  • How do i translate this to "simpler" JavaScript?

    - by Julian Weimer
Since i'm working with Titanium i realzed that its current JavaScript Interpreter doesn't accept specific coding-styles. So for for-loops and if-statements i have to have braces, even though i only want to span one line. Furthermore there is more i have to change if i want to use a Javascript Library like underscore.js. This is what Titanium doesn't want to see: if (!(result = result && iterator.call(context, value, index, list))) {_.breakLoop();} if (nativeSome && obj.some === nativeSome) {return obj.some(iterator, context);} var computed = iterator ? iterator.call(context, value, index, list) : value; computed >= result.computed && (result = {value : value, computed : computed}); Can i use a simpler syntax to describe the logic behind those lines of code?

  • C++ missing feature: variables with mutating names

    - by user345671
Hello. Can someone please add a feature to C++? I would like to change variable names depending on the context. Example: Class stuff; if(stuff.hasSuperPowers()) { stuff becomes stuffWithSuperPowers; } That because creating a new variable and using an assignment sucks and lets stuff be acessible in that scope anyway. If you do it, please keep the becomes syntax unless it doesn't look good enough for you as a native English speaker. Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a Java 1.5 varargs API for slf4j yet?

    - by Josh
I want to get rid of this lot... public void info(String msg); public void info(String format, Object arg); public void info(String format, Object arg1, Object arg2); public void info(String format, Object[] argArray); ...and replace it with this one... public void info(String format, Object ... args); ...so that my logging syntax doesn't have to change depending on the number of arguments I want to log. There seems to be lots of discussion and work around it, but where is it? Or should I wrap the wrapper that is slf4j?

  • Refactoring multiple if statements for user authentication with subdomains

    - by go minimal
I'm building a typical web app where once a user signs up they access the app through their own subdomain (company.myapp.com). The "checking what kind of user if any is logged in" piece is starting to get very hairy and it obviously needs to be well-written because its run so often so I was wondering how you guys would re-factor this stuff. Here are the different states: A user must be logged in, the user must not have a company name, and the sub-domain must be blank A user must be logged in, the user must have a company name, that company name must match the current sub-domain A user must be logged in, the user must have a company name, that company name must match the current sub-domain, and the user's is_admin boolean is true if !session[:user_id].nil? @user = User.find(session[:user_id]) if @user.company.nil? && request.subdomains.first.nil? return "state1" elsif [email protected]? if @user.company.downcase == request.subdomains.first.downcase && [email protected]_admin return "state2" elsif @user.company.downcase == request.subdomains.first.downcase && @user.is_admin return "state3" end end end

  • How do you find the last element of an array while iterating using a foreach loop in php ?

    - by Vaibhav Kamble
I am writing a sql query creator using some parameters. While doing that ,I came across this problem. In java , Its very easy to detect the last element of an array from inside the for loop by just checking the current array position with the array length. for(int i=0; i< arr.length;i++){ boolean isLastElem = i== (arr.length -1) ? true : false; } php has some different fashion. They have non integer indexes to access arrays. So you must iterate over an array using foreach loop. But it becomes very problematic when you need to take some decision (in my case to append or/and parameter while building query). I am sure there must be some standard way of doing this. How do you solve this problem normally in php ?

  • Regarding Shell variable

    - by arav
I need to call another shell script testarg.sh within my main script. This script testarg.sh has arguments ARG1 ,ARG2, ARG3. I need to call up the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG2 -ARG3 ARG1 and ARG3 argument Variables are mandatory ones. If its not passed to the main script then i quit. ARG2 is an optional one. If the ARG2 variable is not set with value or it's not defined then i need not pass it from main script. So i need to call up the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG3 If the value exist for the ARG2 Varibale then i need to call the below way ./testarg.sh -ARG1 -ARG2 -ARG3 Do i need to have a if else statement for checking the ARG2 variable is empty or null. Is there any other way to do it.

  • Call a C++ constructor from an Objective C class

    How can I call a C++ constructor from inside an Objective C class? class CppClass { public: CppClass(int arg1, const std::string& arg2): _arg1(arg1), _arg2(arg2) { } // ... private: int _arg1; std::string _arg2; }; @interface ObjC: NSObject { CppClass _cppClass; } @end @implementation ObjC - (id)init { self = [super init]; if ( self ) { // what is the syntax to call CppClass::CppClass(5, "hello") on _cppClass? } return self; } @end

  • jQuery blockUI and AJAX POST

    - by oompahloompah
I am using jQuery BlockUI in a project. For a particular user action, I want to block the UI, and then POST data to the server. When the timeout event occurs OR the server returns, I want to unblock the page. I can't seem to implement this behaviour. This is what I have so far (not working) $(document).ready(function(){ $('#test').click(function(event){ $.blockUI({ message: $('#syntax-chk') }); $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: 'www.example.com', data: somedata, dataType: "json" }); setTimeout(function() { $.unblockUI({ onUnblock: function(){ alert('onUnblock'); } }); }, 2000); }); can anyone spot what I may be doing wrong?

  • PHP 2-way encryption: I need to store passwords that can be retrieved

    - by gAMBOOKa
I am creating an application that will store passwords, which the user can retrieve and see. The passwords are for a hardware device, so checking against hashes are out of the question. What I need to know is: How do I encrypt and decrypt a password in PHP? What is the safest algorithm to encrypt the passwords with? Where do I store the private key? Instead of storing the private key, is it a good idea to require users to enter the private key any time they need a password decrypted? (Users of this application can be trusted) In what ways can the password be stolen and decrypted? What do I need to be aware of?

  • Multiple arrangements/asserts per unit test?

    - by lance
A group of us (.NET developers) are talking unit testing. Not any one framework (we've hit on MSpec, NUint, MSTest, RhinoMocks, TypeMock, etc) -- we're just talking generally. We see lots of syntax that forces a distinct unit test per scenario, but we don't see an avenue to re-using one unit test with various inputs or scenarios. Also, we don't see an avenue to multiple asserts in a given test without an early assert's failure threatening the testing of later asserts (in the same test). Is there anything like that happening in .NET unit testing (state- or behavior-based) today?

  • Retrieving xml value into a string

    - by DelvinK
Hello, In the following XML structure how do i retrieve the name value and put this into a string? (i am using a XPathNavigator in my method) <testsystem> <test> <name>one</name> </test> </testsystem> I was able to get a attribute with a syntax alike this: (but when changing the xml struture it no longer holds a attribute value) string name = nav.GetAttribute("name", "") But have no luck getting the value with a nav as of yet. The purpose is to be able to use it for the following object so i can put name into it. test t = new test() { Name = name, Questions= new List<Questions>() }; Best regards.

  • Injecting a dependancy into a base class

    - by Jamie Dixon
Hey everyone, I'm on a roll today with questions. I'm starting out with Dependency Injection and am having some trouble injecting a dependency into a base class. I have a BaseController controller which my other controllers inherit from. Inside of this base controller I do a number of checks such as determining if the user has the right privileges to view the current page, checking for the existence of some session variables etc. I have a dependency inside of this base controller that I'd like to inject using Ninject however when I set this up as I would for my other dependencies I'm told by the compiler that: Error 1 'MyProject.Controllers.BaseController' does not contain a constructor that takes 0 argument This makes sense but I'm just not sure how to inject this dependency. Should I be using this pattern of using a base controller at all or should I be doing this in a more efficient/correct way?

  • How to add an additional field to a queryset?

    - by Mark
I've got a list of affiliates (users who have referred someone to the site): affiliates = User.objects.annotate(referral_count=Count('referrals')).filter(referral_count__gt=0) And a count of the number of users each affiliate has referred within a time frame: new_users = User.objects.filter(date_joined__gt=sd, date_joined__lte=ed) new_referrals = User.objects.filter(referrals__user__in=new_users).annotate(referral_count=Count('referrals')) How can I do something like new_referrals['affiliate.username'].referral_count from within my template? Note that this is not just a syntax issue, I also need to index new_referrals somehow so that I'm able to do this. Either this, or if I can somehow add a new_referral_count to the first query, that'd work too.

  • Suggested C++ books?

    - by Josh Bradley
Ok, I've had one semester of C++ and will be taking a second semester in it after I have taken a Data Structure class this fall. In the first class, we dealt mainly with C++ syntax and the textbook we used was ok, but now I'm wanting to go ahead and purchase a great C++ book that encompasses a lot of the programming concepts used today. I'm learning Objective-C on my own and was able to get through the whole object-oriented stuff pretty easily, along with other things like pointers, inheritance, delegation, etc. It doesn't have to exactly have EVERYTHING in it, but I do want to buy the book with the most information in it. Money is no problem. So my question is what book did you use or still use for C++? Is it a book that you can reference back to if you ever forget how to do something small, or would you have to go online and find the answer.

  • jQuery way to handle select lists, radio buttons and checkboxes

    - by Álvaro G. Vicario
When I handle HTML form elements with jQuery, I always end up with an ugly mix of jQuery syntax and plain JavaScript like, e.g.: function doStuff($combo){ if( $combo.get(0).options[$combo.get(0).selectedIndex].value=="" ){ var txt = ""; }else{ var txt = $combo.get(0).options[$combo.get(0).selectedIndex].text; } var $description = $combo.closest("div.item").find("input[name$=\[description\]]"); $description.val(txt); } Are there standard jQuery methods to handle typical operations on elements like <select>, <input type="radio"> and <input type="checkbox">? With typical, I mean stuff like reading the value of the selected radio button in a group or replacing elements in a selection list. I haven't found them in the documentation but I admit that method overloading can make doc browser kind of tricky.

  • VIsual Studio 2010 Web Performance Test / Load tests / Coded UI Tests. ANYONE REALLY USE THESE?

    - by punkouter
I can find some articles on how to use them but I can't seem to find anywhere peoples impression of them using them in real projects. I have been trying to figure out how to use them and Ive had alot of problems.. Can someone out there who uses these tools on the job give me thier impression? Are there better alternate tools available? Using these really just a waste of time ? With Coded UI Tests I see how they are good for basic javascript checking but its so basic of a example I don't think it is worth it. With web tests I like how they work but when I activate code coverage/ASP.NET profiling it doesnt work half the time.

  • Setting id to a panel control in gridview

    - by mariki
I have a panel control in gridview's template. I need to hide/unhide panel in javascript function, for that i need to pass panel's id to the javascript. The problem is that all panels have the same id in gridview, so I need to set unique id to each panel. I tried to do: <asp:Panel id= "Panel_<%# Eval("ID")%>" and some other variations but always get an error. The panel contains some other controls, I need it to be server side because I need to set at code-behind (after checking if user is authenticated) What can I do? p.s. It doesn't have to be Panel, any other control that I can find with Findcontrol and can hold other controls.

  • TypeError: Cannot find function 1.0.

    - by Newtopian
Hi, I have a script and I'm almost done but I get this error and frankly I have no idea what is wrong here. I'm rather new to Javascript so I suspect I did something wrong in the syntax somewhere. Here is an extract from the script containing the offending line : var gc = 0; var seg; var segCount = 0; var groupCount = 0; var groupLevel = 0; var segments = new Array(); var sk = ""; for(gc = 0; gc = groupDelimiters.length) break; if(seg.name() == groupDelimiters[gc]) { //ok we start another group grKeys.startNewGroup(groupLevel, groupCriterionExtractors[groupLevel](segCount), groupCount); groupLevel = gc + 1; //This line is flagged with the error in the title groupCount++; } } ideas, pointers, any help would be appreciated.

  • Dynamic, reflective SignalHandler in Java

    - by pilcrow
How do I install signal handling logic iff sun.misc.Signal is available? Background First generation of my code looked something like this: class MyApp { public static void main(String[] args) { ... Signal.handle(term_sig, new SignalHandler() { public void handle(Signal sig) { ... } }); ... } } I believe I understand how to reflectively test for and use signal handlers -- Class.forName("sun.misc.Signal"), reflectively call Signal.handle, and so forth. My impulse was simply to instantiate another anonymous inner class with the dynamically obtained SignalHandler class, but I think that's just wishful syntax.

  • Merging contents of two lists based on a if-loop

    - by chavanak
I have a minor problem while checking for elements in a list: I have two files with contents something like this file 1: file2: 47 358 47 48 450 49 49 56 50 I parsed both files into two lists and used the following code to check for i in file_1: for j in file_2: j = j.split() if i == j[1]: x=' '.join(j) I am now trying to get a "0" if the value of file_1 is not there in file_2 for example, value "48" is not there is file_2 so I need to get the output like (with only one space in between the two numbers): output_file: 358 47 0 48 450 49 56 50 I tried using the dictionary approach but I didn't quite get what I wanted (actually I don't know how to use dictionary in python correctly ;)). Any help will be great.

  • Build Event Macros for Other Projects in the Solution

    - by Adam Driscoll
Is it possible to reference other projects' properties via a macro within a build event? For example: "Tool1" outputs to directory ..\..\bin\Release "Component1" uses "Tool1" in its post-buildevent To get to "Tool1", "Component1"'s project must do something like $(SolutionDir)bin\Release This requires that Tool1 always output to ..\..\bin\Release. If this is changed this breaks the other project. I know there is no indication to this within the macro list but is there a way to reference another project? Maybe like $(OtherProject.TargetDir)... I know WIX has a similar syntax [$(var.OtherProject.TargetDir)] but I think that may be a different mechanism.

  • What's the silliest programming mistake you've ever done? [closed]

    - by bgo
Despite not being a professional programmer, i use python or c to accomplish simple tasks. Once I needed a nasty equation to use with various data for physics lab. I thought that it would take a few hours if i used some mechanic calculator. Then i've written a python script to make things easier but something was wrong. After finding my mistakes one of which was forgetting to put ":", i realized that it had already took 2-3 hours, not to mention inventing satanic arithmetic techniques since i thought the errors was caused by my math :) Sometimes when you don't see it, you don't see it! Now i can find the syntax errors without thinking for a moment :) Any similar annoying mistakes that you've experienced?

  • C++ setTimout function ?

    - by Quandary
What's the cheapest way for a JavaScript like setTimeout-function in C++? I would need this: 5000 miliseconds from now, start function xy (no parameters, no return value). The reason for this is I need to initialize COM for text to speech, but when I do it on dll attach, it crashes. It works fine however if I do not call CoInitialize from dllmain. I just need to call CoInitialize and CoCreateInstance, and then use the instance in other functions. I can catch the uninitialized instance by checking for NULL, but I need to initialize COM - without crashing.

Possible Duplicate: What is the single most influential book every programmer should read? Hello With sites like The Daily WTF and recurring threads on Slashdot and elsewhere about bad programming, I figured that, to avoid people reinventing the wheel (badly or not), there should be a good, fat book on programming that would go through typical programming problems and show good, known algorithms, either in pseudo-code or some language with an easy syntax so that the language is not an issue. Here's the list of books on the subject I saw at my local computer bookstore. Can you recommend a couple, or add to this list if it's missing better options?
