I tried to code it like this: $(document).ready(function(){ // my array of URL's var urlArray = new Array(); urlArray[0] = "urlOne"; urlArray[1] = "urlTwo"; urlArray[2] = "urlThree"; // my looping logic that continues to execute (problem starts here) while (true) { for (var i = 0; i < urlArray.length; i++) { $('#load').load(urlArray[i], function(){ // now ideally I want it to wait here for X seconds after loading that URL and then start the loop again, but javascript doesn't seem to work this way, and I'm not sure how to structure it to get the same effect }); } } });

  • jQuery getting text-shadow variabile

    - by Mircea
    Hi, I want to get 4 variables when I click on a span that have the CSS3 text-shadow propriety. So for a css propriety of text-shadow: -4px 11px 8px rgb(30, 43, 2);, my code should be: $("#element").click(function () { var text-shadow = $("#element").css("text-shadow") }); Would it be possible to get it split like: var y = "-4px"; var x = "11px"; var blur = "8px"; color = "rgb(30, 43, 2)"; I need to somehow split the first variable to get this data. Thanx

  • jQuery click event on parent, but finding the child (clicked) element

    - by Mahdi
    let say I have a parent element which has so many nested child elements inside of itself: <div id="p"> <div id="c1"> <div id="c2"></div> <div id="c3"></div> </div id="c4"> <div id="c5"></div> </div> </div> I've already bind a click event on the parent: $('#p').bind('click', function() { alert($(this).attr('id')); }); Because the event is assigned to the parent element, I always see the parent id, however, I'm wondering if there is any possible way to find out which of this child elements has been clicked? I also can't assign any event to the child elements or remove the event listener from parent div.

  • jQuery - color cycle animation with hsv colorspace?

    - by Sgt. Floyd Pepper
    Hi there, I am working on a project, which I need a special body-background for. The background-color should cycle through the color spectrum like a mood light. So I found this: http://buildinternet.com/2009/09/its-a-rainbow-color-changing-text-and-backgrounds/ "But" this snippet is working with the RGB colorspace which has some very light and dark colors in it. Getting just bright colors will only work with the HSV colorspace (e.g. having S and V static at 100 and letting H cycle). I don’t know how to convert and in fact how to pimp this snippet for my needs. Does anyone has an idea?? Thanks in advance. Best, Floyd

  • PHP JQuery: Where to specify uploadify destination folder

    - by Eamonn
    I have an uploadify script running, basic setup. Works fine when I hard code the destination folder for the images into uploadify.php - now I want to make that folder dynamic. How do I do this? I have a PHP variable $uploadify_path which contains the path to the folder I want. I have switched out my hard coded $targetPath = path/to/directory for $targetPath = $uploadify_path in both uploadify.php and check_exists.php, but it does not work. The file upload animation runs, says it is complete, yet the directory remains empty. The file is not hiding out somewhere else either. I see there is an option in the Javascript to specify a folder. I tried this also, but to no avail. If anyone could educate me on how to pass this variable destination to uploadify, I'd be very grateful. I include my current code for checking (basically default): The Javascript <script type="text/javascript"> $(function() { $('#file_upload').uploadify({ 'swf' : 'uploadify/uploadify.swf', 'uploader' : 'uploadify/uploadify.php', // Put your options here }); }); </script> uploadify.php $targetPath = $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . $uploadify_path; // Relative to the root if (!empty($_FILES)) { $tempFile = $_FILES['Filedata']['tmp_name']; $targetFile = $targetPath . $_FILES['Filedata']['name']; // Validate the file type $fileTypes = array('jpg','jpeg','gif','png'); // File extensions $fileParts = pathinfo($_FILES['Filedata']['name']); if (in_array($fileParts['extension'],$fileTypes)) { move_uploaded_file($tempFile,$targetFile); echo '1'; } else { echo 'Invalid file type.'; } }
