  • Configuration manager for PHP

    - by Jack
I am working on code re-factoring of configuration file loading part in PHP. Earlier I was using multiple 'ini' files but now I plan to go for single XML file which will be containing all configuration details of the project. Problem is, if somebody wants configuration file in ini or DB or anything else and not the default one (in this case XML), my code should handle that part. If somebody wants to go for other configuration option like ini, he will have to create ini file similar to my XML configuration file and my configuration manager should take care everything like parsing, storing in cache. For that I need a mechanism lets say proper interface for my configuration data where the underlying data store can be anything( XML, DB, ini etc) also I don't want it to be dependent on these underlying store and anytime in future this should be extensible to other file formats.

  • Recover backup copy of a ubuntu linux installation on a usb stick using dd

    - by Werner
Hi, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on a usb stick in persistent install mode. So I could boot the laptop or my desktop computer with the stick, at boot time. Once I needed the 8GB stick for another purposes so I thought about coyping it to my desktop doing from mac os x: dd if=/dev/disks3s of=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy Now I am trying to do the opposite, after having used the stick, which was formatted to NTFS, just doing dd if=/Users/jack/Desktop/usb_copy of=/dev/disks3s but although I can see that almost of the files are there, I can not boot again. IT is also strange the the file permissions are kind of strange, something like _user What can I do ? Thanks

  • What good technology/programming vodcasts are out there?

    - by Sam Saffron
I'm trying to round up a list of programming/technology related Vodcasts. Related Question: What good technology podcasts are out there? Here I am looking for podcasts which include Video content like: dnr tv : http://www.dnrtv.com/ Channel 9 : http://channel9.msdn.com/ Dimecasts : http://dimecasts.net/ Railscasts : http://railscasts.com/ Zendcasts : http://www.zendcasts.com/ Net Tuts : http://net.tutsplus.com/category/videos/screencasts/ Feel free to edit this post, and improve the list. (with perhaps university lectures in RSS formats etc etc... ) For the voting to have even a slight amount of meaning please include only one vodcast per post. If this is a dupe, let me know and ill delete it.

  • Django's makemessages creates a lot of fuzzy entries

    - by jack
Each time I added some strings to a Django string, I run "django-admin.py makemessages -all" to generate .PO files for all locales. The problem is even I only added 5 news strings, the makemessages command will make 50 strings as fuzzy in .PO files which brings a lot of extra work for our locale maintainers. This also makes the entire i18n unusable before they manually revise those fuzzy strings.

  • iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

    - by Adam Jack
Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

  • Multiple records with one request in RESTful system

    - by keithjgrant
All the examples I've seen regarding a RESTful architecture have dealt with a single record. For example, a GET request to mydomain.com/foo/53 to get foo 53 or a POST to mydomain.com/foo to create a new Foo. But what about multiple records? Being able to request a series of Foos by id or post an array of new Foos generally would be more efficient with a single API request rather than dozens of individual requests. Would you "overload" mydomain.com/foo to handle requests for both a single or multiple records? Or would you add a mydomain.com/foo-multiple to handle plural POSTs and GETs? I'm designing a system that may potentially need to get many records at once (something akin to mydomain.com/foo/53,54,66,86,87) But since I haven't seen any examples of this, I'm wondering if there's something I'm just not getting about a RESTful architecture that makes this approach "wrong".

  • Setting variables in shell script by running commands

    - by rajya vardhan
    >cat /tmp/list1 john jack >cat /tmp/list2 smith taylor It is guaranteed that list1 and list2 will have equal number of lines. f(){ i=1 while read line do var1 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list1` var2 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list2` echo $i,$var1,$var2 i=`expr $i+1` echo $i,$var1,$var2 done < $INFILE } So output of f() should be: 1,john,smith 2,jack,taylor But getting 1,p,p 1+1,p,p If i replace following: var1 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list1` var2 = `sed -n '$ip' /tmp/list2` with this: var1=`head -$i /tmp/vip_list|tail -1` var2=`head -$i /tmp/lb_list|tail -1` Then output: 1,john,smith 1,john,smith Not an expert of shell, so please excuse if sounds childish :)

I have 3 entities: Goods [GID(PK), GoodName] Persons [PID(PK), PersonName] Roles [RID(PK), RoleName] But now I need to associate these object with each other. In other words, each Good can have MANY Persons in MANY Roles. For example: Book (GID#1), can have 3 associated persons: 1. Jack (PID#1) in role Author (RID#1) 2. Jack (PID#1) in role Editor (RID#2) 3. Bill (PID#2) in role Painter (RID#3) How can it be done in POCO format in Entity Framework 4?

  • Removing file locks in Windows and Java

    - by Jack
I have a Java program that opens a file using the RandomAccessFile class. I'd like to be able to rename that file while it is opened by Java. In Unix, this isn't a problem. Does anyone know how I can do this in Windows? Should I set Java to open it a certain way? Thanks in advance.

  • Updating protected using update_all

    - by Jack
Since you cannot use the normal 'update' and 'update_attribute' methods from ActiveRecord to update a protected attribute, is the following the best way to update an attribute for a single user? User.update_all("admin = true","id = 1") I'm guessing this doesn't lie in the 'best practice' category, so I'm just curious if there is a more appropriate way.

  • x86 assembler question

    - by b-gen-jack-o-neill
Hi, I have 2 simple, but maybe tricky questions. Let´s say I have assembler instruction: MOV EAX,[ebx+6*7] - what I am curious is, does this instruction really actually translates into opcode as it stands,so computation of code in brackets is encoded into opcode, or is this just pseudo intruction for compiler, not CPU, so that compiler before computes the value in brackets using add mul and so, store outcome in some reg and than uses MOV EAX,reg with computed value? Just to be clear, I know the output will be the same. I am interested in execution. Second is about LEA instruction. I know what it does, but I am more interested wheather its real instruction, so compiles does not further change it, just make it into opcode as it stands, or just pseudo code for compiler to, again, first compute adress and than store it.

  • Hibernate Lazy init exception in spring scheduled job

    - by Noam Nevo
I have a spring scheduled job (@Scheduled) that sends emails from my system according to a list of recipients in the DB. This method is annotated with the @Scheduled annotation and it invokes a method from another interface, the method in the interface is annotated with the @Transactional annotation. Now, when i invoke the scheduled method manually, it works perfectly. But when the method is invoked by spring scheduler i get the LazyInitFailed exception in the method implementing the said interface. What am I doing wrong? code: The scheduled method: @Component public class ScheduledReportsSender { public static final int MAX_RETIRES = 3; public static final long HALF_HOUR = 1000 * 60 * 30; @Autowired IScheduledReportDAO scheduledReportDAO; @Autowired IDataService dataService; @Autowired IErrorService errorService; @Scheduled(cron = "0 0 3 ? * *") // every day at 2:10AM public void runDailyReports() { // get all daily reports List<ScheduledReport> scheduledReports = scheduledReportDAO.getDaily(); sendScheduledReports(scheduledReports); } private void sendScheduledReports(List<ScheduledReport> scheduledReports) { if(scheduledReports.size()<1) { return; } //check if data flow ended its process by checking the report_last_updated table in dwh int reportTimeId = scheduledReportDAO.getReportTimeId(); String todayTimeId = DateUtils.getTimeid(DateUtils.getTodayDate()); int yesterdayTimeId = Integer.parseInt(DateUtils.addDaysSafe(todayTimeId, -1)); int counter = 0; //wait for time id to update from the daily flow while (reportTimeId != yesterdayTimeId && counter < MAX_RETIRES) { errorService.logException("Daily report sender, data not ready. Will try again in one hour.", null, null, null); try { Thread.sleep(HALF_HOUR); } catch (InterruptedException ignore) {} reportTimeId = scheduledReportDAO.getReportTimeId(); counter++; } if (counter == MAX_RETIRES) { MarketplaceServiceException mse = new MarketplaceServiceException(); mse.setMessage("Data flow not done for today, reports are not sent."); throw mse; } // get updated timeid updateTimeId(); for (ScheduledReport scheduledReport : scheduledReports) { dataService.generateScheduledReport(scheduledReport); } } } The Invoked interface: public interface IDataService { @Transactional public void generateScheduledReport(ScheduledReport scheduledReport); } The implementation (up to the line of the exception): @Service public class DataService implements IDataService { public void generateScheduledReport(ScheduledReport scheduledReport) { // if no recipients or no export type - return if(scheduledReport.getRecipients()==null || scheduledReport.getRecipients().size()==0 || scheduledReport.getExportType() == null) { return; } } } Stack trace: ERROR: 2012-09-01 03:30:00,365 [Scheduler-15] LazyInitializationException.<init>(42) • Does MSDeploy support website and database upgrades?

    - by Samuel Jack
I've just been reading about MSDeploy, the new website deployment tool from Microsoft. I'm developing an installer for a webapplication and a webservice to be used for our off-the-shelf product. I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find obvious answers to. Does MSDeploy have robust support for upgrading websites after the initial deployment? I can see MSDeploy has good support for the initial deployment of databases. But does it have support for upgrading schemas whilst preserving the current data? Links addressing these specific questions would be good.

  • Adobe Flex, loading a remote swf

    - by JonoB
I have a flex app running on my server. I have had a request from some clients to have the swf loaded on their server, so that their customers dont have to be transferred to my server to login; i.e. from the user's point of view it looks like they are logging in from theirsite.com instead of mysite.com I tried something really simple, and that was to give them a html wrapper to host on their site. The only modification that I made was to change the "src" var to: "src", "https://www.mysite.com/app/myapp.swf" and embed src="https://www.mysite.com/app/myapp.swf" To my surprise, this worked perfectly. And best of all, the service calls still seem to come from mysite.com, so I dont have to bother with modifying the crossdomain.xml file. All good it seems. Are there any issues or downsides to the above that I should be aware of?

  • Scrapy Could not find spider Error

    - by Nacari
I have been trying to get a simple spider to run with scrapy, but keep getting the error: Could not find spider for domain:stackexchange.com when I run the code with the expression scrapy-ctl.py crawl stackexchange.com. The spider is as follow: from scrapy.spider import BaseSpider from __future__ import absolute_import class StackExchangeSpider(BaseSpider): domain_name = "stackexchange.com" start_urls = [ "http://www.stackexchange.com/", ] def parse(self, response): filename = response.url.split("/")[-2] open(filename, 'wb').write(response.body) SPIDER = StackExchangeSpider()` Another person posted almost the exact same problem months ago but did not say how they fixed it, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1806990/scrapy-spider-is-not-working I have been following the turtorial exactly at http://doc.scrapy.org/intro/tutorial.html, and cannot figure out why it is not working.

  • Explicit disable MySQL query cache in some parts of program

    - by jack
In a Django project, some cronjob programs are mainly used for administrative or analysis purposes, e.g. generating site usage stats, rotating user activities log, etc. We probably do not hope MySQL to cache queries in those programs to save memory usage and improve query cache efficiency. Is it possible to turn off MySQL query cache explicitly in those programs while keep it enabled for other parts including all views.py?
