What is the best way to interop with NHibernate 2.0 and ASP.NET 3.5? How can I easily develop a CRUD application?
Is the ObjectDataSource the way to go?
Thank you.
I'm curious if anyone has done any performance comparisons with any or all of the main players in the .NET ORM space. Specifically I'm interested in comparisons between the following:
Linq to SQL
NHibernate
LLBL Gen
Entity Framework
Though it seems people don't really consider Linq to SQL a true ORM, I am still including it in this list. Some performance metrics would be nice to see.
Hi all,
I am looking for informations about the security model of Microsoft .NET
If you could explain me how it is design, or give me links to understand it, it would be very kind of you !
Thanks.
In unmanaged code you can create a thread in suspended state. In .NET Framework I can't find this option. Is it because the Thread constructor puts the thread in a suspended state? Is there other reasons why this is not supported?

We have message framing working by using a lengh prefix but using .NET 2.0 beginSend/BeginReceive.
Is message framing any different in 3.5, if so how should we implement it using the new framework?
Are there any useable examples out there which focus purely on message framing using 3.5?
Many thanks

thanks for any input
Hi, i was wondering.. if i have a static method on an asp.net web site (plain vanilla), is that accessible by all users of all sessions?
I guess what i am saying is the single instance of a method available to each client? or is there 1 instance for all clients for the site..
.NET 4 includes new concurrent data structures. The Bag and Dictionary collections have obvious applications but I cannot see any use for the Queue and Stack data structures. What are people using these for?
Also, I've noticed that the design based upon linked lists incurs a lot of allocation and that destroys scalability. This is surprising given that the sole purpose of these collections is multicore programming. Is this an inherent limitation or are they just badly implemented?
Hello,
I'm on an asp.net page and I want to redirect to another page and then come back to the original page in the same spot to finish executing the original page. I heard that Server.Execute might work. My question is how can I accomplish this or can I accomplish this?
Can someone please direct me on how to do this type of setup, i.e. I have a Windows Server with ASP.NET pages and would like to pass those credentials using Integrated Windows Authentication to a Linux-based Oracle DB.
I would like to execute a stored proc that simply updates a record. At this point I would like to keep it parameter less. But in future, I will be adding parameters to the stored proc. Can I simply do it via SQLDataSource? It will save me writing few lines of code to execute stored proc in a traditional ado.net. If its possible, could you please supply me with a sample code?
Thanks
I'm writing a .NET application that will make an RPC call to a Java application (via a message queue). The data sent in both directions will be large arrays of floating-point numbers. What is the best way to serialize them to send them across the wire? I'd like something more compact than text, but architecture-independent as the server may not be an x86 machine. The Java application can be changed as needed.
I recently read this Phil Haack post (The Most Useful .NET Utility Classes Developers Tend To Reinvent Rather Than Reuse) from last year, and thought I'd see if anyone has any additions to the list.
Pure Chat looked great but it was discontinued. Damn.
Any other great chat programs for ASP.NET? Looking for one that can be used in Operator Help mode.
As far as I know, for installation of an assmebly for .NET is as follows.
'gacutil /i nunit.framework.dll'
And for the mono, set the directory to MONO_PATH is doing the job.
Is this correct?
I start learning ASP.NET few days. I don't know why my computer hangs when I debug my very simple application? My computer hangs, not only IDE hangs? Please help me!
Hi All,
My application is in ASP.NET 2.0 with C#. I have a regular expression validator with the regular expression ^[0-9]*(\\,)?[0-9]?[0-9]?$, now my client don't want this validation at client side but on button click i.e. Server Side.
EX: I have to check the value of txtPrice textbox
Please let me know how can I put this regular expression validation on server side.
Thanks in advance.
I need a way of generating a word document (from a template or something) and inserting an image at a specific place. Does anyone have any pointers on the best way to do this?
I worked on a project that used Office Automation in .NET 1.1 a few years ago, and it was really unspeakably poor. I'm assuming OA has either been improved or been superceeded by a better solution, but I'm not finding much advice on google.
I want to be able to find the old value of a asp.net control (textbox, checkbox etc) without relying on events (e.g. OnTextChange event). Something like "someTextboxControl.OldText" would be perfect! I imagine that it is stored in the viewstate and need to somehow get at it via a custom control. Any ideas?
Hi,
I'm new to C# and .NET, ,and have been reading around about it.
I need to know why and when do I need to release resources? Doesn't the garbage collector take care of everything? When do I need to implement IDisposable, and how is it different from destructor in C++?
Also, if my program is rather small i.e. a screensaver, do I need to care about releasing resources?
Thanks.
In a project using .Net4 - should there be any issues referencing dlls built for older versions of .Net? We're talking 3rd Party dlls here.
I'm asking this as a general question. Specifically I have a problem referencing FluentNHibernate.dll - built with .Net3.5. It worked justed fine before I updated my project from .Net3.5 to .Net4.
Is there a blog or MSDN article, which lists all the new methods which are added in .Net 4.0 in existing classes? I could not find any.
Two which I found on blogs till now:
String.IsNullOrWhiteSpace
Enum.HasFlag
Are there more such methods added which anybody found? If yes, please share.
One of the downsides of web.config/app.config is that it's just Magic Strings everywhere, since it's just an XML file.
Interpreted languages like PHP or Ruby have the advantage that the configuration is just code that is executed. In .net, doing stuff in code requires a redeployment, which defeats the purpose.
Now, before I build my own web.config replacement based on Boo or PowerShell I wanted to know if there is an existing one?
