• SQL Server 2008 Express w/Adv Services Command Line Install

  I'm attempting to include an install of SQL Server 2008 Express w/Adv. Services with an installation package, but am having a heck of a time getting the installation to complete. Typically, this installation will take place on brand-new servers that get shipped to new customers, but this won't always be the case: Sometimes, the installation will take place on machines already in use, and so I've been told the installer has to work for XP x86 and x64 and Win 7 x32 and x64. The command line I'm passing in is: setup.exe /ACTION=INSTALL /INSTANCENAME="MSSQLSERVER" /HIDECONSOLE /QS /FEATURES="SQLENGINE" "REPLICATION" "FULLTEXT" "RS" "BIDS" "SSMS" "SNAC_SDK" "OCS" /SECURITYMODE=SQL /SAPWD="aStrongPassword" /NPENABLED=1 /TCPENABLED=1 /SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS="%USERDOMAIN%\Administrator" SQLSVCACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITY\Network Service" (This is only my most recent attempt, in which I used a SQLSYSADMINACCOUNTS value that I saw in a posting elsewhere on this site. I've tried lots of combinations from various sites.) The SQL installer's Summary.txt begins: Exit code (Decimal): -2068578304 Exit facility code: 1204 Exit error code: 0 Exit message: The specified credentials that were provided for the SQL Server service are not valid. To continue, provide a valid account and password for the SQL Server service. This seems simple enough to fix (and maybe I"m overlooking something obvious), which is why it's driving me nuts. • Make Python Socket Server More Efficient

  I have very little experience working with sockets and multithreaded programming so to learn more I decided to see if I could hack together a little python socket server to power a chat room. I ended up getting it working pretty well but then I noticed my server's CPU usage spiked up over 100% when I had it running in the background. • ASP.Net 2.0 VB WebSite Project "Type 'Exception' is not defined"

  All of a sudden our VB ASP.Net 2.0 WebSite Project started complaining that Exception was not defined. I have discovered that if I add "Imports System" to the header, or explicitly use System.Exception that it works, but this error permeates a lot of other System descendants like the Data namespace, and the DateTime object. We have hundreds and hundreds of pages, so adding Imports System to all of them not only would be time consuming, but it seems like a band-aid fix to the problem. I have checked the Project-Property Pages-References, and the web.config file, and the assembly is imported into the project, it is just not being "Auto Imported" into the Class Files like it USUALLY is. Note this does not JUST affect CodeBehind, but All className.vb files. I would like to fix this problem, but more importantly would like to understand what could cause the System namespace to all of a sudden stop being auto imported. There is obviously some file change that caused this, as my co-worker started seeing the problem this morning after he did a Full-Get on the project. MORE: The Web.Config file located in the Windows\Microsoft.Net...\Config\Web.Config file does have the , and System is added. Adding the tags, and adding System to the LOCAL web.config did nothing to mitigate the problem. Any help would be appreciated. First SO Question, so I hope I was descriptive enough.

  I removed all the 'add' elements in the compilation/assemblies element. • Convert.ToDateTime causes FormatException on afternoon date/time values

  We have an application parsing date/time values in the following format: 2009-10-10 09:19:12.124 2009-10-10 12:13:14.852 2009-10-10 13:00:00 2009-10-10 15:23:32.022 One particular server all of the sudden (today) started failing to parse any times 13:00:00 or later. This particular client has five servers and only one has the problem. We have dozens of other clients with a total of hundreds of servers without the problem. System.FormatException: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime. at System.DateTimeParse.Parse(String s, DateTimeFormatInfo dtfi, DateTimeStyles styles) at System.DateTime.Parse(String s, IFormatProvider provider) at System.Convert.ToDateTime(String value, IFormatProvider provider) at System.String.System.IConvertible.ToDateTime(IFormatProvider provider) at System.Convert.ToDateTime(Object value) I ran a test using DateTime.Parse(s, CultureInfo.CurrentCulture) comapred to DateTime.Parse(s, CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) and the problem only shows up with CurrentCulture. However, CurrentCulture is "en-US" just like all the other servers and there's nothing different that I can find in regional or language settings. Has anyone seen this before? Suggestions related to what I can look into? EDIT: Thank you for the answers so far. However, I'm looking for suggestions on what configuration to look into that could have caused this to suddenly change behavior and stop working when it's worked for years and works on hundreds of other servers. I've already changed it for the next version, but I'm looking for a configuration change to fix this in the interim for the current installation.

• ERROR: iPhone Private Frameworks "No such file or directory"

  I have added Private Frameworks To my project. When I build in DEVICE | RELEASE everything works fine and I am able to ldid -S the application and it successfully launches on my device. However, when trying to BUILD AND GO in Simulator, I get the error "No such file or directory" as indicated below: (I also get the error twice which is strange too.) • How do I use a dependency on a Perl module installed in a non-standard location?

  I need to install two Perl modules on a web host. Let's call them A::B and X::Y. X::Y depends on A::B (needs A::B to run). Both of them use Module::Install. I have successfully installed A::B into a non-system location using perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/non/system/location make; make test; make install Now I want to install X::Y, so I try the same thing perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/non/system/location The output is $ perl Makefile.PL PREFIX=/non/system/location/ Cannot determine perl version info from lib/X/Y.pm *** Module::AutoInstall version 1.03 *** Checking for Perl dependencies... [Core Features] - Test::More ...loaded. (0.94) - ExtUtils::MakeMaker ...loaded. (6.54 >= 6.11) - File::ShareDir ...loaded. (1.00) - A::B ...missing. ==> Auto-install the 1 mandatory module(s) from CPAN? [y] It can't seem to find A::B in the system, although it is installed, and when it tries to auto-install the module from CPAN, it tries to write it into the system directory (ignoring PREFIX). I have tried using variables like PERL_LIB and LIB on the command line, after PREFIX=..., but nothing I have done seems to work. I can do make and make install successfully, but I can't do make test because of this problem. Any suggestions? I found some advice at http://servers.digitaldaze.com/extensions/perl/modules.html to use an environment variable PERL5LIB, but this also doesn't seem to work: export PERL5LIB=/non/system/location/lib/perl5/ didn't solve the problem.

• Duplicate method 'ProcessRequest' in ASPX

  I'm trying to code ASP.NET MVC views (WebForms view engine) in F#. I can already write regular ASP.NET WebForms ASPX and it works ok, e.g. <%@ Page Language="F#" %> <% for i in 1..2 do %> <%=sprintf "%d" i %> so I assume I have everything in my web.config correctly set up. However, when I make the page inherit from ViewPage: <%@ Page Language="F#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" %> I get this error: Compiler Error Message: FS0442: Duplicate method. The abstract method 'ProcessRequest' has the same name and signature as an abstract method in an inherited type. The problem seems to be this piece of code generated by the F# CodeDom provider: [<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute>] abstract ProcessRequest : System.Web.HttpContext -> unit [<System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute>] default this.ProcessRequest (context:System.Web.HttpContext) = let mutable context = context base.ProcessRequest(context) |> ignore when I change the Page directive to use C# instead, the generated code is: [System.Diagnostics.DebuggerNonUserCodeAttribute()] public new virtual void ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpContext context) { base.ProcessRequest(context); } which of course works fine and AFAIK is not semantically the same as the generated F# code.   I installed Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 in an XP Mode VM on Windows 7. Then I created a trivial Silverlight 4 (beta) project and tried to build it.   I'm getting such an headache trying to elaborate an appropriate algorithm to go from a START position to a EXIT position in a maze. Also, if the agent arrives with a remaining energy of zero or less, he dies, so we print something like "Impossible". So, in the input 10 is the initial agent's energy, 3 4 is the START position (i.e. column 3, line 4) and we have a maze 7x6. Think this as a kind of labyrinth, in which I want to find the exit that gives the agent a better remaining energy (shortest path). In case there are paths which lead to the same remaining energy, we choose the one which has the small number of steps, of course. I need to know if a DFS to a maze 500x500 in the worst case is feasible with these limitations and how to do it, storing the remaining energy in each step and the number of steps taken so far. The output means the agent arrived with remaining energy= 5 to the exit pos 1 4 in 2 steps. If we look carefully, in this maze it's also possible to exit at pos 3 1 (column 3, row 1) with the same energy but with 3 steps, so we choose the better one. With these in mind, can someone help me some code or pseudo-code? I have troubles working this around with a 2D array and how to store the remaining energy, the path (or number of steps taken)....

  I've implemented some extension methods and put those in separate Class Library project. Imagine I have a simple extension method like this in class library called MD.Utility: namespace MD.Utility { public static class ExtenMethods { public static bool IsValidEmailAddress(this string s) { Regex regex = new Regex(@"^[\w-\.]+@([\w-]+\.)+[\w-]{2,4}$"); return regex.IsMatch(s); } } } But nowhere in WebApp like App_code folder or WebFroms code-behind page I can't use this Extension method. While if I put my extension method in App_Code folder it's ok for using in another cs file in App_code Folder or Web Form code-behind pages.

• Qt Jambi: Accessing the content of QNetworkReply

  Hi All, I'm having trouble accessing the content of QNetworkReply objects. Content appears to be empty or zero. According to the docs (translating from c++ to java) I think I've got this set up correctly, but to no avail. Additionally an "Unknown error" is being reported. Any ideas much appreciated. • CPU friendly infinite loop

  Writing an infinite loop is simple: while(true){ //add whatever break condition here } But this will trash the CPU performance. This execution thread will take as much as possible from CPU's power. What is the best way to lower the impact on CPU? Adding some Thread.Sleep(n) should do the trick, but setting a high timeout value for Sleep() method may indicate an unresponsive application to the operating system. Let's say I need to perform a task each minute or so in a console app. I need to keep Main() running in an "infinite loop" while a timer will fire the event that will do the job. I would like to keep Main() with the lowest impact on CPU. What methods do you suggest. Sleep() can be ok, but as I already mentioned, this might indicate an unresponsive thread to the operating system. LATER EDIT: I want to explain better what I am looking for: I need a console app not Windows service. Console apps can simulate the Windows services on Windows Mobile 6.x systems with Compact Framework. I need a way to keep the app alive as long as the Windows Mobile device is running. We all know that the console app runs as long as its static Main() function runs, so I need a way to prevent Main() function exit. In special situations (like: updating the app), I need to request the app to stop, so I need to infinitely loop and test for some exit condition. For example, this is why Console.ReadLine() is no use for me. There is no exit condition check. Regarding the above, I still want Main() function as resource friendly as possible. Let asside the fingerprint of the function that checks for the exit condition.

• Why won't my program terminate?

  I have a .NET Compact Framework app that can runs on three windows machines (Desktop windows and two WinCE machines) and on the WinCE devices, the process never terminates on exit, even if I call Application.Exit(). Besides .NET, it uses one COM component (which does everything on the UI thread). If I break into the debugger after exitting, Visual Studio shows only one thread and a completely blank call stack. What could possibly cause this? Update: My process is terminating on the desktop but not the WinCE machines. I tried to force the process to terminate with the following code, but it doesn't work: [DllImport("coredll.dll")] static extern int TerminateProcess(IntPtr hProcess, uint uExitCode); static public void ExitProcess() { if (Platform.IsWindowsCE) TerminateProcess(new IntPtr(-1), 0); Application.Exit(); } There are also supposed to be ExitProcess() and GetCurrentProcess() APIs like the following, but if I try to call them, I get EntryPointNotFoundException. • C#: Why am I still getting an RCW error when exiting my application?

  To be specific, the error is: An attempt has been made to free an RCW that is in use. The RCW is in use on the active thread or another thread. Attempting to free an in-use RCW can cause corruption or data loss. The application in question is a small applet that displays the current clock speed of the CPU as a system tray icon. I'm using a System.Timers.Timer object to refresh the systray icon at an interval of 2.5 seconds. There's a single context menu item to exit the application, which uses the following function to unload everything: public void ExitApp(object sender, EventArgs e) { //stop and disable the timer theInterval.Stop(); theInterval.Enabled = false; //unload the system tray icon TheIcon.Visible = false; //exit the application Application.Exit(); } If I take out everything but Application.Exit(); I get an RCW error and the systray icon doesn't go away until I mouse over it. Everything was working perfectly until I changed the window style of the hidden form used to initialize the systray icon and the timer. If it helps any, I'm using C# 2010 Express.

  I'm using .NET 2.0 and Visual Studio 2005 to try to create a web service that can be consumed both as SOAP/XML and JSON. I read Dave Ward's Answer to the question How to return JSON from a 2.0 asmx web service (in addition to reading other articles at Encosia.com), but I can't figure out how I need to set up the code of my asmx file in order to work with JSON using jQuery. Two Questions: How do I enable JSON in my .NET 2.0 ASMX file? What's a simple jQuery call that could consume the service using JSON? Also, I notice that since I'm using .NET 2.0, I i'm not able to implement using System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService. Next step could be something like bash. Since the above one raises an exception, I tried to make it not raise exceptions, like this: rem=""" echo "Hello, world!" exit """ exit="" exit print "Hello, world!" The only issue is, of course, it won't print the hello world. And I really want it to print that hello world for me. Anyone can help with this? Also, any other language would do it, just don't break the previous ones (i.e. the answer still has to be valid Python code and print out the nice hello world greeting when run with Python.) Any ideas are welcome. I'm making this a community wiki so feel free to add ideas to the list.

• Listing directories in Linux from C

  I am trying to simulate linux command ls using linux api from c. Looking at the code it does make sense, but when I run it I get "stat error: No such file or directory". I have checked that opendir is working ok. I think the problem is in stat, which is returning -1 even though I think it should return 0. What am I missing?
