  • Is it possible to use a PC as a external drive via USB?

    I have a bluray player that has a USB interface that allows me to plug external hard drives and pendrives for me to play movies or music files. I was wondering if it's possible to have the PC or notebook or any other computer-like device using a USB-USB cable and make the bluray player detects this as an external drive. Note: I'm using a bluray player as example but it can be the same for DVD players, TV or sound sytems.

    a outlook form "c:\meinevorlage.oft" , created with office 2003 can not be opened directly in office 2007. Error: not familiar with the outlook form template .... how can I still open this template directly on computer with office 2007-installations? important: the outlook-form have to be opened by direct selecting and not via outlook-file-new, or as an hyperlink etc. heartfelt thanks in advance.

The more devices you add to your home office, the more disastrous the situation under the table becomes: cords falling behind the desk, ugly cables running along the sides and under of the desk, making it almost impossible to clean and remove the dust.     Hi, I got a print server on our old printer. I have a problem, because Vista has its own queue. I want to bypass this queue and send everything straight away to printer so the print server deals with queue and not vista. Problem is, when second document is being printed from the same computer after first one. Vista is still waiting for info on finishing the first job even 5 minutes after it was REALLY finished.

  • Vista is showing contents of flash drive that was previously connected

    Today, after I clicked "folder X" in my external hard drive, instead of seeing the contents of "folder X", I see the contents of my flash drive (the last time it was connected)...which is not connected to my computer. My flash drive's files show for a couple of seconds before I am brought to "folder X" which was the folder I wanted to go to as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Any idea why this happened? I'm using Vista 32-bit business edition.

  • Proper upgrade path for Windows 7 to Windows 8 when the directory setup is non-standard

    I have both a HDD and a SSD in my computer and after installing Windows I moved things around a little to ensure that the OS is on the SSD but my user profile resides on the SSD (with a few exceptions). I used junction points heavily for that. Windows and most applications are fine with that and it works well. Now I wonder whether I can in-place upgrade this to Windows 8 while retaining that exact setup or whether there is anything I can do to ease the upgrade process.

    This computer came to my shop for just a simple Windows tuneup, so after doing all my tweaks, I noticed I was getting an error when trying to synchronize with the time server. It wasn't until I was about to give up that I noticed in the calendar that it's one weekday late. Here's a screenshot. As you can see, the day today, Friday - January 7th is a Thursday in the calendar. How is this possible?

    I'm trying to use an old parallel-port based printer with a USB-to-parallel port adapter on Windows 7. When I plug it into the USB port on the computer it's listed as an unrecognized device. I know that these cables typically use the "USB Printing Support" driver with makes USB ports show up as printer ports in the printer dialog. Is there a way to manually add USB Printing Support to Windows 7, since it isn't being added automatically?

    The reason I want to do this is most of the time I have the computer plugged into a 52" LCD in another room displaying information. Occasionally I need to update the software and to do so I need to see what I am doing so I plug a monitor in locally. Problem is that it automatically adopts the device capabilities of the new monitor and thus changing the settings for the large screen. I then have to go to a networked administration panel for the software to update the resolution settings.

    I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) on a Windows Vista SP2 box. Every day in the 4 PM hour MSE updates itself: The green fortress icon in the notification area displays an animated download arrow, and my computer becomes unusably sluggish for five minutes (or more). I'm generally forced to take a coffee break or read a magazine. How can I control the time of day when this update occurs? Sometime after 9 PM would be ideal. Thanks.

    My sister still has Win XP. She tried to print a document on her USB printer and now it's stuck in the printing queue. I tried the following: Restart the computer Restart the printer Delete the entry from the printing queue From the printing queue choose Printer\Cancel All Documents Right click the print job and choose Pause The status of the printing job now reads "Deleting - Paused - Printing". Nothing I do seems to get rid of this stuck printing job. What should I do?

    I come across the same problem over and over. I working on computer that is remote and it is missing graphics card drivers. Just has some default drivers that have limited resolution. I would like to install program that will read the chipset on graphics card and tell me the values so I can go on manufacturer website and download the appropriate drivers.
