  • Will Visual Studio 2010 democratize UML ?

    I've been very upset these past years with all the UML tools (especially the clunky mammoth Rational Rose from IBM which I really hated each time a client asked to use it). I think UML did suffer from bad integration. I rarely used UML myself because of lack of productivity. So I had a positive surprise with Visual Studio 2010 especially the sequence diagram reversing tool which really helps understand code. For people who had tried VS 2010 Ultimate do you think the same ?

  • Can we still develop Silverlight 2 applications

    Hi there, I've inherited a set of Silverlight 2 applications (new job), one of which needs upgrading. We can do the updates in code without problems, but the available dev machines all appear to be running Silverlight 3. I can't seem to find Silverlight 2 tools for download any more - is there a way to multi-target Silverlight the same way we can multi-target older versions of the main CLR? thanks Toby

  • JavaScript / HTML highlighting / debugging in Eclipse using PhoneGap

    I am writing an app using PhoneGap for Android in Eclipse. Since the project is an Android project, it's in a Java perspective. For whatever reason, Eclipse won't highlight HTML and JavaScript for me while in an Android/Java project/perspective and switching to the JavaScript perspective doesn't highlight the code either. Without highlighting or debugging tools, the debug process is very slow. How do I tell Eclipse to highlight HTML and JavaScript for me while working in a Java Environment?

    I have an actionscript 2 application that I'd like to write automated UI testing for. For example I'd like to simulate a mouse click on a button and validate that a movie-clip is displayed at the right position and in the right color... Basically, UI testing. What are the best tools available or what is the desired approach? In JavaScript there is the selenium framework which does a nice job. Any similar tool for flash?

    A while ago I read a news here, that Microsoft changed its strategy for silverlight and will replace it with HTML5. As it is a controversial discussion, some guys from Microsoft and other corporation wrote about it and some agreed and some don't? As it is important to be aware of near future of tools that you are using, what do you think, Will Microsoft replace Silverlight with HTML5 or not? I myself believe that it will happen in 2012, the time that HTML5 released completely, and Microsoft are releasing VS2012.

  • How do you set the default source for the Output window in Visual Studio?

    We added a SharePoint BDC model project to a solution in Visual Studio 2010. Ever since, whenever the solution is built, instead of showing the Build output in the Output window, it insists on having "SharePoint Tools" selected in the "Show Output from:" drop-down, just to say "Model validation started ... Model validation completed with no errors." Short of shutting off any SharePoint projects in the build configuration, can this behavior be overridden?

    I have been looking around at web applications and websites with rich graphs, charts, and data visualization and for the most part have been able to determine which frameworks or tools websites are using. However I was looking over 'resumup.com' and couldn't determine what they are using. Does anyone know off hand or can you tell?     We have multiple maven projects depending on on our own common libraries. When we upgrade a library it would be useful to quickly find out which projects have a dependency on the library (and might need to use the new version) Obviously I can manually look in all the pom files or write a script to do it but this is less than ideal. Are there any tools that provide this functionality. e.g. a hudson plugin, Nexus, artifactory etc?

  • Two Applications using the same index file with Hibernate Search

    Hi, I want to know if it is possible to use the same index file for an entity in two applications. Let me be more specific: We have an online Application with a frondend for the users and an application for the backend tasks (= administrator interface). Both are running on the same JBOSS AS. Both Applications are using the same database, so they are using the same entities. Of course the package names are not the same in both applications for the entities. So this is our usecase: A user should be able to search via the frondend. The user is only allowed to see results which are tagged with "visible". This tagging happens in our admin interface, so the index for the frontend should be updated every time an entity is tagged as "visible" in the backend. Of course both applications do have the same index root folder. In my index folder there are 2 index files: de.x.x.admin.model.Product de.x.x.frondend.model.Product How to "merge" this via Hibernate Search Configuration? I just did not get it via the documentation... Thanks for any help!

    The new documentation on ProGuard for Android says to add a line to the default.properties file in the project home directory. However, on opening this file, I read at the top: # This file is automatically generated by Android Tools. # Do not modify this file -- YOUR CHANGES WILL BE ERASED! Am I missing something? Also, is there a way to enable ProGuard only for a production build from Eclipse (i.e., when exporting the finished product)?

Also, it does not provide any option to filter method names by Regex like DotFuscator. DotFuscator is very good but it is too expensive. I have heard about Xeno code and other tools.     I'm experimenting with application cache based on this example: http://html5demos.com/html5demo.manifest This example works fine in ff, but when I create analogous site (almost identical) I get only status "UNCACHED (numeric value 0) -- The ApplicationCache object's cache host is not associated with an application cache at this time." I work on xampp and I've set correct mime-type. When the page is loading ff "is asking to store data on your computer for offline use" and when I show Tools - Options - Advanced - Network - Offline data there is localhost but with 0B size.
