  I'm developing a servlet that receives a multipart request with content of multiple files, and I'm using apache commons file upload libraries. • Lucene.net create+lock errors in ASP.NET

  I have an issue with Lucene.net. It throws a lock exception. After poking around i notice these things. My code below works in an app bit when calling in Application_Start i get a NoSuchDirectoryException. Not closing the writer (as my code doesnt do below) i WILL get a LockObtainFailedException with the message Lock obtain timed out: SimpleFSLock@<FULL_PATH> from either app or asp.net These thread hinted when spawning threads they get less permissions then i do (but! my main thread has problems as well...) and one solution is to impersonate IIS. I am using visual studios 2010. I am not sure how full blown it is but my attempt to impersonate it failed. • WPF custom BalloonTips problem with multithreading

  Hi, I have read other related question but i cant really get them to relate to this so I thought it were best to ask, Im pretty new to WPF and so on so please bear with me. I am using this http://www.codeproject.com/KB/WPF/wpf_notifyicon.aspx api to work with custom WPF Windows (in particular FancyBalloon). However, i'm coming across the following problem, I seem unable to start off BalloonTips in a separate thread ( i need this because i'm parsing emails and hence if there are 3 emails for instance, it displays the first email (that works fine), but when it comes to the second email it crashes with a TargetInvocationException , {"Specified element is already the logical child of another element. Disconnect it first."}. Thing is, im supposedly working with the same instance and i have attempted calling it to close it before, disposing it etc but to no avail. (then again if i dispose it, i cant create another instance as apparently WPF UI components must be called from a static thread so throughout the looping of emails + displaying balloon, i am trying to use the same BalloonTip. Any suggestions please? I am really at a loss here and i've been on it for quite a while now :/ I was wondering if there was anyone

  Hello, I'm trying to scan for wireless networks and found this helpful source on the net. Unfortunately it's not working and I have no idea why. My problem is that I can't wait 10 minutes for the result - I need them within a few seconds and thought about setting the boolean variable waiting on false as soon as I get a result.... well, it runs forever ... looks like nothing is received.   Hi, I've an ASCX control (WebParts aren't used in this solution) which interrogates CMS 4's data via the API provided by Microsoft.Crm.Sdk and Microsoft.Crm.SdkTypeProxy. The solution works until it's deployed to Sharepoint. • Problem upgrading eclipse rcp app from 3.3 to 3.5 on Mac OS

  I previously had an eclipse rcp app based on eclipse 3.3 pugins deployed on both windows and mac OS X 10.4. i'm now trying to port the app to java 1.6 and eclipse 3.5 (Build id: 20100218-1602) plugins on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard). I can launch the product from eclipse 3.5 on windows but not on Mac OS X. I have the 64bit cocoa eclipse IDE and java 6. In the launch configuration I set runtime JRE to JVM 1.6.0 and added required plugins. • pthreads: reader/writer locks, upgrading read lock to write lock

  I'm using read/write locks on Linux and I've found that trying to upgrade a read locked object to a write lock deadlocks. i.e. // acquire the read lock in thread 1. pthread_rwlock_rdlock( &lock ); // make a decision to upgrade the lock in threads 1. pthread_rwlock_wrlock( &lock ); // this deadlocks as already hold read lock. I've read the man page and it's quite specific. The calling thread may deadlock if at the time the call is made it holds the read-write lock (whether a read or write lock). What is the best way to upgrade a read lock to a write lock in these circumstances.. I don't want to introduce a race on the variable I'm protecting. Presumably I can create another mutex to encompass the releasing of the read lock and the acquiring of the write lock but then I don't really see the use of read/write locks. I might as well simply use a normal mutex. Thx

  Hi folks, I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010 and I've just downloaded and installed Script# 0.6.2 for VS 2010. I'm trying to follow the clock example in the Read Me pdf but can't get it to compile. I've created a new Script# Class Library project inside my solution called Clock, renamed the .cs file to ClockBehaviour and added the following code as per the example: using System; using System.DHTML; using ScriptFX; using ScriptFX.UI; namespace Clock { public class ClockBehavior : Behavior { private int _intervalCookie; public ClockBehavior(DOMElement domElement, string id) : base(domElement, id) { _intervalCookie = Window.SetInterval(OnTimer, 1000); } public override void Dispose() { if (_intervalCookie != 0) { Window.ClearInterval(_intervalCookie); } base.Dispose(); } private void OnTimer() { DateTime dateTime = new DateTime(); DOMElement.InnerHTML = dateTime.Format("T"); } } } When I try and compile the project I get errors saying that the System.DHMTL, ScriptFX and ScriptFX.UI namespaces could not be found (and some others, but I guess by fixing these errors the others will fall out). It feels like I'm not referencing the correct projects/dlls. In the References for the project I have mscorlib and Script.Web. I've tried using the object browser find the classes (such as Behavior) in other namespaces but with no luck. I've added all of the .dlls from the ScriptSharp folder in Program Files but the namespaces still can't be found. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks, Hugh

• WCF Service Layer in n-layered application: performance considerations

  Hi all. When I went to University, teachers used to say that in good structured application you have presentation layer, business layer and data layer. This is what I heard for more than 5 years. When I started working I discovered that this is true but sometimes is better to have more than just three layers. Two or three days ago I discovered this article by John Papa that explain how to use Entity Framework in layered application. According to that article you should have: UI Layer and Presentation Layer (Model View Pattern) Service Layer (WCF) Business Layer Data Access Layer Service Layer is, to me, one of the best ideas I've ever heard since I work. Your UI is then completely "diconnected" from Business and Data Layer. Now when I went deeper by looking into provided source code, I began to have some questions. Can you help me in answering them? Question #0: is this a good enterpise application template in your opinion? Question #1: where should I host the service layer? Should it be a Windows Service or what else? Question #2: in the source code provided the service layer expose just an endpoint with WSHttpBinding. This is the most interoperable binding but (I think) the worst in terms of performances (due to serialization and deserializations of objects). Do you agree? I have an app that runs without problems on the device in Debug Configuration (also multiple times). Once I put it into Release Configuration (which I need before publishing?), the app starts without problems and I can proceed to the next page, where I show an core-plot graph. BUT only if I run it from xcode. As soon as I end the App and start it again, it opens without problems, but on the next page, it crashes. After that actionListener even if I can see in the logs that the manBean has changed, this is not reflected in the page in the browser. It's like not refreshing. I tried setting a rerender in the rich:tab but that's also not doing it. Any idea? Also happy about other approaches, this might be not the best one.

• Best practice for structuring a new large ASP.NET MVC2 plus EF4 VS2010 solution?

  Hi, we are building a new web application using Microsoft ASP.NET MVC2 and Entity Framework 4. Although I am sure there is not one right answer to my question, we are struggling to agree a VS2010 solution structure. The application will use SQL Server 2008 with a possible future Azure cloud version. We are using EF4 with T4 POCOs (model-first) and accessing a number of third-party web-services. We will also be connecting to a number of external messaging systems. UI is based on standard ASP.NET (MVC) with jQuery. In future we may deliver a Silverlight/WPF version - as well as mobile. So put simply, we start with a VS2010 blank solution - then what? I have suggested 4 folders Data (the EF edmx file etc), Domain (entities, repositories), Services (web-services access), Presentation (web ui etc). However under Presentation, creating the ASP.NET MVC2 project obviously creates it's own Models folder etc and it just doesn't seem to fit too well in this proposed structure. I'm also missing a business layer (or does this sit in the domain?). Again I am sure there is no one right way to do it, but I'd really appreciate your views on this. Thanks

• Sanity check: UIBarButtonItem crashes trying to perform action

  One of my users is reporting a crash on his device, an iPhone 3GS. Other devices of the same type are not reporting similar behavior. He's sent me a crash log and based on reading it, I'm not sure how to proceed. I hope I'm not interpreting the crash log incorrectly but it doesn't look like my action has been called yet. • what type of bug causes a program to slowly use more processor power and all of a sudden go to 100%?

  Hi, I was hoping to get some good ideas as to what might be causing a really nasty bug. This is a program which is transmitting data over a socket, and also receives messages back. I could explain lots more, but I don't think this will help here. I'm just searching for hypothetical problems which can cause the following behaviour: program runs processor time slowly accumulates (till around 60%) all of a sudden (could be after 30 but also after 60 seconds) the processor time shoots to 100%. the program halts completely In my syslog it always ends on one line with a memory allocation (something similar to: myArray = new byte[16384]) in the same thread. now here is the weird part: if I set the debugger anywhere...it immediately stops on that line. So just the act of setting a breakpoint, made the thread continue (it wasn't running since I saw no log output anymore) I was thinking 'deadlock' but that would not cause 100% processor power. If anything, the opposite. Also, setting a breakpoint would not cause a deadlock to end. anyone else a theoretical suggestion as to what kind of 'construct' might cause this effect? (apart from 'bad programming') ;^) thanks EDIT: I just noticed.... by setting the sendspeed slower, the problem shows itself much later than expected. I would think around the same amount of packets send...but no the amount of packets send is much higher this way before it has the same problem.

• Prepared transactions with Postgres 8.4.3 on CentOS

  I have set 'max_prepared_transactions' to 20 in the local postgres.config and yet the transaction fails with the following error trace (but only on Linux). Since in Windows the same code works seamlessly I am wandering if this isn't an issue of permission. What would be the solution? • Parallel WCF calls to multiple servers

  I have a WCF service (the same one) running on multiple servers, and I'd like to call all instances in parallel from a single client. I'm using ChannelFactory and the interface (contract) to call the service. Each service has a local <endpoint> client defined in the .config file. What I'm trying to do is build some kind of generic framework to avoid code duplication. For example a synchronous call in a single thread looks something like this: Dim remoteName As String = "endpointName1" Dim svcProxy As ChannelFactory(Of IMyService) = New ChannelFactory(Of IMyService)(remoteName) Try svcProxy.Open() Dim svc As IMyService = svcProxy.CreateChannel() nodeResult = svc.TestRemote("foo") Finally svcProxy.Close() End Try The part I'm having difficulty with is how to specify and actually invoke the actual remote method (eg "TestRemote") without having to duplicate the above code, and all the thread-related stuff that invokes that, for each method. In the end, I'd like to be able to write code along the lines of (consider this psuedo code): Dim results as Dictionary(Of Node, ExpectedReturnType) results = ParallelInvoke(IMyService.SomeMethod, parameter1, parameter2) where ParallelInvoke() will take the method as an argument, as well as the parameters (paramArray or object() .. whatever) and then go run the request on each remote node, block until they all return an answer or timeout, and then return the results into a Dictionary with the key as the node, and the value as whatever value it returned. I can then (depending on the method) pick out the single value I need, or aggregate all the values from each server together, etc. I'm pretty sure I can do this using reflection and InvokeMember(), but that requires passing the method as a string (which can lead to errors like calling a non-existing method that can't be caught at compile time), so I'd like to see if there is a cleaner way to do this. • ASP.NET Session State Timeout Problem

  I am trying to detect a session state timeout in my asp.net application and am unable to do so. Also, all these pages have EnableSessionState="True". I have a blank Session_Start() method in my global.asax file if that is relevant at all. For some reason after the first request, the "Session.IsNewSession" property is always false. It is true only for the first request and then is always false. I have my timeout set to 1 minute. The session never seems to timeout. What am I missing here ? Thanks in advance.
