  • HttpsURLConnection failing intermittently to the same URL

    - by Arkaitz Jimenez
    I think I'm experiencing the same as http://groups.google.com/group/android-developers/msg/9d37d64aad0ee357 This is Android 1.5 SDK. I happen to call several times below code(which is in a method) with the same url and it fails intermittently. When it fails, there is no exception, the stream is empty so the readConnection fails, and getResponseCode returns -1. Global caching is disabled, setDefaultUseCaches(false); I suppose there must be some kind of url connection object pool somewhere. Any idea on how can I workaround this? HttpURLConnection connection = null; try { URL url = new URL(this.url); connection = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection(); connection.setRequestProperty("Authorization", "basic " + Base64Coder.encodeString(user + ":" + password)); connection.setRequestProperty("User-Agent", userAgent); connection.connect(); readConnection(connection.getInputStream()); connection.disconnect(); } catch (IOException ex) { reportException(ex, connection.getResponseCode()) } catch (ParserException ex) { reportException(ex, connection.getResponseCode()) }

  • Tracking/Counting Word Frequency

    - by Joel Martinez
    I'd like to get some community consensus on a good design to be able to store and query word frequency counts. I'm building an application in which I have to parse text inputs and store how many times a word has appeared (over time). So given the following inputs: "To Kill a Mocking Bird" "Mocking a piano player" Would store the following values: Word Count ------------- To 1 Kill 1 A 2 Mocking 2 Bird 1 Piano 1 Player 1 And later be able to quickly query for the count value of a given arbitrary word. My current plan is to simply store the words and counts in a database, and rely on caching word count values ... But I suspect that I won't get enough cache hits to make this a viable solution long term. Can anyone suggest algorithms, or data structures, or any other idea that might make this a well-performing solution?

  • Static variables in C and C++

    - by Naveen
    Is there any difference between a variable declared as static outside any function between C and C++. I read that static means file scope and the variables will not be accessible outside the file. I also read that in C, global variables are static . So does that mean that global variables in C can not be accessed in another file?

  • DateTime And ParseExact Problems

    - by WizardsSleeve
    Hi There I wish to convert my string in format dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss to a DateTime of the same format. Dim ukCulture As System.Globalization.CultureInfo = New System.Globalization.CultureInfo("en-GB") Dim myDateTime As DateTime myDateTime = DateTime.ParseExact("18/05/2010 23:42:10, "dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm:ss", ukCulture) When I step through this code the variable myDateTime is 05/18/2010 23:42:10 it appears that the dd/mm is the wrong way around and I cant work out how to correct this. Can ayone offer any guidance on how to correct this please?

  • In google app engine, how to iterate through form fields (python, wsgiref.handlers)

    - by MarcoB
    Using python and wsgiref.handlers, I can get a single variable from a form with self.handler.request.get(var_name), but how do I iterate through all form variables, be they from GET and POST? Is it something like this? for field in self.handler.request.fields: value = self.handler.request.get(field) Again, it should include both fields included in the POST and fields from the query string, as in a GET request. Thanks in advance folks...

  • Read and write .NET Objects in SQL Database without serialization.

    - by Mohit
    Hello, I have a small query. I need to create a Caching Service of my own that will write and read .NET Objects to and from the Database. Now, I have achieved that with the help of Binary Serialization. But the Problem is I need to deliberately marked my objects as [Serializable], which makes me think that what if someone will try to add an object which is not marked as [Serializable]. Thus, I need to find a way to read and write Objects to Database without Serialization. I have one thought too.. As we all know Session can store any object in it. Now, we can make sessions to be stored in the DB, outproc. What mechanism it uses to store these objects without serializing or deserializing. Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks. M.B

  • Where is the VB.Net debugger "Make Object ID" function?

    - by Josh
    When using the visual studio 2008 debugger with c# i can right-click on a variable and choose "Make Object ID" which allows me to watch that object (via it's ID) regardless of whether it is in the current stack frame or not. When the debugger is in VB code, (doesnt matter if it's run from a c# unit test or a vb unit test) That option isn't there. Where did VB put this feature? Or does it simply not support it like so many other helpful c# features?

  • Strategy to rename the require_once function?

    - by openfrog
    Rather than just writing a new function called import() i'd like to know if there's a better solution. Otherwise require_once would be included in the scope of import() only, which is bad for any "global" variable there. My import() function would work differently than require_once, but serves the same purpose (enhanced usability).

  • How do I create a loop based off this array?

    - by dmanexe
    I'm trying to process this array, first testing for the presence of a check, then extrapolating the data from quantity to return a valid price. Here's the input for fixed amounts of items, with no variable quantity. <input type="checkbox" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][checked]" value="<?=$item->id?>"> <input type="hidden" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][quantity]" value="1" /> Here's the inputs for variable amounts of items. <input type="checkbox" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][checked]" value="<?=$item->id?>"> <input class="item_mult" value="0" type="text" name="measure[<?=$item->id?>][quantity]" /> So, the resulting array is multidimensional. Here's an output: Array ( [1] => Array ( [quantity] => 1 ) [2] => Array ( [quantity] => 1 ) [3] => Array ( [quantity] => 1 ) ... [14] => Array ( [checked] => 14 [quantity] => 999 ) ) Here's the loop I'm using to take this array and process items checked off the form in the first place. I guess the question essentially boils down to how do I structure my conditional statement to incorporate the multi-dimensional array? foreach($field as $value): if ($value['checked'] == TRUE) { $query = $this->db->get_where('items', array('id' => $value['checked']))->row(); #Test to see if quantity input is present if ($value['quantity'] == TRUE) { $newprice = $value['quantity'] * $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } #Just return the base value if not else { $newprice = $query->price; $totals[] = $newprice; } } else { } ?> <p><?=$query->name?> - <?=money_format('%(#10n', $newprice)?></p> <? endforeach; ?>

  • Filemaker XSL 20sec Query Latency

    - by Ian Wetherbee
    I have an ASP frontend that loads data from a Filemaker database using XSL to perform simple queries. The problem is that the first page load takes 20 seconds +/- 200ms, then the next few page refreshes within a minute of the first request take <200ms, then the cycle starts over again. Each page load makes only 2 XSL queries, and they execute fast after the first page load, so what is causing the delay on the first page load? I have caching turned up with a 100% hit rate, and number of connections at 100. I've tried with XSL database sessions on and off, and session time anywhere from 1 to 60 minutes without any changes. The XSL loads from ASP use a GET request and add a Basic Authorization header to authenticate each time. During fast page requests, the fmserver.exe and fmswpc.exe processes don't even flinch, but during a 20 second holdup I see fmserver jump to 30% CPU and a 3mb I/O read a few seconds into the request, and occasionally fmswpc jump to 60% CPU.

  • Drupal does not recognize my website has been installed

    - by Marcos Buarque
    After a successful Drupal install, I was trying to follow the security recommendations and reverted the settings.php file to 444 permissions (read, read, read). Then, all of a sudden, right after doing that, Drupal does not recognize the installation process was completed. It went back to the install screen. Worst of all. I did chmod back to 666 (write, write, write) but it does not work any more. When I move forward as if I was going to install Drupal again, he tells me he does not have permissions to create the files folder under sites/default... But since the installation has already been completed... the files folder is already there... I am puzzled... Could it be some sort of server caching? Since this is one of my first adventures with a Linux server, I am a bit confused. Any help appreciated... Thanks.

  • foo and _foo - about variables inside a class

    - by kame
    class ClassName(object): """ """ def __init__(self, foo, bar): """ """ self.foo = foo # read-write property self.bar = bar # simple attribute def _set_foo(self, value): self._foo = value def _get_foo(self): return self._foo foo = property(_get_foo, _set_foo) a = ClassName(1,2) #a._set_foo(3) print a._get_foo() When I print a._get_foo() the function _get_foo prints the variable self._foo . But where does it come from? self._foo and self.foo are different, aren't they?

  • Assigning IDs to instances of a class (Pythonic)

    - by mellort
    I want to have each instance of some class have a unique integer identifier based on the order that I create them, starting with (say) 0. In Java, I could do this with a static class variable. I know I can emulate the same sort of behavior with Python, but what would be the most 'Pythonic' way to do this? Thanks

  • String literals in python

    - by kjakeb
    Hello, Is there a way to declare a string variable in python such that everything inside of it is automatically escaped, or has its literal character value? I'm NOT asking how to escape the quotes with slashes, that's obvious. What I'm asking for is a general purpose way for making EVERYTHING in a string literal so that I don't have to manually go through and escape everything for very large strings. Anyone know of a solution? Thanks!

  • Clean way to assign value unless empty

    - by atmorell
    Hello, I often need to assign a variable, if the source value is set. So far I have done it like this: filters[:red] = params[:search][:red] unless params[:search][:red].nil? This works but looks a bit clumsy. There must be a more DRY way of getting this result. Any suggestions? Best regards. Asbjørn Morell.

  • Any way to chunk gzip with Apache and PHP

    - by donatJ
    I have a web application on a site that takes a while (~10 seconds) to complete a portion of the page near the bottom - it has been as optimized as it can be, and caching is not an option. We have compression enabled on the server via an .htaccess directive SetOutputFilter DEFLATE the problem is this causes the whole page to be held until completion before it starts outputting to the user, this is not optimal as the user sees nothing until the page completes. I have also tried it via the php ob_start("ob_gzhandler"); method. Currently I have a <FilesMatch > in my .htaccess restricting this specific script from being compressed. Basically my question is this - Is there a way to say chunk gzip or deflate so that the user gets it in pieces, so they can see that the page has begun loading?

  • Cache an FTP connection via session variables for use via AJAX?

    - by Chad Johnson
    I'm working on a Ruby web Application that uses the Net::FTP library. One part of it allows users to interact with an FTP site via AJAX. When the user does something, and AJAX call is made, and then Ruby reconnects to the FTP server, performs an action, and outputs information. Every time the AJAX call is made, Ruby has to reconnect to the FTP server, and that's slow. Is there a way I could cache this FTP connection? I've tried caching in the session hash, but "We're sorry, but something went wrong" is displayed, and a TCP dump is outputted in my logs whenever I attempt to store it in the session hash. I haven't tried memcache yet. Any suggestions?

  • How to import php with javascript?

    - by dcp3450
    I know JavaScript is client side and PHP is server-side. I also know this is an odd question. However, the CMS editor I'm using will not allow php to be stored to the database (it's the same editor used by Dupral). I can store JavaScript though. Can I import a php file with JavaScript. Or rather read the php file, store the content in a variable then out put the content to the screen?
